Obama limo meets its match 'The Beast' met its match Monday in Dublin. One of President Obama’s heavily armored Cadillacs was stuck for more than 15 minutes as it emerged from the U.S. embassy in Dublin Monday.A video posted on YouTube shows the massive limo getting stuck as it emerges from a steep incline out of the embassy and wedged on the curb below. Gasps are heard from the crowd as a secret service agent inspects the car for damage. Security vehicles quickly swooped in to hide the vehicle from public view. The president reportedly watched in a second limo as agents worked to unwedge the the vehicle that replaced the prior presidential limousine when Obama took office in January, 2009. It is designed to withstand numerous hazardous situations - except pavement? UPDATE: The Secret Service has released a statement on the incident:

That is the older Presidential Limo, not The Beast. The Beast has much higher ground clearance, so the agent who pre ran the route might not have had any trouble at all.

You're exactly correct. This wasn't the new limo aka 'the beast" it was an older limo.
That is the beast....the problem is that is extremely heavier than the previous one....this one has an SUV chassis made into a limo....I've been next to it, and it is huge
This limo is not the most current "Beast" frequently utilized by President Obama. The presidential state car shown in the video is a Bush era vehicle based on the 2005 Cadillac DTS.
Actually, it's NOT "The Beast." If you check out pictures from Obama's Inauguration in 2009, you will notice that the limo Obama is in at the Inauguration is different from the limo that gets stuck in the video. The grill is totally different in "The Beast" and yes, it has much higher ground clearance. The limo that gets stuck in the video is one of President Bush's old limos, which are now the backups and carry advisers and other personnel.

That is not the beast. The beast is much bigger. It is built on a GM 6600 Frame and is powered by a duramax diesel.

It sounds like the "Beast" needs a good old-fashioned four or six inch lift kit and some larger tires to keep from getting stuck. Maybe he should've used an armored Suburban or Expedition instead of a Cadillac.
The BEAST should have been equipped or designed with a hydraulic lift of max. lift of about 6-inch in stationary position and in motion whilst maintaining its center-of-gravity (the latter situation being critical) to combat situations like these. Speak of typical American auto engineers lack of forward thinking. They have none. No wonder we fall short every time and have lost our leading edge.

Something does not seem right. The wheels looks like they retracted as soon as it touched the pavement. Are those cars amphibious? or are the shock pnuematic and the pavement broke a compressor line? Seems to me that we just saw an achillies heel in the president car.
FWIW I'd say you are right. I'd say the car's self levelling suspension believed the car had finished climbing a slight incline and it was time to level things out. The rear suspension was extended, the front retracted, and the car then grounds...
remember geo bush car crapted out in italy they had to switch limos right in the middle of town. its on you tube im sure he had to change his underware after that experience

The president's limo is a cadillac body on a gm topkick chassis. That is the chassis used in the largest Uhaul truck, for example. It is likely to have a 6.6l diesel engine or possible the 8.1, with an allison tranny of course.

As a taxpayer I am embarrassed that after paying my share for such an expensive car, it still cannot do the job.
As always we find a way of embarrassing ourselves, even after spending millions.
Retrofit the car and install air bag suspension, so at the push of a bottom you can lift it another 3-5 inches; a proven technology even in the low raiders in L.A.
Install rear wheel steering, so the car can turn in tight spaces while parking.
Or just use a smaller car like other Europeans head of state do.

The Presidential Limo's have a unique air suspension system to handle all of the weight of the car.......if you go back and watch the video it sounds like one of the air bag ruptured dropping the front of the car to the ground........you can tell this by watching the front wheels and the fenders......the wheels go up into the fenderwells.
You would figure a specially designed car as such would have an adjustable suspension (i.e. airbags like those on large trucks that they use to level the load)allowing them to lift it to get over the curb. Amazing oversight.
