Boehner and Obama meet again

A White House official tells Dan Lothian that “The President and the Speaker are meeting at the White House to continue their discussions about the fiscal cliff and balanced deficit reduction.” Boehner's spokesman released the exact statement. We'll hopefully get a readout of the meeting in today's briefing.

The speaker and the prsident meeting, is a hopeful sign. I hope they continue to hammer out an agreement. It is O.K. with me (a senior) if the entry age to the entitlement progras is delayed by a couple of ears, starting in say 2025. What positively bugs me is that defense expenses are still sacroscant, that perks and benefits of the congress are still untouchable. Who is looking at the wastages in Medicare and medicate. We need to reduce expenses in all such area.

The Democrats are not going to cut any real spending other than defense, and if no one had noticed we are in a war. Entitlement reform is necessary.

I'm retired military and I get what you are saying somewhat. The rich have not been paying an equal percentage of their income in taxes for years. 2% of the population = about 6.5 million people. They have been earning millions and some billions of dollars and paying 1.5 to 2% tax on it for years and many have shipped jobs overseas hiding lots more money in offshore bank accounts. If those people were told to anty up w/3 million each, the National debt could be paid in full w/money in the coffers. Then increase their taxes to equal that of everyone else, problem solved. By hitting entitlements, you only hurt the poor.

With the size of our budget, there are many ways to cut additional and unnecessary expenses. This would be small items in addition to medicare and medicaid. Let's start with earmarks. The 2009 budget resolution had 5.5 billion in earmarks, a good place to start. How about the 1 million tab on bottled water for the representatives each year. And we should not forget the 800,000 trip that was flaunted at us on video. The government needs to clearly say we can no longer afford these expenditures.

These are all small items. But they will add up in the end.

With their wages and benny's they should be buying their own bottled water. Well I want to protest my tax dollars going to buy Boehner water....LOL!

He Clearly Has no idea how the economy works. He's a troll that's all. This is a Sartre-an existentialist way of thinking, which he, and "most" of the far right wing think. They think the the poor, or those of the 98% of the population don't take responsibility, they take more than their share of responsibility. Their spending most of their brain power trying to figure out how to survive. While those who are taking corporate welfare like many of the republicans and its ilk. While they continue to obfuscate the fact that they are the ones who are the moochers. The moochers here clearly don't realize who they are. The 47% are not the moochers. It's those who have had wealth redistributed to them. Of course the Republicans believe in redistribution in America, except its the belief in the redistributing the good and services and the wealth of those who are the masses to those who are of the very few and the elite. So Dan B here is only extending the logic of a kind of class of people who are not use to being open to or empathetic to the masses of Americans in this country, and I think his comments CLEARLY show that.

Obama couldn't put forth a budget in four years! Four years!!! And he still got elected! Wow that is a sad commentary on whoever voted for him. And they blame Republicans? Republicans are pro business. That inherently means low taxes and more monetary flow in the economy. Not rocket science here. But this sad excuse of a president wants to do nothing but grow government. Not the economy. Tell me democRATs, whose going to pay for all this government? Apparently you are cause there isn't going to be an economy left with these air heads running the show. Wait ... it's all going to collapse. There is a new youth movement who have been fed lies by a greedy and corrupt democRAT party and they bought into it hook line and sinker. All they were taught was to hate Republicans. Go ahead ... it's going to be bloody.

This is a free country and you have a right to your opinion. But if you can't see that the rich have been laughing all the way to the bank at those of us that aren't rich, then you may want to see an optomotrist. It is time the rich anty up. They have gotten away w/murdering our economy for years. Republicans have made it possible. Do away w/Grover Cleveland and his pledge. Make the rich pay their fair share and the National debt would disappear. Do the math, 2% of the population = about 6.5 million people. Multiply that by 3 million dollars each and the debt is paid in full. They could write those checks and not miss it.

I spoke recently with a Democrat business owner. He complained that the Government was going to put him out of business with their ridiculous taxes and fees. I politely told him who was running the show and that he is now the probable cause of his inevitable demise. You see, I told him, "you re-elected one of the worst presidents in the history of this nation" He said the Republicans would raise taxes on the middle class. That was about as big a lie as the one told to Eve by Satan. Republicans are all about low taxes on the middle class and higher taxes on the wealthy. But the Democrats twisted that one. All I can say is go ahead and destroy the Republicans. It's your own death certificate you will be signing. Social economic systems have NEVER worked anywhere and at anytime in history. It has caused more suffering and death in the world then any other form of economy or government in the world. You have drunk the cool aid and have had your minds poisoned. ... Really very sad!

We all agree the IRS needs to be put out of business and re designed. ... Like a Flat tax that proportionately taxes all levels of income with NO loop holes. ... that was recommended by a very wealthy man named Steve Forbes.

Already happening! Its called sales tax!

Sales tax doesn't help the state. MA has a sales tax and NH doesn't... And I tell you a lot of people head north to shop.

    December 18, 2012 at 3:40 pm |
    • jean2009

How much fuel mileage and fuel tax dollars does that cost the people of MA,? Drive 20 miles to save a few cents on sales tax and spend it on gas tax....whereas the people living in NH say they are being nickeled and dimed to death in other ways with higher property tax, higher cost on the items they buy,,and higher cost for registration fees.

Don't get me wrong. Of course people shop in MA. But I live near the NH border so it is only a short distance from people in my area.

So Ma is sitting by and watching NH rake in the dough? Ma. could easily lower the sales taxes and compete better! Oh wait! Who am I kidding? Never mind!

The GOP claims Obama is too liberal and too aggressive. This has been the GOP, Tea Party mode of operation. If they, the GOP are accused or being to fanatical or aggressive they simply turn it around and say the exact same thing about the Democrats. The GOP Tea Party minions then on radio and TV then add in the fear. The talk of death camps, the nation falling apart or an armed rebellion. Take anything the GOP says about the democrats, turn it around and 9 times out of 10 they have done the same thing themselves. They are hypocritical narcissistic, war and power mongers that have the full intention of dragging this nation down as far as they can until the people submit to their will and vote them back into office. And the entire time they will be telling you how bad it is going to get if Obama stays or another Democrat wins. How about leading via example instead of fear. How about the congress doing something that actually helps people apposed to nothing just to block the president. They have the majority why are they not using it for good ? Why is it every time a GOP or Tea Party or Religious right member speaks it is HATE, such as praying for the death of our president. How can anyone in any office believe on any level this would be good for America. How can they twist their religion that is supposed to be used for good to pray for such a horrible out come for our country. I guess the GOP Tea Party can do this exactly the same way they condone rape. Or hatred and discrimination toward gay people, Black People, Hispanic people and women. On one hand you, the Responsible gun owners want us Democrats to believe you are speaking the truth and on the other hand you turn around and vote with a party that holds these values, NOT VERY RESPONSIBLE. Not very responsible at all seen as you are the very ones that put the guns in the hands of the criminals. You the Responsible gun owner that let your weapon be stolen by a criminal or sold directly to a criminal. How else did these guns get on the streets and into the hands of the criminals ? The democrats did not distribute them to each criminal as they left prison. Or drop a truck load of them off in a poor area of any town USA. No the guns where sold to "responsible" gun owners and they failed at being responsible. Now they want a do over because of a document that mentioned "Arms" that was written when the only "Arms" available fired one bullet every 30 seconds. Not 1000 bullets every minute, big difference. Again the monumental ignorance and total disregard for the United States of America and the human race put forth by non other that the GOP and the Tea Party.
