Big Bird the focus in sarcastic new Obama ad

(CNN) – The unlikely star of last week’s presidential debate is now starring in a political ad from President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign.

The spot, released Tuesday, sarcastically casts Big Bird as a corporate fiend akin to Bernie Madoff and Kenneth Lay. The campaign said it would air on national broadcast and cable.

Ryan/Romney 2012-- Because one Republican Economic Crash and two wars per decade is no where near enough!

Thats good, but neither voted for anything you are referring to. You know who did? Obama...

Why am I not surprised that Obama want to keep Big Bird on welfare? Libs, I understand taking care of the needy. So let's take the 5 million we give to Big Bird and his friends and give it to someone who needs it. The fact that we need to borrow this 5 million from China makes it even worse. And you libs want more and more taxes to spend it on things like this?

john, bs, you need not look any further than ol' Lyin Ryans voting record. What do you say to that John

Mary, you are correct. Ryan voted for the Iraq Resolution in 2002 and the surge in 2007. Romney obviously did not. Obama has voted IN FAVOR of all war funding bills since 2005. SO Mary is Obama just as responsible as Ryan for the war spending?
Now tell us about the economic you are blameing on ROmney? SO Romney is more responsible for the mess we are in than Obama, who was in congress when Bush was in office and has been IN CHARGE FOR $ YEARS??

Once again you show us what a conservative m o r o n i s....Obama DID NOT VOTE TO INVADE IRAQ.

Abraham Lincoln said: 'You can fool some of the people some of the time ... and, you can fool all the people some of the time ... but, you can't fool all of the people all of the time'.
Americans have woken up, and are tired of being fooled by Obama ... in the past 4 years, he has nearly destroyed America. NOW, it's time for Barack and Michelle to abdicate their throne, so Mitt Romney can begin repairing the excessive damage caused by Obama's terrible policies. Good bye Barack, Michelle, Nancy, Harry, Jarret, and Axelrod, and all the unelected czars ... and, GOOD RIDDANCE TO YOU ALL ... I'm sure you all will find another way to pick the pockets of hard working Americans !!!

Robme is wrong about so many things it is hard to keep up....
First where is his tax returns did he take the 2009 amnesty for those hiding assets in untaxed Swiss bank accounts?
For starters what kind of Twisted Twit likes to fire people? What kind of heartless screwball hires Chinese slave labor? What type of morally bankrupt person has employees build a stage so he can fire them, and close the plant they work in? Who with a heart and an ounce of brains chains the family pet to the roof of a vehicle to take on vacation? Why would a reasonable person who has a draft deferment be so lacking in compassion that he protests FOR others to go die in a war he won't fight? Who bullies a class mate and cuts his hair? Does he really think it right that Beallsville, Ohio miners had to “mandatorily” attend one of his campaign speeches without pay, or lose their jobs?

Now, he not only wants to fire Big Bird, but also cut great programming like Masterpiece Theater. And wants his war profiteers to keep on pumping out those tanks the military doesn’t want any more of.

You forget President Obama voted against the funding for the Iraq war...he voted against the resolution to go war. so No! he didn't vote for both.

        March 22, 2007

Senator Barack Obama defended his votes on behalf of funding the Iraq war, asserting that he has always made clear that he supports funding for US troops despite his consistent opposition to the war.

"I have been very clear even as a candidate that, once we were in, that we were going to have some responsibility to make it work as best we could, and more importantly that our troops had the best resources they needed to get home safely," Obama, an Illinois Democrat, told reporters in a conference call.

Jean, what has Romney robbed you of? Obama keeps taking from working Americans – so I would understand if you used that term for him. But Romney gives more to charity than any Dem you can name.

        October 10, 2012 at 8:19 am |
      • Caramon

Jay is correct. The president did vote in favor of funding in Iraq. Although he originally was against the war, he felt it necessary to supply the soldiers once they were there. So, Jean were you for or against the funding? Based on your response, it sounds like you were against it.

