President Obama wants to "friend" you

(WASHINGTON) CNN - Taking his message directly to the people, specifically young people, President Obama is planning a "Facebook Live" town hall later this month. The event, tweeted by the White House Tuesday, says this is "not your average Facebook invite". (see page here) The president's official Facebook page touts the event as an opportunity "to connect with Americans across the country." This comes one day after Obama announced his plans to seek re-election on YouTube.

The virtual town hall is set for April 20th when the president will travel to Facebook headquarters in California to answer questions submitted on the event's "wall". The White House says the town hall will focus on the economy and the president will "discuss the tough choices we must all make to put our economy on a more responsible fiscal path, while still investing in the innovation economy that makes America more competitive."

Facebook will actually select the questions and stream the event live. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is expected to appear with the president.

The appropriate action for all of responsable government officials in DC would be to resign, you all have forgotten who you work for.. you work for everyone in this country who is a legal resident time to do your job or get out period...

I agree. I listen to Obama, and wonder how he can stand up in front of America and lie. He has become a pro at this as well as his party. Obama has done nothing for this country and still continues to blame past administration for the problems. Realistically is goes back to Clinton who along with Barney Franks and Chris Dodd told Fannie and Freddie to give out mortgages to anyone whether they have the money or not. Bush questioned this several times but Dodd and Franks assured Bush all was welll when it was not. So to Obama, nope, no vote from me, and as for the Democrats, such as Reid, Pelosi, Schumer, Durbin, Franks, etc., look for new jobs and, no unemployment for you as you have ripped off Americans enough.

BRAVO, Sunshine! Good for you! So many of us agree with you but we're not heard no matter how loudly we scream. This country has gone to hell since the wanna be got into office a couple years ago. What a mistake, America. OMG now stands for Obama Must Go!

I agree with you 100%. I am so angry at Obama and the puppets in Washington, I dare not say just how angry. What you also have to realize is BOTH Dems and repugs are in the very same boat. They put on such a show! Oh my God, they should all be nominated for an Oscar Award.Except! They forget (or don't care) that there are people like you and me that know B.S. when it is presented as fact. You and I may not agree on everything but, I think I can safely say that most of the American public is SICK AND TIRED of these imposters stealing our hard-earned taxes, for their personal gain, and we as a nation do NOTHING about it! This is why they get away with it and will continue to do so.

I'm sorry, my friend – there are no responsible government officials left in Washington... and for those of you who persist in standing up for "Your" side and trashing the other side – when will you learn that NEITHER side is on YOUR side?

I bet you have a Facebook account? I bet you're on it daily from computer to smartphone to tablet. Over 500 Billion+ are on Facebook, This might be a good place to start, if you're trying to reach a few people. Might be better than taking an Ad out in the paper eh?

500 billion + people on Facebook? Amazing...especially when the world currently has about 6.75 Billion people on it

U cant compare me or anyone posting on here to the president. This man has a enormous responsibility and he is not doing his job. he is more concerened with getting re-elected.

    President Obama,
I 'm so sad because you gave permition to go to war with Libya. I'm not sure, but i think that once agin America is doing the same mistake. How could you suppor, in modern time, a regime change through the use of "bullets" and Kalahnikovs"? Why America is using all its military power to bombard Libya a very leatle and insignificant country if compared with our great America?
This is the mistake that have been done by J Bush: He attacked Irak but the true enemy was very very near by developing the kind of armament.
I would like to vote on you but i'm a forenner but we need a strong USA not only militarely but also economicaly and socially. A weak economic and social America will be bad for all of us around the world.

This is ridiculous – wasn't Obama just giving a commencement speech last year where he warned young people about social networking and blogging and XBox360? For anyone who thought the Bush years were bad, this must seem like the Twilight Zone... Make up the rules as you go, Barack – hope and change.

    April 6, 2011 at 11:12 am |
    • Bob

Apparently you only read Fox News' skewed paraphrasing of the commencement speech and not the speech in it's entirety.

      April 6, 2011 at 4:12 pm |
    • Xerxes 2010

Yes, you are right. Obama did give a speech about Social Networking, Blogging, xbox360, etc...but it doesn't take a genius to see that though he gave those warnings, young America is still tied to Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Blogging, gaming consoles, emailing, chatting, more than TV. So since everyone is refusing his warning, why not get on here to reach out to them? What, do you think he can make a big impact by abstaining from those that he talked about? NO, he needs to reach out to those who are still plugged-in. He knows what he's doing. Freedom is why everyone is doing what they want, regardless of what he said. Who should be held accountable for the young are...PARENTS. Parents are the immediate enforcers, are they not?

Hmmm, it looks to me that we the people are actually working for the super rich government and they only care about their own agendas and its definatly not what it appears to be.... Just sayin...

Forget funding the Military. Bring the troops home, stop jumping in head first into every single war and we can save Billions and not have to cut programs that America needs: Medicare/Medicaid, SSI. After that, Go with Universal Healthcare, let U.S Born Americans, registered Americans choose any Healthcare Plan they wish. Advise Health Insurance companies to stop treating Life as a commodity. We really dont need healthcare providers. We can pay directly to the doctors, hospitals, etc. They are their to pay it for us. Cut out the middle man!

