Obama measures 'true progress'

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Obama defined the "true measure of progress" for America in his weekly address Saturday. Focusing on his goal to "win the future" for the second consecutive week, he turned his attention to recent unemployment numbers and jobs.

"Our true measure of progress has to be whether every American who wants a job can find one; whether the jobs available pay well and offer good benefits; whether people in this county can still achieve the American Dream for themselves and their children."

By Barry's on definition his administration has failed. Americans can not find jobs. The most educated and skilled work force in the history of the world is being discarded. We will be known as the lost generation of workers. "Win the Future" or "Hope and Change" no matter what you call it we have had enough. Time for our own Egyptian style revolution. Time for the people to demand that Barry and his economic disaster team step down. We the people of the United States demand our government to stop borrowing and spending money, stop the wars, stop the partisanship, stop the constant campaigning. Only then can American do what she does best, create the future.

You do realize that our education standards and actual levels of achievement are below those of most industrialized countries? Our "Skills level" is determined by which video games are most popular! This has been going on for awhile now and should not be new to you.
Jobs have been being outsourced over-seas for quite some time now ... again not something that has happened in just the past 2 years

"So the vile "monkey as Obama" cartoon by the NY Post rag isn't ricast. The people outraged by it are.Yep, you gotta love the little pinheads logic."Actually, I think the cartoon was vile and stupid. It doesn't really matter to me if the person who drew it is ricast or not. IT'S A CARTOON– and I'm not a Chimp, monkey, simien, or lower primate. SO WHO CARES. It seems to me you care if you view yourself that way. I learned in grade school that you can't stop folks from talking about you, or calling you names. You darn sure can't control what they think about you. So if anyone hates me because I'm black–SO WHAT!I have more important things to get angry about.... Like Christians who love (well act as if) OBAMA more that Jesus – now that's infuriating. That's what I choose to yell, scream, cry, stamp my feet, convulse, spit and blog about - because at least God's people at some point will have an ear to hear, will search their hearts and repent. You angry, "never forgetting" BQSPFRC are going find racism in anyone who doesn't lick your boots....so, carry on.... (But, I won't give up on you UTS I don't care how many antebellum south slurs you call me)

Pres Obamas' analysis of what needs to be done now, in view of what has already been implemented, and the progress that has been made, does not in anyway say that he defines his administration as failure! You have been trying to define him, the FIRST FAMILY, and his administration as a failure, from the day he stepped a foot into the OVAL OFFICE! OBAMA is working to put the nation back on track through a process. Any intelligent person knows that it takes longer than 2 years to totally recover this nation!

Even Cameron of GREAT BRITAIN, who was also elected not long ago; and who's been handed the same type of problems PRES OBAMA has, says bringing a nation back to it's feet is a matriculating process! Honestly, it seems that such 'politically savvy politicians' on this blog should have been able to realize that 'fact', by now! However, for some, all that's important right now, is to get that N out of the WHITEHOUSE, by any means necessary! After that, like BUSH, we'll just 'select' SARAH PALIN for PRESIDENT!

Barry was not 'handed' anything. He begged for the job of president. He claimed that he would make our lives better, keep unemployment low (it was only 5% then) and return our standing in the world. Liberals need to stop this silliness of saying that Barry inherited or was given a problem. Either he wants the job or not. Stop complaining and do the work!

Remember how Barry said that if he borrowed and spent $1,000,000,000,0000 the unemployment rate would stay below 8%. By his best account he saved (he no longer says created) 3,000,000 jobs. That comes to $333,333 per job saved!. Any business person would tell you that they could have created 10x the number of jobs.

This administration has failed. Barry's own people are jumping ship like rats. It is a sad sad ending to his presidency. So many people had put their hopes and dreams on this man. He has failed them and his nation. There is true hope. Now that the love affair is over people can make real choices, not be swept up in all the hype. The next president will be elected for his/her ability not 'just to make history.'

IF ... "Any business person would tell you that they could have created 10x the number of jobs."
      Then why haven't they?
Corporation are sitting on loads of capital ... why? In fear of potential tax increases ... don't think so. And now that the "tax-cuts" have been extended whats the excuse?

      February 8, 2011 at 3:17 pm |
      • Jay in NC

Maybe I should not have said 'all business people' There are some that are not spending their capital and maybe they should, however it is up to them not you and I. It is up to us as to how Barry spends borrowed tax dollars. If the goal was to create jobs then he failed.

I think that most people wold agree that $333,333 per job saved is excessive. Consider this for $333,333 per worker.
        10 workers = $3 million = a Dairy Queen store + franchise fees.
        20 workers = $6 million = a McDonalds store + franchise fees.
100 workers = $33 million = a small manufacturing plant, building, supplies, workers pay, making plastic parts.
Each of these companies would be worth more than the amount to start them, in other words the money should have been used to create capital. Not more debt. Stock could be sold to expand and hire more workers. Capitalism not socialism.

Spending the money on government workers is a dead end. The money is gone and that is that, then we spend the next 40+ years trying pay it back, if ever.

The first LIE told in that conservative post is that OBAMA 'begged for the job of presidency'! He applied for it, and campaigned for the job like all the rest of the candidates! He didn't steal the job, nor was he 'selected', either! He WON! He was too, 'handed' the mess left behind by BUSH! I'm sure every other incoming president was 'handed' something left undone by the outgoing president, with probably one exception GWB! CLINTON left him sittin' pretty! BUSH/CHENEY left the WHITEHOUSE in a black smoke!