Public TV does not need government funding and therefore Big Bird and Masterpiece would do just fine.

Who bullies a classmate and pushes her to the ground?

        October 10, 2012 at 9:18 am |
      • Caramon

I should also point out that the president could not vote for or against the Iraq invasion. He was not yet a Senator.

      • Blarg

Haha John, that's pretty hilarious. Bill Gates & Warren Buffet. There, that was really easy. They give more money to charity and grants in a year than Romney has to his name. Good try though.

Please explain how the Republicans crashed the economy. Despite the tax cuts and wars, federal revenues continued to increase to its highest level by 2007 and 2008. Are there some specific policies that you are referring to other than the war in Iraq?

      October 9, 2012 at 12:22 pm |
      • MaryM

again, you need to look no further than Lyin Ryans voting record.

        October 9, 2012 at 12:41 pm |
      • Caramon

In other words, you don't know. The question was HOW the republican policies crashed the economy. Not what policies Congress passed.

        October 9, 2012 at 12:50 pm |
      • MaryM

Caramon, Yes, I know , but do you? What I do know is that you think you have the correct answer. But it is just YOUR perspective. sooooooo you know what you can do with your perspective

        October 9, 2012 at 1:06 pm |
      • Caramon

So, mine is perspective and your is fact. Is this the point you are trying to make? And, I think if you read any of my previous posts, you will find I have always been civil even when I disagree. I am asking you to enlighten me. How did the Bush policies trash the economy? Even today, most economists have a difficult time finding a single reason, or person responsible for the cause. Have you ever heard of the housing bubble?

        October 9, 2012 at 1:36 pm |

The Republicans crashed the Economy because when Bush was in office he over spent on the war with money the government did not have as well as having to spend money on pre-existing programs. This is what caused the extremely high deficit and he did not balance it with a tax increase on both the middle and higher classes. If he had increased both classes evenly, obviously a higher increase for the highest income and a lower increase for the lowest income, he wouldn't have raised the deficit so much because that extra revenue from the tax increase could have helped supply the war, or even be spent on other projects. His 2001-2003 tax reform gave a heavier tax burden on the middle class than they could handle and did not statistically effect the wealthy. The stress of supplying both the war and existing programs raised the defict and eventually lead to economic down turn because a large deficit effects our whole economy. The large tax increase on the middle class also reduced their disposable income at the time, which made them buy less products. As demand begins to decrease business owners started to cut their supply and their production in order to save their businesses. A cut in production obviously leads to a cut in employment and now we have our high unemployment rate. With unemployment and less people working, they are no longer making money, they spend less..it keeps going. If you look at the details that Romney FINALLY released about his tax plan you'll notice that his 'tax cut' is not a tax cut at all.

His math just does not work out and in the end this plan would not lower the deficit, only even it out. but if the middle class is taxed, we will end up in that vicious cycle i mentioned earlier. there are sections of his plan that are good, but there are also parts of Obama's that are good as well, and there are also some bad parts. But since politics is more about winning than actually finding the best possible solution......we're all screwed

Gee Caramon tax breaks geared toward those who don't need them, and two unfunded wars and an unfunded drug benefit...is more than enough to tank any country's economy. If I remember the current President voted against the resolution for the Iraq War. And in 2001 and 2003 when the first and second tax cut legislation was passed, and in early 2006 when Part D Medicare was passed both the House and Senate had a Republican majority.

But the real problem was unethical practices and lapse of character by a large number of corporate executives who had been given free reign by deregulation.

I am again held up by the moderator....but that's normal.

        October 10, 2012 at 12:38 am |
      • Caramon

Despite the tax cuts, government revenue still increased to its highest levels in 2007 as stated by the office on tax policy. Annual deficits were around 305 billion. However, tax revenues increased dramatically in the past three years with an annual deficit of 1,300 billion. I realize that many believe the tax cuts and wars caused the economic crisis. However, no one has yet to explain how they caused the economic collapse. And we shouldn't forget the role of the housing bubble.

