Obama's Bus Tour Stop #4: Decorah, IA![]() President Obama's bus tour finally made it to Iowa with a stop in Decorah at the Seed Savers Exchange Heritage Farm where it was much like the event at Cannon Falls where he talked about job growth and speaking to "real people in real places". He continued his administration's economic message and once again took questions from audience members. Boy, girl, boy, girl. Obama Bus Tour's Stop #3: Chatfield, MN![]() President Obama made a seemingly unplanned stop at a children's summer camp program in Chatfield, Minnesota. He spent several minutes shaking hands with about 45 kids in colorful "Valleyland Kids" t-shirts. The young kids, ranging from kindergarteners to 7th graders, then posed for a picture with the president. Clearly he needed some help getting up once the photo-op was over. Obama Bus Tour's Stop #2: Zumbrota, MN![]() President Obama's bus made a quick stop in Zumbrota, Minnesota at the Coffee Mill where he greeted people at the Main Street cafe/bakery. He spent several minutes working the ropeline outside but not before ordering pie, and lots of pie. According to pool reports, he ordered two slices each of apple pie, German chocolate, pumpkin, and "something with graham crackers." He also ordered an entire coconut cream pie which he gave to his assistant, Reggie Love. Obama Bus Tour's next stop: Old Market Deli![]() After his town hall at Hannah's Bend Park, President Obama's bus tour stopped briefly at the Old Market Deli in downtown Cannon Falls for lunch with a special group of veterans. The president munched on a turkey sandwich as he ate with five post-9/11 local veterans to discuss the challenges of rural veterans. The White House points out that there is a large percentage of veterans from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq who hail from rural areas and today's lunch was an opportunity to talk about the White House's Veterans Employment Initiative that was launched less than two weeks ago. Obama Bus Tour Stop #1: Cannon Falls, MN![]() In Cannon Falls, Minnesota this morning- the first stop on his three-day Midwest bus tour- President Obama laid out the differences between government and politics, saying that the latter, and not the former, is at fault for our current economic woes. "We have a political culture that doesn't seem willing to make the tough choices to move America forward," Obama said. "We have a willingness to play partisan games and engage in brinksmanship that not only costs us in terms of the economy now but also is going to place a burden on future generations. And the question is can we break out of that pattern?" Speaking to a crowd of about 500 people on the banks of the Cannon River, the president once again expressed his frustration with the climate in the nation’s capital and reiterated his call for people to "send a message to Washington that it’s time for the games to stop." FULL POST POTUS's schedule for Monday, August 15, 2011![]() President Obama started his day off this morning by boarding Marine One to go to Andrews Air Force Base to fly to Minnesota to kick off his three-day, three-states bus tour to hold town halls on the economy in five different towns. Today he'll hit the towns of Cannon Falls, Minnesota and Decorah, Iowa with events in both towns where the White House says the will "discuss ways to grow the economy, strengthen the middle class and accelerate hiring in communities and towns across the nation and hear directly from Americans, including small business owners, local families, private sector leaders, rural organizations, and government officials." Republicans have criticized the trip as being a tax-payer funded campaign tour but the White House calls these stops "official visits" that are focusing on the economy. On Friday, Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters, "There's obviously a very robust debate about the economic policies in this country that's ongoing in Iowa. That's something that the Iowa people are paying very close attention to. But it's also a debate that's happening in Minnesota. It's also a debate that's happening in Illinois. And he's going to go to all three states to talk about it." For the full schedule, click below. FULL POST |
