POTUS's schedule for Thursday, September 13: Colorado campaign

President Obama wakes up in Colorado this morning to continue his two-day campaign swing. Yesterday, he traveled to Las Vegas and his speech was a bit toned down from political rhetoric due to the situation in Libya. He stopped to remember the victims of the killings at the Benghazi consulate and began his remarks repeating his words from earlier on Wednesday about bringing the perpetrators to justice. Today, he has one political rally in Golden, Colorado and we will see if that toned-down speech is given again today. He'll return to DC this evening.

Just days ago the Washington Post, CNN and other reported that Obama skipped a significant number of security meetings. Now we see the outcome, 4 dead, our Embassy burned, more unrest. Obama has failed the Nation he has failed the world.

What is Obama's response? Maybe blame President Bush? No, this time it's blame Gov. Romney. That's right. Blame the other guy for your personal failure. It's the Obama way.

On Obama’s watch, the Islamists have done very well. They have taken over Egypt and are set to take over Syria and its chemical weapons arsenal without a change in US policy. They look ahead to the day U.S. forces leave Afghanistan—which Obama has conveniently announced to them. And in the country where modern Islamism first came to life at the nation-state level, Iran, the government is set to gain a nuclear weapons capability—another Obama legacy.

Please Jay. Radicals abroad and home will do anything to get there way. Obama has done a great job on Foreign policy. Mitt and Ryan does not have any and would bankrupt our nation with more wars.

What was very disgraceful is Romney trying to score political points when Americans needed to come together.

Look at how past presidents and presidental candidates came together during previous crisis.

Great job !!! Almost funny if it wasnt so pathedic,
        Embassy blown up
Still has over 75,000 troops in war zone (but he said war was over)
        turned his back on Israel
Went on world apology tour (gee that worked out well)
ask Hilly how many countries have told her not to come back
Yeah all in all more proof of poor leadership

Lionel, I agree that radicals will do anything. Of course the question is whether the attack was planned well in advance of 911 or simply a sudden response. At the moment, I am willing to give benefit of the doubt to President Obama. You will also not that I commented yesterday that his initial statement was relatively strong despite the claims that he apologized. If I recall, George Bush's well received speech did not come until almost a week after 911. Everyone stopped to listen.

What is important is what our President does from this point on. The protests seem to be growing and the first issue is safety of American lives. I will wait to see what happens and will not criticize him just for the sake of criticizing.

However, the statement that Presidents and Presidential candidates have always come together is not necessarily true. If you look at Senator Obama and Candidate Obama, you will find he did much of the same. The war in Iraq was becoming increasingly unpopular and he certainly did have criticisms of George Bush before the election. There may be some truth that Romney has no foreign policy experience. Then why would anyone vote for then Candidate Obama who also had no foreign policy experience and barely any Senate experience? Apparently some voters believe it is possible to learn foreign policy after being elected.

In truth, I think any Presidential Candidate including the current President will use a crisis in order to gain votes. This does not concern me. What does concern me is where we move in response to the attacks on our embassies.

CARAMON, I THINK THE CLEAR DIFFERENCE IS THAT THE IRAQ WAR WAS GOING ON FOR YEARS. IT HAS BECOME POLICY, AND NOT SOME CRISIS THAT IS STILL DEVELOPING. IMAGINE IF ANYBODY CRITICIZED BUSH FOR 9/11 SO BLATANTLY DURING THE EARLY MOMENTS, WE WILL PROBABLY NEVER HEAR FROM THAT PERSON AGAIN! NOBODY I KNOW IN RECENT MEMORY, HAS POLITICIZED SUCH AN EVENT TO SUCH AN EXTENT AND HAS EMBARRASSED HIMSELF AS A CONSEQUENCE AS ROMNEY HAS. HE IS A DISGRACE AND FRANKLY I DO NOT KNOW HOW ANYONE CAN TAKE HIM SERIOUSLY ON ANY FOREIGN POLICY MATTER AFTER THIS. IF YOU THINK HE SCORED POLITICAL POINTS FOR YOU THEN FINE. I DOUBT MOST AMERICANS WILL SEE IT THAT WAY.

