Obama touts Osama killing at Texas fundraiser

EL PASO, Texas (CNN) - On his first campaign stop since U.S. Navy SEALs killed Osama Bin Laden, President Obama told some 750 supporters at a fundraiser  in Austin, Texas that bin Laden is no longer a threat.

"Because of the extraordinary bravery of the men and women who wear this nation’s uniform and the outstanding work of our intelligence agencies, Osama bin Laden will never again threaten the United States of America."

During his remarks someone in the audience shouted: "thank you for getting bin Laden."

Mr. Obama said the successful operation should "inspire us to finish what we started."

The fundraiser followed a border stop in El Paso, the first for President Obama since taking office.

After touring a cargo facility at the Bridge of The Americas Port of Entry, the president touted security improvements and again called for comprehensive immigration reform.

Barry you say "we don’t trot out this stuff as trophies" but you sure will use it for political fund raising. Don't let that spiked foot ball hit you in the face.

Also, when you fly out of TX, look to your left, you can see the burned out communities of TX. Voters live there as well.

Gee, I thought Texas was going to secede after Obama was elected... guess you want those federal funds after all?

You are so right – Obama is either too blind or too stupid to realize the damage he is doing to this nation with his campaign that now brags about getting OBL. I trust the rest of America isn't that stupid – as that mission should never have been anything but the secret mission the military planned it to be. Why the heck this President thought it was ok to brag and put this nation in greater harm, the innocent people of Pakistan in greater harm – who knows. Wake up folks – this man will do anything – including making us all more vulnerable than we ever were – just to get re-elected. How's that working out for this nation to have this man as commander in chief. Not so good – just ask the SEALS who have now had to move their families since Obama seems to think it's ok to meet with them and thank them. Don't you think that information will leak? HELLO – can't you keep your mouth shut to protect the lives of others?

Haters live there too, Jay. The same ones who claimed to want to secede from us; 'we the people'; the ones who claim they loathe BIG GOVERNMENT; they didn't want it nor need it; they can take care of themselves! Well, they may need to rethink their animosities and hate-ridden pronouncements because BIG GOVERNMENT, whomever is PRESIDENT is what is needed to aid in big events and natural disasters such as this! 'Be careful of what you ask for, you might get it'! 'Don't cut off your nose to spight your face'!

OK, we will make the Federal Government a deal. Don't take our tax dollars and we will take care of ourself.

Wow. If the government didn't take my money I would be just fine. I can fend for myself and anything i couldn't do myself I would pay for. I have never asked my government for anything. Stop making it about being hate filled also. just because I don't agree with his policies doesn't make me racist. Loser.

OK, Jay! Good idea for some! See if that's really what TX wants to do. Make sure that's what you want to do too. As for me, I think I'll continue to take my chances paying taxes. When a KATRINA hits GA, I want to be covered by my government with aid and help if I need it. In the mean time I'll just keep paying them so they can help others.

I would think that another-Katrina is exactly why we would not want the Federal Government involved. See how they are handling the flooding on the Miss. River?

Jay in NC you have a deep seeded hate for anything not conservative. Actually the government got bloated during Reagan and Bushes years. I know cause i work for fed govt. By the way, NC is one of those states where Fed gives out more than it takes in.

Are you Liberals really that ignorant? If the citizens did not have to pay the Fed tax they would have the money to fix the problems themselves. No wonder you all voted for Barry. You don't have a clue. You think that the only help would be from the Feds. You see them as your slave master. Yas sir, tells me what to do master Fed.

Barry's administration continues to put the State's citizens in debt. We need a new revolution, we need to cut the ties from the Fed slave master and free out children from these chains of debt.

Where do you think money comes from to buy things? The US Federal government prints the money you use to "fend for yourself". IMHO conservatives do not support the public good. Social Security is law because neither the private sector nor individual state govts were meeting the needs of the elderly and the disabled. Prior to SS the disabled were locked away for life in asylyms and the elderly with no family lived in places called poor houses. Today these people get a govt check they use to purchase basics in our free market system, thus keeping our economy afloat. And, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that that money expended is in someway connected to your source of income. You need to expand your mind and learn that meeting the public need is not anti-American.

