Stump speechSTUMP SPEECH Category: Thing Definition: A single political speech used by a politician to address a variety of crowds. It’s often necessary due to the multiple speeches given each day during the height of campaign season. The term originated in the 19th century when politicians often used tree stumps platforms in order to stand above the crowd when they delivered campaign speeches. |
