Poll watch: Tough numbers in Virginia

Some brutally tough poll numbers Thursday out of Virginia, the purple state Obama won in 2008.

The topline numbers from the latest Quinnipiac poll:

Obama's job approval is plummeting among independent voters, who disapprove 62 – 29 percent, compared to a 54 – 41 percent disapproval June 30. Republicans disapprove 87 – 11 percent while Democrats approve 83 – 13 percent, down from 92 – 5 percent in June. Men disapprove 61 – 36 percent, as women disapprove 49 – 43 percent. White voters disapprove 67 – 28 percent, while black voters approve 83 – 11 percent.

Still, Obama is neck-and-neck with Rick Perry and Mitt Romey:

In possible 2012 matchups, Obama has 44 percent to Perry's 42 percent, while Romney gets 44 percent to Obama's 42 percent, all too close to call. Obama does much better against two other Republicans, besting Bachmann 48 – 37 percent and Palin 50 – 35 percent.

It's gonna be a dog fight in 2012! Anybody, who thinks that the next GOP presidential nominee, is a shoe in for the presidency, is highly delusional.

    Obama 2012!!!

Right, just like Arizona and NY this week. The dems can say all they want that those elections had nothing to do with BO, but we all know that just is not true.

Typical lamebrain liberal response. The fact is, Americans are finally waking up to what a terrible president Obama is ... and to how horrible his policies are.

The GOP will win across the board (Congress, Senate and the White House) in the 2012 election simply on advertised negative emotions. The American population is about to be scammed by the richest white business-orientated capitalists in history. The elimination of the 'middle class' is almost complete as the poverty levels increase and the corporate world finally rules the electoral process. The "you are either with us or against us" philosophy is about to finally be mission accomplished. In the end emotional stupidity beats out reason as panic has gripped the nation that once was.

Really? Lets not blame the person who is supposed to be leading this country for 3 years now. He is failing and people like you are letting him continue to do things that do not work. Do you really think raising taxes now will fix anything?
If you ran a company and had someone like him working for you your company would either fail or you would go in a different direction. Say what you will about the repubs, but the misery you are feeling now is the result of what BO has done (and continues to do).

If Obama is failing he's had a lot of help from the Republicants. He's had so much help that America may be headed for third world status in the not too distant future.

yeah, i might as well commit our very self as hostages!!!! us middle class people will be the next group of people in the below the poverty level...

You do not speak for the middle class. It is like the union people saying they speak for the "working people" when less than 5% of working people belong to unions – and the majority of those work for governmnet. Things are much worse now than under Bush. It is now 3 years into this guy's tenure and he presents a "jobs plan" his party doesn't want to vote for. He is a failure in all aspects of the job he holds.

  4. Anybody But BO

Nothing else need be said. He was elected because he was black and gave a pretty speech at the DNC. Since then, he's done nothing but screw things up. He is an idiot in foreign policy, fiscal management, and (fill in the blank).

He is the 21st Century's punchline to a very bad joke.

How bad does it need to get before you losers realize the leader of this country is the problem? If all the indicators were the same and Bush was in office you people would be screaming about how bad it is. Stop drinking the cool-aid...

During most of President Bush's term of 8 years, Jan 2001 – Jan 2009, we enjoyed low unemployment. Barry campaigned during the summer of 2008 saying how horrible the numbers were. Wow, wish we had 5.6 % unemployment now. Looking back the numbers really do not look that bad.

So glad I live in Canada. Lots of taxes and regulations, but we still have gazillionaires. Our recession is in way better shape. The crap that the right wants the gulible amongt the electorate to eat up, they are. And it looks like its working. So many of you vote against your own self interests simply because you are TOLD to, and cannot think for yourselbes. I mean why else would a middle class worker making 40k a yr pray for more of what got you all in that mess...REPUBLIKLAN RULE. I guess Forrest was right...STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES.

You're one nasty, foul-mouthed joke, Joe! Whatever your claims turn out to be, whether they have any simulance of truth in them or just out and out propagated lies, they always lose steam and ANY validity, due to your name-calling, perpetual disrespectful, on-going personal attacks against the President! 'Screw the Bastard'?!? Unless it's Howard, Pete, John or Jay you're posting your poison for, it loses quite a bit of relevance to most other thoughtful political watchers such as jean2009, C-lo and me! LOL!
