Gibbs defends reporters in India

(CNN) – White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs is sometimes known for his sarcastic responses and tough exterior during press briefings.

But according to a White House pool report from President Obama's trip to India, it was the security for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, not the press, who were in a standoff with Gibbs. The altercation escalated, and when security refused to let the reporters through, Gibbs threatened to pull the president from his meeting.

President's Schedule – Tuesday, November 9, 2010

In the morning, the President and the First Lady will travel to Jakarta, Indonesia. In the afternoon, the President and the First Lady will participate in an arrival ceremony at Istana Merdeka. The President will then hold a bilateral meeting with President Yudhoyono at Istana Merdeka. The President and President Yudhoyono will then hold an expanded bilateral meeting. Later, the President and President Yudhoyono will hold a joint press conference at Istana Merdeka. In the evening, the President and the First Lady will attend a state dinner at Istana Negara.

The State Dinner was held at Presidential Palace Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The palace grounds were dramatically lit by thousands of small candle lights, with draped and tented areas on manicured lawn, and pathways decorated with orange and red mums and strings of white fragrant little flowers. Also spotted: a sitar band.

Vice President's Schedule – Tuesday, November 9, 2010

In the morning, at 8:00 AM, the Vice President will host a breakfast meeting at the Naval Observatory with Senator Chuck Hagel. This is closed press.  

At 11:45 AM, the Vice President will hold a Middle Class Task Force event in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building to announce a series of federal actions designed to lay the groundwork for a strong, self-sustaining home energy efficiency retrofit industry. The Vice President will be joined by CEQ Chair Nancy Sutley, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan.  

In the afternoon, at 2:15 PM, the Vice President will meet with Earl Devaney, Chairman of the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board. This meeting is closed press.

 At 5:00 PM, the Vice President will attend the White House Diwali reception.
