Obama Rio re-bound for 2016 olympics

RIO de JANEIRO, Brazil (CNN) – It looks like President Obama plans to return to Rio.

During his address to the people of Brazil, Obama made this comment: "Now you may be aware that this city was not my first choice for the Summer Olympics.  But if the Games could not be held in Chicago, there's no place I'd rather see them than right here in Rio.  And I intend to come back in 2016 to watch what happens."

Chicago was one of four finalists to host the 2016 summer games.  The president and first lady traveled to Copenhagen, Denmark in October 2009 to support the bid, but their hometown lost to Rio de Janeiro.

The real question is will he fly commercial or will he still be riding aboard Air Force One?

The "freedom fighters" in both Libya and Egypt are far worse for the US than the despots they will replace. Islamic extremists. So, just how smart is Obama?

Ramble3144 - How are you so sure these freedom fighters are worse than those currently in office? Even the "experts" are not certain of the future.

Yeah freedom fighters and protesters have never overthrown tyrannical leaders or occupiers and become successful nations...I mean except, India, France, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and of course a little known nation called the United States of America. But yeah you're right the world is better off with dictators.

They are like moNkees all jabbering at once so no one else gets a chance to tell everyonE how smart Palin is and so much better informed than Obama is. AND TO THINK THEY CALL US RACIST. How is he doing a great job? Pray tell! He has us wallowing in horrendous debt that he made and has 35% of the country on welfare, while this elite azz has his kiddies in "Sidwell Friends" scoolie and Michele prances around in designer clothing, during thier elaborate elite vacation spots. The list goes on and on. Wost president this country has EVER had. Pathetic beyond belief.

The debt was created by Bush when he took us into two wars that he kept off the books, while simultaneously cutting taxes on the wealthy – unprecedented in our nation's history! The global economy was on the verge of collapse and President Obama's policies kept us from going into a full-blown Depression. If you can't appreciate that, then I can't help you!

Ann, Where were you when W turned the budget surplus of 2000 into the great deficit of 2008? And when Dick Cheney was publicly stating: " Ronald Reagan proofed that deficits DON'T MATTER'? Where were you? DEFICITS DON'T MATTER was the Republican mantra.

The National debt was not caused by the wars. Love them or hate them they cost less than 600 billion during President Bush. There is an argument that some of that cost would have been with or with out a war (we need to feed the guys here or there argument) However think of this. President bush took office with a 6 trillion dollar debt he left with 10 trillion (4 trillion total) after 8 years. Barry on the other hand has spent over 4 trillion in 2 years. The Liberal spin machine will grind to a halt thanks to Google charts

@ Thinagain: Apparently not much help for you either with your deluded version of history. It was the Dems in Congress since 2006, that are responsible for the deficit and Obama since 2008 responsible for the EXPLOSION in the deficit. the facts are there for anyone able to see through the koolade haze to check them out.

Think again – does your little play name mean that you think before you start talking. Even with Bush's two little wars he only left office with one trillion four billion dollars in debt. Now in less than a year Obama took it to 14 trillion 6oo BILLION dollars. Smartazz you must be informed that Congress' sets budgets not Presidents. You have had a Democratic Congress for near seven years now. So think again after you think again just tell us how in the Hades did Bush get us in all this debt. YOU MORON.

Look, I live in Israel, and am craetinly on the left side of the political spectrum. I can tell you that the concern, if not actual fear here is palpable. Israel's security concerns are quite real, unfortunately not paranoid fantasies. While I for one have consistently criticized the rather right wing gov't in power now for it's stubborness, cowardice to take chances for real peace, and general political sliminess, there are very few indications that there exist genuine peacemakers to deal with. Look at the reaction of the Palestinians to the recent wikileaks statements, in which moderate Abbas denied even the hint of a willingness to amend the law of return which is an obvious non starter. I'm sure they have talked about it in private, but how terrible it is that when it is made public the denials are so vociferous. The fear of the moderates is unfortunately a bad sign for Israel that any of their even tiniest concessions will be accepted by an Arab public that still often seems to have continuing hatred festering for Israel. All signs seem to point against a real Arab acceptance of Israel. Hezbullah, who previously had a raisin d'etre of defending Lebanon against Israeli invasion and expelling Israel from it's land, has now grown even stronger and more provocative EVEN THOUGH ISRAEL evacuated all the disputed territories. Israel pulls out of Gaza, but continues getting attacked from the area. Such events make even left leaning Israelis quite skeptical about the possibilities of achieving peace with its neighbors. Now the fear arises that if Egypt becomes more hostile to Israel, the peace treaty, for which Israel evacuated huge areas in order to achieve peace, will have been for nothing. And I still believe we have to try to make peace, and still have glimmers of hope, and still hope for a change of governments here- but Israel is craetinly historically justified to have very serious concerns about the current situation. @Jerry–When it comes to fleecing taxpayers, George W Bush (start two wars but don't pay for them) was the master. Obama has supported tax money to save banks, car companies, and stimulate the economy. Also, everybody got a tax ÇUT last year, if you were paying attention.

