Obama's disappointing jobs numbers

President Obama was in Minneapolis, MN today to tout his latest economic plan- to create a job bank for veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. But with this morning's disappointing jobs numbers, he didn't dwell on the numbers and took a broader approach to economic recovery.  CNN's Brianna Keilar traveled with him to the Honeywell factory which employs dozens of veterans for the president's speech.

Also, take a peek from the  full story from our friends at CNN wires:

(CNN) - President Barack Obama hit the road for campaigning and fundraisers Friday, arguably the worst day so far in his re-election bid due to a disappointing employment report that brought sharp Republican attacks led by certain GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

In a visit to a Honeywell International plant in suburban Minneapolis, Obama announced new efforts to help war veterans find work back home using the skills they learned in the military.

He also urged Congress to establish a Veterans Jobs Corps modeled on the Civilian Conservation Corps of decades past.

However, the employment report earlier Friday that showed lower-than-expected growth of 69,000 jobs last month and a rise in the unemployment rate to 8.2% provided Romney and Republicans an opening to ratchet up their incessant criticism of Obama's economic policies.

WHO CARES ABOUT JOBS? LETS TALK ABOUT ABORTION. – REPUBLITARDS OF CONGRESS

The millions of people out of work and unable to care for their families care about job numbers. Obama is a dismal failure – his 17,000 new pages of anti-business regulations, his constant threatr of new taxes on job creators and his destabilization of the economy by his reckless spending is destroying the economy

You mean two years of health care backdoor deals? Well, there was an appropriate number of Congressmen taking unemployment for that one.

SO IF WE SUDDENLY DEREGULATE LIKE BEFORE WE FELL OFF A FINANCIAL CLIFF EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE? OOOOKAY. WHAT IS IT ABOUT YOU REPUBLITARDS AND RULES? SOME KIND OF ALLERGY? BETTER GET THAT CHECKED.

THE BUSH TAX CUTS ARE STILL HERE EVEN THOUGH WE ARE SINKING DEEPER INTO DEFICIT. YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Let's put more regulation out there like the Barney/Dodd Bill to prevent any more financial loses, yet Chase lost billions just shows that they have no clue.

NOT SURE WHAT YOUR POINT IS. THE RULES ARE IN PLACE TO PREVENT A TOTAL COLLAPSE. MAYBE YOU SHOULD ASK CHASE WHY THEY ARE STUPID ENOUGH TO LOSE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON THEIR OWN.

Even as an incumbent ... with a bully pulpit for 3 1/2 years ... 2 years with the White House and both houses of congress on his side ... 3 1/2 years with the entire media behind him ... all the Hollywood celebrities behind him ... millions and millions of dollars more than his opponent ... and, Obama is still falling behind Romney !!! This can only happen because Obama is a terrible President !!! It's obviously time for new leadership !!!

White House on disastrous jobs report: Problems in the labor market won’t be solved “overnight,” you know

Anyone want to try defining “overnight” for me, just so that we have a rule of thumb going forward? On Inauguration Day, I would have accepted “2009″ or even “his first two years in office” as plausible answers. Instead, five months out from election day, somehow dawn still has yet to break. His braintrust is now actually on the cusp of arguing, in all seriousness, that it’s unfair to judge him on what’s happened in the jobs market over the course of his entire first term.

What do you do when America’s just taken an economic gut punch, with a vicious European uppercut soon to follow? You hold six fundraisers, naturally:
President Obama Friday will attend six fundraisers, a possible sign of budding desperation for a campaign that is lagging far behind its initial fundraising expectations.

Obama will travel to Minneapolis, where he will ensconce himself at the Bachelor Farmer Restaurant for three successive fundraising events. Afterward, he moves on to Chicago for a fundraiser at the Chicago Cultural Center and then two events at what appear to be separate private residences.
Have a look at who’ll be at his Chicago fundraiser. It must be a comfort to him, with so much going wrong, to spend time with old friends.

SO WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM? OBAMA DIDN'T SEND YOU AN EVITE TO HANG OUT? YOU KNOW HE WOULD HAVE BUT YOUR STALKING WAS KIND OF CREEPY.

Found this interesting and covers what I have been saying about focusing on green/clean technology.

      http://www.theatlanticcities.com/jobs-and-economy/2012/06/americas-economic-rebound/2087/

A new book by Donald Gross: "Better, Stronger, Faster: The Myth of American Decline ... and the Rise of a New Economy."

