Limbaugh takes aim at Michelle Obama's waistline

Washington (CNN) – Michelle Obama is taking heat from talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh after a report in the Vail Daily that she consumed a not-so-healthy-meal of ribs for dinner while on a recent visit to the Colorado resort, the latest example of conservative angst directed at the first lady's healthy-eating initiative.

"The problem is, and dare I say this, it doesn't look like Michelle Obama follows her own nutritionary, dietary advice," Limbaugh said Monday on his radio program. "And then we hear that she's out eating ribs at 1,500 calories a serving with 141 grams of fat per serving."

"She is a hypocrite," Limbaugh continued. "Leaders are supposed to be leaders. If we are supposed to go out and eat nothing, if we are supposed to eat roots, berries, and tree bark, show us how."

He knows all about hypocrites. The face of the conservative movement in America asks that you ignore his multitude of failed marriages, painkiller addiction, and the lies he conjures for sensationalized shock-jocked radio.

agreed – the problem with these message boards is the responces are cencored for 'civil discourse' but the comments are in responce to an unrelenating idiot – who spreads poison everyday on the airwaves – if CNN is so worried about keeping things civil why constantly report on this clown? oh yes – you have to pay the bills, sry forgot.

OMG this hardly bears a response but the FLOTUS is in incredible shape and can eat whatever she wants. You could take a page from her book, Rush. No, better yet, take her personal trainer. Your personal life and waistline are in shambles! And No she's not telling anyone to eat berries and bark, ya gas bag. Just be aware of what you're eating and get off the couch once in a while! I have never heard so many people denigrate a common sense program! Its like....they want her to fail...but I simply can't imagine someone as fine and upstanding as Rush and Palin could be so mean spirited!

    February 21, 2011 at 4:28 pm |
    • Linda

Well said Julibear. The whole concept is to eat healthy and indulge once n awhile. Its moderation. Michelle Obama is a perfect first lady. Instead of Sarah and Rush knocking the Obamas down all the time, why don't they just stand up for what THEY believe in. Everything out of their mouth is how bad everyone else is. And what a joke it was that Sarah handed out ice cream to a school. Stop the bickering and stop pointing fingers.

It's not name calling – a rose is a rose. He can put on Palin's pig lipstick – bit he's still Limbaugh.....a hypocritical, fat, racist, (hopefully former) dopefiend. And if you think I went too far calling him a racist – please post any positive comment he has made about any minority other than the mentally impotent Clarence Thomas. It may be viewed as funny to some of you, but positive comments about minorities killing minorities – does not count.

The sad thing is, is that you believe he's being serious. He is making a point about hypocrisy. She wants to tell the country how to eat right, but doesn't feel the need to do it herself. The point is, let us worry about ourselves.

      • Gcordo

She's trying to educate children about living a healthier life. How can people criticize this? And how is she a hypocrite for eating an "unhealthy" meal during Presidents Day Weekend. People can eat healthy and still indulge occasionally, that is hardly hypocrisy. Conservative or Liberal, people have to be able to see that.

        February 22, 2011 at 2:06 pm |
      • JN

Only idiots would take Rush Limbaugh serious. He is a joke, tries to sell sound bites and ridiculious rants for ratings. Anyone with some bit of education would see through the joker.

ah, wasn't Rush's "jumping jack" episode when he was on that flimsy stage, jumping up and down to work the crowd up...while the poor stage was bouncing under his obese frame?

He is nothing more than a peddler of ignorance and hate...and he gets paid for that. Pathetic.

  5. Note

Note, He is complaining about someone who is claiming that we are supposed to eat healthy, yet is eating unhealthy. HE is not talking about her weight. I guess the people up here in the comments DON'T even listen or interpret the merits of the comments, yet attack the speaker. I guess responding to the comment is below your sensibility.

However, Rush has a good point. ITs this White House, NO, THIS person specifically, who is claiming that people need to stop eating fattening foods and eat more healthy. IT is she who is meeting w/ restaurants trying to get them to change what they serve and how much they serve. YET, SHE gets to pig out on RIBS, KOBE steak, and cakes? That would be the definition of hypocrisy.

Please take the time to actually LISTEN to what people are saying, instead of blindly defending them over everything.

    February 21, 2011 at 4:54 pm |
    • Jonah Falcon

She IS eating healthy, dolt. That 5oz meat has only 600 calories. Do research.

Rush is not qualified to criticize other people's eating habits.

listen to your own advice. Has the FLOTUS advised the nation to never eat treats, ever? She is merely advocating that people eat healthier.

