Obama's Olympic well-wishes

(CNN) – President Barack Obama put politics aside on Saturday, using his weekly address to recognize the sportsmanship, success and sacrifice of the U.S. Olympic team.

Obama stayed stateside – holding official events and hitting the campaign trail – while his wife, Michelle, led the official U.S. delegation to the London games opening ceremony.

"I've got to admit I was a little jealous she got to go," he said. "But like many of you, I caught as many events as I could, jumping off the couch for a close race or a perfect vault."

The United States, with a total of 43 medals, led other countries in the medal count as of Friday evening.

In his address, Obama highlighted some of the most prominent American victories.

Remember when it was the Russians and Romanians that dominated women's gymnastics? Based on this and the past few olympics it seems to be the USA's turn now. I just hope Obama doesn't somehow try to take credit for it.

But, you agree that he should praise their hard work and commitment and congratulate their participation.

And this includes Rafalca, Romney's horse. All week the Liberals have been bashing this Olympic athlete. Just shows how quick they will abandon patriotism for political gain.

Obama couldn't attend the Olympics, because he had to close a public beach in New jersey, for two days, in order to attend another $35,000 a plate fund raiser ... with his one per center friends. What a hypocrite, and absentee President ... well, not completely absent, after all, he did vote 'present' 127 times, while in the Senate. I wonder if he actually attended classes at Harvard. I guess we'll never know, since he has already spent over a million dollars to keep his college records sealed.

If someone posting here can stop the president from doing anything he is much worse than anyone of us thought.
He works for us. If we do not like his policies we have all the right in the world to question what he is doing – even if you libs prefer to keep the blinders on.
The worst economy since the depression. Libs, don't pee in my ear and try to tell me it is raining. This country is in bad shape. It needs Romney to help put things back on the right track.
BTW libs, 400 million paid out as part of the food stamp program that was paid to people who are not eligible. And you libs support dems who want to raise taxes. Stupid.

"President Barack Obama put politics aside" That's laughable! EVERYTHING he does is political.

Having said that, he wanted to remind Gabby and the rest of the Olympians that "they didn't do that". They couldn't have done what they did without government. Technically they should share their winnings with the rest of us.

Although I love the Olympics and cheer our athletes on, I do sometimes miss the amateur days. Remember the miracle on ice in 1980? Too bad it'll never be that way again.

The miracle of the ParaOlympian from South Africa is an amazing giant step for those who are disabled by circumstances beyond their control. To take part in the world's arena, with so many watching and take your place among the greatest of greats, the shinning example of the best of the striving, amazing, human spirit – AWESOME!

IT WILL PROBABLY NOT HAPPEN AGAIN BECAUSE THE GENIE IS OUT OF THE BOTTLE. IN SOME WAYS IT DOES MAKE SENSE TO SEND YOUR VERY BEST TO REPRESENT YOUR COUNTRY, BUT IF THE DISPARITY IS SO GREAT IT BECOMES RATHER UNWATCHABLE. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THE GENIE IS OUT OF THE BOTTLE AND THE MAGIC IS SPREADING ALL OVER THE WORLD AND IT IS BECOMING MORE COMPETITIVE. THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN IS THAT CERTAIN EVENTS BECOME SO UNBALANCED IT WILL LOSE INTEREST AND BE TAKEN OFF.

Other countries always sent their pro's. That's why it was so great when the US beat USSR in hockey...

Why wasn't he AT the Olympics, supporting our teams, instead of campaigning and playing golf? Is jumping off the couch a new sport? Oh, sorry – his job description only says campaigning and playing golf – and taking pot-hots. Governing? He never built that skill – "He didn't build that!"

If he took credit for medals – how is that different than him taking credit for his building of businesses other people built? It is the same thing. If "the people who built the roads" built the successful businesses – the people who built the roads also built the roads that were used to get these people to practice