Caramon, President Bush did not wait a week to talk to the nation. He made a TV address that night.

        September 13, 2012 at 11:41 am |
      • Caramon

Unfortunately, I would have to agree that Mitt Romney did not score well with the populace with his comments. And it would be difficult to know how Candidate Obama would have responded to a more immediate crisis. Iraq had already been going on for many years. Candidate Kerry made the same mistake with his criticisms of Bush concerning Iraq in 2004, still a relatively young war.

But, I will note that Ronald Reagan did not criticize Jimmy Carter about the Iranian crisis. He was more supportive even after the failed rescue attempt.

CARAMON, I AGREE WITH YOU THAT MITT ROMNEY IS NO RONALD REAGAN.

LOOKING AT THESE PROTESTS NOW, I WONDER IF ANY OF IT IS ABOUT THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH MITT ROMNEY HAS TRUMPED OVER THE EFFORTS OF THE DIPLOMATS ON THE GROUND FOR DIPLOMACY. II DON'T THINK IT IS ABOUT A STUPID MOVIE. DON'T THINK THIS IS EVEN ABOUT US, AND OUR EMBASSIES JUST BECAME EASY SCAPEGOATS. THE ATTACK IN LIBYA IS DEFINITELY A TERRORIST ATTACK BUT THESE OTHER DISTURBANCES ARE MORE SYMPTOMATIC OF FLEDGLING DEMOCRACIES ACTING OUT AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO THEY ARE. I THINK IT WOULD BE A MISTAKE TO ABANDON THEM NOW AS MANY HAVE SUGGESTED. IT WILL BE A HUGE DISCREDIT TO THE TREMENDOUS WORK OF OUR FALLEN DIPLOMATS IF WE PULL OUT NOW. EGYPT IS STILL RECOVERING FROM YEARS OF DICTATORSHIP WHICH WE SUPPORTED, SO THERE IS UNDERSTANDABLE DISTRUST AND ANIMOSITY. IF WE STAY PATIENT AND LET DEMOCRACY FLOURISH WHILE COMBATING THE TERRORIST ELEMENTS WITH THE HELP OF THEIR GOVERNMENTS, THERE WILL BE A TREMENDOUS BOON OF A LASTING PEACE IN THE REGION WHICH HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. IF WE CAN ONLY BE PATIENT.

I DO NOT ENVY PRESIDENT OBAMA ONE BIT AS WE ARE LIVING IN VERY INTERESTING TIMES. I THINK WE NEED HIM BACK IF THE ALTERNATIVE IS ROMNEY WITH HIS EXTREMIST POSTURING. IF COOLER HEADS PREVAIL DURING THE COMING DAYS AND MONTHS, AND THESE PROTESTS WILL BE A DISTANT MEMORY, THEN WE KNOW WHO THE CLEAR CHOICE IS FOR COMMANDER IN CHIEF. WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE, AS YOU HAVE SAID CARAMON.

While all the liberal media have focused on Romeny the Horrible instead of the terrible tragedy first and foremost. (obvious deflect from Obamas failed leadership) First you should be asking how did this attack happen? What intelligence did Obama have and when did he have it? Why wasnt there more security on site on 9/11! Not 2 days ago before this the Washington Post posted an article that out of 1225 daily presidential briefings Obama has only showed up to 500 or so. Maybe had he showed up he would be better prepared for this attack. Why is Obama the campaigner in chief spending time doing 60 min interviews and campaiging while 3 now 4 of our embassies are under attack to some degree and white powder shows up at our embassy in Germany! Why isnt he being the flipping commander in Chief and taking care of the business of the country not his own reelection. Hes a complete totally disgracefull faillure on every single level. Obamas lack of leadership and complete and utter lack of foreign policy other than appeasment has led to this disaster and the outcome is on his watch and his responsiblity.

IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN SOME NEWS COMING UP OF HOW BUSH IGNORED INTELLIGENCE OF A POSSIBLE ATTACK PRIOR TO 9/11. ONLY WE ARE HEARING ABOUT IT JUST NOW, 11 YEARS LATER, IN THE MAINSTREAM. WHETHER IT IS TRUE OR NOT IS UP FOR DEBATE.

