The Queen's star-studded bash for Obama

The Queen has invited a who's who of celebrities and politicians to attend Tuesday's state dinner at Buckingham Palace in honor of President Obama.

The 171-person guest list includes Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Prime Minister David Cameron, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, former Prime Minister Tony Blair, former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Labor Party leader Ed Miliband, Barrister Justine Thornton, Richard Branson, London Mayor Boris Johnson, director Tim Burton, actress Helena Bonham-Carter, actor Kevin Spacey, actress Kristin Chenoweth, actor Tom Hanks, actress Rita Wilson, and historian Dorris Kearns Goodwin.

Sitting at the president's table is Mrs. Obama, the Queen and Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla, Clinton, and Cameron.  Of course, the Queen and Obama are seated at the head of the large U-shaped table.

A show of great diplomatic enhancement and tribute of friendship, security and courtesy between the two nations. Beautiful gesture! Beautiful, inclusive guest list! Thankyou Queen Elizabeth, and Prince Phillip for your forsight and seemingly untarnished, unshakeable views of this president and what he has had to withstand as he's been trying hard to stand AMERICA back up on it's feet. Thank you to everyone who was involved even in the idea of honoring our PRESIDENT and FIRST LADY, BARACK and MICHELLE OBAMA.

Enjoy your vacation while it lasts... 18 months to go. Meanwhile American's are dying in storms, wars and elsewhere, but as long as you get your cheezy photo op, that's all that matters, right?

Seriously you're going to blame Obama for the weather and the wars? Get a grip! The wars were started by the last guy who used off balance sheet financing to pay for them and never included them in his budget. And let's not forget his "heckuva job brownie"!

It is the G8 summit and State Visit to the U.K. The American President can't cancel these events. If he limited his schedule for tornadoes, then he would not have worked all Spring.

        Have better critiques...

A great show by the royal family and British government to be sure but I can't help but wonder about the code name given our President – it was disrespectful. It could have been changed and I wonder why it wasn't? Playing the British national anthem over our President's toast to the Queen was downright rude. It's not like the orchestra hasn't done state dinners before. I can only hope these were honest mistakes and not subtle "commentary."

Get over yourself, Wow. GW Bush, his father, Ronald Reagan – the whole lot of them – would have posed for a similar picture with the Queen of England if the situation presented itself. President Obama will be in Oklahoma on Sunday. He is far more responsive to Americans in need or in crisis than anyone in the GOP ever was. Overall, he has accomplished more on his watch than many other American presidents. Nice try, though.

    Dear Mr. President,
Your country is being destroyed by floods and tornadoes, we have yet to fix the debt ceiling issue, and the Prime Minister of Israel is still pretty ticked off. Now that you've had your photo op with the Queen and had your pint of Guinness, please come back home and do your job!

    May 25, 2011 at 9:13 am |
  16. Consistency

Since when did State visits turn into simply cheesy photo ops? Would you rather the United States not make any State visits?

I wonder if you made the same comments when Bush made state visits abroad during the same wars (Iraq and Afghanistan) ? While the tornados are certainly a tragedy, should the president cancel all of the other visits to our allies and rush home to only be in the way of the rescue and recovery operations in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma?
I distinctly remember people complaining about that very thing when he made a trip to Alabama following the tornados in that state..

At least pretend to be consistent.

Just read the Liz Carter post.....I'm not sure I've ever read anything more comical. Do this, imagine Meryl Streep saying it in a movie scene and read it again.

On a side note....Mr. President, please stop committing faux pas and get to Joplin and OKC.

Obama is a joke of a President! The whole country is falling apart and the taxpayers are, again, paying for him and the Mrs. to go on yet another vacation! Obama should take lessons from Prime Minister Netanyahu as how to lead and protect his country and its people! Now, there is a real leader – Prime Minister Netanyahu! I only wish that someone in this country would emerge to take over the reigns from this idiot of a president we have! He's disgusting!

    May 25, 2011 at 9:16 am |
    • Really?

Didn't Netanyahu just have a vacation paid for to visit us? I mean literally he was here at the same time you are complaining about Obama being in Europe..

