Obama hits two fundraisers as crucial quarter ends

Philadelphia (CNN) – President Obama will head to Philadelphia for two events organized by the Democratic National Committee Thursday, the same day the first major and closely-watched fundraising quarter of the 2012 presidential campaign cycle draws to a close.

The president, joined by Reps. Bob Brady and Chaka Fattah and Mayor Michael Nutter, will deliver remarks at a fundraising bash at The Bellevue Hyatt in the afternoon. Ticket prices started at $100 according to two Democratic officials.

The officials said he will then attend a fundraising dinner at the home of Rhonda and David L. Cohen, tickets for which started at $10,000. DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania will attend the evening event.

On a DNC conference call Thursday, former Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania said he thinks the events will raise $2.5 million to benefit the Obama Victory Fund, a joint account between the DNC and OVF.

The president's trip caps off a busy fundraising schedule over the last month as both the Obama campaign and the DNC hope to report monster numbers as the 2012 reelection effort officially gears up. Less than a week ago, Obama hit three back-to-back fundraisers in New York City, including a $35,800-a-plate dinner at an Upper East Side restaurant. He was also the main attraction at two fundraisers at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in the nation's capital 10 days ago.

Obama campaign officials have already signaled they are way ahead of their own record-breaking pace in the 2008 campaign, having amassed contributions from over 300,000 individuals so far – nearly a 100 percent increase from this same time four years ago. In all, the campaign has told donors they are expecting to raise at least $60 million combined with the DNC this quarter.

Meanwhile, Obama's trip to Pennsylvania Thursday marks the thirteenth time he has visited the crucial battleground state since his inauguration and is the third trip since kicking off his reelection bid on April 4.

Obama uses his children to chastise the Republicans over the deficit, questioning why the Republicans can't do what they are suppossed to do. I didn't hear the President say anything to the Democrats when the Democrat controlled Congress couldn't even come up with a budget for over 18 months. What a hypocrite.

As always, time to raise money for himself, but leave the others to do the work that he should have been doing all along.
Just like he has been doing the past 2 1/2 years, wait till the final hour then come running in like the king of kings to save the day. what a tard.

He insists that others cancel their vacations for the need of this country, and yet he is the most guilty of all. His administration and the democrats failed to submit a budget for the past 2 1/2 years and here we are now. Obama has played over 70 rounds of golf, Obama has played golf for the 14th weekend in a row and yet now he wants to get serious. We are tired of the continued spending without a plan of how these "programs" will be funded. These professional politicians scream that medicaid and medicare will be cut under the republican/Ryan plan, and yet they ignore the simple fact that in 10-13 years these programs will run out of funds so all people on the programs will suffer the pain if nothing is done. Almost all social programs benefit many, however it does not matter how "good" a program is, if you can't show how it will be funded it should not be implemented.

"His administration and the democrats failed to submit a budget for the past 2 1/2 years" ... where are you getting that from? The President has submitted budgets for 2010, 2011, and 2012 so far. And for once they actually contain the cost of the wars which for years was kept off the books under Bush. Furthermore, when the President goes for some R&R he goes to a golf course a few miles away from the White House, he's still in town. Unlike his predecessor who spent most of his time on a ranch in Texas.

Really – when a budget was due the dems had the House, Senate and "O" was in office. They decided against a budget because they wanted to keep spending, and spending, and spending....

Obama has no concept of what it takes to make a living. He has always been on the public dole. His greatest talent is the ability to talk corrupt, stupid, and greedy liberals out of their campaign contributions. The only way Obama can win an election, is by buying it. That's why he needs a BILLION DOLLARS to re-buy the White House in 2012 ... and, that's why he is sacrificing the dignity of the the office, by raffling off lunches to raise more money. This slippery hypocrite is a disgrace, and should be impeached ... or, at the very least, dumped in 2012 !!!

Wow if the job description for Presidency was to have no downtime or R&R no one would run for president. Plus, fundraising is work it's not a vacation!! Several past presidents were self-serving and I always heard it in their voice. Obama on the other hand I feel listens and have a deep concern for Americans. It's too bad the critics and Obama haters are so blind that they spew hatred and offer to solutions themselves. I laugh when I see comments from the media and Obama haters who expect Obama to clean up the past 30 years of wasteful spending and corruption that's been going on. IT'S NOT OVERNIGHT FOLKS. It takes a long very long time to clean up the mess that rich and greedy people have gotten this country into.

      What are you 12?

We go through this Social Security/Medicare adjustment every 20-25 years. We also go through reinventing ourselves every 25-30 years.... and each time that GOP elephant sounds like it is in labor. Party of NO!

For Pete sake read some history, the Repugs have been saying Social Security is going broke since its 1935 inception. Barry Goldwater claimed it was going broke in 1964. Ronald Reagan claimed it was going broke in 1982. It is a fact that Eisenhower was one of the few that expanded Social Security by bringing 10 million people into the system.

It currently isn't broke, nor will it be in the short term, it will need minor adjustments to keep it functioning. All the noise you hear is "the elephant in labor syndrome, again".