Typical Liberal spin machine... McCain said that U.S. troops could spend "maybe 100" years in Iraq - saying he was referring to a military presence similar to what the nation already has in places like Japan, Germany and South Korea.

Just this year O'Biden said ... US Will Stay in Afghanistan as Long as Afghans Want Help ... I wonder how long that will be?

By the way President Bush negotiated the removal of troops from Iraq before he left office. Barry has missed the date for total with drawl. If you like being lied to then Barry's your man.

Here is the problem, while I have no real problem with our president investing time to further our relations with the world, the problem is that he fails to deal with our country's own problems. He is wavering and tells us whatever we want to hear. He stands true to nothing and that is my sole problem with him; we have no idea what he will do and what rights he will fight to protect. He treads on the constitution when convenient and upholds it when it is to advantage. He speaks of god as a christian then promotes homosexuality. He tells us that the rich get richer and that we the middle class get screwed, mean while HE IS THE RICH and you don't hear him telling us what cuts he is doing to share the hard times in tightening our belts. He talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk. I don't mind if he is a liberal but he should own it; not flip flop all over the place to get everyone's approval in order to get re-elected then of course at least half of those that voted for him get screwed.

Obama never ceases to amaze me. He took the United States of America to war while he was in a foreign country. And now while our military is prosecuting his war, against a nation that wasn't a threat to the U.S., he is still in Brazil chatting about the 2016 Olympics. It might be nice if he would come back to the U.S., and maybe get Congress to authorize his war, and maybe give us a better explanation about why he chose to start another war that will cost billions and billions of dollars on top of the massive debt mess he has already created? Even George Bush spent months and moths dicussing both Afghanistan and Iraq and Congress approved both! War use to be a seroius think until Obama! I wonder if future President will launch wars when they are out of the country or on vacation?

You people are so partisan it's sickening. This man could cure cancer and you'd still complain he's trying to destroy capitalism and institute socialism. Umm, why is he in brazil? Let's see... 5 out of 12 months of the year, brazil is the fastest growing economy on the planet. They started exporting enriched uranium. They're 90% oil independent. Not 100% per choice. They just found a huge oil reserve which will make them the 4th largest exporter in the world. They're succeeding when it comes to ending poverty. Per monthly basis they're the biggest agricultural exporter on the planet – rice, corn, beef, soy, name it. They paid their entire international debt 2 years ago which means that they're dictating instead of following. They're sitting on cash, and standing up against american interests politically, economically, etc. Last year brazil decided to hire the Chinese to dig their own oil wells instead of the americans when they could've done it themselves with their state owned petrobras.. Why? Because the brick countries are bonding and have no interest in helping america out in anyway. Why? Due to bad, terrible, politics. (bush primarily). That's why Clinton was there last year. And that's why Obama is there now. Expect a yearly trip. He's got to at least get the buying rights before the chinese take that too, Had we invested in alternative fuels like brazil did 30 years ago, we wouldn't be in this mess we're in now. It's hard to believe a 3rd world country beat us when it comes to alternative fuels. And you people are arguing about the first lady's dresses and Obama playing soccer with a kid. Give me a break. You people need to read, study, research, or we'll be in the past soon enough. Place blame where it's due. Obama is not perfect. I dislike many of his policies, but compare 8 years of bush to 3 obama years and one sees the difference. We're respected again. We're growing again, slowly, but growing.

