WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Obama presented the Air Force Academy football team with the Commander-in-Chief Trophy in the Rose Garden Monday. The last time the Air Force Academy beat Army and Navy in the three-way season series was in 2002.
"Until this year, no one on this team knew what it felt like to beat Army, to beat Navy, to visit the White House, and to earn football bragging rights over the other branches," President Obama said. "Now you know the feeling."
The team presented an official Air Force football to the president with his name on it and the scores of both the Army and Navy game. They also gave him a jersey with the number 23, which was the number he wore when he played basketball in high school.
President Obama gladly reminded everyone it was "My old number - before Michael Jordan, by the way."
The team decided against a jersey with the number one because, according to Cadet Reggie Rembert, "there's only 'one' in our hearts and that's the Air Force One."