Jay, I'm not ignorant one bit. I'm a liberal and I think that you and I are the ones conversing about here. So I'd appreciate you refraining from calling me ignorant, because of my opinion or you can just refrain from talking to me at all AGAIN, OK? You know I'm anything but that! And that's what you hate! I notice you keep throwing your nasty, demeaning remarks at 'liberals'! Check out your 'conservatives'; Republican/TeaParty Poopers are running amuck and talking crazy! Advise them, Jay! Actually you both sound a little off base. Some government is necessary in all states, nations, etc. It's not the idea of government that's bad – it's those running it. Somewhere between the far left and the far right is actually a great place to me – it's just this government is too "proud" and too "fat" on their own standings that they can't find their way there. And, we have no one but ourselves to blame as we put these people there. I highly suggest you ALL realize that the man at the helm is leading is into a point of no return – not just with near communistic approaches to government, but also with his commander in chief ideas that a secret mission is no secret at all and you can use that secret mission to boost your ratings during a campaign time. So, start by getting Obama out of office in 2012, oust those we put into office who have not stood for their/your values and needs, and move on to the next one. As for who is a slave to what. We are all slaves to a government when we let them drive us into bankruptcy; when we allow a president and his administration to brag about the killing of a terrorist leader and by doing so place a much larger target on anyone and everyone that agreed with that decision, when we write on these posts all the things that should and could be done but we don't do them ourselves. Yep Liz – it makes no difference what color we are – we are all controlled by a government that at this very moment – not many people feel is doing a service to the greater majority. As an Independent and a Christian – my belief is that Obama will, if re-elected, allow this nation to self-destruct and he'll be the one to show us just how to do it through his controlling policies that will eliminate many of the freedoms we have as a people. So, while you all are all point fingers and anger at each other – you are doing exactly what he intends for this country – you're fighting and killing the very heart of America. Now – I would ask – are you not smart enough to see that?

      May 17, 2011 at 6:43 am |
      • KatR

Please give us some specifics on the "controlling policies" of our current President. Don't use the health care mandate one though as it's an idea that the GOP proposed back in the 1990s. Give us some concrete evidence that if reelected Obama will cause this nation to "self destruct". All I've heard and seen from Pres. Obama is his desire to unite us all and to save this great country from the destruction caused by the GOP ideology. And all I hear from Obama haters like yourself is that he's bad for our country. So....give us some specifics. What is it that drives your opinion that our President is so awful?

So many things has happen to our country in the last 5 years that make us all very uncertain about just everything. Opinions leads us to saying things we really don't mean to one and other. You know what, we have not really had any of the leaders we have elected in off to actually do anything disspite their promises. They stay and get paid for the years they are in office and get free health care and a pay check for the rest of their lives...tax payer's money at that. We all suffer at the hands of others and we are like puppets on a string, when taxes needs to be raised, or all of he gas and power company want to raise rates on us...we don't even have a say. No wonder the bottom has drop and causisng all of us so much many problems to work, live and support our famiies. I seen so many adults crying and left hurting because we have voted people into office and they have used billions of our dollars while we get nothing or no help. I am now not concerned about republicians or democrats or liberals or teaparty or anyone else; they really don't matter. We as tax payers and citizens here in america need to start thinking and doing a lot about our own future and how we are to make it in the years to come. You can bet on this, without jobs, no revenue can come our cities, without any help for one and other, we don't prove nothing because at this time, everybody is suffering in one way or the other. Not one person can actually tell me what their congressmen or representatives have done for them. those who are in office years after years are not doing nothing for you and me. We have all seen nothing our leaders have done or is doing except talking about bills they introduce to be put into law....years down the road. spending and going into debt is our debts we as tax payers and our children are going to pay, while the congressman and representatives don't pay one cent of their retirement in taxes. They are exempted from doing so. crime is on the rise and we have all seen so much of it because of many reasons; after this administration, what and who will come in and stand up for all of us based on what has happen in the years gone by.....we as americans got a bad deal and we suffer for not have income and help from the government who use our taxes for anything and for anybody...we don't have a say. while my opinion might not make sense, it goes to say that all opinions count for something and I read all of them. Its time we as voting citzens not put people into office that go back on their words and if they do; we should have a right to recall them from that office. I agree with all of the opinions I have read because there is truth in all that everyone say! Let's stop being our elected leaders puppets!

