Obama camp wants $60 million by end of June

(CNN) - He won’t face a Republican opponent for months, but President Obama is aiming to kick the campaign season off with a fundraising bang, asking his top donors to bring in $60 million by the end of June.

The request came in a presentation to heavyweight fundraisers Wednesday in Chicago, according to a source who has seen the presentation. The $60 million cash haul would go both to Obama’s reelection campaign and the Democratic National Committee, and is in line with reports that the Obama campaign is ultimately hoping to raise $1 billion during the upcoming campaign cycle.

June 30 marks the end of the second fundraising quarter: by way of comparison, the Obama campaign raised just over $30 million in the second quarter of 2007. But the eye-popping figure is approximately equal to what the Bush/Cheney campaign raised for its reelection effort in the second quarter of 2003.

Meanwhile, the reelection campaign continues to target small donors, sending out an e-mail solicitation earlier Thursday asking for as little as $5. Like in 2008, the campaign has pledged not to take money from lobbyists or PACs, pledging to do “this the right way.”

The only way Obama can win, buy the election. This guy is a failure in every sense of the word, and one of the biggest hypocrites in history. The only way this failure gets re-elected is if he buys it, and he knows it will take a billion dollars to do that, that's why he has his goal set so high. Sad part is, CNN posters are koolaid drinkers and eat up the empty book called Obama who promises the world and delivers on nothing.

    • here we go again!

Obama has keep his promise on 80% of what he said with no help from "the party of no" go to fact check.com, and buy the elections? thats what republicans do.

      Obama/Biden 2012!

Thank God someone kept this guy somewhat in check. Talk to a small business person and they will tell you why we are so bad off. California is a prime example of where BO and the Dems want this country to go. Also, the auto industry is a prime example. Chrysler is about to sell at a several billion dollar loss to the American people and the Dems say this guy "saved the auto industry". GM should have been let go – contracts could have been re-done and maybe the auto industry would have been saved. Now that the "auto stimulas" is dwindling away so are the auto companies.

President Obama does all the heavy lifting for the American people with no support from the Republicans, it's almost like they aren't citizens of the U.S. and have no track record of supporting all Americans.

    • lolz

That's a little black and white don't you think? Perhaps they aren't supporting him because they don't agree with some of his policies. Its called politics; you make things difficult until the other party caves on things that you think are bad for the country. This happens with both parties and is the way things are done.

I agree that some people don't support the President simply because they don't agree with his policies. But I've truly never seen a more concentrated effort by the opposition party to rally people against a president by putting forth so many lies and incendiary comments, nor have I ever seen an opposition party so firmly determined to defeat a President that they even vote against bills they sponsored. Let's face it – the Republicans have even been willing to destroy us economically if that's what it takes for them to grab power away from Obama.

What a ill-informed comment. This President & his Party has completely botched the Economyt & has not come forward with ANY proposals on the debt save the proposal that he does not agree with the Repubs. He's simply the poster-boy for the term "leadership vacuum" – basically it's his way or he will deamonize you. A sad legacy for one that promised much....

"botched the Economyt & has not come forward with ANY proposals"

botched the economy? People are hiring, the stock market are significantly higher. What world are you living in? Or are you one of those people who believe that if we give the rich bigger tax breaks we can grovel at their feet and hope that they will hire us?

has not come forward with ANY proposals? Who is ill informed? Have you looked at the presidents plan for reducing the debt for 4 trillion over the same time period without cutting medicare? please google and educate yourself. Thanks 🙂

Really????? President Obama botched the economy?? I believe you you are misinformed. That would be former President Bush that botched the economy and put us all in this situation. All Obama has done is inherit the situation. Do I agree with everything the President has done? Absolutely not, however I am bright enough not to live in a state of denial and just pass the blame!!

Umm.. the economy sucked before Obama got it. And if you try and claim it's because of the stimulus package he proposed, why don't you look back to a time when Bush handed out stimulus checks to everyone in the country. What happened with that? Oh yea, no one bought anything. They used it to pay their rents and credit card bills, so the economy kept swirling down the drain. Talk about ill informed. You're both too far removed from the center.

This PRESIDENT and his Demecratic Party have taken on monumental tasks that needed doing for the American people and in the quagmire of the debackle left over by both the 'bush' periods. These American peoples are grateful and will stand with THIS PRESIDENT !!

Let's put the blame where the factual blame lies. President Bush and his cohorts are solely responsible for the poor economy. Rich get richer, poor get poorer und Bushenomics. Without President Obama's wise decisions and influence we would have faced a likely 2nd great depression. I truly believie that President Obama will go down in the history books as one of the greatest Presidents of all time. Thanks for making me want to donate to his campaign!

      • Sorry Willy

The only thing President Obama did wrong was trying to work with the Republicans the first two years. He should of bulldozed everything through the first two years instead of trying to work and compromise with them for true lasting change. The country hopefully will change back to Democratic control in 2012 and get things done!

The Repubicans have done a great job convincing naive people that they have the same "values" as Republicans, all those followers need to wake up. Your pocket book decides if you are a Republican not your "values" . If your pockets aren't full you need to wake up, because the Republicans 1st piroirity is money (their money), not "your values". Your comment much dumber than hers. Pres. Obama sign off of Tax Breaks for the Rich and if pay any attention to people other Repug, you have known Pres. Obama campaign against it. He was for Public Option but did not fight for it in the health care bill but took many repug amendments. Pres. Obama was against more drilling but we are drilling and pumping more oil in the pass couple of years than in decades. i am an independent and one of the reasons i will not be voting for this president (unless repug give me a stupid choice like Barbie) is because he has to not stuck to the proposal he campaign on but has leaned more right than in the middle. Repug took over the house and governorship in 2010 and what have they done to create jobs other than tax cut for the rich and companies and going after union workers, teachers and medicare???? The Rich are doing well, why are repub going after the poor and middle class. We did not most of the problem, why are paying all the price. For God Sake, why should the debt be paid of on the backs of the poor and middle while repug still want tax breaks for the rich. I don't understand.

what nonsense it's the repubs that made a mess and are still trying to do so. Do you expect the ecnomy to improve in 2 or 4 years? What needs to happens is the repubs need to think of what's best for the country. Entitlements, if you paid into some thing for 20 or more years you'll expect to get what you were told it's for. SS and Medicare money should not be used for other things. Let the rich not take entitlements, instead of transferring their riches so they can use the government for assistance. And by the way the republicans should insist that their health care be cut and they be made to ay more out of pocket and what's this that once you serve a term yo're covered for life. Let's get real and forget party affiliation and fo the right thing.

His party. The economy was in the trash before he even got elected. Why can't people tell the truth?? Look at it. When a president wants to give married couples $1200 dollars to try and boost the economy and we bought it hook line and sinker and it was all to cover up the stealing of retirement funds and to line the republicans pockets because they knew they would NOT get re-elected. Democrarts aren't much smarter. So where does that leave us the American people. Well I say lets just fire them all, put them on SS plan and Medicad and make them work full time for any benefits.

Now you are the one with the misstatements. The party of no(retards) are the ones doing the damage. Where are the jobs they promised? Remember Mitch saying we will get the jobs back when we are elected. They made all who voted for them wait two years by saying this crap. They u fools elected them and what did they do. You do realize that Obama's policies ended the Great Recession in 2009 right? Do you also realize that it's almost been 2 years of straight positive GDP growth too right? You do realize that Obama policies have created more jobs than Bush/GOP did in their 8 years of tax-cuts and deregulation for the rich right? And do you also realize that taxes under Obama are lower than they were under Bush/GOP right? So where's your "evidence" for Obama's so-called failures?

        June 2, 2011 at 2:24 pm |

bobcat and Willy4 are obviously inbred and retarded. This president has done a great job fixing what Bush destroyed in 8 years stealing from all of us thanks to incredible idiots like yourself. If you're so blinded by hate that you now hate even this great country we live in by deciding to be ignorant, worthless fools like many of the Republicans and those in Fox news, you don't belong in this country. The rest of us want to restore what was certainly and unmistakably corrupted by 8 years of Bush and company. It's unbelievable how stupid one can become just due to hate and anger.

And Willy4... with your assassination talk–it's easy to see for all of us, and perhaps one day from you, your foolishness in wishing that the American president be assassinated. This alone shows how much you simply HATE and HATE the U.S.. If you can't realize and try to change it please get the hell out of this country–you are what is bringing it down from the inside.

marley – wow. you ate it all up and think that one side is gold and the other is crap. funny, i think we're at our best when we work together, not tear each other apart. i can also cite obama creating jobs in arizona districts that didn't exist. how did that happen? i also see a double dip in homes and $4 gas prices – i'm sure you squeeled like a pig when it was that way under bush. you do realize we're about to hit a serious recession because china pretty much owns us, right? and that's not one presidents fault but us as americans for letting poltiicans sell out our country for special interests.

        grow up.

Sorry he was too late to botch the economy that had been handled very nicely by 8 years of mismanagement. A president who came into office and took on fighting two unfunded wars, put in place a drug benefit (also unfunded) with no dickering allowed on the price that seniors would pay for those drugs...believe me a senior cannot even use a discount coupon for a medication under the part D medicare drug plan. That might cut the profit that big pharm would make on the prescription, and then turned around and gave big tax breaks to his rich friends....Thank you very much but the current president did not put the economy in the ditch.

First off the recession is not truely over, just ask the millions still unemployed. He has exasperated the problems not helped them. Bush was bad, Obama has been worse.
DAVE: your comment is stupid Corps give as much money to Dems as they do to the Republicans look it up. Goldman, GE. BP all are heavy donators to the Obama train.
We need to remove this very inexperienced President from office come election time. Perhaps give him 3-4 years in the real world business environment to learn what needs to be done. He is an excellent speaker who won the election because he got Americans to believe he was running against another Bush. Funny, he comes away looking more like Bush than bush did.