SO NOW, JUST BECAUSE IT IS OBAMA, WE ARE GOING TO CRITICIZE THE PRESIDENT WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS CRISIS OR WORSE, A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE WOULD MOUTH OFF IN THE EARLY MOMENTS. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH DISRESPECT AND HOSTILITY TOWARDS AN ADMINISTRATION WHEN WE AS A COUNTRY ARE BEING ATTACKED BY OUTSIDE FORCES. AS A PROUD AMERICAN, YOU SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED BY YOUR WORDS.

Now you are giving credit to Obama simply because 4 people were arrested? Wow you people really do worship him.

Obama said that he wanted the Muslim world to "feel good about their historic contribution to science, math and engineering." Well, they proved that they can make fire. Wonder what they will use advanced mathematics for next week. Maybe a machine to force a woman to wear a Berka. No a stick works just fine for that.

  6. Risky

There sure are alot of expert economist here on the comment section. But for those of you that are unfamiliar with how the economy works; lets take a look into Economics 101 shall we?

Overly simplified version of the US economy:
Think of it as a circular flow of a limited amount of money. Basically it's the constant exchange between consumers and suppliers. People need goods and services, so they buy the things they need(consumers). Companies/businesses/entreprenuers supply those goods and services(suppliers). Suppliers put that revenue into banks, while at the same time give the option to the Consumer to get back that money through labor. For the labor they've provided, the Consumer is then given this little thing called a paycheck, which they can use to get money from the bank and then use that money again for goods and services.

tl;dr Circulation of money= Consumer–>Supplier–>Banks–>Consumer (very very simplified) Keep in mind that there are alot of influencal factors left out in this simplified version: outside influence, gov't, competi tion, etc.

Heres where it gets a little shakey. As companies profit, they put that profit away into savings. The millions that they save = millions they just took out of the circular flow. As money is slowly being taken out, the circular flow starts to get thinner. When that happens, the value of the all-mighty dollar increases; followed by prices going up to compensate for this value increase. In the end we get this: high prices, little spending power. Obviously thats not a very good thing for the majority of the country. Spending power is constantly being slipped away into the bank accounts of Millionairs and higher. Unfortunately, little can be done about this slow economic demise. Rich individuals are protected by law and capitalism. But dont get me wrong, being rich is not a bad thing, as long as they plan to spend that money to put it back into the circular flow.

Before raging and flaming at me, you should know that Im no economist expert, and that I've only learned this in Highschool ahaha...

the value of the all-mighty dollar increases; followed by prices going up to compensate for this value increase. Sorry Risky, I do not believe this is true. A cause of increasing prices is inflation when the value of the dollar goes down. When the value of the dollar increases, it has more purchasing power and can purchase more goods and services, not less. You also should remember that the government has been printing more money to put into the economy whcih could eventually lead to more inflation.

Missing 1 point =manufactoring, its what the whole economy is based on it hencefore, when things got bad war was statrted to generate cash flow, (i think that stinks but history proves it) in the nineties Clinton with (not 100% sure which party) both houses (repub run both i think) in all thier wisdom started the nafta act (north america free trade act) went well for appox 90 freaking days (this can be fact checked) at this time Japan not China, came in and bought up america by doing so values of the dollar dropped. The dollar dropped, then The Japan monies (yen) droped and inflation killed them. China took over at that point, This is only relavent due to this. ITS not about where u been, its about wher u r going. Until we start manufactoring again were dead. And that is why i dont like Oblunder, he is too much in global and not america. Plus he is very Inept. not leading always playing catch up. Not a mitty fan but i think business at this point needs to be top priorty JOBS< JOBS JOBS, I just dont see Oblameo (on bush) getting it done

YOU ASK AS IF YOU HE WANTED IT. IT IS AN UNBELIEVABLE BURDEN THAT THE WORLD HAS PLACED ON HIM. WHO WOULD WANT IT?

