Celebrating Valentine’s Day like a president

(CNN) - Hours after President Obama advised men everywhere to “go big” this Valentine's Day, he himself treated the first lady to a dinner out Tuesday evening at a top-notch Washington-area restaurant.

The restaurant of choice was Vermilion, an Alexandria, VA establishment that has consistently ranked among the capital’s best. It no doubt offers a menu suited for a president (and a presidential salary), featuring such dishes as Garlic Crusted Fluke and Slow Braised Grass-fed lamb.

The first couple departed to the unannounced locale around 7:00 p.m. last night, arriving back about two yours later. Earlier in the day, the president hinted he had something special planned.

"I've gotta take my wife out to dinner. And I would advise anybody watching to make sure they don't miss out on this,” the president said during an interview with Atlanta-based Fox 5.

The special day also resulted in a rare presidential appearance on Twitter:

"Hey, @MichelleObama: Happy Valentine's Day,” the president tweeted himself yesterday, according to his campaign.

he?ll be pinsuhg his colleagues to make comprehensive tax reform part of the deal. Wyden has introduced legislation to eliminate loopholes for special interests, and in turn lower tax rates for everyone else. This morning on OPB?s Think Out Loud, Wyden said the approach was proven in the 80?s when President Ronald Reagan worked with Congressional Democrats on a tax deal. The result, he says was strong economic growth.?Folks who are now unemployed, might be on food stamps, something like that, they?d be in private sector jobs, in effect paying taxes on the income that they earn. That?s we saw that in the 80?s. I believe that?s what we?ll see again,? Wyden said. The tax legislation Wyden has introduced is co-sponsored by a Republican colleague, Dan Coats of Indiana. The senators say their idea would be budget neutral.ouch that's gotta hurt for all the Reagan tax bashing you do so love to engage in.Wyden and Coats also tried this last year but of course it fell on Harry Reids turned off hearing aid. This is also tag teaming with the growing bipartisan and business Go Big movement. A group of 36 GOP and Dems, along with 60 business entities, who are hounding the SuperCommittee to go well beyond the $1.5 tril mandate in cuts. Now, for the record, conservatives have been supportive, and offered, IRS reform as a way to do revenue increases much as Reagan did in his turnaround of the economy. While you may not figure that out, I'm actually pleasantly surprised to hear uber-liberal Ron Wyden from Oregon actually publically admit the success of the policies and effects on the nation's struggling economy. The spending is a separate issue. The problem with the talking points always used is that the conservatives or GOP are portrayed as refusing to put tax increases on the table. That's a pretty generic argument, since IRS reform does, in effect, constitution a tax increase for businesses but lowered taxes rates for individual incomes including the CEOs. Shareholders may make less profit on their investments, but they will keep more of what they do earn for personal choice of consumption spending.Instead the tax hikes argument from the lib/progs always revolve around the Bush tax policies sunsetting. Before it was only for the $80 bil approx for those evil wealthy. Now the clamor is to let it all sunset so the $450 bil approx from everyone else is also ripped out of the taxpayers pockets. The simply reality is, this ain't Bill Clintons dot com bubble era anymore. Therefore those tax hikes are simply not sustainable and will worsen the nation's consumption decline further. While not perfect, and I haven't finished reading the entire bill (have some disagreements with some), I have to say that Wyden-Coats 2nd attempt to re implement the Reagan tax policies to jump start the economy via their is a good starting point for common ground for both parties.Yet the leadership of both parties seem to be burying it deep in committees. Looks like the underlings in Congress are going to have to rebel against their own leadership. Something that wouldn't bother me in the least.Reply

Some people, like you, are easily fooled by photo ops, public relations spin, and manufactured images, to the point of disregarding the fact that this poor excuse for a President is running America into the ground !!!

      • Obama for 2012

Howard, you are such a pathetic creature. If you were half the man President Obama is you would recognize "excellence" when you see and read it. I feel sorry for your "man" "woman" or wife, whichever is your preference. He or she probably didn't receive anything or not much of anything for Valentine's day. Photo op my foot, these people are for real and have a genuine true and beautiful relationship.