Oh my god,his policies never ended any recession. There has been no job growth whatsoever. He has not done one positive thing for this country at all.He is no different than the republicans before him.He looks out for himself. And now he is in campaign mode,so,he's pretty much done with anything but trying to get re-elaected.I voted for Obama in 08.I will not make that same mistake again.I just wish a good Independent would run against him.The powers that be(the big corporations, oil companies, the international banking system and the Federal Reserve and the Bilderberg group) want Obama re-elected.He does there biding just as well as any president has for the last 50 years. So,because of that alone he will be hard to beat.He does not care about the American people anymore than Bush or Clinton did.

Ended the recession of 2009, are you freaking serious? There are 25 million unemployed Americans and has been for the entirety of Obama's reign of terror, most States have double digit unemployment, we have a 14.4 trillion dollar debt, still no budget, an Obamacare bureaucratic nightmare and Obama's policies for Green Energy with appointment of the Green czar Nazis continuing to cripple most manufacturing industries. Lest we forget the Demowits center piece of "Social Justus" Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac destroying the housing industry...end the recession of 2009, these idiots have set the stage for the total collapse and if you don't see it, you probably got one of those expanded government tax funded things THEY think is a job.

Talk about an ill-informed comment. Do you realize that it was in fact Bush who has completely botched the U.S. economy. Bush inherited a surplus economy, which is something that we hadn't seen in nearly 30 years at that time. Within six month of taking office, Bush turned that surplus into a record-breaking deficit. By the end of his presidency, Bush collected more debt than all president before him combined. During that time, Bush asked for, and received by congress, an increase in the debt ceiling FIVE times. How can you say that Republican's are trying to work with the president? Since the day he has taken office the GOP's official stance has been to get Obama out of the White House in 2012. Not to improve the country and solve problems, but to make our president's job difficult by opposing him at every turn. They first wait to see what Obama's position on a particular issue is and then oppose it. This current batch of Republicans has made a bad situation worse with this strategy. They don't represent all American's, just the one's like them: upper-middle class Christians.

Obama hasn't done anything but put a big bandaid on things made out of borrowed money. Take a look back over the last eight years. None of this is Bush's fault as the Democrats had majority and stopped him from fixing the economy. Obama said he was going to fix NAFTA that was created by DEMOCRAT Cllinton. He hasn't done anything about it. He hasn't done anything about the high oil prices. Is he really for the American people or is he working under the table for the Mideast? Creats jobs for minimum wage and it takes a paycheck to buy gas to make it! I voted for Obama but I will NOT next year.

Before all of you liberal internet heroes jump up and start yelling "FOUL!!!", name one of Bush's policies that Obama cancelled, ended, terminated, etc....I heard on CNN when Obama started blaming Bush for the bad economy, back during his (Obama's) first year, that there was a period of time during Bush's two terms where there was 54 consecutive months of growth. Remember when the corporations got caught cheating on Bush's watch? You know, Enron and Worldcom? Laws were passed and CEOs were arrested. What new laws and which CEOs were arrested under Obama?

To blame Obama for something that was shot before he took office is just another ploy by republicans who think the rest of America has forgotten the war caused by Bush over lies that costs 3 billion dollars a month. You know the one that got him a crimes against humanity warrant issued for his arrest. Oh yeah and let's talk about the 3 billion dollars that was spent to repeal health care even though the Republicans knew it wouldn't work but went ahead anyway. So while you are talking out of the side of your neck let the truth be known. You are an idiot and so is the rest of the puppets that keep saying it's Obama's fault. Reality Check!!!!!

MEMO#1: Yes, the Great Recession of 2008 ended in 2009.
MEMO#2: Yes, it's almost 2 years of straight POSITIVE GDP GROWTH.
MEMO#3: Yes, Obama has created MORE JOBS in less than 2 years than Bush/GOP's trickle-down economic policies. Even Bush's economic advisers warned him that his policies would fail.

So, what part of POSITIVE GDP GROWTH for almost 2 straight years and counting do you not understand? That means JOBS are being created!!!

The current UNEMPLOYMENT RATE is due to the GREAT RECESSION of 2008 created by Bush/GOP failed economic policies. If you are claiming that the second Obama took the oath of office that the rising UNEMPLOYMENT RATE was his fault you are clearly not an objective person.

If lets say the UNEMPLOYMENT RATE was decreasing but then restarted increasing after Obama's policies had taken place, then you might have a case that Obama's economic policies are not working. But that just isn't the case.

JOBS ARE INCREASING which means more people searching for JOBS, which means more reports of people who need jobs.

The Republicans know full well there is nothing besides another STIMULUS PACKAGE that can help accelerate job growth. Why do you think they have ZERO IDEAS to accelerate job growth?

You want faster job growth, blame the Republicans for not supporting another stimulus package and poisoning people's minds with their failed ideological politics.

        June 2, 2011 at 4:51 pm |
      • JasonB

Yeah. Recession is over. Recession is a period without economic growth. Unemployment may be high, we know it is, and it sucks, but the economy is growing, albeit slowly. Though, I would like to remind those who blame the state of the economy on Obama, in addition to what a wrote above, that when you accuse him of spending, don't forget that the great financial bailout was not Obama's doing. That's was Bush's proposal and it was approved by congress during his time as president, making him the president that spent more and plunged this nation further into debt than any and all presidents that have come before him combined.

Yes it's worked so well we still have people all over without jobs and a 2nd housing drop this summer. We are worse now then when Obama came in then we were before.

You don't know what you are talking about.

The economy can get worse even as GDP goes up – GDP went up mostly because of Quantitative Easing – if you look at the economy before and after QE in constant dollars, there was zero growth. GDP is a poor measure in this case.

Jobs have not been created, period. The currently unemployment rate actually leaves out millions of Americans – the actual number is from 16-20% unemployment – this is horrendous.

      • Marly is an idiot

Marly, the recession started thanks to the Democrats forcing banks to write mortgages to anyone with a pulse. Once the housing market collapsed, the economy went down the tubes. Obama hasn't done the first thing to turn this country around...he's done nothing but travel the world with is dog-ugly wife and their 254 personal servants on our tax dollar. He will NEVER be re-elected, unless of course misguided idiots like yourself vote for him. If it wasn't for Ophra endorsing him, this inexperienced, over promising liar wouldn't have stood a chance.

      • Philmore Payne

        Marley –

You are correct in your basic facts. What you fail to point out though, is that when you hit the bottom, there is no way to go but up. After a heavy hitting recession (a spiked one, not a prolonged one), GDP growth is not hard to fathom for the period of time thereafter. In fact, if things were going right, the GDP growth would be more pronounced (lower denominator, thus higher % growth). While I would agree that the recession ended, it did not end in 2009, it ended in 2010 - companies were still being shell shocked throughout 2009, so it is a fallacy to say the opposite. Second comment on the recession topic is that while I believe the recession has ended, don't begin to think that we are in positive attribute land. There are still massive, massive problems with the economy, including but not limited to the dead in the water housing market, massive overspending on programs that do not have good returns, misallocation of funds, and the joke that is the federal reserve (too much debt, keep piling it on, increasing the ceiling, and buying treasuries back to keep it afloat). The jobs creation thing is a joke as well, similar to the GDP growth. When you lose as many jobs as we did as a country and the recession tides calm, you of course are going to have job growth. It's the veracity of the jobs growth that matters, which has not been good (see report that came out today about slowing job growth in May). Also, some of the job growth metrics are not appropriately calculated, as they take into consideration part-time, contract, and temporary employment features, which we should all be able to agree do not necessarily make it a healthy job environment (need to look at FTE job growth that carries benefits).

All in all, I think we can all agree that we have had a pretty crappy presidency for the last 13 years (yes, some years were Clinton's doing, as we can all agree his policies on everyone getting a mortgage led to the disaster that was the housing market and the impending economic recession due to loose regulations on what financial institutions can do).

      • UrAllWrong

Recession is NOT over. Bush policy did not cause problems. Bush just was in charge when it happened. Clinton was responsible for the demise of Glass Steigel and that is what caused the problem. Dems were also responsible for letting Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac get out of control. Dems also responsible for mandating easier qualifications for home loans. Reps are to blame also, but the major damage was Barney Frank & Chris Dodd leading the way for FNMA / FHLMC to lend to people who should not be buying homes and the repeal of Glass Steigel which was put in place after the Great Depression to prevent it from happening again.

Marley- Are you Bob or Ziggy and please pass the ganja you are smoking, the economy is in the tank dude now matter how many times you quote GDP or job creation, remember Obama's 20% expansion of Federal employee's being counted as jobs? What jobs has Obama created? He has crushed gas and oil, the housing market is Kaput, the corporate tax rate and EPA mandates have led to our Corporations fleeing the Nation in mass exodus, so where are the jobs?

The Government "jobs" are tax funded liabilities, they do not create commerce, they typically hinder commerce, and I personally do not count McDonalds burger flippers as jobs. Come 2012 Obama wont be able to give it away on 2nd Avenue, he is shattered, titter tattered!

Where do you get your stats from?

Remember how Republicans were claiming jobs were decreasing, when in fact it was the decrease in GOVERNMENT JOBS that was bringing the overall jobs number down! Private sector jobs are steadily increasing while gov't public jobs are decreasing.

Hyprocrisy I tell you! Republicans complaining about the federal gov't cutting gov't jobs! LMAO!

If you think more tax-cuts for the rich is going to magically train the lowly educated folks so that they can find jobs in the high-tech industry, you are clearly delusional.

