Vice President Pool Report

Sent from Maryland
Print Pool Reporter Emily Cadei
Congressional Quarterly

VP Joe Biden made an appearance at a fundraiser at a private home in Bethesda for Democratic Rep. Frank Kratovil of Maryland, who is in a tough race against Republican Andy Harris (recent polls have Kratovil trailing)

No major news. Biden spoke for approx. 10 mins, exhorting  the guests in attendance to rally their friends and contacts in support of Kratovil because "this is a really big race." He acknowledged that it is a tough district for Democrats to win but said the party "can't afford to lose a great congressman" to someone who is "genuinely out of the mainstream."

Malveaux Meets....

I recently had the unique opportunity to talk to female leaders-–from inside the White House, in board rooms, on the catwalk--powerful women--who are weighing in on issues from how the Obama administration is doing its job, to how to break through the glass ceiling. Its part of our series on women who rule the world.

President meets with Americans involved in the Chilean mine rescue effort

The President will met with some of the Americans involved in the Chilean mine rescue effort in the Oval Office today.  They included:

Schramm, Inc. is a Chester County, Pennsylvania manufacturer and global supplier to the hydraulic drill industry, focusing on land based applications. Schramm manufactured two of the drilling units used to locate and then rescue the miners and sent two staff members to the site. Schramm’s the T685WS and T130XD drilling units played a critical role in the “Plan B” scenario – the T685WS drilled the first 5 inch hole that located the miners; the T130XD drilling unit bored the 28-inch rescue hole.

Mr. President v. Mr. Dude

When White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was asked today if the President or anyone in his inner circle regrets his doing The Daily Show and whether any offense was taken by being called "dude," he responded:

"Let me tell you if the President took offense at somebody calling him dude, given the names that are hurled around this town, I'd hazard a guess that he'd rarely leave the top floor of the residence everyday for fear of being called `hey guy.'   Again, it's a comedy show. "
