Gibbs defends reporters in India

By: CNN Political Unit
(CNN) – White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs is sometimes known for his sarcastic responses and tough exterior during press briefings.

But according to a White House pool report from President Obama's trip to India, it was the security for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, not the press, who were in a standoff with Gibbs. The altercation escalated, and when security refused to let the reporters through, Gibbs threatened to pull the president from his meeting.

For the complete story, go to CNN's Political Ticker.

Oh no, pulling the president from another public appearance that would leave us only 392 times we can hear him spew his lies. Americans are tired of him other countries can't stand him, even his enemies thinks he's a joke. Please Gibbs pull him form his speeches more often that whymy ears will stop bleeding

"Gibbs threatened to pull the president from his meeting." Wow...the power he thinks he has. Would have been great to see if it had really happened.

The Gibbs stunt was another “arrogant American” bully incidence.

What I have not seen reported is the faux pas by the American bureaucrats when they demanded the Chief Minister of Maharashtra (Mumbai) and Police Chief who were to meet with Obama in Mumbai to welcome him and for the meetings send their passport in advance to the American security team. Result, most of them boycotted the meeting. This has been reported in the Indian news channel continously. While I defend the US for most things, what I cannot stand is the half news that is one sided (propaganda).

After all CNN is for complete information or are you bought off by the White house and the politicians or are you so cared by Gibbs not to report the other incident or use logicial thinking that there may be security concerns after all rather than "defending the US media"? Would you have written this article if the media of another country were stopped from enteriung teh white house?

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs probably forgot to bribe the Indian official according to the Indian custom – just $1 would have been enough to avoid the confusion.

You may be right Chako , what would be interesting to know is how much the Maryland couple bribed the Secret Service to gate crash the White House dinner, honouring Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

...and Chacko , where was Gibbs when the Indian Police let the U.S. President cool his heels in in his limo in Mumbai , for 20 minutes ,till the U.S.security detail removed a sharp shooter who was placed in an area designated to be protected by Indian security.

To those sniffed up, bulled headed bloggers who are anti-indians or should I say racist, get the reality, you have to understand Indian English to survive, just like we have US english and UK english. Get out of the view of considering your rivals as 3rd world, because they will suck you down below the nth world. But good work Gibbs.

This is wrong. They should have complained it to the proper authorities but being a guest and threatening the host is wrong.

why does the press secretary have the authority to "pull the president" out of any meeting? and if he doesn't, whey does he go around threatening any one that he will. to threaten to pull the president from a meeting about important issues such as the economy and terrorism because 3 reporters couldn't get in is petty, irresponsible and arrogant.

Apparently, he won't pull, as this trip was more about business in favor of U.S.
