An early Easter

Easter came early for some of the military families at the Fisher House at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. And, it was First Lady Michelle Obama who came bearing pastries from the White House. Bo, the first dog dressed in bunny ears accompanied the first lady on her visit.

“It is always one of my favorite things to do, to come to the Fisher House,” said the first lady holding a basket of Easter cookies, “This house is a home away from home for so many of our military families.”

The Fisher House is a refuge for veterans and their families as they receive medical care at Walter Reed. On Wednesday, 19 of those families took part in making arts and crafts, with the first lady on hand to spend some time chatting and signing autographs.

The families are among the 73 that live on the premises at Walter Reed, there are 57 Fisher Houses across the country in total.

Wednesday’s event is a part of Mrs. Obama’s campaign to bring recognition and support to military families. It’s been a year since the First Lady and Dr. Jill Biden kicked-off their “Joining Forces” initiative, and next week the two will hit the road on a two-day tour (which will include an appearance on the Colbert report, while in New York City) to celebrate its one year anniversary.

As she departed Mrs. Obama bid everyone adieu until Monday, when they will gather again, amongst many other revelers, for the annual Easter Egg Roll on the White House South Lawn.

Out of the country? You do know that the oil is from the Athabasca Oil Sands in northeastern Alberta, Canada.

Yes, the oil sands are in eastern Canada....but Canada want to ship it to China with the least amount of cost.

British Columbia and Canada itself doesn't want the pipeline going throw the Rockies to the Pacific due to the environmental concerns for the Great Bear Rainforest, especially the cost of lawsuits by the indigenous First Nation Communities who would partner with environmental groups to fight the pipeline to the Pacific. Also that western route would take years and billions in cash.

I guess, Canada would rather put it through the heartland of American where it would put the aquifer of Kansas and the heartland of America's environment at risk. That is if they can bamboozle American idiots on the right to do that.

Anyway you look at this the tar sands oil is not destined for America use, nor will it make gasoline cheaper here. Once it gets to the tax free zone at the gulf it can be sold to the highest bidder on the world market.

Sorry my typing seems to be all a fumble this morning.

Canadian Tar Sands Oil will not create thousands of American jobs, it will not cut our dependency on foreign oil, nor will it cut the price of gasoline at the pumps. Actually it will make the price of gasoline go up.

If we really want to put manpower into building something why not rebuilding bridges, roads, sewer and waterlines?

How do we do that we eliminate the tax-breaks for big oil?

Jean, we all know you have a love affair going with BO. This makes all of your comments as bias as it gets.

If only the rest of government would care so much for our veterans as the first ladies. Proud of Mrs. Obama and Biden.

As a military vet myself, I am sure the families appreciate the care and concern of the First Lady. Do we really have to politicize EVERYTHING? Truth is...this is a great gesture, regardless of politics!!

As someone who disagrees with most of the policies of this administration I do agree with you. This is a great thing for her to do. Keep this stuff up Mrs. Obama, good job, it is needed and well appreciated.
