POTUS buys a round of beers at Iowa State Fair

WHITE HOUSE (CNN) - President Obama made a somewhat unannounced stop at the Iowa State Fair on Monday evening, just hours after Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan gave a speech there.

The president gave no formal remarks but he did buy a round of beers as he greeted many fair-goers.

"Bud lights all around on me!" Obama declared to those gathered in the Mike's Tavern beer tent on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. He clarified that the offer was only good for those 21 years old and older.

To the chants of "Four more beers!", he looked into his wallet and then amended his offer and promised 10 beers for 10 people.

Greg Lear, the president-elect of the Iowa Pork Producers, gave the president two pork chops to eat with his beer. Obama ate the pork chops with his fingers since he didn't have a fork and knife, according to the travel pool producer who witnessed the scene.

While at the fair, he also reminisced about his stop at the fair in 2007 with daughters Malia and Sasha where he played arcade games and rode several rides.

"I still have pictures of me, Malia and Sasha on the bumper cars," the president said. Obama had previously joked that the Secret Service wouldn't let him do the bumper cars again this time.

Earlier in the day while making remarks at a campaign event in Council Bluffs, President Obama announced to the crowd, "I think I'm going to end at the State Fair.  Michelle has told me I cannot have a fried Twinkie.  But I will be checking out the butter cow and I understand this year there's a chocolate moose." Prior to those remarks, there was speculation of when his stop would take place.

The article states the Pres. took his daughters to the fair in 2007, taking pictures of them on the bumper cars.

Obama plays dirty and always needs an unfair advantage ... like when he demands that we allow illegals the right to vote ... or, when he tries to eliminate the need for an I.D. to vote ... or, when he tries to suppress the military vote. Obama is a BULLY and a COWARD. Inviting the supreme court to the State Of The Union speech, only to publicly insult them on national television ... when they couldn't talk back ... is only one of many examples of this. Also, whenever Obama has the upper hand ... like when he bragged and boasted about how he would have a BILLION dollar war chest ... only to cry like a baby when his opponent raised more money. Or, when instead of taking responsibility for his failures, he always resorts to blaming others ... This is the sign of a small man, with no character or integrity.

RYAN has the courage to tell the truth ... unlike Obama and the democrats, who lie, in a desperate attempt to buy votes. We are spending more than we have. Our entitlement programs are unsustainable, However, the obama stooges continue to misinform, blame, demonize, and lie.

Romney/Ryan would never do that at a state fair around a bunch of "NORMAL" people. That's why this election will be a disaster again for the GOP...

Obama spent over a million dollars to seal his college records ... Why? ... probably because Obama benefitted from public tax monies to fund his education. Obama has ALWAYS been on the public dole ... paid for by tax dollars ... except when he made money from his books, which we now know were a pack of lies ... tand, he public will continue to pay Obama an approx. $200,000 a year pension, for the rest of his life.

If there was a criminal issue of Romney not paying taxes, there would have been an indictment, criminal charges, and trial. Since there is none, either the Democrats are idiots for letting another criminal go or Romney is innocent. I'm giving the Democrats the benefit of the doubt, and Romney is innocent or would have been in jail by now.

        August 14, 2012 at 5:33 pm |
      • Charlotte

Romney's failure to pay taxes is probably perfectly legal, which is the only reason he hasn't been indicted. But just because it's legal does not mean it is moral, ethical or right. Americans deserve to see what a skinflint, selfish pig Mitt Romney is, so they know as much as possible about this loser who seems to think he is entitled to be considered for the Presidency. He isn't entitled to be considered to wipe our boots, much less have any kind of role with influence. The guy and his runningmate Ryan are dangerous and greedy and unscrupulous and unworthy. They're also weirdos who ascirbe to all kinds of fake phony mythological hocus pocus like Mormonism and Christianity.

Steveo, the IRS is not in the business of plastering your taxes everywhere to support a candidate. But, you can find information on LEGAL SUITS BROUGHT AGAINST SOMEONE BY THE IRS (which has happened to Mitt and he lost.) Just like you can find out that the IRS has a LEIN AGAINST SOMEONE or information that a person has FILED FOR BAKRUPTCY PROTECTION (like Trump).