Truth is that no economist can pinpoint a single cause for the economic collapse because there isn't any. There were a number of factors that contributed including the economic problems in Europe as stated by the current president.

President Obama did not vote against the Iraq Resolution. He was not yet in the Senate at the time.

Finally, as correctly claimed by President Obama just recently, Bush added more corporate regulations that he did. Please give me examples of the deregulation you are referring to. I am willing to listen even to those who disagree with me.

Lord jean listen to yourself... Obama/Biden have even admitted that there are fewer middle class families since they took office and the outlook is bleak.... yep right here on CNN.... if they are so much in favor of the middle class then why are their policies so detremental to the middle class??? The affordable health care act have companies reducing staff to part time status ... effectively dumping those people into the exchanges... if you are part time you can't affiord healthcare and the the IRS will slap you with a ... is that a fine or a tax ... oh yeah Justice Roberts settled that ... it is a tax, This administration is full of unintended consequences... or are they unintended???

      WHO IS BROOKFIELD PROPERTIES?

REMEMBER THIS WHEN NOVEMBER GETS HERE.

      VOTE 'EM OUT!
We Need to Keep Our Eyes Open, folks... Obama has more slimy tricks than you can shake a stick at!
      -----------------–
      WHO IS BROOKFIELD PROPERTIES?
[You can't make this stuff up.]
Read the NY Times Oct 13, 2011
      to verify ownership etc.

I didn't really understand all this Occupy Wall Street protesting but it is getting clearer now...

Do you remember the park in NYC that the Wall Street protesters are occupying?
      It's Zuccotti Park.

Did you know this park is not owned by the city of New York?
It is owned by Brookfield Properties.
Brookfield Asset Management received an Obama Department of Energy Loan guarantee of over $160 million within 10 days of approving the take over of the Park.

Brookfield is a Canadian company with assets of 70 billion. Google it! [$70,000,000,000]

It is all on their website.
And, Why is the US Taxpayer guaranteeing a loan to a VERY wealthy Canadian company?!?!

Who was just hired by Brookfield Properties as an attorney?

      Vice President Joe Biden's son.

And Who sits on the board of Brookfield Properties?
      Mayor Bloomberg's live in girlfriend.

Now, guess what company just received some of the last of the Obama Stimulus $$$$$$$?
      Thaaaaaaaaaaaat's right... Brookfield Properties.

      Isn't life great in America!
      Now, guess what?
On a completely unrelated note, Wisconsin is shaping up to be the swing state in the 2012 presidential elections. It is not Florida, and not Ohio – but Wisconsin.
Now, guess who owns the company that will be tabulating the electronic votes in Wisconsin?

Thaaaaaaaaaaaat's right, the biggest contributor to Obama, the puppeteer George Soros. Whaaaaaaaaaaaat a coincidence.

Remember what "Joe Stalin" said. "It's not the people who vote that count. It's the people who count the votes."
      (Josef Stalin)

Mary, your son is in the minority. Numbers out this morning show the military 60% against Obama and 20% for Obama. That could be the reson our military is having a problem getting ballots sent to them.

Mary, what does your son have to say about the attacks on us on 9-11. Does he think Obama's reports of the incident are true? Does it sound strange to him that our embasy was attacked and NOT ONE OF THE ATTACKERS WERE KILLED BY THE MARINES PROTECTING THE EMBASY? I know you blind followers and the lame stream media prefers to ignore anything that may put Obama in a bad light but AMERICANS DIED AND OBAMA LIED. This should be obvious even to you blind following libs. I know the priority for Obama is Big Bird right now, but maybe someone should ask what really happened on 9-11.

John, do you have children in the military? Ask them if they want ot go to war. Because if Mitt is elected I guarantee that will happen.

      • Caramon

Mary, my appreciation to your son for his service. Is he or has he served in either of the two wars? As always we should be very supportive of the military.