And, once again we see how Obama, and his academic inner circle, have absolutely no idea of how the economy works in the real world. Its bad enough that Obama's failed policies have cost us a credit downgrade, Trillions in debt, massive inflation, high unemployment numbers, gas which has nearly doubled in price, since Obama got elected, along with a crippled domestic oil production, a decline in home values, a decline in domestic manufacturing, etc. ... and, yet millions of Americans are blindly buying into Obamas ongoing rhetoric about how we need to tax more, and spend more. It's time for Americans to WAKE UP, and kick this fool out of the White House, before he destroys this country, beyond repair !!!

odumbo 2012 ... You blind fool ... Obama has played the AMERICAN PEOPLE again ... and, the only reason he keeps getting away with it over and over again, is because of the obama stooges, like you, who continually defend, support, and excuse him, no matter how badly he messes up this country. If this corrupt, radical, narcissist gets another four years, without the fear of getting reelected holding him in check, he will be even more arrogant and power hungry ... and, you will be able to kiss American democracy goodbye

@Howard these miserable out of date posts are just a rehash of your normal unoriginal rants. The only stooge around is you.

Obumer has increased the Debt by,,,, WAY TOO MUCH.

Look up Obumber and his RANT about Bush and the DEBT INCREASE with the FEDS!

Bush's debt, plus the interest on that debt, didn't disappear the moment he left office. We will be paying for Bush's borrowed for deficit spending for the next 20 years.

Were the Tourists hoping to ESCAPE from the USA to go to North Korea for the NORTH-KOREAN DREAM?

I am getting ready to open the

Don't make me do a Fist Bump with the 1st Lady.

That was a long time ago, Greg. A generation has pseasd. We are in the end-game here. The hard debt ceiling that I mentioned before, the non-statutory one that comes when people no longer want to buy U.S. debt without getting sky-high interest in return, is nearly upon us. The only people talking about moving in the right direction, about cutting spending, are Republicans. I am not happy with the GOP. But they are the only group even remotely moving to do the right thing.Federal revenues will recover when we get out of this economic depression. We will not get out of this depression with the current Democrat President and Senate. More taxes are not the answer. You can't get blood out of a stone more taxes mean less economic activity at this point. And more debt is not the answer the end of easy credit is staring us in the face. And you can't force businesses to expand. The only thing that will end this is what hasn't been tried: cutting the size of the government and backing off from the intrusive anti-business environment that's been createdReply

      Just wondering,,,

is that Michelle's Mean Face or her Happy Face in the PHOTO-OP?

Both are not showing any Humps or Bumps, but looks like each are in their straight jackets!

If Barack is paying, then I am sure she is NOT smiling,,,,

If the POOR FOLKS are Paying,,,, I am sure it is MY MEAN FACE!

So, if Barack Pays, she is Upset, and if the Poor Folks are Paying she is not happy...
Who is paying for this Valentines Party?

There just aren't enough hateful, ignorant, intolerant, innane, uneducated, knuckle draggers like you in this country to vote against him. However, the pathetic person you see in the mirror everyday....well, unfortunately that will last for the rest of your life.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day like a president

    Well that is the Headline...

Why is the word "president" not capitalized?

Do THEY know something that we don't know?

I have never called Barack wHoseHinnie,,, President with a capital "P".

He is, however, the guy currently living in the White House.
He is more like a Commie and has been the Anti-Constitutional Guy in the White House!

    • Trace

Grow up! or are you stil in Junior High where name calling is still practiced? Don't you know that anyone with any sense of intelligence isn't moved by your idiotic rhetoric? People have called this president every name in the book, "Commie" is probably one of the most popular used by the trailer trash community. Hasn't it become apparent to you and the other GOP/Tea Potty mouth breathers, these type of insults will not reduce this president's popularity or likeability?

President Obama is something you haters have never seen....Drama and Scandal free. Just a regular guy, from a middle class family that excelled in academics. Love it, Hate it, but you can't ignore it....Lie about it at your own peril because smart people will see through the faux non news foolishness everytime....guaranteed

      Grammar Rule #3:
Capitalize a person's title when it precedes the name. Do not capitalize when the title is acting as a description following the name.
      Grammar Rule # 5
Capitalize the titles of high-ranking government officials when used before their names. Do not capitalize the civil title if it is used instead of the name.

      The president will address Congress.
All senators are expected to attend.
The governors, lieutenant governors, and attorneys general called for a special task force.
Governor Fortinbrass, Lieutenant Governor Poppins, Attorney General Dalloway, and Senators James and Twain will attend.

        In my little world,,,

I put Honor on the TITLE of the HIGHEST POSITION of the
        FREE WORLD's Leader,
by Capitalizing the Title of that Highest Position.

Might I add that the Title of the Dictator of CUBA's Title, nor the Title of the Dictator of Venesuela's Title, is not Capitalized... No Honor there.

        Do you see the difference?

        God Bless the USA.

        God is Capitalized here.