The majority of those who are still unemployed are lowly educated and unskilled individuals. But its funny how you are here complaining about how Obama is not doing enough to provide jobs for these lower class individuals!

If Obama could somehow create more jobs for these lower class folks you would accuse Obama of being a jobs socialist! LMAO!

You have absolutely no evidence to support your claim that Obama has screwed up the economy.

If you have any political knowledge, you can clearly see the Republican Party is trying to somehow steal credit away from Obama/Dems for the economic recovery. The Republicans are trying to argue that their stance to "reduce gov't spending" is the reason the economy has recovered when in effect Obama had already commisioned a DEBT REDUCTION committee over a year ago.

If you know anything about Keynesian economics, you know that it calls for DEBT REDUCTION once the economy is strong again. Keynesian economics also calls for higher taxes too, otherwise INFLATION will skyrocket and cause another recession.

But you I assumed you knew all of this already too huh?

Marley- Where to begin...have you looked at Florida, you think the unemployed are comprised of lower educated people? You are sadly mistaken, I have an advanced degree in engineering and have been looking for a job for three years. The engineering jobs that come open are getting hundreds of applications, the last one that I interviewed for there were 600 applicants for an entry level position. There were not tax cuts for the rich, they simply maintained the existing tax rate, people that make the kind of money that falls in the higher brackets hire tax lawyers, CPA's and financial planners to shelter their earnings, that won't ever change and I bet if you look real close you might even find some of your Democrats (Geithner, Kerry, Obama, Gates, Buffet et al) doing exactly that. Inflation is caused from over liquidity in the economy, too much paper, it becomes worthless and loses it s value, the Fed combats that with interest rates. That is what we are seeing now, too much worhtless paper pumped into the economy, the dollar loses its value therefore prices go up. The adjusts the interest rates go up so when you pay for that loan, they get a surplus back and take it out of circulation...taxation does nothing except make people sit on their cash and look for ways around it.
The oil subsidies are the same subsidies that every US corporation can apply for, they are not Oil Company specific and the Fed cannot cherry pick who can and who cannot get a legally defined tax subsidy. Ethanol costs more to make than it can be sold for and therefore in the Governments infinite wisdom must subsidize the industry to make it affordable to the public in their attempt to make the motions of alternative fuel sources.

@Monsterzero – oh a fellow Floridian..?? Please don't poke at the Prez when we can totally blame the Dick in the governor's office right here in the ole Sunshine State. You want to blame someone for not getting an engineering job? Hmmm probably coulda had something REAL good had Dick not given away our speed train money – oh which we voted FOR! Let's see, he also proposed getting rid of business taxes altogether (or this is in the works I think), reduced unemployment benefits for people who lost jobs, increased the budget of his office while speaking so eloquently about reducing government (whuuut?), lowering property taxes, lowering the education budget (oh so we can just create more unskilled uneducated people who can't find work), and didn't want any federal stimulus monies. And he wants to be just like the governor in Texas & all the other newly republican governors are doing the same thing. But here it's totally laughable since we don't have a state income tax and he doesn't want federal money, oh he wants to privatize medicaid..? ummm hello, where's all the money going to come from? tourism? Oh wait I know! The revenue generated from the new $5 million dollar crewing park in Sarasota will save us all! Jezuz! get a clue! Our Prez is just a nice guy & wants everyone to get along, the problem is the republicans are just acting like the big bullies in the sandbox & it really should stop. ALL the government needs to represent ALL the people, not just the ones with the great free health insurance and killer SS benefits & the ones with the biggest wallets.

Just because inaccurate statistics claim that we're out of the recession, doesn't make it so. Have you been out in the real world lately? Jobs are still extremely hard to find. The housing market is still crap. Inflation is going through the roof. A record number of American citizens are on food stamps. How about taking a look around instead of getting all your info. from biased media outlets. Sure, we've added jobs, but they've been low-paying service industry jobs, like McDonald's, which nobody could ever make a living on. So yeah, Go Obama. Everyone with college degrees who once made 70k a year wants to flip burgers for a living. He's hardly a saint by any means.

        June 2, 2011 at 10:31 pm |
      • Marley

        Where do I begin. LMAO!

        1. Gates and Buffet are REPUBLICANS! Gates respects Obama enough to stay on the job.

        2. So you are angry that there 599 more qualified people for the same job you applied for?! LMAO!

Looks like it is YOU who who wants a hand-out! It's called JOB COMPETITION! LMAO!

The days of staying in one place with a secure job for a life-time are long gone. How the heck are you going to magically create enough companies to hire 600 applicants?

If you can't find a job in your city or state, then it's time to RELOCATE! They don't call it the GLOBAL ECONOMY for no good reason!

Otherwise, go upgrade your training and education and/or switch fields!

        3. Your understanding of INFLATION is simplistic and incomplete.

You think because the interest rate is currently low that Obama is purposely doing it to screw up the economy right? Because you think Obama is printing worthless paper right? LMAO!

        Your understanding is FLAWED.

You also do know that Obama also inherited the interest rate from Bush's tenure as President right?

The Fed Reserve is a non-partisan independent institution that sets the interest rate based on economic conditions, and thus controls how much "paper money" to print.

When the fed reserve decides to keep interest rates low, it must find some kind of asset to backup the paper money it is printing. Otherwise the paper money is worth less.

This is where the Administration comes in. The Administration must find assets to backup of the paper money.

So where did the Obama Administration authorize the Feds to get the assets to back-up the money it printed? ANS: The Bank of China.

Because of the trillions of dollars of wealth lost during the Great Recession, the federal reserve under Obama's watch had to borrow money from the Bank of China again so that there was enough money in the US economy to keep the interest rates low so that companies and small business could rebuild ... and create new jobs!

As I stated already, Obama inherited the low interest rate from Bush. So how did Bush decide to back-up the low interest rate under his watch?

        1. Bush also authorized borrowing from the Bank of China.

        2. But the bigger assets came from the IRAQ WAR! Why do you think the IRAQ WAR was a STIMULUS PLAN? What better asset then OIL and construction of new infrastructure in Iraq?!

The BIGGER FACTOR affecting inflation is DEMAND-and-SUPPLY. If there is more demand then supply, that leads to inflation.

Inappropriately LOW taxes gives people more money to spend => INCREASES DEMAND

But INAPPROPRIATELY LOW taxes also gives businesses less incentives to increase SUPPLY.

On top of that, low taxes and deregulation favors BIG COMPANIES. So the big companies get richer and squeeze out the little companies => LESS COMPETITION => DECREASE SUPPLY

So if you are trying to accuse Obama of printing worthless paper money, you are clearly not an objective person or simply not knowledgeable enough about economics.

        4. Stop watching FOX NEWS! All your talking points are from that show! LMAO!

Obama is not a IDEOLOGICAL politician like most the Republicans. Obama is pragmatic. He basis his decisions on knowledge and facts and chooses the best option. This is a complete opposite of Republicans like Bush who will for no good reason cut taxes for everyone even if his advisors tell him it will hurt the economy.

Once again, if you objectively understand the facts and have enough knowledge of how things work, you can clearly see that Obama has saved this country from the brink of disaster!

Obama has spent more American tax money in the first two years of his Presidency, than all the Presidents before him, COMBINED !!! ... and, he still is pushing to spend TRILLIONS more !!!

Here are just a few examples of how Obama is ruining our economy:

2009 GAS $1.83 per gallon TODAY $4.00 + per gallon
        2009 SOYBEANS $9.66 TODAY $13.75
        2009 SUGAR $$13.37 TODAY $35.39
        2009 UNEMPLOYMENT RATE BLACKS 12.6% TODAY 15.8%
2009 NUMBER OF LONG TERM UNEMPLOYED 2,600,000 TODAY 6,400,000
        2009 PEOPLE IN POVERTY IN U.S. 39,800,000 TODAY 43,600,000
2009 NATIONAL DEBT IN TRILLIONS $10,627 TODAY $14,052

Just take this last item: In the last two years we have accumulated national debt at a rate more than 27 times as fast as during the rest of our entire nation's history. Over 27 times as fast! Metaphorically, speaking, if you are driving in the right lane doing 65 MPH and a car rockets past you in the left lane 27 times faster . . . it would be doing 1,755 MPH! This is a disaster!

        (1) U.S. Energy Information Administration; (2) Wall Street Journal; (3) Bureau of Labor Statistics; (4) Census Bureau; (5) USDA; (6) U.S. Dept. of Labor; (7) FHFA; (8) Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller; (9) RealtyTrac; (10) Heritage Foundation and WSJ; (11) The Conference Board; (12) FDIC; (13) Federal Reserve; (14) U.S. Treasury

        DUMP OBAMA IN 2012 !!!

Inferring that the President should be assasinated (like JFK) is a pretty stupid comment and might get you unwanted attention from the Secret Service. It's okay to hate the President, but he is still a human being. I hated Bush's guts but never wished him any harm. If you can't control yourself, stay off the Internet.

You're a complete idiot and deserving of anything that comes your way. Hopefully you can sit behind some bars and have plenty of time to think about your hate language while the President (regardless of who he/she is) moves this country to the next chapter.

I agree with Bobcat, this country would be better off if Obama was assassinated, well except for the fact Biden would fill the gap. Bobcat, please don't post comments like this ever again. You give those of us conservatives who are trying to make him a one term President a bad name.
This President is bad enough on his own and doesn't need the likes of you to rally the imbeciles who continue to support him.
Mr. Obama will be the cause of his own undoing. His policies border on Socialism, his tactics are more criminal that his predecessor, and his vision for America's future seems to be to run it into the ground until it is completely bankrupt.
Don't be mistaken that those of us who dislike your comment wish for another term for Mr. Obama because many of us don't, but we also don't wish to perpetuate the hate that liberals spewed for 8 years during the Bush term then seem to completely forget what they did now that "their" man is in the White House.
Look up hypocrite in the dictionary and you'll simply see the term LIBERAL DEMOCRAT.

