Yes, Obama is following Linsanity

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was naturally asked Wednesday if the president is keeping tabs of breakout New York Knicks star Jeremy Lin. The answer: you bet.

The president is an avid sports fan and a particularly avid basketball fan. We were speaking about Jeremy Lin on Marine One as we flew here to Andrews Air Force Base this morning. If anybody caught the highlights from last night, they were pretty breathtaking. It’s just a great story and the president was saying as much this morning. Obviously it’s terrific for the New York Knicks, but it’s the kind of sports story that transcends the sport itself. It involves people who don’t necessarily pay attention. I got my wife to watch the highlight this morning. She was pretty amazed and she doesn’t watch basketball. It’s a great story and yes, he is very impressed and fully up to speed.

The comments came during a quick press gaggle with reporters on Air Force One.

Another appeal to America based on celebrity, pop culture, and sports, painting obama as a 'cool' guy ... in an attempt to distract us all from the fact that obama is a lousy leader, who is running America into the ground.
Obama has played the AMERICAN PEOPLE again ... and, the only reason he keeps getting away with it over and over again, is because of the obama stooges, who continually defend, support, and excuse him, no matter how badly he messes up this country. If this corrupt, radical, narcissist gets another four years, without the fear of getting reelected holding him in check, he will be even more arrogant and power hungry ... and, you will be able to kiss American democracy goodbye

Go peddle your lies on FOX NEws or someplace. We get that you don;t like the President... That's the PRESIDENT of our country that was voted for BY THE PEOPLE... not put in office by 7 judges like the last one. You're too stupid to actually be allowed to vote, so I must assume you're a GOP TEA Party puke and this country isn't in the stone age any more so go catch a ride to Iran. They LOVE your type over there.

Yeah ... voted in 2008, by the people ... as a result of a biased mainstream media, who never vetted him ... and, voted in, after making numerous empty campaign promises ... like transparency. But, as long as odumbo has blindly brain dead stooges, like you, who will defend him, make excuses for him, and praise him ... no matter how badly he keeps ruining America, this country is going to circle the bowl.

if you study obama's bio you will soon find he has not excelled in anything he has done... even his magna cum laude from harvard indicates an 80% or a bouts GPA...and by the way his records at columbia are sealed as well. He just does not have the brain power or resume to govern and the mess we are in domestically and abroad indicate this... even with the lame stream media pandering and manipulating as they do people are catching on the the fact WE HAVE BEEN DUBED BY OBAMA and his ilk.

um unless you attended Harvard with an equal or higher GPA me thinks you are not qualified to make such statements. Secondly, W's GPA was much lower and it is widely accepted by everyone with a brain that the only thing he excelled at was fracking things up and disappearing, while leaving someone else to clean up the mess. IGNORANCE is indeed dangerous. You may need to re-examine your own brain power and accomplishments before making such unqualified statements.

Seriously? This sounds like a cheap carbon copy of some legitimate beefs against Bush four years ago, flavored with a pinch of socialism, a dash of childish insults, and a quarter cup of End of Times. I know your feelings got hurt, when intelligent people tried to point out the obvious, but come on . . .

      It's been almost four years.

Grab a couple of cold ones. Relax. Think of something original. And please at least make it relevant?

      February 15, 2012 at 6:01 pm |

Obama is following out CNN and Fox going to try and turn this into some sort of socialist agenda by the President..Even though he's an America christian......He just so happens to be a great ball player.....

I dont understand what this has to do with socialism. Most of you uneducated hicks dont even know what real socialism is like. You just use the word so freely as a fear tactic (something the previous president was very good at).

I noticed most republicans or conservatives or whatever you want to call yourselves are very good at spewing exaggeration after exaggeration; yet never reply or defend what your claims.

GOPians: surplus in half truths and delusion, low supply on facts and sanity.

make your case for socialism...go ahead. At least your honest and admit who you are...I'd like for obama to admit who he is.

Socialism is where the rich are deprived of their wealth to knock them down to "equality" levels. To be like everyone else. For example, old China. I dont see that happening in this day and age in this country. Just exaggerated bunches thinking so. Raising the taxes on the wealthy, for example, is greatly exaggerated. It will not deprive them of all their wealth. Thats my case, now whats yours?

Just saw the video of your buddy John Boehner speaking about tax deal. He said "I will not let the president raise taxes on working class americans." John Boehner, the same guy that said "let the chips fall" referring to the millions of people about to lose their homes.

Its also very ironic how I hear all this 'dividing the country' talk. The reality is that the hard right-wingers hate anyone with different ideals. Wouldnt that be the actions and attitudes of real dividers? You CANNOT classify Obama as a divider because he has always been open for negotiations and compromise.

Socialism is a process by which representatives of the peolpe decide the course of economic function and control the resources which allows production. Prime examples of modern Socialist states are Sweden, Israel, Germany. The rationale for this is explained by Ben Franklin:
"All the property that is necessary to a Man, for the Conservation of the Individual and the Propagation of the Species, is his natural Right, which none can justly deprive him of: But all Property superfluous to such purposes is the Property of the Publick, who, by their Laws, have created it, and who may therefore by other laws dispose of it, whenever the Welfare of the Publick shall demand such Disposition. He that does not like civil Society on these Terms, let him retire and live among Savages. He can have no right to the benefits of Society, who will not pay his Club towards the Support of it." 1783.

everything the president does causes some repo nutjob to make nasty comments. He is a basketball fan big deal so are lot's of people. The fact that he is knowledgable about the game should come as no surprise. He is a bright guy. You don't hear them talking about any of the repo candidates . It is like they are embarassed to acknowledge them so they pick on the president instead.

Socialism has a root word that Repugnants just don't understand – Social.
Communism also has a root word they just don't get – Commune.
The Soviet Union was (and still is) a fascist country.
The Repugnants never have a coherent debate, just mudslinging.

Shows how much I know about basketball. Hopefully too the watered down initial impression will pass the censors.

I personally didn't support the president and probably won't in the 2012 elections. But let's ease up here for a second. Two things are apparent: 1. There is a human element to our leaders, and if the president wants to blow off some steam by watching a sport that he loves, especially from his childhood, who are we to criticize that? I support that. God knows that his job needs a little "me time."

But, more importantly 2., the level of illogical and inconsistent statements made by both fringes of the either party. Diehard liberals criticized Bush for his consistent time off to his ranch in Crawford, TX or watching a baseball game in Arlington, and the fringe conservatives were hard press to defend him. Let me throw a newsflash out here to both groups that like to stand in isolation and on the edge of extreme madness: you were never going to vote for your candidate, so whatever you say is pretty much white noise. At least be creative. You know that Obama/Bush staffers and probably the presidents themselves are taking your comments and pretty much laughing about it. Try being a bit more creative and come up with a different way to solve our nation's problems.

If anything, I'd like to see the president and Lin get together whenever their schedule allows and see what they can do to inspire the rest of the nation. I'm sure there are already some works in place once the NBA season is over and the campaigns are in full swing this summer, but some sort of PSA would be great whether it is children exercising, education, perseverance, etc. there is a great story here to tell.