I have compared the 8 years of the Bush administration to the 2 plus years of disaster that is Obama. In Bush we had a man, who while flawed at least stood up for something. In Obama we have a man who simply waits to see what is the most popular and then goes with that. And let's see as Obama has continued the Bush policy of rendition and Gitmo – it seems that even he now gets that it is much easier to talk about being president than to actually confront the real dangers facing us. As for us being respected again – by whom, almost all of Europe has laughed at Obamas lets' spend some more economic policies.

Ahem!!! Who is it? that respects us now. You wrote enough you should have convinced someone of this man's patriotism, but alas you failed to communicate. This man and his wife are not Patriots to this country. It was he who brought the tremendous debt not Bush. Yes war is costly. But were we to do nothing for 9/11. Presidents don't set budgets Congress does. We have had a Democrat Congress for 7 years. They not Bush brought this tremendous burden upon us with Obama's help in his fabulous bailouts. He has done nothing for the Border except open it wider. When the Gov of Arizona tries to close her side of it herself he tries to find a way to persecute her. He has done nothing in Texas. And oh yeah it was Clinton as President with a Republican Congress that helped Brazil overthrow their government and they repaid America in kind by setting a socialist government in power. It is you Bud that needs to do research. America should never do business with China or Brazil. Brazil sells uranium to Iran. China has been our enemy in every war we've had since WWII. We owe them so much now what will we do if they call their marker in. Go to war with a country who outnumber us 10 to 1 in troops. Have more money than we can even print with no collateral. Thanks to Obama who has cut the military budget. No one will enlist if he finishes up with his desire to cut their salaries. The draft would have to be implemented if we survive that long. Get ready to obey the 12 big boys of Red China. THANK YOU DEMOCRATS AND OBAMA. Obama is accomplishing out what he came here to do. He is not an American but he is Muslim by his own admission. You can bet he take his orders from whoever is the leaders of the Muslim Empire who wishes to destroy all the infidels. So thank your Obama for any misery we have.

      March 21, 2011 at 2:29 pm |
      • Andrew

@ gaylon barrow yeah, blame 8 years of no job creation on Obama. Blame 8 years of incompetence and mismanagement on obama. Blame 8 years of unpaid tax cuts and unpaid wars on Obama. No matter which president is in power, he'llnever fix all the mess in 2. Perhaps not even a decade. I voted for Bush, but one needs to realize when a mistake was made. He was a terrible mistake.

How many jobs did bush create in 8 ears?
What steps did bush take to grow the economy?
How much money did bush spend in infrastructure?
What steps did bush take to regain international confidence in america?
How much money did bush invest in tech, science, research?

You people must be blind. If democrats are terrible. Republicans are a joke. I dislike them both, but on this count, republican ideals under Bush did what they did to america. Tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts. All unpaid for. Wars. No investment in what counts. No jobs created. Nothing.

        March 22, 2011 at 9:06 am |
      • Jay in NC

Andrew, You asked "How many jobs did bush create in 8 ears?"

        According to http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/surveymost?bls
        Civilian Employment (Seasonally Adjusted) jobs
        Jan 2001 137,778,000
        Jan 2009 142,201,000
        Jan 2011 139,323,000

Therefore about 4.5 million jobs were created. this is from a high of about 145,000,000 employee during President Bush.
Barry on the other hand has lost 3 million jobs.

If you prefer to use Liberal math, knock off the first two years of Barry's term and blame them on President Bush then you would also have to knock off the first two years of President Bush's and blame them on Clinton. Bush still comes out a head...having created 2 million jobs and Barry 0 jobs.

        Jan 2003 137,417,000
        Jan 2011 139,323,000

Check out the .gov website and let me know if I have the numbers wrong.

Gaylon; you're a funny person. We know by now that you're a military man of 30 years. That's what you say anyway; in every one of your comments. I've thanked you for your service and I know you must be proud of that; but did you have any rank? Did you work with military strategists on logistics and timeliness on entering or becoming involved in campaigns and missions? I think not if you can say 'we should have had boots on the ground there 30 days ago'! You know more than the PENTAGON and the UN, don't you?

Gaylon; Ok, here's your chance to tell us about Palin. Will you tell us how much more smarter or informed than BARACK OBAMA, Sarah Palin is? GIVE IT TO US! Please give us at least one example; just one analogy, even! Mr Barron, 'monkeys'? You do know who bigots and racists aline monkeys with, don't you? If by chance you missed it, which I doubt, they aline them with black people! Why? I don't know because they look more like the 'CAVEMAN'! Do you know what race the caveman's alined with? The white race!!