Please CNN, please track this fool down and report him to the Secret Service, this person is a legitimate menace to society.

I don't have a problem with people engaging in rational discourse, however, to even suggest this type of act is truly a disgrace and should be dealt with. You may not agree with the politics and/or policies of a President, but to even suggest this is ridiculous.

And who's going to be the first one to talk about freedom of speech?

It's time to wake up, bobcat. The fact is that Obama has changed VERY VERY little from when George W. Bush Jr. was in office, and the things that he did change damned well NEEDED to be changed because the status quo was bad.

TARP was necessary (though I wish that some of the companies who got into trouble had been allowed to go out of business, because bailing them out was socializing risk and privatizing profits).
The ban on new oil rigs was necessary after the accident in the Gulf of Mexico, until these companies tested their BOP's and made sure that they were able to seal no matter what the circumstances in case of accident.
I could keep on going, but I think you get the point.

I'm not saying anything about Dems or Reps, I think McCain would have done the same thing, and I think Romney will do fine if elected. Big Nut- You are right, Obama got handed a pile from a compilation of the past 40 years of political malfeasance, nearly all of them did their little part in making the poop pie. He then took that pile and turned it into a mountain that we will take years to dig out of thinking that as the system collapses America would be ready for what the 1960's generation liberal left sees as a New American Socialistic Society....it will NEVER happen in America.

Obama applied for the position of President of the U.S. If he didn't want to take the responsibility that came with that position he shouldn't have run for office.
If he thought he could blame Bush for 4 straight years while continuing the decline in American values he has another thing coming.
I suggest if Obama doesn't want to take on the resonsibility that comes with the job he should consider a different career path, might I suggest something out of the public sector? I hear McDonald's is always hiring.

President Obama KNEW the state of the USA when he ran for office. If he didn't know – he should have. Why did he make so many promises then take over Bush's policies once he was in? I ask an honest question here. I am not American. But speaking as an outsider I would say the American people were well taken for a ride – big time.

I swear, Monster Zero is NUTS! The fact is that Obama has done a very good job of getting things better in this country. Yes, we are now heading towards ANOTHER group of trouble in the near future, but the fact is that was coming Obama or no Obama. It's also likely to be LESS severe under Obama if the Republicans get their butts out of his way and allow him to do what needs to be done to fix those problems, such as putting back into place regulation that was taken off the companies while Bush was in office (biggest mistake in history there).

Funny stuff. The only heavy lifting this guy does is for his golf clubs (over 70 tounds and counting), his wallet to collect checks for fund raising and maybe his kids travel bags for all the vacations he takes with the family. Airforce One has become their personal vacation plane. He has added zero jobs in his presidency. See, what you do is move 5 million people from the unemployment roles to unemployable and claim you reduced unemployment. Please, the economy is a train wreck, housing is getting worse and small businesses won't hire becasue of all the uncertainty and regulations put in place by this incompetent. Just take a look when the economy started to tank, which was when the Senate and House went to the Dems. Unfortuantley Bush did not veto anything, that was his fault.

They only care for the rich.

Where have you been. The democrats have been the majority in Congress for quite sometime. That is the time when the democrats should have done something positive. I get tired of hearing Obama's party saying they know catastrophe is going to happen if the ceiling does not get raise. And yet that party could have done something about the budget. Now that Obama's group has created a budget problem for America, he wants money for his campaign or whatever. He is thinking only of himself and his popularity. Instead of trying to take care of a problem, they point their little fingers at the other party. Just like a child who tells mommy that sibling has done something wrong without trying to develop a solution.

    • Dave

Does anyone here know what caused the Great Recession – it was not GWB although I did find him to be an ineffective POTUS who was the busdriver of a bus destined to crash.
1 – Community Reinvestment Act and Housing Laws which gave housing to people with no money down. The banks were forced to do this by Barney Frank and the Congressional Black Causus. The same crew who said Fannie and Freddie were in great shape (I will give GWB credit here for warning about this problem but a smack across the head for doing nothing). When the market drops why should someone with no money invested and a history of poor credit be expected to pay their loans off. The evil banks made them buy that house. BLAME – DEMS and Bill Clinton
2 – Changes to Finance Laws or the repeal of provisions of the Glass–Steagall Act of 1933 by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley (they were all republicans by the way) Act. This effectively removed the separation that previously existed between Wall Street investment banks and depository banks thus allowing banks to gamble with their depositor's money. It created monster financial companies that were too bid to fail. BLAME – Republicans
3 – Derivatives – This is just a form of financial betting without controls. Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 (CFMA) officially ensured the deregulation of financial products known as derivatives. It clarified the law so that most over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives transactions between “sophisticated parties” would not be regulated as “futures” under the Commodity Exchange Act of 1936 (CEA) or as “securities” under the federal securities laws. Instead, the major dealers of those products (banks and securities firms) would continue to have their dealings in OTC derivatives supervised by their federal regulators under general “safety and soundness” standards. The Goldman Sacs bunch were key players here including Robert Rubin. BLAME – Clinton / Greenspan / DEMS
4 – The Bush Administration just gutted the regulatory apparatus, particularly the SEC resulting in very little oversight while the word of Alan Greenspan was gospel. This made derivative and hedgefund trading a ticking time bomb. BLAME – Bush & Greenspan

So Obama inherits this mess and what does he do. He is Jimmy Carter on steriods.
1 – Spend like a drunken sailor – Fed spending is now over 40% of the GDP vs 34% during GWB, this has nothing to do with taxes. It's spending more than we can afford. We are running the Fed like it's Chicago. No one knows where the money is going.
2 – GM was saved – yes he stole $ from the bond holders and gave it to the unions – seems like something Hugo Chavez would do.
3 – Create another welfare state based on healthcare when the socialist countries of Europe are looking how to reform this type of mess. They want privatization and we want another bloated government bureaucracy. Good to control the masses.
4 – He apologizes about the USA every chance he gets and the Arab Spring will be a disaster when it makes a whole bunch of Irans. Good move let's have Sharia law here too.

WE NEED TO GET RID of Obama (the POTUS is not suited for a community organizer), I cannot understand how people cannot see thru this guy. He is a classic liberal controlled or strongly influenced by someone (Soros?)

We don't ever need another Bush (2 of them were plenty). Please not Jeb, I can't take anymore.

Someone decent step to the plate!

      June 2, 2011 at 7:31 pm |

Heavy lifting? He does not even carry his own golf bag and I don't consider his golf ball very heavy.

      June 2, 2011 at 7:44 pm |
    • Jon, Virginia

What is truly humorous is how each side blames the other. We are in this mess because of failed policies on each side. The Congress always has the lowest ratings but we blame the President for much because he either fails to show leadership by just being "Present" or pushes for crazy things like bombing Libya, for what? Our nation is so divided and polarized that we'll never get anything accomplished. We all agree the economy is in a world of hurt but nobody wants to see their federal crack allotment denied them. Raise taxes say some only to hear how it should only be the rich. Class warfare pitting the rich against the poor middle class. Our nation is headed for ruin on the shoulders of our kids because we as a nation can't come together to make the hard decisions and it all starts at the White House and Congress.

      June 2, 2011 at 8:50 pm |
      • Leria

The only ignorant moron here is you, rs1201. The fact is that Obama has changed so damned little from when George W. Bush Jr. was in office that if you are saying that he ruined the economy, you are basically saying that the policies of the Republicans and George W. Bush Jr. ruined the economy!

That is the one thing that I have to get on Obama's case about: he hasn't changed a LOT of things from the Bush Jr. days that he should have changed, but with the Republicans and Blue Dogs blocking him at every turn I can understand why he has been unable to do that.

Young people, , like to promote the idea that older people have the worst answers, and are responsible for all the problems in the world. Wise men say, the more you learn, the more you realize how much you don't know ... but, the legions of brain washed young Obama supporters think they already know everything ... even though these impressionable young fools have never had to build a business, meet a payroll, support a family, or serve their country. These new self proclaimed instant geniuses would have us believe that the experience and conventional wisdom of older folks is worthless ... and, instead, we should blindly follow them. This convoluted attempt to demand respect, without earning it first, explains why an empty suit like Obama can con so many young people, and even get the Nobel Prize, without having achieved any notable accomplishments. The disastrous result of handing the reins of power over to an inexperienced fool, is already evident, as we watch Obama destroy our economy, and throw our allies under the bus.

      • Marley

You do realize that it has been almost 2 years of straight positive GDP growth due to Obama's policies right?

You do realize that Republicans now control the House to right?

So if you are still complaining about not enough jobs then who's fault is it? What plans have Republicans put forth to "create" more jobs when the Republicans don't believe the gov't is responsible for creating jobs? More tax-cuts for the rich and pray that trickle-down-economics will finally work for the first time in history?

The only way to create more jobs is for the gov't to invest in new industries and education/training for people to work in these new industries. That takes tax-dollars to do. And that takes time.

Tax-cuts for the rich will not create new industries or train new people to work in these industries.

      • Monster Zero

Marley-You realize the Democrats still control the Senate and Executive branches right? The House can legislate, the Senate can amend and the President can veto...25 million unemployed with the majority of employed being by government on tax funded payrolls...figure it out. Taxing is not the answer to balancing the budget nor for getting our economy back into the swing of things. It will take a plan of probably all of the above to set things right, how about a 25% straight tax on all tax funded payrolls? Just think, all those that have been licking the spoon during all of this can put some beans back in the pot for the betterment of our Nation.