No, no one wants to go to war. However people who join the military know well that it is always possible. I guess my general confusion is why some people believe that Mitt Romney will put us into another war. Even President Obama has stated military force is on the table for Iran. This was backed by Secretary Clinton. But for some reason, some believe Romney will go to war. War with whom?

        October 10, 2012 at 10:17 am |
      • John

Mary, aren't we at war? Didn't Obama just get us into another conflict in Africa without a vote from congress? My brother in-law is in a leadership position in the military – so I do have loved ones who are impacted. He doesn't say much, but my feeling is he won't be voting for BO. But, I don't really know.

The Republicans left our economy in a mess and started two wars plus they gave away trillions in tax dollars to the super wealthy. Now they blame Obama for not cleaning it up fast enough.

People, do not give the keys to the white house to the Republicans again. Not now...

History lessson for you Lionel because it appears you have forgotten. CONGRESS voted to fight and fund those two wars. That would have included DEMOCRATS! Secondly, for the last 2 years of Bush's presidency DEMOCRATS headed up the Congress (BOTH houses). You remember? ( they would be the folks folks who own the checkbook). You see, there is more that enough blame to go around but for some reason, you cannot bear to blame the DEMOCRATS for ANYTHING! Why would that be?

According to the Tax Policy Center, the government revenue reached a peak in 2007 and 2008. This would mean that government revenue continued to increase through the tax cuts. Annual deficits averaged 305 billion each year from 2002 through 2008. I threw out 2001 because it showed a 128 surplus and would have decreased average deficits.

However, annual receipts has gone higher during 2009 through 2011. Even with the increase revenue, the government has averaged annual deficits of 1,335 billion each year. Projections for 2012 show pretty much the same. Posted with the Tax Policy Center and White House websites.

Because of the LIES that Bush and Cheney about WMDs What a short memory you have

        October 9, 2012 at 11:44 am |
      • Caramon

Mary, since CNN has decided to moderate my previous response, I will summarize. The fact that George Bush lied about WMD is not conclusive. There are a number of articles that explain that Congress and the UN had received the same intel from the National Intelligence. Both voted in favor of the Iraq resolution including China and Russia. There is also some evidence that may show the WMD were being transported to Syria at the time.

Now I am certain you could find a number of references that will say the exact opposite. But the truth is that it is not conclusive either way. Even Bill Clinton believed the WMD were there during his time as president. So, believe what you want. Doesn't necessarily make it true.

        October 9, 2012 at 12:13 pm |
      • MaryM

It is VERY conclusive since THEY DID NOT FIND ANY WMDS.

        October 9, 2012 at 12:53 pm |
      • Caramon

The only thing conclusive is that WMD were not found. Whether Bush lied or there was faulty intel has not yet been determined.

      • JuJuBee

While I can appreciate all of the viewpoints that were posted in response to your comments – the point is, we will never move ahead if we keep pointing our fingers at the past. I think it's safe to say that some policies worked and some didn't – for both Administrations. I think it's also safe to say that Congress (which consists of both Democrats and Republicans) were also on hand and played a role in the policies that were set as well.

It's time that we stop the blame game and start coming up with ideas and solutions that are going to get us moving in the direction that we want to go. In order to do this – we need a President that is strong in mind and resolve. We need a President that can bring people together, whether it is Congress or the American public. We need a President that has a good understanding of how the economy works. We need a President to lead this country by standing right in front – unapologetic and unwavering.

When Obama was elected – I think people saw him in that fashion. Everyone was excited because they were a part of a change, a revolution if you will. But after four years of seeing our country going down a path of mediocrity – no one wants that. After four years of seeing more racial divide and more social divide – this is not what the American people voted for. We didn't vote for the excuses. We didn't vote for the blame-game. As a country, we will not be able to withstand another four years of this.

Come election day – vote like your life depends on it. Vote like your children's future depends on it.

