Better than expected...

From the CNN Wire:

(CNN) - The U.S. economy gained 103,000 jobs in September, while the unemployment rate held steady at 9.1%.

I contact my Senator (Chambliss) about his earmarks $3,100,000 for the Chattahoochee River Rec. area and $7,900,00 for repairs to the Courthouse in Savannah, Ga. His response was “I reserve the right to ask Congress and President for critical funding”. Unemployment and job creation must not be critical enough for him or any other Republican. The GOP and the extremists in Congress won't even compromise or work with the President but they sure as heck will give $260,000 to squirrels and $200,000 for a simulator and the millions given away as for mentioned. What a way to govern bang up job Congress.

It sounds like your Senator is spending money in your state to create jobs. What's the problem?

Aren't these the kind of "shovel ready" and "infrastructure" jobs Obama wants to spend money on? Sounds like Chambless has bought in to the Obama jobs plan. You should be THANKING him.

Thank God, the public is finally waking up ... which will result in the corrupt Obama administration ... and the dregs of society who support Obama, returning to powerless mediorcrity ... where they belong !!!

Same old...same old. Howard is like needle stuck in the scratch on a broken record. Howard you and Jay are just miserable because the numbers are pointed up. Actually the jobs created have mainly been in the private sector and the losses have been in the public sector. Which in and of itself is good news. As of September 2011 – 2,577,000 private sector jobs have created since the bottom of the recession.

Worse-than-expected would be a better phrase. This president promised 8% unemployment and millions of jobs. We were told that he was the smartest guy in the room. That the previous administration were idiots. Now the media is painting him as the underdog, the kid with bright ideas. Let's not forget that this underdog has a billion dollar reelection war chest. A virtual billion dollar corporation ranting abut large greedy corporations. Oh the irony.

My advice to the president? Take off your bedroom slippers, put on your marching shoes. Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. Seriously, don't gloat over these numbers. A kid that gets a D, when he was expecting an F, still failed the test.

LOL. That's a joke. It is considered a "win" if the unemployment did not increase. What a joke!

What they did not tell the American Public, is that 45.000 of the jobs were Verizon employees going back to work after being on strike, Come on people are you not sick of the lies of the Obama liars

yep I bet this liberal site will let this be posted

The Verizon employees returning to work were mentioned this morning by CNN as part of the overall figures for September, there was also an upgraded for the number of jobs created in both July and August. Unemployment figures are reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The White House does not issue that report.

@MTATL67 under other circumstances both Jay and C-Lo would bemoan the fact that Chambliss was applying for pork-barrel spending, and would maybe even utter the words raise taxes. He is the senator who has ranted and raved about pork-barrel projects, and tried to put a stop to it...now he is running for office again. Isn't this Chambliss the Rethugliklan who played dirty politics when running against wounded war-vet Max Cleland?

It was a BIG LIE, as people have come to expect from the so called President, he thinks we are all stupid, guess what we will show him and his Senate who is stupid

As usual, any good news reported is met by people who don't want any good news to happen. Along with that jobs report was a glimmer that a double-dip recession just might not materialize.

Just look at how quickly they piled on with the negatives.

In case you have not heard we need 150,000 jobs a month just to keep up with population growth. Most economist say we need 350,000 to 400,000 for moderate growth. Any thing less than that is a failure.

      October 8, 2011 at 9:13 am |
      • jean2009

Yes, Jay I do know that it will take more than 150,000 jobs a month, but 150,000 jobs a month is better than the 540,000 jobs lost in November 2008, the 320,000 lost in October 2008, the 240,000 lost in September 2008.The total 2.6 million lost from April through December of 2008. That my friend was the failure.

No one has said it will be easy digging out of that mess.

Your right & those same economists agree with Obama's calculations of how many jobs the stimulus bill saved or created. Those same economists also agree with the numbers in his job act. I don't understand the only thing the Tea Party seems to stand for is no bridges, no healthcare, no roads, no schools. The only thing they seem to agree on is that the people living below the poverty line pay too little in taxes & the wealthy that create jobs(ok the jobs are in China) shouldn't have to pay taxes or they should pay less. That really leave the middle class & small businesses stuck with the burden. If you going to quote economists as correct, please try for a little consistency.

Unlike brain dead, deer in the headlights, unconditionally devoted, obama groupies, like you ... the rest of us can easily read between the lines of the obama P.R. B.S. ... which is continually fabricated, and force fed to the American people ... so that suckers, like you will continue to donate ... support, and defend this self serving charlatan. The problem is that your foolish, misguided, gullible actions, are literally destroying America !!!

The conservative right and the religious right want President Obama to fail, so they can sweep the government with their dogma and take us back to the robber baron days – where we have to live like those 1950 style shows like Father Knows Best (because women can only be secretary's or house wives) and people of color or in same-sex relationships are arrested at will. Reagan had a recession, Bush 1 kept the recession going, Bush 2/Cheney destroyed the country/broke every law imaginable/tried to start a religous war. Now the repubs in congress and their corporate donors are doing everything to keep the economy in the tank while blaming the President. Vote these conservatives out before its too late. They hate you, they hate the middle class, and they would ship people of color over the border in a second. President Obama has keep the economy from at least getting worse, despite the repub effort to cause it to crash so the President will be defeated. The repubs goal is to ensure the President loses – they care nothing about you or the economy because they are rich. Fight the repubs with everything you have – bring back the middle class.