It floors me that you clowns continue to CLAIM that BUSH came into office on top of a deficit! It looks like you're the ones who're rewriting history and vigorously working SO hard to change the 'FACTS'! That's why I don't just automatically trust in 'facts'! That cowboy came into the OVAL OFFICE and sat down on top of a surplus! Clinton left Washington and the nation in good standing, diplomatically, economically and financially! Ya' Banking on telling that LIE long enough, some idiots start to believe it?

Liz, here are the numbers for National Debt from Barry's administration. They say that on Jan 20, 2000 when President Bush took office there was a $5,706,174,969,873 debt out standing. Here are some other interesting numbers.
Jan 20, 1994 $4,539,326,517,316 (Clinton started with this amount)
      Jan 20. 1996 $4,987,706,668,956 (Clinton)
Jan 20, 2000 $5,706,174,969,873 (Bush started with this amount)
      Jan 20, 2004 $7,078,257,721,070 (Bush)
Jan 20, 2008 $9,294,461,192,747 (Barry started with this amount)
      Today: $14,224,862,420,919 (Barry)

So Barry in two years has spent more than President Bush did in 8yrs and notice that Clinton did not leave a surplus. If you can find a government site that shows a surplus that you talk about please give us a link.

@Gaylon Barrow; you say 'No one but African Americans, Illegals, and trailer trash would even think to vote for this traitor'. Gaylon, there are many Africn Americans who have been poisoned against OBAMA listening to spew from people like you! Illegals can't vote; and trailer park trash, WHAT? voting for a black man? NO WAY! They voted for McCain, so what are you talking about? If you had a change of heart which one of those groups you listed would you fall in? African Americans, Ilegals, or trailor trash?

Jay, Thanks. I looked over those money amounts you listed, but early in your post you said 'They say that on Jan 20, 2004.....', well I think that was around the same time or soon after when I heard 'them' say that the FORMER PRESIDENT WILLIAM J CLINTON, left us with upwards of a 5 trillion surplus budget. However, since we are now-a-days counting every dime this president spends to rectify our budget, I still wonder why nobody was concerned with the spending and borrowing of the past administration!

Clinton did not leave us with any surplus. The truth is there just look at the .gov website.

You seem pretty proud of bush's jobs numbers. That was my point exactly. 1 million jobs in eight years. Now do us some research and show some other presidents, perhaps Bill Clinton, Ronald Regan, Jimmy Carter, etc. More jobs were created under 4 years of Bush Senior than 8 of bush. Carter oversaw the creation of 10 million jobs in 4 years.

Bill Clinton oversaw the creation of more than 21,000,000 jobs in 8 years. Compare these numbers to 1,000,000 from George W Bush. Is it clear why every competent economist can place blame where it is due? But if it were up to you, reading from your posts, you'd prefer Bush to Barry, the Islamic kenyan who wants to destroy capitalism. I never considered myself liberal, but if looking at numbers and analyzing better performance means being liberal, then I can't help it.

And as far as obama's numbers go. Yeah, he's doing terribly. Especially picking healthcare reform before creating jobs. Healthcare which we can't afford. Giving the biggest tax cuts ever, 40% of the stimulus, which we could not afford. More evidence that tax cuts do nothing to stimulate economy as if 8 years of bush tax cutting did not exist. By not increasing taxes on everyone, especially the top bracket. By not ending the wars or at least cutting the defense budget. By not cutting social security and entitlement programs. He's doing terrible by any account. But he is still a lot better than bush ever was. You refuse to see it simply because "barry" used to be a poor black man raised by suspicious Islamic sources. Who are we kidding? He may not even be American... As if His wife never sponsored him for citizenship

And before you blame my liberal bias for picking the number 1,000,000 for 8 years when describing bush's track record on job creation. It's from newsweek. Most estimates range from 1 to 3 according to google economics. But who knows...

Andrew, I had already answered this question on President Bush job creation. The answer is 4.5 million, Who knows? Well the government post figures for it each week. As I said before take a look at http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/surveymost?bls
The numbers are there for all to see.