Yet for some reason, the government cannot figure this out. Big Bird will be fine, PBS can go commercial just the ABC, NBC, CBS! Either that or we keep overloading the credit card!. Can't have this both way!

It is not surprising Romney is surging, more and more people are realizing that Obama has done NOTHING for this country, except saddle us with higher debt, out of control medical expenses, tax increases, record high unemployment. So what does Obama do he lies, call people names, takes out false ads. accuses Romney of everything he can think of. Even thou many groups and even some Democrats are sick of his constant lies. Obama is so patheic he is using Big Bird in an attack add. I loath this patheic loser Obama. The people of this country have said enough, go home Obama no one wants you around anymore.

And this is all the Obama Campaign has... SAVE BIG BIRD!!! You know, if Big Bird was thrown out of the nest of dependence on Big Government... I'm sure he would do better than he is doing now..

In another light: Maybe Big Bird is a reflect of just what Government can do to you if you stay on the 'TEET" to long... He has grown imposingly huge... So big he cannot "fly" like other birds.. He no longer speaks the language of other birds and he will never ever grow up... I have never heard him count past 10 without the help of The Count...

So please... Let Big Bird go.. Some times being kicked out of the nest is the best thing to ever happen to a person.. or in this case a bird.. It seems cruel on the onset, but later, even the bird says thanks...

NPR basically costs $1.35 a year per person.
When I lived and worked in a mountain town in Colorado, we all pretty much listened to NPR, EVEN THE CONSERVATIVES. Why? Because they have some of the best radio talk shows, having ALL persuasions of quests interviewed on many issues. It is a truly balanced format because they give voice to many different ideas and opinions. They are up to date on current issues talking to Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Scientists, Doctors, Business CEOs, Small Businesses, Aero-space Engineers, Infastructure Experts and Education Successes and Failures, Book reviews – the list goes on and on. What is somewhat confusing is why THAT is considered a bad thing? I have never found it a format for rah-rah-rahing for any side over information . It has Emergency capabilites to warn of weather, flood, and God-forbid an attack. It reaches those who have no cable access to programming.
I love it for the fact that it uses NO COMMERCIAL SPONSORS who pay to have their views expressed by the hosts of their programming and has some of the most intelligent commentary, entertainment, and educational content on TV and Radio. I think it's worth every $1.35 cents I pay per year.

Mary, there is still a great deal of controversy considering whether George Bush lied about WMD. Even Bill Clinton as president believe they did. Just a couple of clips for you to read.

"Satellite photos of a suspicious site in Syria are providing new support for the reporting of a Syrian journalist who briefly rocked the world with his reporting that Iraq’s WMD had been sent to three sites in Syria just before the invasion commenced."

"The information supplied to the Congress, and to the U.N., came from the 2002 National Intelligence Estimate. Remember, the Congress, both Democrat and Republican, overwhelmingly voted for the Iraq War Resolution. The U.N. did as well, including China and Russia."

I am certain you could find a number of articles that say different if you did some research. However, the conclusion that George Bush lied is equally disputed. That is why it is still controversial.

With all of the negatives going on in this world, this is the best the DNC can come up with? Give me a break? Trying to connect Gov Romney to Madoff and others who have robbed from the public and or their investors. That is stretching. Yet very few of you have a problem with that. I don't understand your logic. The producers of Sesame Street have made millions of money from this show, and they don't need a Government subsidy to continue making money. This is a perfect example of wasting our money.
What really bothers me about this ad, is it is approved by obama, yet he can associate with many many people of questionable character (and believe me, I am being very lenient with the use of the word lenient). obama takes credit for what others have done, yet even after 3 1/2 years plus, he can't accept responsibility for his record, and for what he has done. Example, during his debate with Gov Romney, obama mentioned obamacare only once, and said he kind of likes the sound of that name. Otherwise he didn't mention it at all. He never mentions it publically, yet this was his BIG THING when he was campaigning. Why is that?