      • SIxoh

Marely – The gov't does not create jobs. AT ALL! There's no other way I can say it, even tho' I'm trying to 'splain that to you children of your mother government.

        June 2, 2011 at 3:24 pm |
      • Marley

The gov't isn't need to create jobs at all?

Is that why the gov't subsidies the OIL and ETHANOL industries?

Is that why the gov't bailed out the auto industry saving millions of jobs?

Is that why the gov't spends billions each year on the military and its wars? The IRAQ WAR was a STIMULUS PLAN by Bush/GOP. It worked for about 2-3 years.

Where do you think the research and innovation that created all of this technology that fuels the modern economy came from? Where did the Internet come from? Where did these satellites come from? etc ...

Why do you think the GOP likes spending money on the military? It's the greatest form of STIMULUS but the average American is not smart enough to understand it.

Where and how do you create and pay for the training that is necessary to train people with high-school degrees or community college degrees to work in these new jobs created by these new industries?

Do these people just magically become qualify to work? You really think corporations have money to train unskilled workers to become technologically skilled?

Get a clue folks! Those factory jobs that have gone to China and India are not coming back.

There are plenty of jobs in the high-tech industries, but these companies are hiring mostly FOREIGN TRAINED AND EDUCATED PEOPLE.

The majority of the folks who do not have jobs right now are the lower educated folks and those who are educated in a field that has no financial future.

      • Jimmy

@ Marley: Ok, I saw you say the same thing in a comment above. 2 straight years of GDP growth–so what? Our country's economy is still in the toilet. Our armed forces are still in the Middle East–Obama hasn't brought them home, so he obviously supports "Bush's war". Record numbers of Americans on food stamps. Tent cities popping up all over the country because people can't pay the rent. Wonder where all those foreclosure signs came from? All this and record debt to boot. I suppose you're another one of those people that thinks Obama took care of Bin Laden all by himself too.

        June 2, 2011 at 10:48 pm |
    • Onebrother

Funny how no one seemed to be monitoring spending when Bush spent from a surplus INTO DEFICIT and no one made any complaints about "too big gov't" or the constitution when our rights as citizens (and some of us VETERANS) when the Patriot Act was being passed. If the president is a "gangster," does that make the Republican Congress MOBSTERS for collecting fat paychecks for showing up to work and filibustering everything?

      June 2, 2011 at 3:12 pm |

    June 2, 2011 at 12:02 pm |
    • effelbee

I believe you are confusing unions with the 16 major banks (bailed out by the Bush Administration), auto manufacturers and oil companies. There has not been a single union "bailout" so you are making a point with no evidence whatsoever.

      June 2, 2011 at 12:06 pm |
      • ADDGUY

I believe the point is that by including businesses such as GM the bailouts INDIRECTLY bailed out unions.

        June 2, 2011 at 12:37 pm |
      • vbscript2

Actually, the GM 'bailout' gave many billions worth of 'new GM' stock to the UAW, passing over the senior debt holders (the ones which are supposed to get paid first in the event of bankruptcy.) Perhaps you should know the facts yourself before trying to rebut someone else. The unions and lawyers have Obama bought and paid for.

..... and where do you think the stimulus money went, grasshopper?

        June 2, 2011 at 1:05 pm |
      • s.a.w.a.b

The bailout of big auto was started by Bush with no strings attached. Obama at least made sure tax payers got something out of the deal by giving a loan and wiping out bond holders that obviously weren't concerned with the way big auto was running their business or they would have pressed GM and Chrysler to make more changes sooner.
So lets see- loans repaid check, Selling off stocks in both companies to recoup more tax payer dollars check, oh and bring back manufacturing jobs to the rust belt and southern states check. I guess his plan has to be worst than just giving money with no strings attached like Bush. Please people state facts not opinions.

I thought the unions are a coalition of working-class Americans ... you know, the 98% of the population that doesn't make enough money to benefit from the GOP/Bush tax-cuts for the rich?!

      June 2, 2011 at 2:40 pm |
      • Mike

Marley, I'm part of that so-called 98% number you're talking about and I'm not complaining.
Maybe you should get off your butt and get a job and stop bitching about everything that isn't handed to you on a silver platter by your government.
You must be one of the 50+% that pays ZERO income taxes. Lord forbid those people actually be expected to pay their fair share of the costs to run this country. That same 50+% probably occupy 90+% of the dollars spent on social programs. Go figure.

        June 2, 2011 at 4:35 pm |
      • Marley

@Mike: Nobody is asking for handouts. That is not even the point I am arguing.

It's funny how folks like you accuse Obama & Dems of giving out free handouts to their UNION constituency, but have ZERO FACTS to back it up.

Reagan tried trickle-down economics: it FAILED.

Bush tried extreme trick-down economics: it FAILED MISERABLY.

Marley- You realize that the Democrats held the Congress for the last two years of President Bush's Administration right? You realize that a President does not send us to a war our Congress authorizes us to go to war. When you liberals scream about Bush starting two wars, I think you need to look back at the vote to go to Iraq and to Afghanistan. You put forth all this blame to one side when you should truly open your eyes to what is going on around you, you have been sucked into the vacuum like so many others bought an paid for with an entitlement check or a government job. Our Nation is broke, our economy is in shambles by over micro management by a bunch of self serving lawyers living high on the hog off all of our tax dollars. Wake up and smell the burnt rubber...

        June 2, 2011 at 4:48 pm |
      • Marley

@Monster: You do realize the MAJOR PROBLEMS facing the nation was created by Bush/GOP in 2001-2003 right?

The last 2 years of Bush's administration was a lame duck Congress – up until the Great Recession came into full effect in 2008. Then Bush had no choice but to admit defeat and accept Keynesian economic solutions to fix the ails of the economy.

The Bush economic policies put in place in 2001 were so bad even his economic advisers warned him. Bush/GOP policies were so bad that in 2003 they had to pass another bill to fix the problems of Bush initial economic policies set in 2001.

Knowing full well the economy was going into the gutter, the Bush/GOP needed a STIMULUS PLAN. The invasion of IRAQ was the perfect STIMULUS PLAN.

Remember that Obama had no choice but to use Keynesian economic policies to fix the problems in the economy. Some of you are acting like Obama purposely employed a STIMULUS PLAN because he loves handing out free money ... Obama had no choice because Bush/GOP screwed up the economy!

        June 2, 2011 at 6:29 pm |
      • Monster Zero

Marley-the economic problems facing our Nation started far before GW Bush. Take a look at the Greenspan derivatives scheme cooked up during the Clinton years that nearly destroyed the economy the first time. Truly the wars during Bush did not help but look prior to that at the Clinton Administration cutting National Security spending and allowing UBL and AlQaeda to reach the capability to bring a 9/11 attack to US soil...it is ALL of them and has been for ever. The Democrats are just as bad as the Republicans or worse, the difference that I see is the Democrats have morphed into this Socialistic minded monstrosity of thinking THEY as some super intellect elitists far above us that are to tell us the populous how to live our lives, how much we will make, what lite bulb to use, what we car to drive, what we will eat, where we will get our medical care....sorry, I am not that gullible to buy their loaf of nut bread, not for me!

      • Leria

Okay, to state on a point that Monster Zero brought up since I am unable to respond to his post: The Democrats did N O T have control of Congress for 6 years. When you took into account the Blue Dogs, they had BARELY 49 Democrats in the Senate that voted consistently for Democrat positions. I don't call 49 out of 100 a majority.
In the House, it was even worse........ less than 2/5ths of the House were Democrat policy people, the Republicans made up about 2/5ths and the Blue Dogs made up the remaining 1/5th.

Google and read articles on how even Bush's economic advisors opposed and warned him about his economic policies. Just imagined had Bush listened to his advisors. Then the illegal war with Iraq would have not been necessary to STIMULATE the economy from the mini recessions of 2001-2003.

If you don't understand how Bush's Iraq war was his STIMULUS PLAN to advert the pending Great Recession of 2008 as foretold by the mini-recessions of 2001-2003, then you don't know anything about economics and politics.

Obama actually gave us tax credits during the first two years, so you have been paying LESS in taxes that you were during the previous 8. He has only suggested tax increases on those whom have $250k AFTER all the deductions, etc. As for requiring you to purchase health insurance, you irresponsible twit, you should already be doing that – if you aren't, thanks for making my advil at the hospital cost $20 a pop. And OBAMA actually loosened gun laws allowing you to carry your precious in National Parks as had been outlawed before. Boo-yah!

They do want to eliminate the cushy tax breaks Bush gave to the wealthiest Americans. If your TAXABLE income in less than $250K (which means gross of ~ $300K) - you will see zero/nada/zilch inpact form that. And if it is over, you will simply return to Clinton-era levels – when we (all) were prosperous.

Here we are, talking about howmuch money it takes to win the Presidency and throwing around insults about who is to blame for the recession instead of having a mature conversation about what needs to happen in the United States to get us out of the recession. Where we are right now can be blamed on both parties. It also can be blamed on us because we elected people who have promised the impossible. We can not go back to the "good 'ol days" because we are in a global economy. We need to stop the blaming and start doing something about the situation we are in. Obama is not to blame for the recession any more than Hoover was for the Depression; it was a complex combination of many factors. The difference between Obama and Roosevelt is that Roosevelt knew that to get the economy going, we needed more jobs, and what better way to create those jobs than to improve our infrastructure. We need to stop giving money to wall street and start using money to pave main street.

man people have no clue how the country works. during Bush's administration the democrat's have full majority of the house and senate. no changes to the way the country works could have passed by congress without the full support of the democrats in congress. so you want to blame someone for the Bush economy look at the democrats as well as the republicans. as to taxes, even if you taxed the richest people in the country at 50% tax, it would not make a dent in the numbers for the tax debt. its not more taxes we need on rich or middle class, its cutting spending for programs that we don't need. like research to find out how fast a scrimp can run or spending money on talk shows.

