Boehner, Cantor talk Obama meeting

House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor, among others, debriefed reporters after their meeting with President Obama earlier Wednesday.

"The fact that if we're gonna raise the debt limit the spending cuts should exceed the increase in the debt limit. Otherwise it'll serve to cost us jobs in our country," Boehner said, reiterating the position the GOP has held during the debt ceiling negotiations.

Consider this one of those times you'd like to be a fly on the wall - in the East Room of the White House as the president meets with the entire Republican House caucus Wednesday to discuss the debate over raising the debt ceiling.

CNN's Alan Silverleib previews the unconventional meeting.

President Barack Obama is scheduled to meet with congressional Republicans on Wednesday as part of the administration's ongoing debt-ceiling and related budget negotiations.

Vice President Joe Biden has been holding similar talks with a bipartisan congressional delegation in recent weeks.

A day earlier, the House defeated a measure to raise the national debt ceiling without any accompanying deficit or spending reduction provisions. It was a symbolic vote intended to send a message to budget negotiators.

POTUS schedule June 1, 2011

A day after House Republicans overwhelmingly voted against a measure to raise a symbolic vote debt cieling, President Obama will meet with the entire House Republican Caucus at the White House Monday, but we won't see any of it - all the events are closed to press coverage. 

Still, we can hope Republicans will debrief us on the meeting as they come out.