    October 9, 2012 at 5:56 pm |
    • ezduzit757

The ad was meant to connect Romney to the lack of regulation that he wants to return to that allowed these thieves free reign to steal from investors and cause the financial disaster. (Unfortunately some people, like yourself, just aren't bright enough to make the connection.) And talk about taking credit for things others have done, didn't I see Mitt Romney trying to take credit for the auto industry recovery saying they took his advice (when in reality, his advice was "let them go bankrupt)

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are both Known liars. One dances around the truth and the other deliberately lies and misepresents the truth. The American people deserves to have our leaders tell the truth. We can not expect the truth from these two. America is better than that. Just because it is a know fact that politicians lie to win elections, we deserve better. To accept that all politicians lie and vote for them anyway is not an option. Romeny/Ryan lies and we should not accept that.

      Well here you go Mikie!
      the issue’s Editor’s Note.)

      1. Passed Health Care Reform: After five presidents over a century failed to create universal health insurance, signed the Affordable Care Act (2010). It will cover 32 million uninsured Americans beginning in 2014 and mandates a suite of experimental measures to cut health care cost growth, the number one cause of America’s long-term fiscal problems.

      2. Passed the Stimulus: Signed $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in 2009 to spur economic growth amid greatest recession since the Great Depression. Weeks after stimulus went into effect, unemployment claims began to subside. Twelve months later, the private sector began producing more jobs than it was losing, and it has continued to do so for twenty-three straight months, creating a total of nearly 3.7 million new private-sector jobs.

      3. Passed Wall Street Reform: Signed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (2010) to re-regulate the financial sector after its practices caused the Great Recession. The new law tightens capital requirements on large banks and other financial institutions, requires derivatives to be sold on clearinghouses and exchanges, mandates that large banks provide “living wills” to avoid chaotic bankruptcies, limits their ability to trade with customers’ money for their own profit, and creates the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (now headed by Richard Cordray) to crack down on abusive lending products and companies.

      4. Ended the War in Iraq: Ordered all U.S. military forces out of the country. Last troops left on December 18, 2011.

      5. Began Drawdown of War in Afghanistan: From a peak of 101,000 troops in June 2011, U.S. forces are now down to 91,000, with 23,000 slated to leave by the end of summer 2012. According to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, the combat mission there will be over by next year.

      6. Eliminated Osama bin laden: In 2011, ordered special forces raid of secret compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in which the terrorist leader was killed and a trove of al-Qaeda documents was discovered.

      7. Turned Around U.S. Auto Industry: In 2009, injected $62 billion in federal money (on top of $13.4 billion in loans from the Bush administration) into ailing GM and Chrysler in return for equity stakes and agreements for massive restructuring. Since bottoming out in 2009, the auto industry has added more than 100,000 jobs. In 2011, the Big Three automakers all gained market share for the first time in two decades. The government expects to lose $16 billion of its investment, less if the price of the GM stock it still owns increases.

      8. Recapitalized Banks: In the midst of financial crisis, approved controversial Treasury Department plan to lure private capital into the country’s largest banks via “stress tests” of their balance sheets and a public-private fund to buy their “toxic” assets. Got banks back on their feet at essentially zero cost to the government.

      9. Repealed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”: Ended 1990s-era restriction and formalized new policy allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military for the first time.

      10. Toppled Moammar Gaddafi: In March 2011, joined a coalition of European and Arab governments in military action, including air power and naval blockade, against Gaddafi regime to defend Libyan civilians and support rebel troops. Gaddafi’s forty-two-year rule ended when the dictator was overthrown and killed by rebels on October 20, 2011. No American lives were lost.

      11. Told Mubarak to Go: On February 1, 2011, publicly called on Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to accept reform or step down, thus weakening the dictator’s position and putting America on the right side of the Arab Spring. Mubarak ended thirty-year rule when overthrown on February 11.