When the economy took a turn for the worse during the Bush administration, what party controlled Congress? And how quickly the Dems today are to point out that the Republicans, who now control 1 house of Congress, are to blame for any lack of progress that may be attributable to Obama.

Do you Dems not recall the bi-partisan committee that identified both parties to blame for the recession? Turn off MSNBC, CNN, and FoxNews and do a little research on your own about what bills your politicians voted on. Wait, that would require too much effort. You're better off spewing talking points from Keith Olbermann, whose career is on the pathway to nowhere...are you completely lost now that he's gone?

Ending entitlements and teaching people to work hard and take care of themselves is somehow evil these days and that is what Republicans want so it is unpopular. The Goverment is not here to babysit you, they are here to keep the free market fair and that is what they do.

You're living in a dream world if you think markets are fair and even. Banks and Wall Street investors have built-in leverage (look at their ability to buy stocks preferentially in IPOs), their greed and recklessness caused the current (a point too obvious to detail here), and it is Republicans who most ardently oppose significant regulatory reforms (for instance, in the opposition to the Consumer Credit Protection agency nominee).

My communist friend, the market polices itself... If you provide a bad service, bad quality or overpriced goods and services, you will go bankrupt. The people who take advantage of other people may make a little money at first, but, they will eventually go bankrupt... It's called the free market. People with bad ideas and products fail and the strong survive. EVERYTHING YOU HAVE IS A PRODUCT OF THE FREE MARKET!!!!!. If, Panasonic didn't compete with Zenith, etc.., we'd still be watching black and white TV's. The government is the most inefficient, wasteful entity there is.

Guess you never read about people riding the trains from coast to coast looking for a job...work of any kind. Standing in soup kitchen lines for a small bite to eat. The entitlements were put in place so that would never happen again. But I guess since you never lived it or read about it you can't even fathom the hurt, pain and agony those people went through and that anyone at anytime could go through again. Those evil entitlements are your protection in case heaven forbid you lose your job or get hit by a vehicle and become disabled or......

      June 2, 2011 at 2:05 pm |
      • Dan

BD70, you are right on the money with what you say about entitlements. However, that is not how they are used. You cannot argue that point. I do not see any issue with someone getting monies when they are disabled or lose their job, but not to the many that are lazy, do no work, make no attempt at being a contributing citizen. Many people just collect a paycheck like its their right for just living in the US. Reform for the entitlements is needed. Anytime the government subsidizes your income, I vote that the person must perform some type of work through a government agency (picking up trash on roads, serving in non-profit centers, working at homeless shelters, etc.) and also pass a drug test. Some people will be too lazy to do this and SHOULD not get any money.

        June 2, 2011 at 2:44 pm |

You are exactly right, those entitlements are there for our protection, a safety net and nothing more. Safety nets are not there to be lived in, they are there to catch you when you fall, and help you so that you can get back up on your own two feet. You will not find a single Republican who wants to eliminate these safety nets, but you will find Republicans who want to ensure that they remain safety nets, a temporary aid, and not a way of life.

There are plenty of jobs out there, people just feel they're entitled to more so they do not take the jobs they deem to be below their worth. If you're living on welfare, and passing up jobs which could put you back to work and allow you to contribute to society instead of take from it, you are worth very little.

I work for a living... Thank you. Not all entitlements are bad, but they do INCENTIVIZE laziness. And by the way, I don't need to read about it, I live and breathe in the real world as a hard working self employed INDIVIDUAL. The best thing that you can do for other people is is to TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF and burden them with your problems. This is the USA, the land of upward mobility and opportunity, not handouts!

        June 2, 2011 at 4:23 pm |
      • John

What you fail to realize is that the 'Great Depression' was a horrific time for many. Most of those people were hard working and willing to do any type of work to provide for their families.

Todays 'Entitlement' people have little to no desire for work. Most would prefer free handouts for the rest of their lives.
There are many people on Medicaid that will never do anything with their lives and will continue to pump out more children in order to receive a larger monthly entitlement check.

If someone is out of work because of the harsh economy who previously had a job, I can understand giving them a helping hand. Its the people who will never contribute to the economy that most Republicans (Yes, I am a republican) have a problem with.

We used to be a country that cared for those who could not care for themselves. Now we are a country that would see the return of poor houses, starvation, high infant mortality, elder abuse, and 50% or higher illiteracy. This issue is not black or white, it has shades of gray. I also know that instead of thinking I'm so much better than others and feeling so self-righteous, I can look a little deeper and see that all Americans are suffering right now and need help from the government they've entrusted.

And instead... I can realize who is really robbing us all blind and DESTROYING the middle-class. Guess who's tax cuts are supported for by the Republicans–corporations and private individuals who are super-rich. And guess what? These companies and individuals don't give a crap about investing their money here even with the tax breaks. And we see the result of it through Bush Jr. and his antics and our situation now. When 98% of a countries citizens are reliant on their government to survive you end up with a Socialist, Communist, or Dictatorship type of government. Who benefits in those situations? The ruler and his elite class. Nobody else.

It is amazing how short-sighted people become in the name of spewing empty political rhetoric. Lets back up and use our brains to think, and not talk by reflex, stop covering your eyes with biased, cloudy lenses. This President is way superior to the last one that we had lest we forget. This economy would have been no better over the last three years had McCain or any other republican been in power. The republican party led by George Bush drove this country down the steep slope to recession. There are no feasible republican candidates that can do a better job, and yes to all the haters this BLACK President will once again be victorious so cut the Kool aid, water melon eating comments and look to the new reality. Not by the color of my skin but through my abilities and deeds. Name one candidate more qualified to do the job.

Look people it all comes down to this. Obama has done nothing for this country AT ALL except to hand out money to people who are to lazy to work or they are some third world country crying for a hand out.

We need a president who is going to take of OUR country create jobs for us and then when we are taken care of THEN AND ONLY THEN go and help other countries.

While the hypocritical Obama administration keeps telling us to tighten
our belts, they continue to spend OUR hard earned money like drunken
sailors. For example, with Obama's recent trip to England, the British
press was entranced by the sheer size of President Obama's traveling
      entourage. And no wonder.

Obama arrived with 500 staff in tow, including 200 Secret Service
agents, a team of six doctors, the White House chef and kitchen staff
with the president's own food and water.

And, according to the Evening Standard, he also came with "35 vehicles
in all, four speech writers and 12 teleprompters." For sure, our
president is not going to be at a loss for words.

The press duly reported on Air Force One and all its bells and whistles
but also on the presence of the presidential helicopter, Marine One, and
a fleet of identical decoys to ferry him from Stansted airport to
      central London.

When George W. Bush heard about the Fort Hood shooting, he got in his car without any escort, apparently they did not have time to react, and drove to Fort Hood. He was stopped at the gate and the guard could not believe who he had just stopped. Bush only asks for directions to the hospital then drove on. The gate guard called that "The President is on Fort Hood and driving to the hospital." The base went bananas looking for Obama. When they found it was Bush, they immediately offered escort. Bush simply told them it was o.k. and to let him visit the wounded and the dependents of the dead. He stayed at Fort Hood for over six hours, and was finally asked to leave by a message from the White House.
Obama flew in days later and held a "photo" session in a gym, and did not even go to the hospital.
Those who wanted "change" certainly got it. Someone, PLEASE, show me anything that will tell us that Obama has ANY respect for the country he leads!

SAVE AMERICA ... DUMP OBAMA IN 2012 !!!

      June 4, 2011 at 2:03 pm |

I see these hateful remarks and I see the decline of America. Wake up Americans...America, this once great nation, is being destroyed. The government is corrupt. It's more than time to wake up and do what President Eisenhower did. Burgeoning numbers of illegal alien Mexicans prompted President Dwight D. Eisenhower to appoint longtime friends John Cox and General Joseph Swing as INS Commissioner. According to Attorney General Herbert Brownell, Jr., Eisenhower had a sense of urgency about illegal immigration upon taking office. In a letter to Sen. J. William Fulbright, received at his Villa Portofino office, Eisenhower quoted a report in The New York Times that said, "The rise in illegal border-crossing by Mexican "wetbacks" (rooted from the watery route taken by the Mexican nationals across the Rio Grande) to a current rate of more than 1,000,000 cases a year has been accompanied by a curious relaxation in ethical standards extending all the way from the farmer-exploiters of this contraband labor to the highest levels of the Federal Government." The operation was modeled after a program that came to be termed the Mexican Repatriation, which put pressure on citizens of Mexico to return home during the Great Depression, due to the economic crisis in the United States. It worked!!!! Men coming home from the war found jobs. The ecomony improved drastically. This man obama doesn't care. Don't be surprised if he doesn't do an amnesty to get reelected. After all, the young 18-24 have wakened up and see him from what he is AND WHAT HE HAS DONE TO THIS GREAT NATION ALONG WITH THE LIBERALS. HANDS OUTS, ANCHOR BABIES, FREE THIS AND THAT. IT AIN'T FREE. SOMEONE HAS TO PAY FOR IT. OUR TAXES DO. IN THE NEXT DECADE TAXES WILL RISE TO SUCH A COST THAT WE'LL BE LUCKY TO FEED OUR OWN PEOPLE. College kids can't find JOBS. The illegals are everywhere. McDonald's Chick-Fil-A, factories. Don't give me that grap that Americans won't do the work they do. PAY them right!!!!

