Obama, 'Da Bears' Super Bowl bound?

Washington (CNN) – It was not quite a Joe Namath-style guarantee of victory, but President Obama came close on Wednesday when he declared that he's heading to the Super Bowl if his beloved Chicago Bears make it to the game.

At the end of a quick media spray of his Oval Office meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao, Obama was asked by a journalist if he's planning to head to the big game on Feb. 6 in Dallas.

"If the Bears win, I'm going no doubt," Obama said matter-of-factly.

If nothing else, Obama perhaps put a little bit more pressure on "Da Bears" this weekend because they first have to beat their rival, Green Bay Packers, in the National Football Conference championship game.

But there's also no doubt Ditka would be proud of the president, fitting in a little football tack in between diplomacy with the Chinese.

Can he not come up with something Original. Maybe this is why he had to ask Bill Clinton to come in and help. He is incapable of being a President of a nation. Obama your health care bill stinkls to high heaven. I notice than none of the Congress or you are on it. Or will be on it. GREAT AHs.

Are you joking? The entire Congress and administration are on the Federal health care system. That includes the right-wingers who demagogue against it but refuse to give it up. The president wants everyone to have affordable health care, why are you against that? A single payer system would be the best option, or a public option after that, but it's better than the horrendous system we currently have, which is bad even for many people who have health insurance today. Go Bears, go Jets!

As a life-long Bears fan, the last thing I want to see is the girlish Barack Obama jumping on the bandwagon now. I've seen how he throws a baseball, I'm betting he hasn't the faintest idea how to even hold a football.

And that is how you define a man, can handle a football? I feel sorry for the people in your life, especially any sons you may have.

You realize Obama has been a Bears fan for a long time, right? I mean, he did an intro for MNF back in 2006 against the Rams and said the Bears were going to the Superbowl that season too.

Actually, hate to burst the bubble, but Obama is really a Steelers fan. He's a Bears fan only because he was an IL senator.

I, too, am a life long Chicago Bears fan. I think it is great that he is supporting the Bears. Many people do not know the correct way to throw a football but spend lots of money and time supporting the Chicago Bears.

    rickster,
If it is a requirement that every fan should know every detail of how to play a game, there would've been no fans. And assuming that he doesn't know how to hold a football shows how smart you are...lol..

So what does that cost the taxpayer. One more reason to back the Packers. Superbowl tickets are expensive enough without Air Force One and all the staff. Unless of course he's taking the rest of us.

I've never played football. I've never even attempted to throw a football. So by your definition, I should not be a fan? Screw that. Love the game and love the Bears! And just an FYI, the President plays a damn good game on the basketball court.

Keep your ass in Washington, Obama-we do not want you in DFW or anywhere else in the Lone Star State.

@Em; With folks like you down in the LONE STAR STATE, I certainly hope OBAMA thinks about that move 'real good' before he makes it, because you all do have a history of getting rid of presidents! NOVEMBER 22, 1963 was one of the saddest days thisnation has ever seen. The late great JOHN F KENNEDY never got out of there alive.

@USPatriots38; NO! He asked Bill Clinton to come in and help him because he's another DEMOCRAT; a WHITE MAN! somebody he thought just maybe you fools could believe when he told you the health care plan was good for the US! He may have realized that you wouldn't believe it until a 'whiteman' said it. You usually don't! That's just how biased, and stupid some 'patriots' of this nation are! Furthermore patriot, read the bill before you condem it; don't just ride with the FOX NEWS on it! I bet they've got ins!

  18. Liz Carter in Georgia

@USPatriots38; OH YES! He's come up with an original! When he CAME UP with the audacity to run, with the possibility of even having to sit on the 'hot-seat-toilet', left by George W Bush & Co, won and stepped into office; that in itself was an 'original'! Finally, this nation 'under GOD',that claims to be the land of opportunity and freedom for all stepped up to the plate after 43 white presidents; never even a NATIVE AMERICAN one, and 'ELECTED', not SELECTED, it's first black president! THAT'S AN ORIGINAL!

  19. Liz Carter in Georgia

OBAMA'S been put through HELL ever since he's been in there, but we expected that. We knew that the whole state of the nation, which took years of bad decisions, misconduct, and corruption, was inevitably going to be twisted, spinned and ginned systemically, to blame on the black man! That's why to some of us thoughtful, intelligent political watchdogs, even though his win brought us pride, their was also a bitter-sweet emotional ride. WE DRESSED AND BRACED FOR THE UPHILL BATTLE FOR HIM! GOD BLESS OBAMA!

Does Obama even have one thought how it would look for the President to be going to the Super Bowl while millions of Americans can't even afford to buy a football? For such a sheer act of hubris, I say GO PACK GO!

    January 20, 2011 at 10:22 am |
    • Harry Pelosi

      Agreed!

      January 21, 2011 at 12:20 pm |
  21. Liz Carter in Georgia

@Mark L; Why's OBAMA always the president that's expected to give up his personal choices, presidential perks, and whatever else you try to take from him, because the nation is in recovery from what would have been a complete depression; due to no fault of his own? I guess he knows WELL how it looks! It looks just like CLINTON, BUSH and any other president who's been seen sitting in stadiums watching games and pitching the first baseballs, while many AMERICANS had no shelter or couldn't buy a loaf of BREAD!

  22. Proud citizen

really people, lighten up, Obama is a people person, he's one of us, he happens to be running our country at the moment, but he's a breath of fresh air, he's normal, does not only "claim to understand the plight of the common person" but is the common person, that's why he got elected, now everyone rags on him for it...morons.

    January 20, 2011 at 1:24 pm |
  23. Scott Boston

Unbelievable. How selfish. Does he have any idea of the turmoil his security will create if he attends. That is why sitting presidents don't go to these things. He's in his own world and in 2 years he'll be in that world alone. What a joke this man is.

Obama is a Harvard educated lawyer, Nobel Prize winner, self-made millionnaire, President of the United States, and de facto leader of the real world.

Yeah...your ability to throw a football makes you a more accomplished person than Obama...NOT!!!!

The Super Bowl is in Arlington. Not Dallas. If anything, call it the DFW Metroplex or North Texas. Dallas is a suburb in this main event.

@Harry Pelosi, NO! I do love and respect the OBAMAS, but my biggest emotion is HATE for the whitewashed, daily biggoted, racist, and hurtful antics tossed at them!

I LOVE how Obama supporters ALWAYS throw out the race card . . . Most people who are not big fans of Obama, DO NOT LIKE HIS POLICIES . . . I laugh hysterically when you show your TRUE simpleminded COLORS by throwing down race.

PLEASE CHICAGO - LOSE! . . . Save my hometown headaches and save the taxpayers a fortune
for our jet-setting president to act like a "bigwig" . . . President Obama - stay away from Arlington, TX! We have to deal with your policies . . . I don't want to deal with your entourage and your self-involved presence.

Hey! frespch; some of us old soldiers are still 'marching' down south! Things hadn't changed that much! They have only been hidden under the systemic cloak of percieved progress, so to speak. I only pray that the rest of the Georgia Peaches come on back in to the barracks from R and R, so we can soldier on together! We know down here! Thanks!

@Arlington TX Taxpayer; I hope he reads and heeds your warning! We know what happens to 'CHANGE', LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTS IN TEXAS. I wish somebody from down there had sent a message to THE LATE GREAT JOHN F KENNEDY to stay away! Most of us from the SOUTH have always known how racists TEXAS is, and it always has been! COWBOYS and GIRLS, shoot'em up bang-bang!
