Yes, so true! It will take a while to clean up the mess left by Bush. BTW, how much of this deficit was left from the unnecessary war in Iraq, created by Bush?

A simple question Cindy.... how do you propose to be rid of conservatives? Please enlighten us with your plan... It would be interesting, and telling to hear what you have to say.

@Bill in STL Have you ever noticed that people like the one who just kill 90+ people in Norway are always right-wing zealots? AKA conservatives. It is a flawed philosophy that is always embedded in the me, not the we.

Not always jean, what about stalin ... he was what we call a left wing radical...... a socialist... wonder why they call them that?????? I am sure the death toll at the hand of stalin was quite a bit more than 80... Oh and what happened to those that disagreed with him and the leaders that followed>>>>>>>> I think you know...

No Bill, when it all boiled down Stalin was a right-wing radical. He no more believed in helping those with less than Hitler.

T J, why doesn't the congress and the president take a pay cut say of about $100,000 less for the president and congress make no more then $75,000. Instead of taking cut at medicare and social security. They could also cut their health care cost. then cut the pay for everyone in Washington to $75,000. Then we would have money for our debt. The seniors have had a cola raise since the president took office. But everyone in Washington gets raises. Cause they vote on them not the people.

We need to elect average people to congress and get all the rich out of their. Then only let them be in office for two terms. also why don't they cut their retirement also. These are question no one is asking.

Pay the congress and senate exactly what they are worth–nothing. As a taxpayer, I feel that if you are making the salary basically paid by taxpayers, then pay for your fair share. Corporate jet owners do not need loopholes or breaks–the decision to have these jets is theirs and they don't need tax breaks–fly commercial like everyone else. Luxury costs and if you can afford then no tax break. Corporate America has made extremely large profits since "recession has ended" but all their profits are going overseas because they don't like America's spending habits at the moment and don't see any improvement for the foreseeable future–they prefer to expand overseas for profit. Why, then, do these corporations deserve loopholes to keep more of their money to expand overseas rather than open the job market right here in America where they are making the money through tax loopholes–close the loopholes. It is really pathetic that the senate and congress are playing with the peoples money and then go on vacations, get inexpensive health insurance, don't have to worry about where their next mortgage payment is coming from, or if you can buy food to put on the table. There is no middle class in America any more. It is poor and rich and the rich keep getting richer and poor keep getting poorer. Don't ask a bank to lower your interest rate on credit cards–the response I received was"due to economic times we cannot help you. Ask again in a year" This was a message from Bank of America. The average person cannot get help from anywhere so God forbid if you end up in the hospital you have no help from any corner. I believe that the high muck-a-mucks in Washington have forgotten what it is like to live on a shoestring (most never ever had to). All this political foo foo about debt ceiling, taxes, cuts, etc. is just a bunch of garbage. We need players who are going to actually do something right for the American people. Let the political mojo's take a 50% cut in salary for the next 3 years (my wages have been frozen for 3 years and I had to take a second job in the evening just to attempt to make ends meet and I'm 63). Raise the debt ceiling and cut out the garbage commissions to see if the fish are biting in whatever Lake. Close loopholes and penalize corporations who would rather further their enterprises overseas rather than do business in America. Stop trying to fix everyone else's problems around the world and fix what is wrong in America instead of just talking. Talk is cheap. America is a wonderful place to live in, and I am extremely greatful for the men and women who have fought the battles to keep us free, but now is the time for us to fix the our problems and not by chopping off the left leg to satisfy the political ambitions of those who don't want to pay their fair share. If the senate and congress close loopholes they lose large contributors to their political coffers and their future political aspirations. This is what they call protecting the American citizen and making life better. If loopholes are closedf and corporate jets lose their tax breaks, then the politicians will just have to use more of their personal money to run for reelection rather than depend on the corporations. Or don't the politicians have the money to run for office? Have you ever seen an average citizen run for national office and get anywhere? Money begets money and America is supposed to be a place where everyone is equal-so, let those that have the cash pay their fair share for once. When all is said and done in Washington, the debt ceiling will be raised; cuts will be in place; the corporations and jet owners will remain happy (no cuts); gas prices will be higher than a kite; average people will have to decide whether to buy gas to work or feed the kids; and Washington will go on as usual bragging that they have served the American people very well. It falls to Republicans and Democrats and Tea Party and Conservatives and Independents alike to finally take some responsibility for the mess we are in and be truly representatives of the people that put them in office. Right now Washington is willing to cut off its nose to spit its face and has no idea what it means to "pick your battles". The newly elected Tea Party just wants to be top dog and say we stood tall and won whether it is financially or fiscally feasible. The Republicans are standing on no tax increases for the wealthy and corporate America and gas companies but are very open to cutting Medicare and Social Security which most people can't live on. Look at priorities. Who can afford to open up and give more–elderly who are on entitlement programs (by the way, they put their hard earned money in for years) or those who were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. Do you really believe that not closing loopholes for corporations is going to keep jobs in America? Take a good look at exactly where their profits are being invested. Betcha it isn't at home? Labor is cheap overseas. The stupidity that if these loopholes are closed jobs will be less available here in America is a terror tactic. These corporations have no intention of increasing the job market here because it is cheaper and more profitable for them to invest overseas. Make it overseas and import it back into America and triple the price. When was the last piece of clothing purchased with a "Made in USA" label. Thanks for letting me babble.