The unemployment picture nationally depends are where you are located. Ohio's rate is 7.4%.

dreamer96: is correct the GOP were the first to push for a federal mandate back in 1993.

      http://samuel-warde.com/2012/05/the-gop-invented-the-individual-mandate/

"As a result the Republican Health Care bill of 1993 [Senate Bill S.1770], written by GOP Senator John Chafee of Rhode Island, included a provision for an “Individual Mandate”
"Newt Gingrich has argued for the “individual mandate as recently as 2008. Mitt Romney backed a federal “individual healthcare mandate” in 1994 and urged President Obama to “embrace the ‘individual mandate’ “ federally in 2009."
Yet another case of what the GOP was for until they were against it.

Two presidents with business degrees and questionable experience: George W. Bush and Herbert Hoover.

People like Jersey Bill seem to forget that:
Writing 6 books and finding a publisher that will pay to publish them, that is not only business experience but being business savvy. Writing is a business...if you don't believe that... think Stephen King, James Patterson, Louis L'amour there is even a name for it: Authorpreneurship
      Writing a book takes creativity.
      Takes diligence.
      Involves research.
Knowing what the public wants to read about.
      Knowing how to present it.
      Marketing skills.

Writers sometimes start out as insurance salesmen too and hang out in the bar where the CIA workers go after work...then write books and get called before a Congressional Hearing where they are asked about magnetic drive systems for Soviet Subs...and that same writer seems to hear all the latest news ..llike home made curise missile attacks before 9/11/2001 and even makes jokes about it...

On the morning of 9/11/2001 NORAD was running drills about hijacked passenger jets used as homemade curise missile to attack our government buildings....and the real attacks confused NORAD so bad, they called off scrambled jets sent to intercept one of the hijacked passenger jets....What good is it to have intelligence agencies if the people at the top fail to use the information....Google John P. O'Neill..former FBI agent, on team tracking Bin Laden, forced out of his job..was working as head of secuirty at the Twin Towers on 9/11/2001....he had no way to stop those passenger jets...even through he had warned about them...just one of the 12 different sources of groups and individuals that issused warning through DOD and US intelligence networks..

I am still voting for him because I know the republicans are the cause of all this, they would rather see our country go down and watch us suffer so they can get back into the White House but it won't work. Romney will screw up being evil and would stoop to any low to get elected.

Marylin you are very misinformed, wake up and do some research, quit watching your soaps and pay attention to the world.

      • Name*Liz Carter

Scott, she is NOT misinformed at all. The Rethuglicans ARE the cause of all of this dog and pony show of ill-behavior and disrespect to not ONLY Obama, but to THEMSELVES as so-called, Republicans who were elected by the people to represent the people. They are NOT representing the people and have not represented the PEOPLE since George Bush was elected!! Marilyn is RIGHT!! They have vowed to their OWN consituents demise, that President Obama would be a 'One Term President', and have proved that they meant business by not standing by him on ANYTHING he's done to rectify the fall of 'NEW BABYLON'!!! They'd rather the whole nation and it's people go down in SMOKE, to keep that vow!!! They are devils to the highest degree, and WILL answer to GOD for what they have done and what they are still doing!! Especially since they claim to be SUCH THE 'Christians'!!! You do some research Mr Scott!! You may start with the BIBLE, right where it says to 'pray for those who are in authority over us'; NOT to berate, dismiss, denounce, demean, trip, sabotage, condemn, obstruct and HOPE they FAIL!!! You know darn well this is a strategically built plan, set by the loosers, to pull down the greatness of Barack H Obama, The President of The United States; elected by the PEOPLE!! Intelligence in America is denouncing it at every turn, so you do your research!! We will NOT allow Willie Lynch to 'lynch' this black man laying down, nor standing back, looking up at the rope around his neck!! OK?? Those 'good ole days' are just about over!! Obama/Biden 2012!!! Yes we will again Marilyn!!!

Marilyn is right. If the Republicans would allow at least one jobs bill to pass, I'm sure we would be breaking into the 6-7% unemployment rates. A stalled congressional engine causes the boat to simply float.

President Turman sold men's clothing before he became a politican...He knew how to read people real well though...Obama is a far better choice then a third term of the GWBush Admin..Mitt Romney has already picked 15 or 17 of GWBush Administration for his Administration...That will make Mitt Romeny's Presidency a third term of GWBush...and that would be a big mistake...for every American except the top 1%...

