Images of Lisbon: Cupcakes

,

We went on a hunt for Lisbon's famous custard tarts near the presidential palace, but due to the NATO lock down of the city, we where unable to get there. So the next best thing here, a city with a long tradition in pastries, are its cupcakes!

Although there are a couple of shops where you can find them, the best is TEASE, Lisbon’s Rock-n-roll Bakery in Bairro Alto. They offer many different designs, colors and flavors, all for $3.25 a piece - very tempting.

It was March 16, 2003, and I was part of the pool rotation accompanying President George W. Bush for an emergency war summit. We flew for about five and a half hours to the Portuguese island of Terceira, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, to an American airbase.
