The Queen's star-studded bash for Obama The Queen has invited a who's who of celebrities and politicians to attend Tuesday's state dinner at Buckingham Palace in honor of President Obama. The 171-person guest list includes Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Prime Minister David Cameron, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, former Prime Minister Tony Blair, former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Labor Party leader Ed Miliband, Barrister Justine Thornton, Richard Branson, London Mayor Boris Johnson, director Tim Burton, actress Helena Bonham-Carter, actor Kevin Spacey, actress Kristin Chenoweth, actor Tom Hanks, actress Rita Wilson, and historian Dorris Kearns Goodwin. Sitting at the president's table is Mrs. Obama, the Queen and Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla, Clinton, and Cameron. Of course, the Queen and Obama are seated at the head of the large U-shaped table. |

Thankyou Queen Elizabeth, and Prince Phillip for your forsight and seemingly untarnished, unshakeable views of this president and what he has had to withstand as he's been trying hard to stand AMERICA back up on it's feet. It is the G8 summit and State Visit to the U.K. The American President can't cancel these events. If he limited his schedule for tornadoes, then he would not have worked all Spring.

A great show by the royal family and British government to be sure but I can't help but wonder about the code name given our President – it was disrespectful. It could have been changed and I wonder why it wasn't? Playing the British national anthem over our President's toast to the Queen was downright rude. It's not like the orchestra hasn't done state dinners before. I can only hope these were honest mistakes and not subtle "commentary."

Get over yourself, Wow. GW Bush, his father, Ronald Reagan – the whole lot of them – would have posed for a similar picture with the Queen of England if the situation presented itself. President Obama will be in Oklahoma on Sunday. He is far more responsive to Americans in need or in crisis than anyone in the GOP ever was. Overall, he has accomplished more on his watch than many other American presidents. Nice try, though.

Your country is being destroyed by floods and tornadoes, we have yet to fix the debt ceiling issue, and the Prime Minister of Israel is still pretty ticked off. Now that you've had your photo op with the Queen and had your pint of Guinness, please come back home and do your job!
Since when did State visits turn into simply cheesy photo ops? Would you rather the United States not make any State visits?
I wonder if you made the same comments when Bush made state visits abroad during the same wars (Iraq and Afghanistan) ? While the tornados are certainly a tragedy, should the president cancel all of the other visits to our allies and rush home to only be in the way of the rescue and recovery operations in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma?
I distinctly remember people complaining about that very thing when he made a trip to Alabama following the tornados in that state..

So what you are saying is that the president should stop being a president and a representative of the USA to other nations because we have a storm, or have an economic crisis. This is his job, he is doing his job of trying to bring strong partnership and create positive allies that will continue to support the USA economy and in its endeavors. So he should just sit around the white house and sulk because we had a tragic storm.
Did you take off work because the storm hit this week? Did the rest of the USA take work off because of the tragic storm? Did Obama cause the storm? People need to re-evaluate why everything Obama does is wrong because all our former presidents visited other countries as part of their job regardless of tragedy or not, but Obama is wrong for doing just that..Why?

For those that say he is on a vacation, you do not understand that the role of the president is not only head of government but head of state. He is representing the U.S. overseas and has been keeping a rigorous schedule of meetings with foreign leaders. He will be attending the G8 summit this week with the heads of government of the most powerful nations. Yes, the storms in the U.S. have been devastating and tragic, but the American President must continue to represent 24/7 both domestically and internationally.

Don't understand the negative posts...All leaders of countries travel...its diplomatic and keeps us from being isolationists. What do you want the man to do? Hide away in the white house and shun the world? The expenses of that trip were for the most part absorbed by the hosting country as is expected of us when a foreign leader visits. These countries are allies and friends, allies that offered aid during 9/11, aid during Katrina (which was rejected by Bush), etc. The economy is just as bad elsewhere, and yet they still hosted our leaders. It should be appreciated as our leaders are representatives of the american public.
@WOW; When was it that you have ever expected any President to drop everything to come back from an already scheduled 'overseas' DIPLOMATIC trip because of whether-related natural disastors or any other event that's happening back here in the UNITED STATES? Would it make any difference with him sitting in Washington, rather than Buckingham Palace? Aren't the emergency workers and FEMA on their jobs? Or do you expect him to come back, get a hard hat, hop up on a forklift and personally start cleaning up too?
When did we as Americans ever require such double-standard high expectations of ANY American President? The man addressed the event from GREAT BRITAIN, authorized FEMA, a 'BIG GOVERNMENT' agency; one of the ones claimed by 'haters' that needed to be shutdown, to go to work! My sympathy and prayers go out to the families of the lost and lives lost in these recurring 'natural disastors', however, what in the world can OBAMA do about that? Whatever help he sends, none of it can renew those lives. @Wow; BTW, I started trying my wings at socializing too when I was in college. I thought, 'OH! I'm a big girl now, and I'm in college now so I'm going to go out with the 'in crowd' and have fun'. I stepped up from the Kool-Aid to the spirits and wine coolers, but I drank it, I didn't let it drink me. I didn't let fun become my life's ambition! It was a growing up phase in my life that I passed through and let go. I have a 32 year federal employee career and am now retired. I'm a 'baby boomer' of the 40s.
