Obama addresses 'birther' issue

Washington (CNN) – Before President Obama left Washington Thursday for three fundraisers in his hometown, he tackled Trump's recent concerns and outlined the road ahead as a candidate for re-election.

In an interview on ABC News, he addressed the on-going zings from real estate mogul Donald Trump, who's ramped up his questioning of Obama's birth place in recent months saying, "Over the last two and a half years there's been an effort to go at me in a way that is politically expedient in the short-term for Republicans."

"But it creates, I think, a problem for them when they want to actually run in a general election where most people feel pretty confident the President was born where he says he was, in Hawaii."

Okay.... Frankly I don'r care one way or the other. I know that there will be a reckoning one way or the other. Mr. President you know in your heart of hearts if this is a valid claim or not, and, only you will pay the price if any is rqeuired. You say your are Christian, when the judgement comes that is when it will be all squared up.

Mr. President ... see if you can help heal this country by stopping the playground rivalries. Stop lumping all conservatives into a single group, I realize it suits your political ambitions.... You can point your supporters to a single group of people ..... But are you standing there trying to tell us that there are no radical members of the liberal party?

To conservatives ... the same goes for you .... Stop trying to blame all liberals for the acts of the radical side.

Bill, I'd say that is a pretty good comment. However, with as much rock-throwing, hate, disrespect, and at the very least near-treasonous antics that have been waged against MR PRESIDENT by the conservative/tea party/racist/fear-mongering/crazies; and sadly the faux liberal dixiecrats, not true DEMOCRATS, how can you even expect that lone man to be the one to stop this type of playground rivalry? This takes all AMERICANS! This is a different kind! These kind of 'games' have never been played in WASHINGTON!

your right – it is PIT-TEE-FULL – why doesnt he just show it? Why? Why not put this to rest once and for all with just simply showing it?

Because he already has? Also because it is a stupid stand point that only those people who can't think of anything better to complain about use? Oh, maybe because he would be giving in to those vaguely racist people who for some reason can't seem to believe he is an American? Come on now. Stop being ridiculous and pick a better issue to whine about.

@Fed Up, I think the problem is, no other person who's ever run for President of the US has been called by any conspiracy fringe in this country to do the same thing! Once they were vetted through whomever does the vetting, that was it! Why? It's because of principle! Why is it that this particular PRESIDENT has to plaster his birth certificate to the nation and the world? Then you wonder why many continue to scream racism. You tell me, why should he bend over backwards for conspirators? It's been proven!

No one else who ran for this office ever had a name like his and the fact he decided not to show the birth certifcate adds to the issue and I'm sure race does come into this, Obama himself is the cause of the problem just man up and show it. Also this guy really had no experiance what so ever for this office. A General Powell he is not.

Racism. His name is unusual and therefore he must not American! It isn't like we don't have people named 'Apple' here in the states.
Also, General Powell =/= a president

What is Barry afraid of? Why are his supporters going to such trouble to hide a little paper document?

I'm one of his many supporters. I'm not privvy to his birth certificate to be able to hide it! I don't think it's his supporters who are hiding it! I think he has the right not to show it to you! Who died and made you inspectors of his confidential birth certificate. Evidently, the important legal people have seen it. Oh yeah, I heard MICHELLE BACHMAN saw it today! Ask your girl what she thought about it. I heard she's now backing away from your birther conspiracy mess!

I dont understand the chaos around obama's birth certificate. A very quick and easy way tp verify is his mother's trave; records in 1961..if she visites and stayed in Kenya long enough to deliver her baby there.

@jim; You are absolutely right about one thing in your comment, race sure does come into it! The man is named OBAMA after his KENYAN father. His father came here on his own; he didn't get shipped over here by slave merchants. He was able to hold on to his AFRICAN name and heritage; finished his schooling and went back! The elder OBAMA didn't have to get his name swapped out for a slave name, which is usually EUROPEAN; like the ones most us are living under! What does his name really have to do with it?!?

Barack Obama doesn't owe you clowns any more proof nor explanation than he's already given to the vetting board, and proof that's been presented to you from people who rember and were around when he was born in HAWAII! As far as your 'his name excuse', I'm sure we've voted in presidents, whose fathers and mothers were born in EUROPE, or just somewhere else; did we dare automatically assume that those presidents were born overseas too? Never even was a question! Yes it's his race alright! IT'S THE PRINCIPLE!

Oh you're right! He certainly is not a GENERAL COLIN POWELL, but he's not far from him in the areas of intelligence, wisdom, strategy, thoughtful, and calm! Whenever he's hit a snag and needs advice on a hard decision, he can always ask the General, what would he do. The General, who's an honest to goodness 'Real Abraham Lincoln Republican', offered this to OBAMA during the campaign, if ever he needed it! Furthermore, OMG, Bush was no Eisenhower either, not even a GHW Bush, a Bill Clinton? NO WAY!