Anyone who think Obama has done a good job has to be on government assistance. Any working citizen who thinks he is doing an outstanding job has to be holding down a minimum wage job with no education, or is teaching at a university or public school. Again, government assistance in an indirect form... For us working middle class who was hoping for a "REAL CHANGE" when we voted for him, he has been a terrible disappointment. Nothing has changed. Same "POLITICS" for the self righteous politician narcisists, different day leading the flock to the kool-aid fountain.

Isn't it amazing that the job and position as President of the U.S. pays $400K per year yet to run a election for this office costs over one billion dollars. The two amounts do not equate except for the the fact that it is all about gaining POWER, STATUS, and having POLITICAL FAVORS. Greed is distroying America and it is only a matter of time before this country's end if our way of life continues on the same sick path that it has been on for a long time! Both will rob you, take your freedom and make promises they cannot keep. For some reason people have this idea that they will vote for the lesser of the two evils...It is the same thing in a different package. The only possible way for us to survive is to revert to our roots, we have strayed far from the constitution. The last real president (JFK) stood for things that inevitably got him killed, whichever you believe it was, cia, mob, bankers...But he stood for something and was willing to go the distance. Read up on Executive Order 11110. It is potentially the last hope we have of restoring our Republic.

Why don't we just put a freakin' bar code on the office of the President? As it is, Congress is bought and paid for by all the special interests through "campaign contributions." That's why you'll never see meaningful reform to commodities trading/speculation on oil, because when the major players have BILLIONS to donate, they can by both sides of the isle. You'll never see meaningful reform on prescription drugs for the same reason – with that much money in "campaign contributions" who in their right mind that wants to be re-elected would turn that down?

Oh, and you can also freely substitute the word BRIBE for campaign contribution in this little rant if you'd like.

Since Obama has become President, my stock portfolio and my kids college funds have risen over 50%. In my opinion this is the benefit of the stimulus money provided by Bush and managed by Obama. Inflation is terrible, but what were we to expect with the amount of debit we had. Considering the country was broke three years ago, I think Obama has done a decent job. Not much you can do between elections. Your theory is kind of obserd. What you are saying is something like becasue Hitler was Austrian all Austrians are Nazi's, or becasue Gary Damler was white and ate people, that all white people eat other people, or becasue Rev. Jessie Jackson had children by several women then all black men father children by several women. That is all very stupid. I am sure we can all look back at many Republicans, Democrats, Wigs, and other party members and say they were idiots and did the wrong thing. It is easy to be a monday morning quarterback, but when on the hot seat at the moment and with the information available at the time, these men did what they had to do. Not all decisons are well founded but one should not blame a group of people for one persons actions.

It never ceases to amaze me how little liberals know about everything... but still claim to know everything. It's obviuos that none of you are self employed or can even fathom how real life actually works. For those of us who actually work in the real world (not as community organizers) we understand how bad things still are (but as conservatives, we persevere instead of piss and moan, and extort)... Fact: Unemployent got WORSE under Obama. Fact: Obama has increased the deficit more in one year than Bush ever did. He's a bold faced commie liar... He talks about getting the deficit under control but then wants to increase the debt ceiling without making any cuts.
FACT: Wall street firms give more to Dems than Republicans... Liberals are quick to bash the financial industry (based on what Michael Moore and Bill Maher say) without any real understanding of the industry itself, while Unions siphon off legitimate businesses hard earned money through extortion, thuggery, and intimidation. THERE WOULD BE NO UNIONS IF THERE WEREN'T HARD WORKING RISK TAKERS IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR. SOCIALISM IS FOR UNDERACHIEVING LOSER D-BAGS. NO WONDER LIBERALS HATE CAPITALISM

is the country in good shape? no. can't blame just the president. when you are handed a turd upon entering office how much can you polish it. but, to me it seems politicians are really pandering to the lowest form lately. government is not about right or wrong, it's all opinion, the people we send to Washington should be working towards a middle ground not having a pissing contest for the press. i believe both parties have done a horrible job and no one is going to accept the blame.

My comment will make quite a few Americans very unhappy. I am very surprised that our current president is still alive. I very well remember when the FIRST BLACK FIREFIGHTER arrived in Lansing Mi. I often wonder how he survived the many years that he did as the FIRST BLACK FIREFIGHTER. Many times did i sit across the table from him while eating our meals. Many times in this station an older Firefighter, a Firefighter of Polish descendent, this white human being would watch TV in another room, he NEVER would eat with the rest of us, he hated BLACK people. Unfortunately America has a lot of WHITE people that hate BLACK people, especially one in the white house. I wonder which is hated the most nowdays, Blacks or Gays. There are far more important things to worry about in America than the color of one's skin, or what goes on in someones bedroom. Until we overccome these obstacles nothing is going to change. When and "IF" our politicians ever grow up and behave as responsible human beings, until then nothing is going to change. I am white and 82, my wife and myself have seen the best America ever offered. I am afraid those times will NEVER return. All of our politicians are to blame for what has happened to America. Unless you are extremely wealthy you will never enjoy the America that i have enjoyed. Our politicians are a disgrace to this great country. Apparently they are very important, or maybe that is what they want you to believe.

Unfortunately, the majority of Democratic *and* Republican parties simply pander to their own set of special interests - they are only different in the way they look at social issues, really. We've become a welfare nation, wanting handouts from the government, avoiding responsibility for our actions, and trying to get something from the government without thinking how we'll pay for it. We will not be able to dig our country out of this mess if we keep electing establishment candidates that mainstream media like to hype up. No wonder so many people have become disenfranchised with politics in general and refrain from voting. Not Obama, not Romney, not Palin, not Trump, not Clinton will be able to dig us out of this mess. Ron Paul 2012 - the real man of integrity, and truly an average American like you and I, who votes what he preaches and knows how restore a sound Dollar, which will be key to bringing prosperity back to this great country. Of course, to elect him, everyone has to make a sacrifice before it's too late. If we keep electing establishment candidates, I see incredible pain in our country's future.

Democrat, republican, it doesn't matter. Elections are about the money. The same republicans who criticize Obama's hauling of cash now had zero problem with the same tactics 8 years ago for Bush's reelection.

Barrak Obama? Do we know who this is? Have we not been hearing of this President and his policies and accomplishments (or non-accomplishments) for the past two almost three years?

Our economy is in a shambles. To most of the world out there America has become a laughing stock. Why on earth does PBO need $60 million to fund a re-election campaign?

All of the media coverage that's given his every move, thoughts, words, and actions are free to him. PBO can express his ideals as he does his job. If anything improves in our economy, world-view, etc. those actions are visible by everyone. Why does he need TV Commercials and Radio Advertising to tout why he deserves another term.

PBO will be a one-term President or two-term President based on how the American people see and hear how he's done his job.

If PBO thinks he needs $60 million to prove his points, he is a hypocrite and a thief. If he can raise that kind of capital, why can't he take that $60 million and feed the hungry and clothe those who've lost everything in recent weather disasters.

PBO does not need to spend one thin penny on any commercials. I am convinced. He should be a one-term President.

There! That's how I've saved wasting $60 million dollars!

His sources have told him Romney could come in as high as 50M, so he is pushing his people for 60M, to make sure he does not finish behind Romney and mess up the media's "incumbent Presidents are practically impossible to beat" narrative. It doesn't matter if he raises two billion, ultimately, his fate willk rest on what the economy does in the next 14-15 mos. and based on what we are seeing in that area right now, he is looking like a one term President.

$60 million! REALLY?!?! It make me sick that so much money is given for things like this (campaigns) when we have so many people without jobs, homeless, starving, etc. If these people want to donate money, why not donate it to something that will help others? We send our troops to other countries and spend billions of dollars doing it, but we can't even take care of the people in our own country. What about the people in Joplin or all the other cities/states devastated by the recent storms. Or the Children that go hungry everyday and have no home to go to at night. It seems to me that our Country does not have its priorities in order.

To all Dems: Your days of name-calling, race baiting, and blaming everyone but yourselves need to come to an end. Look around you. We're on the verge of an economic collapse under Obama's watchful eye. While you continue to shift blame towards Bush and the Republicans, it needs to stop. Assuming EVERYTHING was their fault, you 'hired' Obama to do a job. Now, we're on the verge of an economic collapse, indefinite unemployment, skyrocketing inflation, and a rock-bottom housing market. You all thought Bush was bad enough to vote somebody in...who turned out to be worse. Obama had a lot of pretty words to say during his campaign, but his actions reflect, otherwise. I hope this is a hard lesson learned for you. Unfortunately, the rest of us have to suffer for it, too. Obama is running the show now, and as a result, you need to start holding him accountable for his actions. As much pride as this may take, and as much pain this may cause you, it's the only fair thing to do. Bush had his horrible moments. We accept that. Now it's time to accept reality that Obama just isn't working out. Once more, I ask you to look around at where we're at. You hired Obama to do a job, and that was to fix the economy. Is it getting done? It would seem not. Wouldn't it be more prudent to be angry with HIM, and not somebody else? Bush was in the exact, same position that Obama is in right now. They're both waging their own wars, programs, and policies, at the expense of Joe Taxpayer. The only different is their party affiliation, which seems to matter a lot more to some people than common sense. Bin Laden's death was nice, and all, but THIS is the stuff that really matters to all of us. If our economy crumbles, then it doesn't matter who called who a name, anymore. We're ALL finished. Think about that for a while. It's time to start coming to your senses, people. That goes for ALL of us.