    • jadescorpio

When has it ever been wrong for the government to look out for the health of this country, whether its being better educated via reading (which Laura Bush advocated), or saying no to drugs (which Nancy Reagan advocated), or a healthy body from making smart choices about eating as Michelle Obama now advocates? It is not about limiting people's food choices. It's about making people aware and more conscientious about the food choices we make, and seeing as how we are the fattest and most wasteful country, just as children need parenting, we need some parenting from our government. I'm so sick of every word that is uttered by the Obamas regarding the welfare of this country being translated into "The government wants to take away our freedom!" by the right. Rush and and all the other convenient conservatives will find fault if on a sunny day the Obamas said "It's a beautiful sunny day and we should enjoy it". While I don't agree with everything that the President does, I agree with this position the first lady is taking on health. Unhealthy food can be eaten just like the Obamas' critics can dispense criticism or what you deem to be sense....in moderation.

      February 22, 2011 at 10:39 pm |
    • Linda

It's obvious note that you know nothing about eating healthy. One CAN have a "unhealthy' meal once-in- awhile. It's all about balance. When healthy eating people know that an "indulgent" day is coming up, we watch our diet before and after that day even more. Healthy people can enjoy it all, in moderation. WAKE UP

Anyone who would defend a hateful man like Rush Limbaugh is by definition hateful too. Remember how he made fun of Michael J. Fox's parkinson's disease tremors? I could go on but most people with an IQ over 50 will get the point.

      February 23, 2011 at 10:09 am |
    • DSH

There is nothing wrong with eating anything..in moderation, and that's her point. That includes ribs. It seems Limbaugh is stretching for something to b*tch about. It's actually comical. Anyone who takes him seriously has a problem.

Just amazing as to what you come up with, Mr. Limbaugh. It is well understood that the message of
healthy eating and exercise gives you opportunity on occasion to have a less than healthy meal.

    • Looks healthy to me

Vegetables with meat that isn't fried? Looks healthy to me. Rush obviously fails as an expert on nutrition or even a peddler of the truth.

      February 22, 2011 at 4:54 pm |
  13. Dorothy

It is clear Rush Limbaugh has NO idea what nutrition is.

    1. It is patently obvious by his obesity – measure his waist line someone.

    2. The math in his statement doesn't even add up – 141 grams of fat =1294 calories as fat is 9 cal/gm – leaving less than 300 for the meat of the rib.

    3. The meal Mrs. Obama was supposed to have eated sounded really cool and healthy. If it was from pasture beef and veges grown without pesticides it would be really cool and really healthy – pumpkin, greens, mushrooms etc.

    4. With regard to his comments about Mrs Obama's body, he is just super insulting – she doesn't have a pin-up body – most of us don't but she works out and is healthy.

    February 21, 2011 at 8:16 pm |

  18. Ryan C. Mendenhall

Rush, you wouldn't know anything about dieting. Look at you, you have clearly never tried to eat healthy. So, you obviously wouldn't know what a cheat day is. Many nutritionists encourage a once a week cheat day for people on diets. It allows people to enjoy their favorite foods while keeping in line with their diet. My girlfriend and I are on a diet, and that's what we do. We're vegetarian. So, we wouldn't be eating a slab of ribs. However, the rest of her family is on this kind of diet as well, and they had hamburgers tonight as a cheat meal. This is an entirely normal thing for someone who normally eats healthy to do. Go look for ways to criticize great role models somewhere else. This trick isn't working on us.

    February 22, 2011 at 1:49 am |
  19. dp

Wow, if this is the best criticism that Limbaugh can come up with, I would say that Michelle Obama is doing some pretty clean living! So she ate some ribs...almost everyone indulges every once in a while in a treat but if you have a healthy lifestyle overall you can do that without ill effects. No affairs, heavy drinking, drug addiction, no inability to put a sentence together that actually makes sense? And funny thing–you don't hear a nasty word from Michelle Obama despite outrageous and ridiculous recent comments regarding her being a proponent of breastfeeding because she proposed breastpumps for women be covered in order to encourage what has been clinically proven to be extremely beneficial to babies? And WHO is the hypocrite, Mr. Millions pretending to represent views of the common man?

I don't think Michelle Obama is saying to not eat anything fattening ever. #1 Everything in moderation. I f you are eating fast food or processed foods at every meal you are going to get fat. #2 get some exercise. All studies have shown that exercise is beneficial. #3 No one is advocating an entirely fat free diet. Any successful healthy, in shape person will tell you that occasionally indulging is good for you because you don't feel llike you are being deprived all the time.

I have heard many athletes, models, stars having a "off day" that allows them to eat what when thaey have been eating healthy the rest of the time.

For you knuckleheads that are going to play Gotcha everytime someone eats a fattening meal, take a quick review of your own meal choices and see how it compares to a balanced nutricious diet.

    February 22, 2011 at 11:03 am |
  24. Todd M

Oh Yeah. Don't forget, Rush has a multi hundred million dollar contract to say outrageous things. If he didn't people wouldn't listen in like Howard Stern and then they wouldn't make the big bucks. His point is to get publicity.