      May 25, 2011 at 9:25 am |
    • Anthrogirl it becuase he is a Black president doing his job? Where were you when Bush used our tax money to chase after oil in Iraq? Believe it or not, racism still runs in blood of this country. So please don't even give me the " stop playing the race card" speech because it just really proves my point.

      May 25, 2011 at 9:26 am |

So what you are saying is that the president should stop being a president and a representative of the USA to other nations because we have a storm, or have an economic crisis. This is his job, he is doing his job of trying to bring strong partnership and create positive allies that will continue to support the USA economy and in its endeavors. So he should just sit around the white house and sulk because we had a tragic storm.

Did you take off work because the storm hit this week? Did the rest of the USA take work off because of the tragic storm? Did Obama cause the storm? People need to re-evaluate why everything Obama does is wrong because all our former presidents visited other countries as part of their job regardless of tragedy or not, but Obama is wrong for doing just that..Why?

    May 25, 2011 at 9:19 am |
    • Wow

Yes, little white race hater, hundreds of people did just that... took work off this week to go help their neighbors and friends that have been devasted by these natural disasters.

      May 25, 2011 at 2:36 pm |
  20. Jeffrey

For those that say he is on a vacation, you do not understand that the role of the president is not only head of government but head of state. He is representing the U.S. overseas and has been keeping a rigorous schedule of meetings with foreign leaders. He will be attending the G8 summit this week with the heads of government of the most powerful nations. Yes, the storms in the U.S. have been devastating and tragic, but the American President must continue to represent 24/7 both domestically and internationally.

Don't understand the negative posts...All leaders of countries travel...its diplomatic and keeps us from being isolationists. What do you want the man to do? Hide away in the white house and shun the world? The expenses of that trip were for the most part absorbed by the hosting country as is expected of us when a foreign leader visits. These countries are allies and friends, allies that offered aid during 9/11, aid during Katrina (which was rejected by Bush), etc. The economy is just as bad elsewhere, and yet they still hosted our leaders. It should be appreciated as our leaders are representatives of the american public.

@WOW; When was it that you have ever expected any President to drop everything to come back from an already scheduled 'overseas' DIPLOMATIC trip because of whether-related natural disastors or any other event that's happening back here in the UNITED STATES? Would it make any difference with him sitting in Washington, rather than Buckingham Palace? Aren't the emergency workers and FEMA on their jobs? Or do you expect him to come back, get a hard hat, hop up on a forklift and personally start cleaning up too?

    May 25, 2011 at 10:52 am |
  26. Liz Carter in Georgia

When did we as Americans ever require such double-standard high expectations of ANY American President? The man addressed the event from GREAT BRITAIN, authorized FEMA, a 'BIG GOVERNMENT' agency; one of the ones claimed by 'haters' that needed to be shutdown, to go to work! You almost cut off your noses to spight your faces! He promised continous federal help to bring them back to satisfactory if not better conditions. What else do you clowns want? You're a bunch of haters, who hate those who respect him!

    May 25, 2011 at 11:33 am |
  27. Liz Carter in Georgia

My sympathy and prayers go out to the families of the lost and lives lost in these recurring 'natural disastors', however, what in the world can OBAMA do about that? Whatever help he sends, none of it can renew those lives. Out of hate and malice you folk have tried to label him all sorts of names, but he's not really 'THE MESSIAH' and can go down, lay hands and say RISE UP! This PRESIDENT is a great multitasker and has proved it over and over. He does not have to be sitting in the OVAL OFFICE to preside!

The reason the US is going to hell in a 'handbag' waaaaay deeper than anything to do with President Obama, FINKLESTEIN! The man isn't just running around the world playing. Like every other President has done, he's on a working, diplomatic 'vacation'; you envious, begrudging simpletons! AMERICA has been on the road to going to hell in a 'handbag' because of the condemnation of GOD himself against the evil, greedy, racist, supremast, devious, theiving, hypocritical divide that exists among her PEOPLE!