Really? The GOP in the House have passed 25 jobs bills, but Obama and Reid won't even allow them to come to the Senate floor for debate. The Democrats haven't passed a budget since 2009. Obama's last two budgets were voted down by his own party: 97-0 in the Senat4e last year and 99-0 in the Senate and 414-0 in the House this year. And meanwhile the debt keeps growing and destabilizing the economy making businesses afraid of investing in America

That alone speaks of ones true nature and character....forget about the polical BS.....think for a second......blinded by all the other the Repugs out there and false accusations.....do research and understand for yourselfs the truth.....But at the heart of it is Obama being black......If you pay attention to all the crap that has went down since he took office.....You will see.....God bless your souls....

I am not sure how logically anyone could somehow blame Mr. Obama. Congress controls the purse strings. Congress has done absolutely nothing to stimulate the economy. Congress has shaved 500,000 government jobs, adding a full percentage point to the unemployment roles. This congress is anti-American. I will be voting for President Obama.

James, you are right, and it is also nothing less than treason. @Carl,..you're also right, and Americans need to take a stand against this racist fiasco because that's ALL it is!! If Obama's father was also white, he wouldn't be going through this circus of BS everyday. We the people need to fire the whole Congress and send all new and intelligent thinking people there to work WITH him!! People who believe and want 'CHANGE'; people who will work together to resolve the issues and ACTUALLY represent the voters who sent them there!! Those fools up there are representing their own selves and taking eersonal attitudes against this President and with this mindset, nothing will ever 'COLLECTIVELY' be done in Washington!!

It doesn't matter who controls the House. In the 110 th Congress 2007-2009. The make up of the Senate was 49R to 49D and 2 independents....definitely not a 60 filibuster proof senate.
        The 109th congress 2005-2007 was House: 202 D to 231 R and 1 Independent 1 vacancy and Senate 44 D to 55 R 1 independent.

I am really a little green alien from the planet Obamanite and I am here to spread the word for my master Obama. Now so far only the Obama zombies can understand the word so we are looking for some good translators to work on turning a record of complete failure into a theme of super rock star so he can fell the love again. Any earthlings will to join? We got Clinton in Wis. Saying he is against divide and conquer so as to foll the people who were thinking well hell isn't that what Obama has been doing. SO we need some translators to sell the Idea it is really not Obama who is the great divider. Now that we pulled the knife that Clinton used out of Obama's back when he supported Romney we really need some great spin masters as well.

      Hmm Ray

The only problem with Obama Care is no Public Option....In my town the Hospitals, and Health Insurance companies have been adding to their buildings...profits are up, top management is getting pay raises, and big bonuses...And the claims agent that denies the most claims, still gets the biggest yearly bonus...They know hundreds of ways to deny a claim, refuse to pay because the paperwork has a minor problem...delay, delay, and hope the person just dies off after making payments for decades...If just need to take the greed out of Health Care...we would save billions....and don't forget Mexico and Canada pay 60% less for the same drugs, that we pay full price for....Bush's prescription drug bill for seniors, which will cost over 7 trillion over the ten years of the bill, pays 75% of the drugs full price..no negotiating of the drug price...what a great deal for the drug makers..what a bad deal for the taxpayers..

The only people complaining about the Affordable Health Care Act are the free-riders. Those who can afford it but would rather not buy insurance so when they get sick everyone else picks up their costs.

      http://www.csmonitor.com/Commentary/Opinion/2012/0326/Individual-mandate-in-Obama-s-health-care-law-good-for-freedom-bad-for-free-riders

      June 2, 2012 at 12:48 pm |
      • dreamer96

I know many people that retire and then have to drop their health insurance...the cost jumped too high for them to pay any more....Yes there are some free riders..but remember that the number one reason for bankruptcies is medical bills...and job loss is number two..job loss also means loss of health care coverage too....And if you get sick and have to go to the hospital without insurance..the first question they ask is "Do you own your home, or any property?"....many sick American's that can not afford health insurance but own a home are finding out the hospitals will take their homes and sell them at auctions..cheap to cover their medical bills....Just visit the local courthouse and see just how many homes are being taken away from the sick uninsured Americans these days...I know of small towns in Iowa where the Hospitals and Retirement Homes own most of the homes in the town..

SO Jean2009....many good Americans are not getting a free ride..they are not going to get health care until they are really sick and they are giving up their homes for the health care...

        June 2, 2012 at 1:08 pm |
      • jean2009

        Dreamer 96
That is because not all the parts of the Affordable Health Care Act are in place and won't be until 2014. At this point we do not have a mandate in place.

Personally, I know our retiree health insurance rates have either stayed the same or declined over the last 3 years.
The Medicare Part A monthly cost has increased slightly, the Self purchased Part D has decreased... and the cost for the retiree self purchased secondary insurance has stayed the same.