None of these conservative and liberal talking heads have held public office. Limbaugh, Krauthamer, Malkin, etc. They don't have to answer to critics so they say anything. That's how they get paid. Thqat's why Palin is smart enough not to run for President. It's worth the time and effort. She'll get paid better when she doesn't have to pay attention to peoples criticism.

CNN, ABC, CBS , NBC don't see that . They're just feeding the monster with their constant stories about her positions on topics.

Limbaugh is simply the mouthpiece of corporations and the right which is calculated to divide and confuse the middle class. As soon as we start coming together and stop paying any attention to these people is the point at which we begin to unite to overthrow the chains of enforced consumerism, and political atrophy. We the middle class need to speak with a single voice to make our demands known and to stop being manipulated by ideologues, religious fanatics, and hypocrites in the media, government, and in the corporations. Americans UNITE.

With me so far libs? She says these things out of one side of her mouth while eating ribs, ice cream and having such a fatty menu at her super bowl party. Does no liberal out there see any hypocrisy there? I get the Rush hatred, but simple minded liberals must see at least a little hypocrisy from the first lady, don't they? Rush Limbaugh likes to make fun and satirize Democrats and their wives. He himself has been married four times and all ended in divorce and none produced children, thank God! He likes to criticize, ridicule and satirize the First Lady, he forgets that the plumpest First Lady in modern times was Barbara Bush. He is disrespectful of the honor of the title and needs to pick on someone else for his crude remarks. He is disrespectful of women and being married four times, he's not Don Juan, even though he was once caught with Viagra at customs with a prescription that wasn't his. Which brings up his drug addiction, doctor shopping and illegal drug use in the past! He has been arrest several times for illegal drug possession and illegal drug use. He himself likes to ridicule and make fun of people who try to make people's lives better. Before his addiction became known, Limbaugh had condemned illegal drug use on his television program stating that "Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country! And we have laws selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs....And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up." Well he bought illegal drugs, pushed illegal drugs, used illegal drugs, imported illegal drugs, was accused and convicted but being the slime-bag that he is, got the record expunged! The King of Hypocrites!, he himself preached the one set of values and then did exactly the opposite! If I were him, I would keep my big mouth shut, lest someone call him in his face a drug addict, a womanizer addict and a food addict. The Pillsbury Dough Boy is the biggest hypocrite of them all !

Rush said "She sure don't look like someone on Sport's illustrated magazine". Well neither does your wife. Neither does a lot of women who are real.

What is that you folks for listen to this obese jerk do not get ? What do you not understand about his pure idiocy ? This joker is morbidly obese. He is not just not overweight. He is not just fat. For his height & weight he is morbidly obese. Look up the "qualification" for being considered morbidly obese and you will see a photo of Rush. Then again you are all ultra conservatives so the "facts" matter nothing to you at all. I'll close with this one. Have any of you evern seen Rush where he has worn a shirt that he actually "tucks in" at his waist ? ya' know. Like is the custom here in US. Oh. Unless you have a serious case of "dun lap disease". You all know what that is that is right ? Let me explain. He is so fat that his stomach "dun laps" over his belt...of course that would warrant him ever being seen with a "tucked in " shirt ! LMAO @ RUSH and his minnions!

Coming from a fat drug addict, Rush's comments have zero credibility.

Michelle Obama looks healthy and any man that thinks that a swimsuit model's body is normal should seek therapy. Thank god the rest of the world doesn't see through his twisted eyes: http://foodiegossip.blogspot.com/2011/02/michelle-obama-fighting-fastfood-like.html

I am a 17 year old high school student in Tennessee. As someone who want's to be a help in the world, i have found the sayings of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck to be supremely disheartening. But after reading these comments and realizing that here American's out there that actually care about other human beings has made me feel real proud of my country. I want to thank all of you on behalf of the first family because its easy to say negative things about someone than positive things. You have inspired me to be free to feel the way i do about the people who try to inspire hatred and bigotry. 🙂
(p.s. that is the first emoticon i have ever used in my life!)

How very Republican of Rush to make such a stupid and hypocritical criticism of Mrs. Obama and her anti-obesity campaign. What sane person would not applaud a First Lady for advocating healthier eating habits to our increasingly fat populace? No laws are being passed requiring people to eat healthy food, it is simply being suggested that we do so. Everyone, except Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin and their ilk, knows that having a less healthy treat every once in awhile does not make someone an unhealthy eater. The hypocritical arrogance of such statements by Rush Limbaugh (who apparently has lost all self-control over what goes into or comes out of his big fat mouth) would be astonishing if it weren't in line with similar stupidity from Rush and the right in the past. Don't forget, it was Reagan's GOP administration that changed the designation of ketchup from that of a condiment to a vegetable allowing schools to cut a serving of cooked or fresh vegetables from their hot lunch programs in the early 1980's. The fastest growing sickness in this country is the hateful stupidity of the rightwing propaganda machine.
