Clinton stars in new Obama ad

(CNN) – Former President Bill Clinton takes center stage in a new ad released by President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign on Thursday.

The former president, who’s been a top surrogate for Obama this year, largely praises Obama in the spot and attempts to draw a contrast between Republicans and Democrats this election year.

Romney's campaign is based on the notion that because of what he did at Bain he understands the economy. It's perfectly reasonable to examine what his experience at Bain really taught him. After all, Bain wasn't in the business of creating jobs, it was in the business of making money

The high unemployement is due to people like romney out sourcing that's why middle class Americans are suffering so much.

you are insane. Tell me just what exactly has obama done for anyone except himself in his entire life. He was a second rate law lecturer, a student who sealed all his academic records, part time community organizer, do nothing state legislator, and briefly a US senator who seldom even showed u,p for votes. And, his performance as president is a total failure...even his healthcare law is a disaster from the bottom up. Compare this with Mitt Romney's history...

He's just the typical Obama sheep. Don't expect rational discussion from people like that, all they know is what Obama says.

I don't understand. You guys keep talking about that community organizer thing where he was working with Catholic Charities. Then you talk about the Olympics, where Mitt's #1 bragging point was organizing some 40,000 volunteers.

You cite things like 'second rate law lecturer'...no offense, but how do you feel that is even a decent point?

If Obamacare is largely based on Romneycare and is a failure from the bottom up, then you're arguing against Mitt's signature move as governor.

Are you an Obama plant trying to make Romney look bad?

AFP headline today: DOCUMENTS RENEW PRESSURE ON ROMNEY FINANCES

        ABC NEWS reporting today:
The private equity firm founded by Republicans presidental candidate, Mitt Romney made use of arcane techniques in several of it's Cayman Island-based funds to AVOID U.S. TAXES, according to a TROVE of Bain Capital's private audit and finance records made public on the website GAWKER today.
The publication of the Bain documents on the GAWKER websitte could rekindle debate about Romney's role at the company and specifically about Bain's decision to domicile many of it's funds in offshore locations known as tax havens personally stating it was with the intent of avoiding taxes on documents themselves. UH-OH.

The only reason Clinton is endorsing Obama, is to provide a presidential doorway for Hillary ... even is it's at the cost of Obama using the race card against Clinton ... and, even if it's at the cost of what's best for the American people. HYPOCRISY is valuing a cheating womanizer, who publicly humiliating his wife, like Bill Clinton, while demonizing misstep, Todd Akin, for making a verbal misstep.

I'm not for abortions. I'm just American and not going to make someone else's body subject to your religious interpretation.

I'm a fiscal conservative. I have zero problems with birth control being in the insurance pool....kind of that whole thing that pregnancy, culminating with a baby 9 months later, is expensive.

Really, if you wanted to cut medical spending that brings back zero savings, drop Viagra and cholesterol pills. The former has zero medical justification, the latter does nothing to save us any money.

Drake, you might to look deeper into Bain other than from Democratic ads. In the later part of the 1990 Bain supported a single store business. Today that store is a supply chain that employs over 88,000 people in this country, Office Depot. Bain has supported a number of businesses that grow successful in this country.

Of course, the fact that we have the highest corporate tax rate in the world, more threats to increase taxes, threats to increase regulations and ACA will certainly provide incentive to build a business here. You would think the current President understood this about the economy.

    August 23, 2012 at 4:34 pm |
    • Cynthia L.

Caramon, this information is easily found out about your claim the U.S has the highest Corporate Tax Rates.

CENTER ON BUDGET and POLICY PRIORITIES report 2008 that –
U.S Corporate tax burden is SMALLER than average for developed countries.
Corporations in 19 of the MEMBER STATES of the ORGANIZATION for ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION and DEVELOPEMENT have PAID 16.1%OF THEIR PROFITS INTAXES WHILE CORPORATIONS IN THE U.S. PAID 13.4%.
The "FALSE" impression we pay high corporate taxes here doesn't take into account that our TAX CODE offers so many deductions, credits and other mechanisms by which corporations can reduce their taxes of what ANALYSTS refer to as their 'EFFECTIVE TAX RATE" that is not high compared to other developed countries.
Because the average U.S. Corporate tax burden is low, many economists believe in a 'revenue-neutral corporate tax reform that reduces statutory corporate tax rates, while broadening the tax base by eliminating COSTLY TAX BREAKS, and would improve economic efficentcy and likely benefit the U.S. economy.---–

Look it up, they explain how revenue-neutral corporate tax reform works, sounding like it is a win-win for everyone.

We do not have the highest effective corporate tax rates in the world. That is patently false.

You guys can't be both the party of business and the party that doesn't understand business words. Not one business person gives a flying f about nominal tax rates. It's all about effective rates.

We have among the lowest effective corporate taxes in the world.

That's going to be a tough argument to make. Clinton, somehow, maintains the highest approval rating of any living politician. I'm sure he polls lower if the question is about 'best husband ever' but that's not the question.

Having a popular, former president as a surrogate is powerful. You really think the RNC hasn't noticed that they don't have the same assets on their bench?

In general, I think you make the GOP seem even more out of touch when you treat Clinton's personal misgivings as equally scary to women as vaginal probes, banning contraception, or having beliefs that include adjectives around the word rap.

Bill Clinton helped sink his wife's chances for an endorsement from Ted Kennedy by belittling Barack Obama as nothing but a race-based candidate.

"A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee," the former president told the liberal lion from Massachusetts, according to the gossipy new campaign book, "Game Change."

The book says Kennedy was deeply offended and recounted the conversation to friends with fury.

After Kennedy sided with Obama, Clinton reportedly griped, "the only reason you are endorsing him is because he's black. Let's just be clear."

I knew practically nothing about Bill Clinton when he ran for president. My assesment slowly congeled as I saw and read and heard about him. I came to the conclusiion that he doesn't know which end is up. You don't have to know anything to get elected president. I put Obama in the same catagory. He really doesn't understand what is needed to ba a good president. We may do no better with Romney but we can do no worse. Romney has been identified as someone that does understand the needs of the country. I have hears there is a group that asses elections. They have not misses in over 20 plus years. They picked Romney to be elected. If so the country may start to recover.

Boehner can't get a "jobs bill" passed without having some rider defunding Planned Parenthood added to it. No Speaker wants to go his entire term without even getting stuff to the Senate floor. This current GOP lacks the pragmatism that Reagan had that the 1990's GOP also used to actually get stuff done.

Say rolls were reversed...say Clinton was disliked and had a failed 8 years, but W was well-liked and sat over good times for the country....do you realize how huge of an advantage that would be for Mitt?

Or look at it a different way. Name the speakers for the GOP that are there to help win independent votes and swing states. The whole campaign is trying to get every additional right winger out. That's great, but there are no extra points for winning Alabama by even more.
