Time for Obama address set

The long national nightmare that was speechgate has come to an end. It appears the time has been set for President Obama's speech to Congress next Thursday. The latest from Speaker Boehner's office:

At his request, the Speaker has respectfully invited the President to address a Joint Session of Congress next Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

Moments later, the White House confirmed the time had been agreed upon. From Jay Carney:

After consulting with the Speaker’s office, the President has accepted an invitation to address a Joint Session of Congress at 7pm on Thursday, September 8th.

Quick question for The 1600 Report...Will CNN be replaying President Obama's speech later in the evening? I am a teacher and have Curriculum Night during the speech, so I will not be able to watch it live. Thanks!

      I'll save you the time...

"I'm the mighty President and I'm personally going to create ten million jobs...using your money. This is Bush's fault. Thank you, and good night."

      There you go.

        @ Dean,

Grow up. Its not like any sensible person in this country, doesn't realize there was a problem when we were losing 700K jobs per month three years ago. Of course modestly intelligent (trying not to call you stupid) people like you think it was no big deal. ITS THE WORST RESCESSION SINCE THE GREAT DEPRESSION – Mr. Einstein.

So let the adults debate this issue . You leading this discussion, is like tasking a toddler with balancing a check book. You obviously don't understand the size, complexity and scope of the problem at hand. Try faux news if you need bumper sticker slogans and more bashing of our President.

Hate to break it to you, but most of us....YOU KNOW the REAL AMERICANs actually DO Care, because there are about 16 million Americans out of work right now. YES WE CARE. Sounds like you were one of the people that listened to Dubya say "...don't worry about paying for the war, go shopping everything is fine" Or from Cheney "deficits don't matter, cough cough....unless there is a Democratic Black President.

But for shallow ignoramouses like you, that's probably hard to understand. Real Americans Care.

This gives the president the opportunity to sit in with the lawmakers and look just as bored as the rest of them. From the expressions on their faces, it seems like the decisions have already been made and all the voting etc. is just a formality that they find tedious.
Well excuse the hell out of the American people for wanting you to do your jobs ! Who the hell do you people think you are ? You are not gods ! You are as worthless as the dog crap on the collective shoe of the American working class ! A formality, a piece of red tape, a worthless pain in the ass not worth our time. That is what congress is right now. You are all so fired. You have no idea. If any of you worthless scum worked for a legitimate business, you would already be fired!
What gives congress the gall to decide when and how they will do their job ? Who do they think they work for ? They sure as hell represent the worst of Americans, not the best and brightest, but the conniving and the greedy, the absolute worst pieces of garbage ever to leach the lifeblood from the noble bones of American people! Good people ! You are not good people. Your all going to hell. The sooner the better IMO.

Be nice to see social solution to poverty,
Be nice to see freedom from want
        freedom from fear
        freedom of speech and expression
        freedom of religion
By including freedom from want as an
        essential human freedom Roosevelt
reinterpreted freedom so as to reduce
the tension that has existed historically
        between rugged individualism and
        social equity .
The right to a useful and Remunerative
Job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation
The right to earn enough to provide
        Adequate food and clothing and,
Recreation the right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return
Which will give him and his family a decent living
The right of every family to a decent home the right to adequate medical care and
the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health
The right to adequate protection from econmic fears of oldage sickness accident
and unemployment the right to a good education
this is what the republicans use to fight for the republicans was right them ,
Now president Obama and the democrat are right so you see the republicans do want change
it is the teaparty mainly hurting the process.

Its very easy to recognize the intellectually challenged, and you sir/maam have shown yourself. This president has worked through naturally disasters, man made disasters, somali pirates, two wars, four middle east uprisings (overturning 3 dictators), killed Osama Bin Laden, and scores of other Al Qaeda leaders...all while (YOU SAY) Tea-ing up a golf ball. That makes Our President alot better than childish poo poo throwers like you are giving him credit for – Wouldn't ya say ? How does it feel to sound completely stupid?

Obama has been trying to pass all kinds of ledg.....everything under the sun, they said no to it all....including stuff that was their idea and stuff they had voted yes for in the past. He will trounce any of the chumps the right will slog up their at the orders of the Tea Party end of their party or terrorist organization, which ever you prefer. And for those shocked by my use of the words terrorist and orginazation in the same sentence at the Republican party, well its true. They target inoccent women and children just like a TO.....they even called themselve an insurgency when the President came into office. Saying aloud that they wanted him to fail.......intern the USA fail.....isnt that Treason?

It must be frustrating to only have a "snarky" remark about every serious point of discussion. This president has accomplished a great deal in the past three years. I need not go through the littany of events but if you've listened or read anything other Sean "Panty / Hannity" or Rush My LimpBurger" then you would have a better appreciation for the what's been accomplished.

Geesh...Just think about Mubarrak some 36 years of dictatorship – Gone. Ghadafi some 40 years of rule – Gone. Osama Bin Laden living in a mansion in the middle of a Country with Nuclear Weapons (or as Bush would say NEWCLEAR weapons ) Dead and Buried at Sea. Not mention Somali Pirates that got wiped out without a moments notice. The BP oil spill, Tornedos, Tsunami's, Hurrican Irene (just recently)....This guy has been working very hard.

Is that what we hate about Obama? Get a life would ya?