    May 25, 2011 at 1:14 pm |
  29. Liz Carter in Georgia

@Wow; speaking of the people who're dying in the 'wars', which is unthinkable, and I do believe with my whole heart is and has always been a waste, quite frankly a 'genocide' of the lives of AMERICAN men, and now-a-days, even more so, women for the greedy ambitions of a few, should be stopped. That's exactly why OBAMA's trying so hard to change the Old American Idea of 'THE ART OF WAR'! He wants to sit down and be able to work through international disagreements, using good diplomacy and compromise.

    May 25, 2011 at 1:44 pm |
  30. Liz Carter in Georgia

However, again, do you expect that the PRESIDENT of THE UNITED STATES to leave a 'high profiled event' on behalf of not only himself, but for the assurance of a continued good relationship of the two nations: THE US and THE UK? Come back home right now, go pick up a rifle, jump on a helicopter and go fight in the wars too? The man's doing his best to stop the 'status quo' of warring, PERIOD! Or is it that you just don't want OBAMA to recieve any of the well-deserved credit for these stabilizing assurances?

    • Wow

Could you possibly worship the ground this failed leader walks on anymore? OMG... He might not come home from his VACATION but he could at least acknowledge what is going on without waiting 3 days to do so. And since when is drinking beer in a pub in Ireland a diplomatic mission. He!! if that's all it takes, I should be a freaking Ambassador to someplace. On the war front: yeah, did he ever even serve a day in his life? Of course not, he was too busy smoking pot and plotting the downfall of the US during his college days to serve a day in his life. Kool-aid drinking !diots like you will continue to worship the ground your self-annointed king walks upon, 2012 will be here soon and then we can put this Nation back on track.

@Debby, OMG! 'dummies'? Don't look in the mirror then OK? @deb0155; he's a'joke of a president' and a 'idiot of a president', huh? Really? If you can list two reasons to us as to why you think your divisive character assassinations against the PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are true, maybe we can have a real debate. However, I still wonder how in the world can anyone in their right minds even consider such mean depictions of this president after George W Bush. You may NEED to look in the mirror!

    May 25, 2011 at 2:50 pm |
  32. Liz Carter in Georgia

@Wow, yes I will continue to defend him against people like you who are 'litte black race haters'! You are lying, he did NOT wait 3 days to acknowledge it! He heard about it at about the same time we were hearing about it and addressed it right away. YOU LIE! Furthermore, there are many previous of the 43 who were not military at all, OK? Bush really wasn't! Where did he go fight? Took a picture standing up there next to a plane. His own father was at least a WW2 veteran. Clinton wasn't military either! SO?

    May 25, 2011 at 3:46 pm |
  33. Liz Carter in Georgia

OK? Mr Ambassador want-to-be! Let's go with it! What did you do when you were in college? Or did you even go? I can't believe that anyone who had even passed through 'college doors' could make such a demeaning remark against the PRESIDENT such as you made about his college years. In America, real socialization into the AMERICAN SOCIETY often began in college; but it was what you did with it, that counted! If you 'smoked pot', but didn't let it 'smoke you', you were a winner! He didn't let it smoke him!

    May 25, 2011 at 4:16 pm |
  34. Liz Carter in Georgia

@Wow; BTW, I started trying my wings at socializing too when I was in college. I thought, 'OH! I'm a big girl now, and I'm in college now so I'm going to go out with the 'in crowd' and have fun'. I stepped up from the Kool-Aid to the spirits and wine coolers, but I drank it, I didn't let it drink me. I didn't let fun become my life's ambition! It was a growing up phase in my life that I passed through and let go. I have a 32 year federal employee career and am now retired. I'm a 'baby boomer' of the 40s.

    May 25, 2011 at 4:53 pm |
  35. Liz Carter in Georgia

Our previous president George W Bush was a drinker or worse, a drunk! Was he plotting the downfall of the US while he was in school? It looks like to me that nasty remark you made about OBAMA more suits him! I don't think he was, because he wasn't that smart, but that same quip could be lodged at him! So you idiots need to stop with your berations of OBAMA, because most times you're opening up cans of worms for others! We know what the real deal is. See I'm far from an idiot; but I DO like my Kool-Aid!