Andrew, I have to say you have certainly done a great job in laying it all out there on the table; Fair & Balanced. I read with deep comprehension and thought to the points you made and they were tough to swallow in some instances, but observationally and analytically on point! Thank you. I especially appreciated your strong reminder that WHOMEVER was PRESIDENT couldn't nor should be expected to fix 8 years of mess in 2 years! With him having to build on some old ideals of the 'old heads', it's a tough job!

Liz, all I know is that I made a huge mistake by voting for George W. Bush. I have never thought of myself as a liberal as I hate huge government, don't like paying increased taxes, favor businesses, etc. I always thought I had the views of a conservative until I saw what people do when they take these views to the extreme. Obama was elected, but soon he became an extremist Christian from a racist church, then a radicalized Muslim raised in Indonesia, then he was not a citizen, then he was not a patriot, then a Marxist... racism anyone?

99% of all economists out there describe that the only way for a country to leave a recession is through government spending. Best spent money is money that lasts – infrastructure, people get hired for public jobs, money flows, economy recovers, private jobs kick in, etc. Republicans opposed it going against most economists. Jobs stagnated. According to 99% of most economists the bailout was too small to be effective, republicans even opposed the bailout. Republicans opposed the extension of unemployment benefits to the poor and dwindling middle class when they were struggling the most, 99% of economists agree that not helping them would leave the economy in even a worse shape, since people would be out of money and not spending, etc.

Republicans blocked most job creation bills to come to the senate, especially after the democrats lost their supermajority. Then everything was blocked. The housed passed hundreds of bill that died in the senate floor. This is not the way to run a country. I miss sensible republicans. Now they're in power taking women's rights way, denying gays the right to sponsor their partners for citizenship as if they were not citizens, ending unions rights and screwing with the middle class even more etc. What does that have to do with jobs? Nothing. Bush has one of the worst job creation records in the history... This is not a republican forte. Republicans always left office with huge deficits, democrats always set them straight by paying for everything as they govern and by raising taxes. Obama has failed to do both things. So I blame him for not having the guts.

But overall we have a very short memory in this country.

Can you guess which Bible verses Barack Hussein Obama likes to avoid?
Proverbs 19:10 (NIV): "It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury – how much worse for a slave to rule over princes!"
Also Proverbs 30:22 (NIV) which says that the earth cannot bear up under "a servant who becomes king."
And Ecclesiastes 5:2-3 (KJV) advises: "let thy words be few...a fool's voice is known by multitude of words."
Although Obama is not descended from slaves, he may feel that he's destined to become a black-slavery avenger.
Or maybe an enslaver of all free citizens!
For some stunning info on Pres. Obama and his fellow subversives, Google "Michelle Obama's Allah-day," "Obama Supports Public Depravity," "David Letterman's Hate Etc.," "Un-Americans Fight Franklin Graham" and also "Sandra Bernhard, Larry David, Kathy Griffin, Bill Maher, Joan Rivers, Sarah Silverman." Also Google "Prof. F. N. Lee's ISLAM IN THE BIBLE [PDF]."
PS – Since Christians are commanded to ask God to send severe judgment on persons who commit and support the worst forms of evil (see I Cor. 5 and note "taken away"), Christians everywhere should constantly pray that the Lord will soon "take away" or at least overthrow all US leaders who continue to sear their conscience and arrogantly trample the God-given rights of the majority including the rights of the unborn. Do we need a second American Revolution?
PPS – For a rare look at the 181-year-old endtime belief which has long neutralized millions of American patriots by promising them an "imminent rapture" off earth – which has diverted them away from being prepared to stand against all enemies, domestic as well as foreign – Google "Pretrib Rapture Dishonesty," "Pretrib Rapture Diehards," "Edward Irving is Unnerving," "Pretrib Rapture Secrecy," and "Pretrib Rapture – Hidden Facts" – all by the author of the bestselling nonfiction book "The Rapture Plot" (the most accurate documentation on the pretrib rapture's long hidden birth in Britain in 1830 – see Armageddon Books). Also Google "Stamping Out Harold Camping."

Andrew, I agree; and I believe he's failed on those two things of 'setting things straight by paying for everything as they govern and raising taxes', not so much because he has no guts, as much as it's his great, but genuine desire to try to work along with conservative 'status quo', until he can see his opportunity to completely take down that system, but for good! Right now, that snake of a system is holding him hostage; and at the same time using him as their 'fall guy'! Two years? This to shall pass.
