Do you mean Warren Buffet is a Rethugliklan, and Bill Gates and Jeffrey Katzenberg don't employ people?

As I remember it when the ship of state was handed to the President, the last drunk sailor at the helm had depleted the treasury, wrecked the ship, tanked the stock market, and jobs losses for the 2 months of November & December 2008 were 1.3 million.

Actually, Ray, it's consumer spending that gets people hired and if the overwhelming majority of Americans don't have money to spend, we need no additional products and services and therefore there will be no more jobs. The wealthy cannot spend enough to make this ship of state – it takes a strong middle class that is seeing their earning power increase. Unfortunately that hasn't happened in a long time. And if the GOPs want to cut out help to the middle class and the poor who spend most or all of what they earn, the economy isn't going to get any better. Anyone who is buying the snake oil that Romney is selling ought to do some economic research.

    Well Folks,
There is only one system out there. When you go to the grocery store and the shelves are always full. Thank a Republician. If you have a nice place to work, thank a Republician. If you have good roads to drive on, thank a Republician. If you have electricity, thank a Republician. If you have all the necessities of life, in abundance, thank a Republician. But if you don't like the system, stop using the system!!! The people in Wisconsin "Got It". Some people still have a lot to learn.

Obama was talking about the big corporations and the stock market. Big corporations are very profitable today & the stock market is well above what it was when Obama took office. His choice of words could have been clearer, though.

Perhaps, the GOP should pounce on its candidate for suggesting the first thing he would do is approve the Keystone pipeline to get the economy going to create jobs. Unfortunately, those jobs can be immediately created in Canada as we speak to clean up the latest pipeline leak threatening drinking water and other health issues. Yes, I know Americans don't read or watch anything outside their borders but try this just once and then tell me your Republican Governor of Nebraska was wrong. Humm,
Let's re-visit the question/statement by Obama. He said the Economy was doing just fihe Economy was doing just fine. OK. But what about 47 million on Food Stamps, 8 to 16 percent unemployment, millions on millions of morgages in forcloture, etc.

A big part of the current problem of High unemployment was the housing bubble. So what caused the Housing Bubble. It is mostly blamed on Chris Dodd, Democrat Senator from Conn. and Barney Frank, Democrat Congressman from Mass. Both retiring by the way. A lot of people went before Congress and complained that they couldn't qualify for a housing loan. Now believe it or not, Banks are regulated by Law from making loans to people that are on the edge and need more assets to qualify.

Look at it this way. You have a Savings Acount at a bank and over the years you have saved enough so when you retire you will have extra income and are fixed for retirement. But if the bank loans out your money, that's what they do and it isn't paid back you are out of your money. So there are regulations to keep it fairly safe.

So the government forced Banks to make risky loans to people that couldn't qualify otherwise. Who konws how many risky loans were made, sold to Fanne Mae or Freddy Mac backed up by the Government, the Tax Payer. When the regular payments came due, millions of people couldn't make the payments and Banks lost tons of money. Lehman Bro's Lost 600 Billion alone. Now the Tax payers are on the hook for all that money. By the way, Bush tried to stop it, but was out voted.

Obama is mostly ignoring the debt and spending like there is an endless supply of money. Republician's didn't cause the current fiscal problems but you can vote to put the brakes on in November or step on the accelator. Good luck.

Obviously you haven't heard of FDIC, or that the Emergency Stabilization Act of 2008 was signed by George W.Bush on October 3, 2008, or that Reaganomics and tax breaks for the wealthy is behind the infrastructure being in such horrible state..

      June 10, 2012 at 11:59 am |
      • Ray E. (Georgia)

Yes I am aware of the FDIC. So why did millions of homeownere default on their Morgages? With Strong Banking Regulations, the FDIC and common sense there should have been no Housing Melt Down but it happened. Why? Because democrats forced the banks to make risky loans and you see the results. You want your cake and eat it too Jean. Unfortuntanly Obama has no clue or is an idiot in over his head. You can look for the Nation to go like Wisconsin voted in the re-call. For all practical purposes, Obama is Toast in November. Now it is a Tossup between him and Jimmy Carter of who is the worst President of all time. I don't make the News, I just report the News. The Cold Hard Facts are rearing their ugly head.