Clearly you dont mean blight, but you mean Light. As in Obama is the Light on America. If you did a Global Pole that cannot be tweeked to show bias, Obama wins hands down over the Bush's any day. Clinton got us out of national debt, Bush in national debt times 2. Obama by far has the Worst Case Scenerio that any president could ever hope NOT to be in. I know he is doing well. I like to keep him a President until he is ready to give it up!

  13. Are you serious?!

This is why America is in the toliet! You all blame Obama for what is going on, when it's the republians in the house that cause the problems! Democrats agreed to over 50% of the cuts! 50%! If that is no the very defenation of compromise I don't know what is. Obama inherited a disater and you blame him for it. Take a look at history: Regan – recession! Bush Sr.- Recessoin! Clintion – greatest economic up turn in recent history! Bush Jr. – the wrost recession since the Great Depression! Democrats take power for 2 years and everything they try to pass is voted no by the republicans, and most noticably by the mig ,mouth Tea party idionts! Put the blame right where it belongs on the party of No! No compromise, No decision, No equality the poor pay and the rich stay rich. THis is the America we live in and the sad one our children will inherit if the Republicans have their way. Republiacns – the party of the rich and elite who say, "Screw the common American!" Welcome to Boehnner's America you voted him in and you deserve his lies and the next great depression that he and his ilk promise. Congrats!

The Democrats were in control of the House from January 4, 2007 – January 3, 2011, 4 years. Why do you feel the need to rewrite history to justify your complaint?

You are so right. They are blaming Obama for Bush mess. Anyone with common sense can see the republicans are doing everything they can for Mr. Obama to fail. I can't see how you support a party that only looks out for the rich best interest. See how they want to shut down the country over the Bush tax laws. Bush was in office for 8 years and there were still no jobs. How keep the current tax laws with help the economy. And after this they are doing the economy is growing. But most of the media will tell you different like Fox news. I not say Obama is perfect. But you are blaming the wrong person. You don’t realize the state the country was in when Obama took over. When will have become like the Russia crash. How you expect Obama to change things around in only in a short time. And when the republicans are doing everything to make him fail.

GE (profit: $26B tax refund: $4.1B) did not pay virtually any taxes after net profits of multi-millions. There is nooo reason at all, why taxes have not been paid? They are non-profit, they did not donate or any type of work that would outweigh what they brought in. But I am living in poverty and get hit with big taxes and if I don't pay, penalties out the ying yang..Who else made out like a bandit: Goldman Sachs "$2.2B in profits, $800B from Fed, 1.1% taxes; Valero Energy made $68B in sales and even got a nice $168M tax refund; Exxon Mobile profit: $19B tax refund: $156M". Am I the only one seeing this trend here. I say if you make more than X-amount as a corporation, you need to be in X Tax Bracket and pay something big. I make $35k and pay taxes, lol

The question is do people need a facebook account to watch or post questions. If people need to make a facebook account to watch or engage, then Obama's doing it is inappropriate. Whether people will need an account or not should be discussed in the article.

Obama inherited this mess from REPUBLICANS! Do any of your parents or grandparents get medicare or social security? if yes, you had better build on another room...they will need somewhere to eat and sleep!

Make the MILLIONAIRES PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE OF TAXES that will help the deficit more than anything else...it's a proven fact!

    April 7, 2011 at 7:08 pm |
    • Jay in NC

According to Wikipedia there are 16,600,000 millionaires in the US. that is people who's net worth is 1 million or more. We are in debt over $ 15,000,000,000,000 therefor each millionaire would have to pay $ 903,000 + in taxes just to pay off the debt.

To pay the Obama budget of $3,680,000,000,000 / year.

      People who earn:
$1,000,000 or above ( 350,000 people) would have to pay $ 10,500,000 per year each.
$250,000 or above (1,699,000 people) would have to pay $ 2,354,326 per year.
$200,000 or above (3,024,000 people) would have to pay $ 1,216,931 per year.
$100,000 or above (7,000,000 people) would have to pay $ 525,000 per year.

Radical spending is bankrupting our country. The spending has to stop.

Who do you purpose we tax and how much?

      April 8, 2011 at 11:26 am |

The wealthy are the best candidates, the most financially stable and able. They more than likely aquired their wealth through the spending blood, sweat, and tears of the struggling working I believe 'to whom much is given, much is required'; and especially if they claim to be 'patriots'; Sooo patriotic and love their country. They should! Like the greedy vampires that they are, they've sucked their countrymen dry of the ability to pay even one more dollar! @Teapartyhater; I agree with your comment 100%.

You are watching too much tele. Blood, Sweat and Tears was a rock band 40 years ago. The hatred and vile remarks seem to stem from the far left (along with poor vocabulary and spelling). Do those who hate Tea Party patriots and wealthy people also hate Hollywood movie stars and sports celebrities? Thank God America still offers the opportunity for any person to become "wealthy" but it usually takes extreme intelligence and very hard work. In America those who can't work are provided for more than adequately... up to and often including free cell phones. Sick and no insurance? You can get treatment at a hospital. Entitlements ensure dependency – why work when you don't have to? Obama will take care of you, all you have to do is vote for him.
