Morning Briefing: Mining for gold out west![]() President Obama is in full fundraising mode to begin the week, hitting seven separate events on the west coast before returning to Washington Tuesday afternoon. Media outlets are covering the glitzy events in full force, especially highlighting Lady Gaga’s quick chat with the POTUS at a private dinner Sunday night. Meanwhile back on Washington, another government shutdown looks to be a possibility and the Washington Post does a fact check of the president’s recent trip to Cincinnati to tout his jobs plan before a crumbling bridge. [POLITICO] As Sides Dig In, Panel on Deficit Has an Uphill Fight [NYTimes] Tennessee Senator Takes a Stand for Compromise [NYTimes] Obama’s strained symbolism at an Ohio River bridge [WashPost] Obama takes digs at Perry, GOP debate audiences![]() In the latest sign the race for the White House is well under way, President Obama took direct aim at Texas Gov. Rick Perry Sunday night as well as some of the now-infamous crowd reactions at recent Republican presidential debates. “Some of you here may be folks who actually used to be Republicans but are puzzled by what's happened to that party. I mean, has anybody been watching the debates lately?” Obama told supporters at a private fundraiser hosted in Woodside, California Sunday night, where tickets cost as much as $35,800 per person. “You've got a governor whose state is on fire denying climate change," Obama continued, in a clear reference to Perry. "It's true. You've got audiences cheering at the prospect of somebody dying because they don't have health care and booing a service member in Iraq because they're gay.” POTUS Day Ahead: Networking at LinkedIn![]() I guess it’s only natural for the president to pay homage to one of the social media giants during his trip through California Monday. POTUS begins the day with a town hall event at LinkedIn, the resume/career building website that went public earlier this year to much fanfare. Following that event, Obama jets to San Diego for a fundraising event and then to Los Angeles for two additional fundraisers. The president’s entire west coast swing, which lasts through Tuesday, is expected to net his campaign and the Democratic National Committee at least $8 million. Full schedule after the jump: |