      12. Reversed Bush Torture Policies: Two days after taking office, nullified Bush-era rulings that had allowed detainees in U.S. custody to undergo certain “enhanced” interrogation techniques considered inhumane under the Geneva Conventions. Also released the secret Bush legal rulings supporting the use of these techniques.

      13. Improved America’s Image Abroad: With new policies, diplomacy, and rhetoric, reversed a sharp decline in world opinion toward the U.S. (and the corresponding loss of “soft power”) during the Bush years. From 2008 to 2011, favorable opinion toward the United States rose in ten of fifteen countries surveyed by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, with an average increase of 26 percent.

      14. Kicked Banks Out of Federal Student Loan Program, Expanded Pell Grant Spending: As part of the 2010 health care reform bill, signed measure ending the wasteful decades-old practice of subsidizing banks to provide college loans. Starting July 2010 all students began getting their federal student loans directly from the federal government. Treasury will save $67 billion over ten years, $36 billion of which will go to expanding Pell Grants to lower-income students.

      15. Created Race to the Top: With funds from stimulus, started $4.35 billion program of competitive grants to encourage and reward states for education reform.

      16. Boosted Fuel Efficiency Standards: Released new fuel efficiency standards in 2011 that will nearly double the fuel economy for cars and trucks by 2025.

      17. Coordinated International Response to Financial Crisis: To keep world economy out of recession in 2009 and 2010, helped secure from G-20 nations more than $500 billion for the IMF to provide lines of credit and other support to emerging market countries, which kept them liquid and avoided crises with their currencies.

      18. Passed Mini Stimuli: To help families hurt by the recession and spur the economy as stimulus spending declined, signed series of measures (July 22, 2010; December 17, 2010; December 23, 2011) to extend unemployment insurance and cut payroll taxes.

      19. Began Asia “Pivot”: In 2011, reoriented American military and diplomatic priorities and focus from the Middle East and Europe to the Asian-Pacific region. Executed multipronged strategy of positively engaging China while reasserting U.S. leadership in the region by increasing American military presence and crafting new commercial, diplomatic, and military alliances with neighboring countries made uncomfortable by recent Chinese behavior.

      20. Increased Support for Veterans: With so many soldiers coming home from Iraq and Iran with serious physical and mental health problems, yet facing long waits for services, increased 2010 Department of Veterans Affairs budget by 16 percent and 2011 budget by 10 percent. Also signed new GI bill offering $78 billion in tuition assistance over a decade, and provided multiple tax credits to encourage businesses to hire veterans.

If teachers were more focused upon the three R's instead of doing social engineering for their chosen or imposed political faction, then there would be better literacy.
Just in case some don't know what the three R's are:
        Reading
        Writing
        Arithmetic
With those three skills well in hand the student and citizenry can exercise their freedom and right to choose on their own goals and achievements. Back off of the indoctrination and social engineering.

He stood on that stage and walked back every policy position he'd taken over the last eighteen months and completely lied to the American people about his tax proposals. What you should be showing in your ads is 5 second clips of Romney in the debate saying one thing, then a clip of him somewhere else saying the polar opposite thing. There is plenty of material there. Then follow it with the questions, “Who is this guy?” “Do you trust him?” “Do you think our enemies will?” “Do you think our allies will?”

What Romney didn’t say is how that cut would impact the federal deficit. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is the agency that receives congressional funding for a variety of projects of which PBS is just a part. The entire allocation to the CPB represents about 0.00014 percent of the federal budget. That’s not going to make much a dent in the deficit. But it will have a severe impact on public broadcasting.
So let me see 0.00014% from the federal deficit isn't going to do mudh to keep us out of that super lie about the debt owed China. the bulk of the federal debt 2/3rds of it is not owed China it is owed to Soc.Security, Veterans, and other retirees, and accounts, of the total federal debt less than 0.08% is owed to China.