Do you really think every "good" program comes with a crystal ball that will predict absolutely all future developments? Do you think the colonist revolted knowing exactly how the whole thing would end? Nothing in life is static that is why there is a tomorrow that allows for "good" things to be adjusted.

Fortunately for this great country, we, like Madonna, have the opportunity to reinvent ourselves every 20-30 years. Currently, due to technology and a world market situation, we can either decide to sit and belabor the whole thing with the elephant, or get off our duffs and reinvent this country for the 21st Century. The rich have been living high on those Bush era tax rates...the absolutely lowest rates since 1950...it is time we go back to the Clinton era rates, put this country back to work making this a green nation. Wind, solar, wave and whatever it takes.

If we listen to that elephant we will be behind Sweden, China, Japan, Russia, India....plus many other developed countries...or do you think we should repeat our being behind like when Sputnik was launched? That NO" was the same "NO" that left us behind then. These are the same "NO' to bullet trains, and the anti-green campaign is the same as that was present for funding space technology in the 50's. This country can become even richer than it currently is by going green. I for one motion that we move forward.

Why don't we take all that money both sides are raising and put it on the "DEBT", we really don't need 1 year of;; commercials, mainlings, spots on tv an radio, and all the other "waste of money" spent during an election, let put it to good use.

Mitch McConnell invited the hissy fit throwing Presidnet to the Senate for talks today, But he isn't going becuase he has 2 PA fundraisers. His dishonest tirade yesterday continues to expose this sham of a "leader". I don't know of many people making $250K that have private jets, but he made it sound that the only people he's looking toi increase traxes on are oil companies and private jet owners. Very deceiitful Typical class warfare. He is in way over his head and the pressure is getting to him.

      In
      1952
      President Truman
established one day a year as a
      "National Day of Prayer."
      ------------------------------------------

      In
      1988
      President Reagan
      designated the
First Thursday in May of each year as
      the National Day of Prayer.
      -----------------------------------------

      In June
      2007
      (then)
      Presidential
      Candidate Barack Obama
      declared that the USA
      "Was no longer a
      Christian nation."
      ---------------------
      This year
      President Obama
      canceled the
      21st annual National Day
      of Prayer ceremony
      at the White
      House under the ruse
Of "not wanting to offend anyone"

      ------------------------

      BUT... on September 25, 2009
from 4 AM until 7 PM,
      a National Day of Prayer
      FOR THE MUSLIM RELIGION
      was Held on Capitol Hill,
      Beside the White House.
      There were over 50,000 Muslims
      in D.C. that day.

      HE PRAYS WITH THE MUSLIMS!

      I guess it Doesn't matter
      if "Christians"
Are offended by this event –
      We obviously
      Don't count as
      "anyone" Anymore.

The direction this country is headed
should strike fear in the heart of every Christian,
      especially knowing that the
Muslim religion believes that if Christians cannot be
      converted, they should be annihilated.

Why should we have a national prayer day, this country was established on freedom of religion and to have such a day raises Christianity above others. that is wrong

@HOWARD -Tell another lie real quick....since this one is definitely a doozy, and lying seems to be your specialty. This is not the first time I've found you talking trash. You wouldn't know truth if it bit you on the backside.

Printed online for April 20, 2011 on The Presbyterian Outlook St Augustine Florida....website...for all to check your lie.

On Tuesday, April 19, 2011 (PNS) Presbyterian Church (USA) General Assembly Stated Clerk Gradye Parsons joined a group of religious leaders for the second Holy Week Prayer Breakfast at the White House hosted by President Barack Obama.

Obama is the first president to host a prayer breakfast in the White House marking Easter and the Holy Week.

The article by Jerry L. Van Marter is titled: "Parsons Joins Obama for Prayer Breakfast".

Listed are the people representing many churches including the director of the Tekakwitha National Catholic Church Council, and the Rev. T.D. Jakes, pastor of The Potter's House, a non-denominational 30,000 member church from Dallas.

And on the Los Angeles Times website for: February 3, 2011 in an article by Michael A. Mimoli
Obama Provides Insight into his faith at National Prayer Breakfast....this one was for lawmakers and religious leaders.

On February 4, 2010 President Obama spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton. You can watch the video of his speech online.

On April 6, 2010 President Obama spoke at the National Easter Prayer Breakfast, in the East Room of the White House.
The website is christianpost com. "Obama Hosts Easter Prayer Breakfast by Michelle A. Vu – Christian Post Reporter.

On June 16, 2009 he addressed the National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast ...you can find this a reuters for June 16, 2009.

President Clinton hosted no Prayer Breakfasts during his 8 years.
President Reagan hosted one during his 8 year presidency. Which was a Rose Garden event in 1982.
President George H. W. Bush hosted one during his presidency....which was in 1989 in the State Dining Room.

On April 15, 2010 a federal judge ruled that the National Day of Prayer was unconstitutional. The Obama Administration was actually the defendant in that suit, arguing in favor of retaining the National Day of Prayer.

And if you will check your lie out at Snopes it will tell you that President Obama did not cancel the National Day of Prayer. He only changed the date for the White House Prayer Breakfast service to the week of Easter.

And there is no national Islamic Day of Prayer.