I probably keep a closer eye on this than most people because of a retired husband who has Multiple Sclerosis.
President Obama's changes to the Part D benefit means we no longer pop through that co-pay doughnut hole every year, which meant we had a lot of out of pocket expenses when that happened....and if you want to be honest Part D drug benefit is a mandate any way you slice it... or dice it. You will be penalized if you don't sign up for it when you hit 65.

The economic picture won't be truly fixed until health care, education and the infrastructure are working..and we shut off the war machine.

        June 2, 2012 at 5:53 pm |
  10. Ray E. (Georgia)

Some fail to understand the problem. When the people depend on the government for health care hospitials have to get enough money to stay in business. That is because of probably too many not paying. So the hospitial bills the taxpayers usually in the local area and the government for services. If people were to pay for their own health care with some porivate insurer, the bill would probably be a lot less. One of those problems is Malpractice.insurance. A few years ago a lot of doctors in florida quit because of the high cost of malpractice insurance. If government got completely out of the medical business prices would drop like a rock.

It is said the Road To Hell is Paved with Good Intentions. Obama Care was supposed to be a good idea. A few said, if you think health care is high now, just wait until it's free. I have been thru the system. I have had bills that were ten times what it ought to be. The Government has no business in the Medical Business. I remeber when Lyndon Johnson got Medicare passed. I thought then Johnson just gave the doctors Carte Blanche. It was stupid then, it is many times worse today.

    June 2, 2012 at 11:50 am |
    • jean2009

No thanks we've tried that it doesn't work...only the rich can afford it and the private insurers only cover those who are well until they get sick.

      June 2, 2012 at 12:43 pm |
      • Ray E. (Georgia)

        Humm,
Do I read you right Jean? You can't pay your own health expenses so you want me to pay for it ? I'm sorry Jean but I am fresh out of stipends. It was reported a few years ago that the Hospitials in Houston were 100 million dollars in the red. Who knows what it is today. Governmentt Health Care??? Dismal Jobs Report??? Food Stamps?? What other good idea do you have?? We've had Lyndon Johnson and Obama and the Summer of Recovery. Money from home???.

        June 2, 2012 at 1:07 pm |
    • jean2009

In what alternate universe do you live....health care for SS recipients is not and never has been free...a withdrawal is made each month for both Part A medicare health premium, and the amount for Part D is withdrawn and paid to your mandated designated Part D prescription provider...and then you either purchase a secondary on the open market, or your retiree pension plan is withdrawn from your monthly retirement check.

If you are still employed and have health insurance coverage that is withdrawn from your paycheck.

And it galls you so that it is the absolute truth....
This from the Daily Kos is just a partial list of the destruction George W. Bush cost this country.
"The partial tally of what this nation lost under President Bush so far:

      • The World Trade Center
      • A piece of the Pentagon
      • Five or six trillion dollars–again, so far
      • A doubled national debt
      • Over six-thousand dead American soldiers and over forty-seven-thousand wounded (not to mention billions of dollars in weapons, supplies, and equipment blown up, wasted, or stolen)
      • Untold numbers of Iraqis, Afghanis, and Pakistanis dead and wounded, and thousands of refugees
      • The sympathy and the cooperation of almost every nation on the planet
      • A big chunk of New Orleans
      • The housing market
      • Every amendment in the Bill Of Rights except the second
      • A valuable CIA agent specializing in nuclear counter-proliferation
      • Safe airline travel
      • Safe food
      • Safe water
      • Safe, regulated exploration for and extraction of coal, oil, and gas
      • Impartial climate science
      • The integrity of the Justice and Interior departments
      • Years of government research on climate change
      • Eight years of stem cell research
      • The nation's moral standing on war crimes and torture
      • Two million jobs
      • Fair elections
      • The integrity of the private property system
      • Trillions of dollars swindled from Americans by banks you refused to regulate
      • The Kyoto Treaty
      • Three-thousand points off the Dow"

Just the current congressional foot dragging on our all out focus on green and clean technology...will cost us dearly for the future on jobs, and wealth.

Mitch McConnell is pulling all his strings to make Obama a one term President.....Mitch McConnell who got kicked out of the military early..ever wonder why?.....The jobs numbers are down because the loss of Federal and local government jobs was down...Well That is funny..

In last years meeting of the 50 state governors they claimed over 100 billion in state deficits..but it is larger then that...
Texas has a 27 billion state deficit alone....and last time they used all of their 6.4 billion in stimulus money to pay their last state deficit of 6.7 billion and put 9.8 billion into the Texas state rainy day fund...and laid off 40,000 teachers...