"Despite his denials, killing off Big Bird is precisely what his plan would accomplish. There is a reason that commercial TV does not produce the sort of programming seen on PBS. For-profit networks have to cater to advertisers in order to stay in business. By necessity they are more concerned with generating profit than with quality programming. Take a look at tonight’s primetime schedules of the cable nets that were supposed to compete with public television:

Bravo: 8:00pm Top Chef: Texas; 9:00pm Top Chef: Texas; 10:00pm Top Chef: Texas
Discovery: 8:00pm Sons of Guns; 9:00pm Sons of Guns; 10:00pm Moonshiners
    Learning Channel: 8:00pm Toddlers & Tiaras; 9:00pm Cheapskates; 10:00pm Toddlers & Tiaras

That’s not exactly entertainment designed to enrich America’s children. It’s a jumble of insipid reality programs that repeat ad nauseum. It’s Real Housewives, Swamp Loggers, Hoarders, and info-mercials. If Big Bird were required to rely on advertisers for funding it would not be long before Sesame Street was just another avenue on the Jersey Shore.

    Here is a line up of some of the commercial and info-mericial riddled programming on The Learning Channel;
    19 Kids and Counting
    Bling it On
    Say Yes ToThe Dress
    Tattoo School
    Here Comes Honey Boo Boo
    Long Island Medium
    Hoarding:Buried Alive
    Extreme Couponing
    Toddlers & Tiaras
    My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding
    DC Cupcake

    The Discovery Channel
    Grant Goes Gangman
    American Chopper
    The Devil's Ride
    Texas Car Wars
    Fast & Loud
    Storm Chasers
    Kurt Sutter's Outlaw Empires
    Auction Kings

That’s the free market model for public broadcasting that Romney and the right advocate. It’s a model that would replace Bert and Ernie with Kim and Chloe Kardashian . Is that really the example we want to set for our kids?"

Jean, PBS is a non-profit broadcasting television network. Not a branch of the US government. It receives donations from the 1%, corporations and millions of individuals. They also receive about $450 million dollars a year from the federal government. PBS is a $3 billion dollar a year corporation. They wrap them self in a blanket of 'not for profit' and call them self 'public tv' as if they are sanctioned. They are the 1%.

Gov. Romney did not say that he was going to fire Big Bird, that choice is up to PBS. However he can decide to not 'donate' as much money to the company. If the viewers and co. think that shows like East Enders is so important then they will support it. Otherwise PBS will have to cut their budget.

Of course this will not balance the budget. No one ever claimed that it would. It is, however, represents Gov. Romney's commitment to get the budget under control. The question he asked is why should we borrow almost half a billion dollars from China to support a corporation?

I like PBS and watch it often, however I also donate money, and would never ask the government to take your money so that I can watch TV.

If you disagree then fine, however stop embarrassing your self. Claiming that PBS is all about education is just silly.

Maybe you just miss typed but the debt is not 0.08% is owed to China it is 8%. Big difference.

It does bring up another issue. All this time that you complained about President Bush running up the debt and owing money to China, now you are claiming that the amount owed is not that big of a deal? That the debt is to Soc.Security, Veterans, and other retirees and that makes it all OK. Wow you Liberals can turn on a dime.

After reading most of these comments I am even more convinced that people have no regard for truth anymore. No one wants to research anything and they only care about their own opinions and perspectives. No one thinks back more than a year or so and no one seems to link past events to the present. No one wants to look at all the issues, only a couple issues and normally those issues pertain to something that has to do with themselves. This is for anyone voting for anyone- please remember that there are millions of others out there that have to live in the US, not just you.

I write from Italy; our policitcians are corrupts, liars, thieves, dictators, and worse, but let me say that obamas polictical campaign is just plain ridiculous... i mean , it's about a STUFFED BIRD! what was his staff thinking? !!! even if hironical, it's ridiculous anyway!

Romney is a pathological Liar as illustrated during the debate.
Re-elect Obama and turn the House in 2012. Remove the obstructions to our recovery, Boehner et all.