Luv ya Jean but people defaulted on their morgages because they couldn't pay their Morgages. We bought a new house in 2004. I have a Sister-in-Law that works in a bank thet writes morgages. Prople could get housing loans without any documentation. All they had to do was apply. Dodd Frank you know. And Jean, after Obama got the Morgage Modification Act or something like that in place, most people didn't/couldn't take advantage of it, BECAUSE they still couldn't pay the morgage, even with adjustments.. Can't blame Glass-Stegall for thet. People were getting loans where they only had to pay the interest, not the principal. We already paid our house off, Big money, ya know.

        June 10, 2012 at 8:31 pm |
      • Kool-Aid Police

Clinton agreed to get rid of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933, but of course you don't mention that tid bit.

        June 11, 2012 at 7:06 am |
      • jean2009

        Dear Ray,
I was not blaming Glass-Steagall I was blaming Gramm, Leach, Bliley. which allowed commercial banks, investment banks, security, and insurance firms to consolidate and basically write their own rules of deregulation. Which lead to a lot of wholesale risk taking.

Some of the top reasons for bankruptcy resulting in foreclosure are:
        Unexpected overwhelming medical expenses.
        Loss of job.
        Student loans.
        Separation & divorce
        Property is underwater
...and Ray during my 77 years we have bought and paid in full for 7 properties. But then we were lucky because each time the property was worth more than what was paid for it.

You must remember Gramm, Leach, Bliley was signed during a boom...not the horrible economy that was produced by welfare for the rich under George W. Bush, with his two unfunded wars.

      Jean2009,

Here we go again! Why do you ALWAYS fail to mention GLB was signed into LAW by a Democrat (Bill Clinton)? Why do yo ALWAYS fail to mention GLB had DEM support. BILLS have NO authority, Jean. LAWS do! It is quite apparent you have never seen, "I'm Just A Bill" on "School House Rock"! Back to the drawing board with you, Missy!

BTW Ray E. is right purchasers got big eyes while having small wallets! Not all of them but some bought more house than they KNOW they could have otherwise afforded if not for financial trickery!

Except that's not what he said. The President said that "the private sector is doing fine", as distinguished from the public sector, which has seen considerable job loss. No one can deny that a lot of the private business sector has done very well.

All it will take is one more bad jobs report and Obama will really show a drop in the polls. He's said several times already that "We've turned the corner", but I don't think he has any clue at all. He has no business or economic experience at all yet acts like he knows everything.

    June 10, 2012 at 3:21 pm |
  11. dreamer96

Gee dirty politics...Just maybe all the GOP state governors fired state employees and told their labor departments to under report the new jobs numbers..and increase the unemployed numbers..Each state can, and does, play with their jobs and unemployment numbers...they can swing the numbers up or down if they want too...and the GOP governors want too...to hurt Obama...

At the last meeting of the 50 state governors they reported a total of over 100 billion in state deficits...but the real number is higher..Texas alone has a 27 billion state deficit...No matter who wins..the taxes are going up..

All the voters get to decide, is who will pay more, will it be fair...what the Democrats want..the rich to pay a fair tax, or what the GOP wants for the top 1% to get even more tax cuts...tax cuts that have not worked after ten years...

The GOP will not care if they thrown the middle class out into the streets....Reagan gave tax cuts to the rich, and then closed all the Federal Mental Hospitals and threw 500,000 mentally ill men and women out into the streets, with no food but trash, no place to sleep but the alleys...

For 30 years the rich have hidden their money overseas to avoid paying Federal Taxes...estimates of 40 to 100 billion is lost Federal Taxes from hidden oversea bank accounts. for each of those 30 years..that is a lot of lost Federal Taxes...

Obama has lists now of many of those accounts and is going after that money..the IRS is
issuing fines and collecting back taxes..That is why the rich fear Obama...and the GOP and the tea party are offering no fine and only 5% tax on that money...

Who is working for the top 1%, and who is working for a fair tax system and the American people...the difference could
not be easier to see then how the GOP and Democrats view unpaid Federal Taxes....
