Obama admits to Pakistan drone strikes

Maybe it was one of the worst kept secrets in Washington and Pakistan, but U.S. officials rarely admit publicly to the active use of drones to hunt down Al Qaeda and Taliban in Pakistan. One reason is out of deference to the Pakistan, whose government relents to the drone flights even while publicly condemning it because the Pakistani populace is so against the strikes.

That being said, the president on Monday casually revealed to his Google+ hangout that "a lot of these strikes have been in the FATA, and going after al Qaeda suspects who are up in very tough terrain on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. For us to be able to get them in another way would involve probably a lot more intrusive military actions than the one we're already engaging in." (FATA being the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan where Al Qaeda and many Taliban are ensconced).

Maybe if the president actually didn't say he was going to do the opposite of what he actually does...

Odd, I watched a show on the Packastan drone attacks in the tribal regions not long after Obama took office and have seen reports on this on TV news shows for years now...So why are the Republican's making a big deal out of it now? It has been common knowledge for years and has been talked about on the news documentary type shows fairly often – Are the Republican's that convinced that their followers are completely clueless and wouldn't know the difference between common knowledge and some conspiracy they suddenly tried to manufacture ? Weird – but not too surprising – given the endless falsehoods stated in the debates.

I wonder...if there is anyone who sees the danger in these drone hits? Is anyone concerned that obama ordered that African rescue of a religious zealot and foreign anthropologist (who's country would have nothing to do with the killing)..timed to coincide with the state of the union reelection campaign speech?

Why is the eric holder contempt of congress story not reporting?

Can you all think for your selves? Do you see danger?

oh...do you know the US is building drone bases all over Africa? How much do you know about the current condition of the middle east...? Do you know the middle east is on fire and the risk of this to the worlds economy? Did you know obama is going to attach Iran..as he did Lybia.

ex lax jerry strikes again. Why do we even bother reading his comments. pure garbage. The repo candidates want to go to war with Iran for gosh sakes.Of course we are using drones. Who else but this president has been able to cripple the talaban and al quida. Not the repo creeps that started this mess with all their loud mouth boasting. And mission accomplished garbage, Patriotic rethoric is all a sham with the repos as is family values. Thank God we have a president with balls to enough to take some chances. While the repos posture about how they would stand up to Iran and what they would do in Pakistan he just does it. Obama/Biden 2012

If it were not for President Bush...well, goof balls like you just would not understand. Listen to this: The middle east is falling apart, China and Russia have NO respect for America, and we have 10% real unemployment (as reported by the CBO today, and probably closer to 19%). The obama experiment just has to over...we can't continue as we have these past three years...unless you just wont to see America implode. No reasonable thinking human being would vote obama another term...

I live in Chicago (Edgewater, north side, on the lake). Random points:1. Nobody heard of Obama until he ran for US Senate. He was a state rep (state setane? Don't remember, sorry), but lots of people here don't know who their state rep is. His popularity has always seemed artificial and a bit creepy, like a fad that won't fade away.2. Chicago is slowly and steadily gentrifying. Young, high-income, liberal (or lefty) couples that live in town and work in the suburbs. Somewhat detached from the realities of life. One hopes that they will stop seeing the city as their playground and start seeing it as their home. Not sure how that will turn out.3. Hey, it's better than Detroit. Okay, that isn't saying much...