@Howard Larry Moe CurlyJoe WELFARE QUEEN
FOX NEWS-reporting today with Headline – FACT CHECK Ryan Budget Plan Doesn't Actually Slash the Budget....( I quote the published article here)
Under Ryans TAX PLAN – Government Spending increases almost every year over the next decade.
        – Tax and other revenue rises YEAR AFTER YEAR.
        – The 10-year deficit is still $3 TRILLION DOLLARS
(they continue with the article by saying, their words here) The fact that Ryan's Spending Plan grow the Federal Budget over the long-term is one that could easily be lost in the political melee underway in the wake of his selection....
Instead of the $3.1 TRILLION LONG-TERM DEFICIT ADDITION – Obama's plan comes with a $6.7 TRILLION DEFICIT "REDUCTION" in the same amount of time.
The studies back up claims the REPUBLICAN TAX PLANS BENEFIT THE WEALTHY. Another study by the TAX POLICY CENTER says that ROMNEY'S tax plan would also include cuts that "PREDOMINATELY FAVOR " UPPER-INCOME TAX PAYERS.

So, even FOX can do the math.

The only ones with information on Romney's taxes are insiders, that includes many accountants that have worked for
Romney over the years, secretaries who have transcribed information for him and keep the files, business partners, and something like 23 years of returns to John McCain when he ran in 2008.
Mitt's own people said of his replacing of hard-drives of computers used his term as Gov of Mass. "Was to keep politcially sensitive material from those that would use it against him." What is in those that would damage him?
If Mitt has something to hide that is NOT VERY FLATTERING about how he invests and/or evades in legal or illegal practices and it is found out through sources who are whistleblowers then yes, they will try and get that information out to the voters that we deserve to hear about a man who wants to be our president. People don't care that Mitt is rich. People care how he has gotten richer. They care about him abusing the spirit of our tax laws. And, he shouldn't be surprised after spending the last 10 yrs running for some kind of office. He already has fudged on residency issues in Mass. and was challenge by the BOSTON GLOBE. It's already a known fact he has lied to the IRS about that and he had to amend/or redact the info. (This is when he ran for senate in that state and lost).

The truth is no matter who gets elected the Medicare issue has to be addressed. The question is can we be adults and do it now or down the road when the whole program is a failure for everyone. Finally, if voucher programs were so bad, why do families line up for vouchers to send their children to private schools? I would rather have that voucher to choose my doctors then be stuck with the ones who took Medicare. It’s important to have the conversation now and people discussing solutions because the current system is broke.

        August 14, 2012 at 5:49 pm |
      • Cynthia L.

        @4juices -
You can keep your OWN INSURANCE AND your OWN DOCTOR under Obama's plan. Your insurance now has to give 85% TOWARD YOUR CARE PREMIUM BENEFITS now that Obamacare HAS ALREADY BEGUN. However, because Repulicans squawked about still letting the insurance companies to still be able to raise your premiums helping their INSURANCE COMPANY BUDDIES, until Obama's Affortable Care Act takes full effect in 2014 which stops the practice of gouging insured Americans like they've continued to do for decades.
IN EFFECT NOW – all children are eligible to be covered under their parents insurance til age 26. - Insurance companies CANNOT DENY COVERAGE because of a pre-existing condition. They must provide NO CO-PAY from their customers for yearly screenings for women's mamograms and cervical cancer.
Since the Affordable Heathcare Act has been passed EXPERTS who idenify waste in the healthcare system that has been ripping Americans off by unfair practices and costs. THEY HAVE FOUND $716 BILLION DOLLARS of WASTE in programs done by providers of INSURANCE, DRUG COMPANIES and DOCTOR and HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS that have to do with over-billing, over-prescribed medicines, dual unnescessary screenings and plain old paper shuffling. And, have been able to standardize the claims system to benefit patients and healthcare providers in a more cohesive way so all are treated fairly. The only people fined for not having healthcare starting in 2014 ARE ONLY people that can afford to pay for it BUT don't. LOW_INCOME CITIZENS are helped into a pool-system of other low income citizens that is affordable to their income level because then they get a fairer group rate.
Hope this helps you understand some details.

  17. AMERICA BEAUTIFUL WITHOUT GOP/TP

We are so lucky to have a president who is envied by most of the world. He is charming, intelligent, great communicator, at ease with us middleclass most of us can related to–as long as you dont look only at his skin color and blinded by hatred.

hahahaha... the anti-obama gang show their racism... seriously...

attack him on unemployment, drone strikes, poverty, healthcare, deficit spending, ntional debt, etc... but to make racist comments about black people... you wonder why i consider republicans racists?

willard romney is a disaster. i nominate condi rice for pres and ron paul for vp...

you racists live in a sad sad world, defend gun rights for the wrong reasons and shoot up people different to you. if there is a republican who isnt racist they should stand up to the others and attack obama on his failures not because he has more melanine...