I am just curious who the Republicans think can step into office on Day 1 and change the world? Newt? Mitt? Sarah? The choices to run against Obama are pretty thin with having the great track record to show how they are going to turn everything around? Wars cost money, so unless we just decide to pack up leave countries, deficits grow. Also Paul's great plan to get us out of debt doesn't happen until 2040. So until 2018 we go in debt another 5-6 trillion. There is one way to get out of debt. 14.4 trillion doesnt happen overnight, but that is what most Republicans want. I mean I guess we can defund schools, the police, the fire department, the military, SS, and Medicaid and then we will be smooth sailing.
It wont matter though because we will all be dead.

All the anger on this board won't change the fact that Obama is clearly *not* hated by the majority of Americans. In fact, his personal likability numbers have been in the 60% range for some time now by most counts, and his policies/job satisfaction numbers have been in the 45-52% range for some time now. While the latter numbers are not great, and it's possible he could be beaten, he clearly has many, many loyal followers even today. That will undoubtedly get a few rabid, always-angry, self-righteous folks on these sad, lonely boards to call every one of those 45-60% of the American population idiots– I just want to point out that it is far, far more likely that there is a problem with you than it is likely that everyone else has a problem. I just don't know why so many folks approach these discussions as if they are the only ones with a working brain. Seriously, all of you who keep calling folks idiots should get a grip, and at least have the decency (or is it the courage?) to leave you real name. Stop hiding behind pseudonymns if you are going to be so irate, so certain of yourself, so willing to call other folks vicious names...

There is still large scale joblessness. No income no spending & certainly no donations by seniors who are being held hostage to faulty management by earlier Presidents leaving people without jobs, houses, income & unsupported healthcare phobia. Why not not to finish medicare, medicaid & keep jus social security assistance for employees & seniors by opening up chain of free hospitals for all citizens except employees & companies insured who should go Research Hospitals in commercial sector. All visits to Doctors & Hospitals must be signed by patients to avoid frauds so that expenditure on tracking of frauds too is reduced. Free Hospitals should be opened by federal & state Govts. on sharing basis & acquired from large corporations on Hire & Purchase basis as & when there under seperate Secretary of Health & Hospitals. It will give substatial savings & reduce spending by billions if preventive heakth clinics too are operated providing the backbone to US Health Care System reducubng expenditure on Medicare & Medicaid to Zero to satisfy GOP, Tea Party & upcoming politics. This option should be explored & exploited to clear the debt to give 100% leverage to GOP bringing all Congressmen & women on line with citizens of America as per constitution Right of Equality.

It is funny that many here still want to blame Bush when Obama and the dems have been in control for over two years and the dems had control under Bush for the last two years of his admin. Obama wanting to collect a billion dollars while he increases our countries debt and millions of Americans are out of work is just ridiculous! When is this 'man' going to man up and get jobs back and start paying down our debt? When will he put out an ecomic plan instead of trying to raise the debt ceiling? Stop blaming Bush and take a good hard look at Obama as he is fully in charge now.

Amen. And this....in the end....is the reason I'll be beyond shocked if Obama is reelected. When times are good, folks only partially pay attention to the political process. When the family is hungry, all of the toys must be sold, a move made to a much smaller house....folks wake up and pay attention. Last time around Obama was the first to use the internet to get the young vote. That cat is now out of the bag. Personally I don't care who does it....I'd just like to see someone make governing the people the priority rather than lining their own pockets.

Obama has created more jobs in less than a 2 years than Bush/GOP did in 8 years. All them folks who have gotten new jobs in the last two years are happier under Obama!

Obama has made it more possible for millions of people to get health insurance. Those folks are happier too!

Those folks who depend on the auto industry are sure happy as heck as well.

Much like the time when the US went through the industrial revolution, we're at a point wherein the work force must change...must be re-educated. Back then, we needed folks who could run the factories...not farmers. So we trained folks to work in the factories...and the industrial revolution boomed.
Coming up with projects to put the nail pounders and rock breakers back to work provides only a short term solution. It did just that. And that's why the recession is not over. Soon nail pounding, rock breaking, road fixing, and the like will be done by machines...that run on software. We already have these technologies. As such we'll need folks who can bring these technologies to fruition.....write that software, test it, and folks who can build and run the computers and machines that will do the work.
A better and longer term fix would be to educate folks who are out of work. If your income is < some reasonable amount and/or you're out of work..and/or your expertise is in these jobs that are passing, the government pays to send you to school so you can work in the new processor-controlled world.
As a side benefit we would soon have a much better, much more maintained infrastructure system and a much smarter work force ready to move on to even newer technologies.
This is going to have to occur sooner or later. Fixing roads the old-fashioned way in a ill-fated attempt to keep folks working will never work long term.

Come on DB, In new york state when the republicans win, they hooks themselves up by giving out contracts for cash and they turn their millions into billions. When the democrats take over they do the same thing, hook themselves up for huge cash bonuses. They all promise to help the working middle class and they our taxes go up. Long ago people have said that this politics game was a racket. People in power use their power to enrich themselves and their friends, whomever takes power takes the cash.

The man is an egocentric marxist. That said, the republicans don't have anyone any different or bettter. Maybe we should just eliminate the job! Between a professional lawyer lobby called congress and the executive branch we would be better of with none of them. Let the governors run their state and forget the feds. At least governors are elected by popular vote and changed every four years. They tend to listen. Those people in Washington don't even listen to themselves.

It is hard to fathom a $1 billion campaign for re-election. Especially since this will be primarily spent in a few swing states. For those states, it will be a new stimulus package. For most of us, a big waste that will be matched by the other lunatics on the republican side.

As always, political campaigns show how incredibly stupid Americans are with money! How about we pass a law, that says that no political candidate, for any office, can spend more than $50,000? And no one can spend money for them, in any way (that keeps the cheaters from buying television time for their candidate). The $50K should be enough for them to mail a pamphlet out to every voter in the country, spelling out what they're for and against. Have two debates with the various opponents, and then let the people decide who they want. No more PAC's, no more lobbying, no more ACORN......let the people decide, instead of having the decision handed to them by someone who says they speak for the people!!

What world are you living in? Obama has not done squat!!!! I am not republican, democrat nor liberal just an average american that knows that the economy is in serious depression and there is no gdp growth. The only people making any money is the loans and bail out that the US government gave to businesses and banks. You tell me that 19% unemployed Americans just suddenly started working? I tell you differently!!!! The economy will fizzle out it is like running on its own battery and generator which eventually will go to zero. The US has very little manufacturers and the US imports a lot of stuff but, exports very little. When you have 19% unemployed means: 1) No one is buying anything except neccessities. I for myself am working but, I cut expenses down to just utilities and rent, I will not buy anything and I am sure that is what the majority of people are doing. I will not spend a dime on frivolous items such as Starbucks, or JCPenney's or even Walmart. I only buy what I need. I do not even go out and spend the extra money on gasoline and I certainly do not stop at a Quik Mart or 7eleven store for other things. I know many others doing the same and you think it is going good. 2) The housing market is so much in the slump I would not even think on buying a house. I will not spend my money, use my credit cards nor expand what I own. In fact, I reducing my things and just saving for a rainy day. You on the other hand just keep it up you will find yourself in the unemployment line one day.

That will undoubtedly get a few rabid, always-angry, self-righteous folks on these boards to call every one of those 45-60% of the American population idiots– I just want to point out that it is far, far more likely that there is a problem with you than it is likely that everyone else has a problem.

Obama's recent trip to England, the British
press was entranced by the sheer size of President Obama's traveling

Completely bogus long form birth certificate posted on whitehouse.gov website as the 'real document'. Campaign contribution fraud. Putting Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin in jail because you know you are a fraud and the only 'out' for you was to court martial a decorated veteran instead of putting up some legitimate documentation.. In other words you have hidden all your real documents that would mean anything in the real world and can only unload FORGERIES to support your sham history. It's going to be game over soon though because you have a real problem and the public is on to you. Finally i understand what you mean by "audacity of hope". Second would have to be when you said that black men work harder then white men. But this one takes the cake. Also you forgot to mention that it was Democrat Governors that would not let black school kids attend class, also Democrats that blocked the civil rights laws. If not for the Conservatives there would not have been a civil rights movement.

The truth is that Obama promised things and did not deliver, or get relatively close. People are blinded by the shine in his smile and the words that come out of his mouth. Truthfully his a very talented politician. I do not claim Bush had all the right answers as we could see by his 2 terms, but to claim Obama has done better than Bush is simply moronic. He has created jobs, but jobs have been lost at almost equal rates. He increased spending on things that were frivilous and is now asking for 60M in funs for one month. The truth is everything he does is just to make him look good, Bush atleast admitted when he was wrong. So From what I have seen on this forum is the majority of people would rather have a silver tongued president than a man who had the morality to live up to his mistakes.
If you want to start blaming people about the economy look at the people we elect in all offices. They have agendas the have honor to hold their offices, and Congress meets how many months a year? 4-5 , maximum if that yet they are pulling in easily over 6 digit pay grades as well as the president. I thought that doing these things were public service, not a career.
So before everyone starts to roast me for just speaking my mind, remember that really I don't care what you think because the true people to blame are ourselves for being short sighted and only looking for the fast pay offs in an election.

    Ready... Set.... Fire away!

However, Pres Obama has said he was wrong on certain ideas; maybe he didn't think it through, maybe he didn't reach out far and long enough. My biggest complaint on this blog is that I know CONGRESS, including many of his own party didn't intend to work with him on those promises and they are making sure that they don't so that he can look bad! Corporations bought the 2010 midterm elections by lying to us in political advertisements.
So the President and his political party need more money to counter corporate manipulation of our democracy.
That wasn't as much of a problem until the 2010 elections when a corrupt Supreme Court allowed corporations to directly or indirectly advertise politically. Thus more than ever before money, not the result of meaningful debate, decides the outcome of elections in the US.
