Jon Stewart introduces Obama as White House chair of the Council of Economic Advisers Austan Goolsbee's boss Pres. Barack Obama
He said the president would be out in a moment, but first, a new segment called 'Let's keep the president waiting". Jon Stewart then sat at his desk acting goofy and twiddling with his pen and playing paper football with a piece of paper. He takes out a bowl of M&Ms and says he wants to play a game where you try to make people think there's a new candy called 88's
Obama comes out to cheers and applause and waving before he sits down
Obama compliments Jon Stewart's set and says it reminds him of the convention.
Jon Stewart gives Obama a mug he calls Mug Force One. It has a presidential seal on it.
Note from pool: these notes are not exact verbatim
Jon Stewart: Are we the people we were waiting for (laffs) or does it turn out those people are still out there and we don't have their #. How are you feeling about that?
Obama: I'm feeling great. Given what the American people have gone thru. The two toughest years since the great depression...but people are frustrated
Jon Stewart: you ran on high rhetoric. Hope and change. Democrats seem to be running on please baby one more chance. How do we go from hope and change to ..please don't give them the keys
Obama: When I won and we looked during the transition at what was happening to the economy my folks said enjoy this now because in two years people are gonna be frustrated...unemployment, home foreclosures.
Jon Stewart: what have you done people don't know about?
Obama: expanded childre's health insurance, expanded natl service..credit cards..is it enough No? I and Democrats out there want to see more progress. We have done an awful lot that we talked about during the campaign and we're gonna do more.