Who ever wins the elections..taxes are going up..The only we can do is decide if the GOP will raise the taxes on the middle class or the Democrats will raise taxes on the top 1% and remove the tax loop holes for the rich...

Obama did not send soldiers to Iraq to get killed and kill innocent people with a lie, as a matter of fact he just killed our enemy that will never be able to plan another 9/11, he finally stopped the war and is going to stop the other one. The Republicans will just take from our soldiers and that will just come back ill with no help. He might not be the best but Romney will be a disaster.

Hey NAM Vet. Get you shit together and do your research. The jobs numbers are low because the
Rebuplitards denied americans many offers of jobs bills. Moreover, american became increasingly angry at the congress for not passing any jobs bill proposals. So blame the the new tea bagging congress for not having any jobs. No matter whos in the President Office, your gona have to spend money to create jobs and the wealthy 1 percent are not going to do it. They'd rather support communism and send jobs to China. Nam Vet, 'impeach him let the Congress began to do the will of the people'?? They should have already been doing the 'WILL OF THE PEOPLE'!! They aren't doing the will of the people simply because that's exactly what President is doing or is trying do! Whatever he agrees with or even thinks is a good idea, and should be drawn-up and implemented, they don't like the idea; Oh now it's a bad one!!! WHY??? One guess!! Hmmmm,... I know!!! Obama likes it, he thinks it's workable..Let's ALL just say NO!! This the reason Nam Vet; they don't care about 'the people's will'!! They care about their own personal agendas and they ALL hate President Obama, so even against the peoples will, they are ready to let the nation FALL, to make sure OBAMA FAILS!! That is it!! PERIOD!! I don't care what anyone says, I know this is EXACTLY what it is!! The whole Congress needs to be 'TERMINATED'!! FIRED!!

The Will of the people. Of course. That is what has been happening for the last 75 years. There are Constutitional Limits. But Franklin Deleno Roosevelt violated the Constutition as did Lyndon Baines Johnson and did Obama. The results are a nearly 16 Trillion dollar debt and today a Dismal Jobs Report to go with it. There is no free lunch. You will pay somewhere. When people vote against their own best interests, it will come back tp bite them. You give people an inch and they will take a mile. The Liberals have been held somewhat at bay but they get loose once in a while and do great damage. Today it is Obama Care and the result is lack of jobs. Will it be better next week?? Pretty doubtful.

Why do the job numbers remain low? Demand.

Why is demand low? Unemployment is high, so fewer people can buy stuff.

Why is unemployment high? No one is hiring.

It makes me sick that the media is saying 69,000 jobs is a failure or disappointment it isn't. The only way it would be a bad thing is if we had a negative. It is sad that when Obama was able to do something without opposition he didn't take advantage of it. but he didn't and now the Republicans will stand in the way until election day, even if it hurts America. He did promise to let the Bush tax breaks expire and he didn't (at the Republicans used as leverage to pass the health bill) and now our deficit continues to grow. With all that I will still vote for him because Romney has no idea how the middle class lives and struggles.

So what does Obama know about "middle class struggles"? His Healthcare 'reform' will do more damage to them than that idiot Reagan did. "Obama's disappointing jobs numbers"

Actually, I think a more appropriate statement would be Obama and congress' disappointing jobs numbers. After all, the president cannot unilaterally do a whole lot without congress – they are equally if not more responsible for the poor jobs numbers. After all, during the 2010 wave the constant mantra was jobs, jobs, jobs – well mr. boehner – where are the jobs – and jobs legislation – you and your party promised? Where are the jobs Mr. Boehner?

    June 3, 2012 at 11:07 pm |

Ever wonder why when President Obama wanted to get his Jobs Bill passed, the Repubs mantra was "government doesn't create jobs' – remember that? Now, it's all Obama's fault that the job numbers went down. Since all the Repubs know is DOOM & GLOOM, of course they would say a decrease in the numbers is a bad thing, when in fact, there were still NEW jobs created!! Get it people – new jobs were still created in the private sector. It's very easy for the Repub governors to tweak their numbers as it will be easy for them to manipulate the election. But, here's another funny thing, when the numbers were higher the Repubs said that they were wrong and that Obama was lying, but now that it's a lower #, all of a sudden it's the truth!! The manufacturing jobs we used to have are gone. None of the tax cuts tirckled down to our middle class. Contrary to what Boehner has preached the money went to off-shore manufacturing and developing new foreign markets. Stimulus for our exports must represent recipricol trade only. Ask for trade quotas to be brought back and watch Corporate America scramble to stop any protectionist program that could stimulate new jobs for Amreicans. We have been diminished as workers and consumers.