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT PEACE. IT IS NOT EASY, IT IS OFTEN PAID FOR TRAGICALLY WITH INNOCENT BLOOD, AND WORST OF ALL IT DOES NOT ALWAYS LAST. THE MOST LASTING PEACE IS ONE NOT BUILT ON RESENTMENT, IT IS ONE BUILT WITH COOPERATION AND MUTUAL RESPECT. WHEN IT COMES IN THE MIDDLE EAST, THERE IS A SEVERE SHORTAGE OF ALL THESE FROM ALL SIDES. THE WORK DONE BY YOUR FALLEN DIPLOMATS IN LIBYA AND THE PRICE THEY PAID IS THE BEGINNINGS OF THIS LASTING PEACE. THE PEOPLE OF LIBYA KNOW THIS, AND OUR PRESIDENT KNOWS IT. SO WHEN I HEAR TALKS OF PULLING OUT, BOMBING BACK, CUTTING OFF FUNDING, I CANNOT HELP BUT THINK OF HOW THEIR SACRIFICE WOULD HAVE BEEN FOR NOTHING IF WE EXERCISE SUCH COWARDICE NOW.

THAT IS THE PRICE OF PEACE, MY FRIEND. IF WE STOP NOW, WE WILL SEE A NEW IRAN IN EGYPT. IF WE GIVE UP NOW, AL QAEDA WILL OWN LIBYA. WORST OF ALL, IF WE GIVE IN TO THE RHETORIC OF US AGAINST THEM THEN WE WILL BE FOREVER BE INVOLVED IN WAR. WE ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH OF THAT WITHIN OUR SHORES AMONG OUR POLITICIANS. IT IS TIME TO REACH OUT TO THE MODERATES AND DROWN OUT THE EXTREMISTS. THEY NEED OUR HELP TO BRING PEACE TO THE REGION. I THINK OBAMA WOULD GLADLY GIVE UP THE NOBEL IF IT MEANS GETTING JUST ONE STEP CLOSER TO THIS GOAL.

I guess Obamas schedule proves all of the pro obama polls incorrect that he has such an overwhelming majority & will will the november election. If they were correct he'd be spending more time being a leader than a campaigner. Wonderfuls strategy, vegas, colorado, home, rest, golf, vegas, colorado, home rest golf. Seems like ground hog day for the last 3 months. If there was ever a time for a president to stand up and act like a leader its now, but no – its fly off into the wild blue yonder for beer, golf & campaigning. Forget that everything is fine at home & the middle east.

Just cut off aid to these mid-east countries and watch them come crawling back. We're $16Trillion in debt so why do we give people who hate us money we don't have? Obama's approach obviously didn't work.

SO YOU ARE SAYING THOSE DIPLOMATS DIED FOR NOTHING? YOU WOULD RATHER GIVE IN TO EXTREMISTS, IS THAT IT?

YOU CAN HATE OBAMA ALL YOU WANT, BUT TO HAVE SUCH A NARROW VIEW BECAUSE YOU THINK IT WILL BRING DOWN OBAMA IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE 'SHOOT FIRST AND AIM LATER' MENTALITY THAT REPUBLITARDS HAVE BEEN GUILTY OF.

I might have to agree on you with cutting off aid. Obama's policies of not starting another stupid war did work.

We did not have to send troops overseas. Just imagine how much this would have cost us.

Thanks Bush/Cheney for bankrupting our country.

War for the sake of supporting military contractors is not a way to run a country. Using diplomacy where it works and drones when it cannot do the job makes better sense. As a nation, we cannot afford expending over $48,000 per second for interest on the national debt (current cost) and untold amounts in future costs to put boots on the ground at every whip-stitch...without trying other methods first.

Knee-jerk reactions are not cool, and serve no constructive purpose..
The GOP candidates have shown they do not understand diplomacy, or have a calm demeanor.
If history should teach us anything it is that we've had enough of wasteful boastful swagger.

There's a new report now that Obama knew of possible attacks yet did nothing, I bet CNN will get right on this.

A totally incompetent president who is protected more and more by a wall of media misinformation and bias. POTUS should go to Washington and do some work for a change! I know he's a very good campaigner. Now, he needs to show he can do something else....

Sit down and watch ABC and you will be amazed how biased they are. Their chief political correspondent is a guy from the Clinton years. This morning, George had on 4 Dems. CBS and the Communist News Network does the same. I just kind of ignore NBC. They don't count as news.

The Communist News Network is CNN