The Republicans are trying to position themselves for the W.H. by playing politics with the debt ceiling. You cannot create jobs by cutting spending. All the economist agree that we are going to lose jobs, if spending is cut. We need to increase spending so we can create jobs to collect more taxes, to balance the budget. We also need to cut imports, in order to create more jobs ins the U.S. The first thing that can be done to create jobs immediately, is to stop phone calls being transferrred out of the U.S. to service companies over seas, this could create a sizable amount of jobs immediately. The big corporations are only interested in making profits regardless of what country benefits. They are multi national companies with no allegence to the U.S. We need to increase tariffs on imported materials/products being manufactured over seas, and those foriegn countries making huge profits from the U.S., and not allowing us to send our products into their countries. Of course, the large corporations will send our jobs over seas because they are only interested in cheap labor, and importing cheaply manufactured products into the U.S. Let's level the playing field by huge increases on import tariffs. If Boehner wants us to default, let us default, and put the blame on the Repubilicans for increased interest rates, and huge lost of jobs which will happen when we default, and the rich will have to pay higher interest rates on loans. Boehner talks as thou he is the President. I would like to know who elected him as President. It was very rude of him to walk out on the President, leaving him at the alter. Maybe we should call him "President Boehner", and maybe he would shed a few tears.

Boehner is only giving into the Tea Party, dumb demand for cutting spending in this bad economy, because he wants to get their support in the upcoming elections. If we cut the spending, we are going to lose more jobs, and this should not be our goal. To create jobs, by spending so we can collect more taxes, and balance the budget. All Americans are not as dumb as the Republicans think.
The tax cuts need to be taken away from the rich. They can afford to pay their mortgages, buy clothing, food, etc. The rich are not investing into the economy.
Social security, medicare, and medicaid should NOT be touched. It's a shame that they want to touch these, take away what probably is their only income, medical services, etc.

Mr. President. We are counting on you and Congress to hold up the value of America. Please stand firm in protecting entitlements earned by our seniors and military even at the cost of default. The "Silent Majority" pray and hope you all come to an agreement today. I stand with you because I believe you really care about Americans.

    God bless America

Maybe I am wrong, but didn't we vote for Obama to run our country. The Republications created this mess.
I think John Boehner is a traitor along with the other's of the republication party. The republications can't
even run a candidate for president who has experience and is educated. Enough is enought, we have
people on the street, going hungry will these idiots think they run this country.
    Thank you

Larry, sorry to disagree with you but the majority of the people are behind the President. The Tea Party amounts to about 28% of the Republican Party. Not all Americans accept the propaganda of the Tea Party and most of us believe that they are extremists and radical right wing fanatics. Look what has happened in Norway, 93 innocent people have been murdered by a self proclaimes right wing radical.

Not this socialist crap that is destroying our once great Country. Not the Country that I put on a uniform to too Nancy you better wake up or the markets are going to do just that.

whose righteous deeds have not been forgotten?
    do not consider yourself a giant;
and your neighbor small as a locust.
they who convets things that are not rightlly his
will not only be disappointed in his wish
but even lose the things that belong to him
let him be the first to restrain his tongue in a dispute
purge your soul from angry passion
that is the inheritance of fools
love the society of learned men
and strive to know more and more
of the ways and the works of your creator,

So lets see you are saying the conservative christians are wrong because they think their way is the only way and then we have liberal atheists who believe that their way is the only way .... Hmmmmm a prickly issue I am sure for someone of your intellegence.

kefa34, A true Christian does not have to wave a flag and browbeat others to be known as a Christian. True Christianity can be recognized by their actions. So far, all of those on the GOP side who are speaking loudly about their virtues are fakes and they do not behave like true God fearing Christians. They have poisoned the well and now true Christians are suspect.