Is it frustrating that every time you walk in a room, everybody is just a bit smarter than you or do you hang out with only GOP / TeaTards? Notwithstanding, I guess you were very happy when we had a president that couldn't put a coherent sentence together, let alone a foreign policy that made any sense, including something as mistated as "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED"

Obama had a super majority in the House and Senate in 2009 and 2010, so for everyone pretending to believe the GOP somehow blocked Obama . . . . that is a lie. Obama with the Democrats could have passed anything they wanted without a single GOP vote. Where are the jobs? Gitmo remains open! We are in three wars instead of the two under Bush and yet everyone refuses to demand the President be accountable for his empty promises. He somehow wants everyone to change their schedule, and yet he can't give this speech until after his 10 day vacation?? Why not give this speech at Martha's Vineyard? How about instead of playing your 73rd or 74th round of golf, give it then? Everything somehow must be racial to everyone who expects this President to be accountable for his promises he has yet to keep. I wish these people would see the same people who demanded Bush keep his promises are now the same ones demanding Obama keep his.

First off, Democrats had a majority (58), not a super-majority (60). Some of the D's we had were from conservative states that just wanted a more middle-ground view compared to a more extreme republican view.

As for your comments about lies, check out politifact.com. It lists what things he promised and the level he's kept the promises. A lot of the things he promised were stopped by Republicans, some of them he just didn't go forth with...but he's kept or compromised on far more promises than he's broken.

What was a simple scheduling conflict has been made into a conflict without substance and what it tells us is more about the Press than the President or Congress because since when did a schedule conflict become BREAKING NEWS! It should have simply been resolved the way that it was done with a simple note and comfirmation as these things usually are handled. GAWD!

    September 2, 2011 at 9:07 am |
    • Thai

To be honest, the White House Communications Director made it a big deal by tweeting the details before getting the OK from Boehner. The media is simply reporting the news. What would be "not making a big deal out of it" for you? Not reporting it at all? Simply reporting news doesn't mean anyone is trying to tell you it's a big deal.

It must be really hard to continually try to downplay the actions of Pres. Obama. How can you even act like 'it was a simple scheduling error' is legit when the debate schedule has been known for quite some time and this is 'his competition' ? It is obvious that he was playing a juvenile game, trying to exert the power of his office and he lost. He had to- it would have been a disaster for him to have the tv ratings showing him getting trounced because most people at least want to know who is running against him...and he wouldn't do it BEFORE the debate because his speech would be exposed for what it really is- incompetent garbage. This is his third year in office and his big jobs bill had to wait, not only until after he took a vacation, but also another 'week or so'. Saddest part- 2 out of 5 still support this guy.

@ Thai____The Presidents office staff made a scheduling conflict, simple and it was made a huge deal by the Press and us. I am not making excuses for the WH but loosen up things are much too serious to sweat the small things like this. The People who would watch the GOP/T debate probably won't watch the Presidents address to congress anyway. Thanks.

@4merRepubCT; LOL! I don't blame them either. It's just going to be another pathetic Dog & Pony Show where the biggest mission of the 'debate' for those loons is, who can do the best job at blasting and berating the President! No real agendas, ideas nor proposals; all it'll be about again is "Let's beat-down BARACK OBAMA the best we can, and whoever does it best will be the winner and the GOP/TEAPARTY candidate"! "We've got to make sure he's a 'One term President"! THAT'S IT! Nothing else, zilch NADA!

    September 2, 2011 at 12:50 pm |
  13. Liz Carter in Georgia

'Juvenile game'? Had it been ANY of the other 43, they wouldn't have even had to exert the power of their office, NOT TO SPEAK OF LOSING! It would have just been a done deal. They'd have had to make scheduling adjustments or changes! You got that wrong! The insubordinate exertion is yet again, coming from the status quo system of bigotry and supremacy! They want us all to know that THEY'RE still in CONTROL...This President cannot, nor will they let him tell them what to do! They'd be FIRED on ANY other job!

    September 2, 2011 at 1:15 pm |

@ Liz_____Do you think that some of this noise about scheduling may have some "I dare you to ask us" attitude of some of the old timers in Congress, jealousy and envy rules.

@catwill; Yes. That's exactly what I think. Jealousy, BIGGOTRY, and eny has ruled ever since he's been there! You know you two....I think it has ALOT to do with the President Saying, all these GOP/Tea-tards are gonna do is waste alot of airtime bashing this office ...WITH NO SOLUTIONS OF THEIR OWN. But more importantly it has to do with the rest of the GOP / Redumblicans saying "WHO DOES that Uppity XXXXXX Think that he is????" We don't care if he is the president. We've never respected him and never will.

You act like that if Barry was not black then all Republicans would vote for him. Get real. They oppose most of his polices and actions / inactions not his skin color.

You complained that President Bush did not close GITMO, yet Barry keeps it open and you support him. The only difference is their skin color. Does that mark you a racist?

Your guy's numbers are sinking faster than the economy. Maybe you should spend more time trying to actually answer someone and not just make up excuses.

  15. Liz Carter in Georgia

Jay, blah-blah-blah! You're a sick person! YES! As hard as it would be for the GOP to vote or go with President Obame against the rich and wealthy, I KNOW they'd go along with the President, if he was at the least, WHITE! I believe that they'd do it because they're under the false impression that it would ensure them taking back the Whitehouse back in 2012! Now THAT may not have anything to do with race, but I doubt it.

    September 4, 2011 at 5:00 pm |
  16. Liz Carter in Georgia

Why in the world do you keep trying to pass off that weak, stupid explanation or reason as to why this President is being handled and treated the way he has, and continues to be, Jay? People aren't that naive, nor are we all so 'cracked out', that we aren't paying attention and just don't care, OK? YOU and the rest of your ilk ought to stop your BS, because I believe with my whole heart that it's only being swallowed and absorbed primarily by the hideously biased, bigots of the group of sick OBAMA-haters!