PRES OBAMA did go into office off the campaign trail voicing hopes and to make AMERICA a better AMERICA as did everyone else who was running! He had no idea of what he was up against until he got in there. Several people, including CLINTON himself, said campaign talk changes oftentimes, once you get up there and find out things you weren't aware of; nor could you have known about until you got in there! Yes, he was hoping and saying things were going to be better for us; he'd try to keep unemployment low!

The unemployment percentage you gave of 5%, 2 years ago, was indicative of the 'fact' that the employment system had already failed when OBAMA went into office! The LABOR/EMPLOYMENT 'TOWERS' were already FALLING! When a building's been imploded, it's coming on down! It was imploded under BUSH! It couldn't be stopped in mid-air! OBAMA also told AMERICA it was going to get a little worse before it gets better and that we were ALL going to have to sacrifice and live within our means until things got better!

For the love of all that is sacred, Liz.... I like some of what you say in your various posted opinions here, yet.. our economy works well with 4% unemployment. I don't know why, but it does. You'll learn this fact in economics class (no, I didn't actually take such a class – simply because the topic bores me to smitherines). 5% isn't actually that bad, though. 9.6% bites, however, and, as that number grows, so blossoms the remaining percentage of those people who have been dismissed from the roles of unemployment. In fact, the percentage increases exponentially. We're in deep trouble because our nifty president has been pursuing ideals vice military strength, growth and economic recovery. In short, he just blows.

Theory is different from real life. You are spuing what your ecomonic teacher and books told you, but people are living the real life. May be you need to go back to school of experience to have the guts to speak about how unemployment rate works best .

When BUSH, through PELOSI called OBAMA back in off the campaign trail to come back in and sign off on that BIG stimulus package, with him and McCAIN who had already flown back, as if they couldn't do without him and the rest of the congress; that was what that money was supposed to be for! To finance the banks, so they'd in turn keep financing business, but NO! they blew the money, left businesses hanging and folded up anyway! CEOS' stole the money and flew the coop! AMERICAS' GREED IS WHY WE ARE HERE!

The 2008 stimulus package was created by Barry.

"In January, I outlined a plan to help revive our faltering economy, which formed the basis for a bipartisan stimulus package that passed the Congress." –Barack Obama, Golden, Co., Sept. 16, 2008.

GWB was still in office in Sept, 2008! In Nov, 2008, he 'outlined' a plan or a 'stimulus package' to try to save jobs; had all of CONGRESS failed? Had it been implemented, it would've STILL fallen under the BUSH watch! Barack Obama was inaugurated on Jan 20, 2009. His first stimulus package of 787 billion was signed within the first one hundred days of his presidency; and that one was geared to trying to stop home foreclosures, which were due mostly to the already existing, escalating unemployment rise!

    • Jay in NC

Liz quoting facts? Oh,my what do we do now?

The truth is Barry claimed that in January, 2008 th he created the bipartisan stimulus package that passed the Congress. The one that Liberals now call the Bush stimulus package. You recall the one that you also said failed. Well your guy Barry created and took credit for it way before he was elected president.

As far as his second stimulus package passed when Berry was president. It did not create jobs and certainly did not stop foreclosures. It was a complete failure.

Liz, if you have any more facts on the number of foreclosures that Barry prevented. please share it with the class.

  12. Liz Carter in Georgia

Jay, you jumped out claiming the Sept, 2008 stimulus package was OBAMAS'! Yes, I did look it up because I knew the man didn't go into office until Jan, 2009! Then you came back with, 'The truth is Barry claimed that in January, 2008, he created the bipartisan stimulus package that passed the Congress'! Well, when was it? September, 2008 or January 2008? If he claimed anything, it was an outline which formed a basis of bipartisanship for Congress to start working from! OBAMA didn't create the package alone!

    February 8, 2011 at 9:50 pm |

Republicans voted for it when Bush was in office and voted against it when President Obama took office. I was for it before I was against it.

  13. Liz Carter in Georgia

And if I ever said any one of the stimulus packages had 'failed', show me where. I have made it my business not to jump on that band wagon; simply because I know that each one was done in good gesture and good conscious for a revamping of AMERICAS' economical system; the first one, under BUSH, as well as the one under PRES OBAMA! BUSH and OBAMA did right to try to stimulate the economy! The failure wasn't with them! GREED, SELFISHNESS and HATEFULNESS caused the recovery efforts to FAIL! NOT OBAMA, NOR BUSH!

I have not changed my story. Barry did claimed credit for the 2008 Bush stimulus. I posted his quote for you to see but OK you did not read so I will post once more.

"In January, I outlined a plan to help revive our faltering economy, which formed the basis for a bipartisan stimulus package that passed the Congress." –Barack Obama, Golden, Co., Sept. 16, 2008.

This is the same plan that Barry, Liberals and you Liz bashed for not working.

its american exceptionilism that seems to be the problem with obama.if you think appoligising for the hanus way in wich you treat others because they have somthing we want just seems alittle sociopathic.what is american excepttionoliism... rounding up native people and killing them for there resorces...condeming and killing those with out our religons...jailing people for a small bag of pot...destroying a persons life because they did not know there partner was 17...telling americans gov.has no place between between you and your doc.only whenthe christian right agrees...or would it be paying wallstreet bankers millions for outright steeling billions.if you have the slightest bit of brain cells in your head,it should be clear to anyone that the only mouths you hear the american exceptionl crap coming from are in fact living exceptional life styles... how many of you can say the same.