    August 14, 2012 at 3:50 pm |
    • Steveo

I stood up and STILL got get slapped down. I challenge POLICY and not skin color and do the very things you suggested! Not ALL GOP are racist! You realize racism is not llimited to political party, age, gender, religion, or SKIN COLOR, right? You do make a point just don't forget blanket statements do no one any good!

I was slamming you for the previous posts on today's other pages, jokes repeated by Howard which at first I did not catch but did.

        Cynthia,

No harm, no foul. My overall poit is what I said racism, is not limited by much of anything! I am serious about my country and her future. All this back and forth, not so much! I apologize if I offended you!

what do you know about racism you ignorant fool? You live in a country with less racism in the world...wouldn't know racism if it crawled up your butt.

      August 14, 2012 at 6:56 pm |
      • degazmatic

hahaha.... i dont know whether to take that as a compliment or a diss... the butt part is a diss obviously... yeah... isnt it a GOOD thing that my country doesnt discriminate? yh, we have all cultures here but you dont see people stereotyping or discriminating... oh i know racism. i've travelled extensively. been to cuba, taiwan, singapore, miama and conneticut. all the other countries are wary of foreignors and tend to stereotype from afar based on ignorance. once they get to know you they become friendly... but not in america... in conneticut me and my cousins were pulled over for no reason whatsoever. we were not smoking, drinking, speeding or playing loud music. why were we pulled over then? because to the officer it was criminal for for dark skinned young men to be driving around in a land rover not breaking any laws. go figure. can you tell me why we had to be interrogated and have our id's checked and rechecked for atleast fifteen minutes? yeah. i know not all americans are racist but a lot of them are. that is something no young man can live down... oh and cubans are very racist too so its not just americans. canadians are nice though Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2012 22:56:46 +0000 To: degazmatic@live.com

        degazmatic,

Most Americans are racist? You MET most Americans? You seem to not mention the country of your origin! I find that omission to be interesting. Yeah, we have our issues but why am I not reading about people trying to snealk OUT of America? I do read about folks trying to sneak IN? I wonder why?

        August 15, 2012 at 11:34 am |
      • degazmatic

hmmm... i probably phrased myself improperly... most americans i've met were racist... atleast until they met me... trust me... i'm somewhat of a pro when it comes to being discriminated against and then changing the person's mind... well atleast about me. i dont know if they still continue to be racist but their attitude towards me is very different. in my travels i've had to befriend the locals and have made girlfriends along the way. its not easy when you have to meet the parents of a girl who told them that black people are a curse... hahaha much less when their culture doesnt encourage mating outside the population. i've had mongolian, nicaraguan, cuban and taiwanese girlfriends. not to mention the indian, caribbean and african. and i once dated girls from horicon wisconsin and tuskeegee alabama. and couple flings and one night stands in conneticut and miami. oh yeah my country. its a veeeeeerrrry small twin island federation in the caribbean named st christopher and nevis. we have less than 50k people and a combined area of about 104 sq miles. He said ALOT OF THEM – NOT MOST OF THEM--which is true. If it isn't color, it's religion. or where you come from. Just read carefully next time and don't get yer knickers in a twist. I'm still P.O'd about your TRILLION comment, can you tell?

Let me see. You are P.O'd about my TRILLION remark (which was an honest mistake, abeit done 2 or 3 times) BUT you are not PO'd about the promise concerning transparency? Nor the promise to halve the deficit, nor the promise to be a first termer if the economy does not improve? I get that right? Bad info from me, who affects nothing nationally gets more of your attention and anger than broken Presidential promises (which affects everything nationally)? I'm not sure if I am more honored by you or more disappointed in you!

The President kinda looks like he is wasted in the picture. I guess he's an expert since he wasted all of our tax monies on the stimu not projects. Can anyone tell me if he was he drinking 8.3% less alcohol beer?

Romeny would have done the right thing and not spent the $50 on white trash. He doesn't need their vote, just the ones he has promised increased profits to.

For God's sake he's out stumping, every President does it! Look at the picture, a beer in one hand, a plate of food in the other, you're in America's heartland of good food, what's the problem?

Someone else said... "who would look more natural there Obama in his khakis, or Mit in is pulled up too high jeans"

Obama wins, remember Mit doesn't drink alcohol.. no beer – he is just not a regular guy.

So. We can't have a big soda because of sugar. What about all that sugar from alcohol and the carbohydrates? I bet your beer beats a 24 oz of soda?