Just in case you have forgotten....a little reminder is in order!!!!!

January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the United States Senate and the House of Representatives.

      At the time:

      * The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77

      * The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%

      * The Unemployment rate was 4.6%

      * George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB CREATION!

      Remember the day...

      * January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.

The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy?

      * BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!!!

Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to regulate Fannie & Freddie—starting in 2001—because their behavior was financially risky for the US economy. Barney Frank said he would rather "roll the dice" on their viability.

THANK YOU DEMOCRATS for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and 4.6% Unemployment... to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from the Democrat Party Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac slush fund fiascos!

And who took the top three highest pay-offs from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac over the period from 1989 to 2008?

      1. Christopher Dodd

      2. Barack Obama

      3. John Kerry

Notice how Barack Obama made it to #2 in two years as a Senator, while both Kerry and Dodd required 20 years to get to their #1 and #3 positions! Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac must have loved them some Barack Obama!

And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie???

      * Frank, Dodd, Obama, and the rest of the Democratic Congress

So when some one tries to blame Bush remember January 3rd, 2007.... the day the Democrats took over Congress! Bush may have been in the car but the Democrats were in charge of the gas pedal and steering wheel: They were driving.

So while George W. Bush has plenty to answer for, he was not the one who set the US economy on the road to ruin. That took putting the Democrats in charge. I think we have now started to see the change that Obama was planning to inflict on the people of the US. It started in 2007 and just keeps getting worse every day. Set the record straight on the Democrat Controlled Congress of 2007 to 2010!

If something is not done, everyone who is poor or middle class will be returning to their hot dogs and beans days. Not Obama though. He will continue to enjoy his taxpayer funded feasts of Wagyu beef and Cape Cod lobster.

It's apparent that you believe that the unregulated govt programs of Fannie and Freddie were the cause of the economic meltdown. My son, who is close to a masters degree in global finance from a top US college, knows the facts. An under regulated PRIVATE financial sector brought America's economy to its knees.....not Democratic ideology. Fannie and Freddie have been around for decades. The GOP had ample power in Congress during many of those decades and could have chosen to dismantle them. But they didn't. By the way....my son calls himself a conservative but he really questions the logic of the GOP ideology these days and he also believes that Obama's calls for infrastructure and getting off oil are necessary. It makes me sad and somewhat angry that there are Americans like yourself who seem so unwilling to carefully evaluate each side of an issue, regardless of your basic ideology.

Why is it all about blame for you people. Dems and Repubs have set this nation on a course of self-destruction. At the moment, the way we can change that is to not look back and to realize that the Change that Obama promised – is not good for America. In fact, 9 out of 10 of his promises have never been kept. Who do you blame for that. I heard him in a speech last week say that he just needs more time on 3 or 4 different hot issues that were his campaign promises. He never addressed those issues the first two years – at all – other than to fight against states who took some of those issues on themselves. So, if you want to blame – look in the mirror and blame the voters – and then, go do something about it. Start at the top and if nothing else changes your mind – think about this – a secret mission is a secret mission – and the commander and chief above all others should honor that. HE DID NOT. He told the world almost immediately that he got bin Laden... Now, unless you're living under a rock somewhere in Ohio – you have to know that those bragging rights he is using on his campaign trail are getting people killed – daily! No one in their right mind does that. No one. This man is no more qualified to be Commander in Chief than I am – and I am certainly not – although I know that a secret mission is one that is never told!

I do not see how your math works out. Clinton added 2 trillion to the debt. President Bush added 4 trillion. Barry has added 4 trillion in only 2 years. So even if you called the 4 trillion debt that we had before Clinton as a conservative debt that would mean that President Bush 4 + 4 = 8 trillion debt. out of 14 trillion total. or 57%. Again the 4 trillion was not all conservative, the country has been in debt from WWII. So conservative debt may equal democrat debt but it certainly is not 80%. Again your math just does not add up. If you want to see the raw numbers try this link.

You are correct about that. Every Republican that is trying to do massive cuts, are the main ones put in a position to beg the President for some help with their state. And they know they better because their constituents will be very angry if they don't. They elect them to be the opponents of the democrats then make them beg when they realize that they are in need of government assistance.
