White House predicts 2 million more jobs in 2012

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - The United States economy is on the road to recovery, the White House said Friday, with stronger job growth expected this year.

But income inequality, Europe's debt crisis, and continued weakness in the housing market could still pose challenges, according to a report released by President Obama's Council of Economic Advisers.
Before Obama even took office, America had lost 4.4 million jobs. Track his progress since then.

"While actions taken to prevent a deeper recession and to strengthen the recovery have made a difference, the nation is still recovering from that profound crisis and the problems that led to it," the Economic Report of the President said.

The document, which totals 454 pages, is the administration's blueprint for the economy, which outlines a plan to "recover, rebalance and rebuild." Much like Obama's recent State of the Union address, it focuses heavily on income inequality, and building an America where "everyone gets a fair shot."

Gallup just reported the real unemployment figure is 19.2%...and we now know obama manipulated the u3 unemployment number...so much for hope and change. Knowing this...just this one LIE why would anyone vote obama into another four years? Why don't the democratic party field another candidate...while they still have a party?

We know obama has failed us domestically and overseas. What are we giving our children and grandchildren? Why don't we demand more of our leadership? We voted in a president who had no resume for the presidency...who sealed his records and who has horrible mentors and associates...when will we demand good qualified leadership?

Don't accuse someone of giving misleading information when you're blatantly doing just that. The only one trying to manipulate information to coincide with their own beliefs is you. That 19.2% you quote from Gallup came out in April of 2011, and is not the percentage of those unemployed, it's their underemployment figure which is based off of those who work part time but want to work full time AND those who are completely Unemployed. So basically, you're counting unemployed + people who have jobs but need more hours. This is quite different than looking solely at people who have no job.

It's a high number and it really needs to come down, and for those who do have part time jobs, I understand that you still might not be making enough to get by. What we need though is rational and factual discussion of the problems and how to fix them. Throwing out some numbers and passing them off as something else, followed by a swipe at the President(with no mention of our broken Congress and the issues facing political parties) is an obvious sign that you're either ignorant of what you're talking about, or you have a biased political agenda. Both are toxic to this country.

and we don't have a broken senate...you are a nut case. Sorry, I'm not underemployed I own a business...I'm an EMPLOYER.

And speaking of a broken congress...the last election put people in who were ask to stop this pelosi/obama mess and they are doing just that. What is being broken is obama and his marxist thugs.

Wall street, oil, big busines, women voters, obama, and the young voters know obama is finished...soon we all will know it.

oh that gallup report was current..just last week. You should also note obamas job number was seasonally adjusted were as gallops is not...and we have a very mild winter, so the obama numbers are a stretch...and then remember obama has not explained there are less jobs available now than ever before and he considers this...so this adjusts the unemployment figure even lower. We are in one horrible mess with no end in sight...this, none of the politicians want you to know.

But when the GOP starts running against obama....much of this will come out and it will be ugly.

I appreciate you clearing up those misleading numbers. Enemies on tyhe other side of the aisle than the President are relentless at confusing the situation and misrepresenting the facts. It's all about makin g Obama look bad, even if they have to take the rest of us down with them. Same thing they did to Clinton. Extremism wrapped in jesus. Makes me want to take a shower just thinking about it.

@NONSENSE2012 Nothing like fudging those figures with no clarification. Underemployed and unemployed are two separate issues...and Reuter's disagrees with Gallup and puts the current rate at 8.3% for the unemployed which is even lower than the president's number of 8.9%.

As per usual you have problems with factual reports.

tell us, if you will, how obama came up with that U3 figure? How he adjusted the job numbers downward and etc.. Or is this new to you?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has been around since 1884. It seems you are stupid enough to think the current president has time to change the way they have always tracked and researched to come to the number of unemployed. The figure of those unemployed has always been seasonally adjusted.

As for those idiots of the teapotty who were elected by fools like you I think come 2012 they will be gone.

@jean... the point is...sorry you missed it again. Well, obama is not (understandably) giving us a true picture. The economy will take years to rebuild. The hope and change mantra from obama was hot air...he has no plan, nothing new under the sun...and we need something new. Moving to the socialist model and continuing to print money is not the answer. We need a leader who has a resume not built on using taxpayer funds to redistribute our wealth and grown the already horribly hugh federal govt... NO MORE politics as usual.

Obama has been giving the American people's stimulus money to companies who contribute to his reelection campaign.
It's called corruption, and the American people are being used and ripped off !!!

The Obama spin masters would like us to believe that the economy is bouncing back, but when I go to the grocery store, and I get nothing for my money ... or, when I drive to the gas pumps, and I pay $4.00 a gallon ... or, when I check the sinking value of my home ... or, when my college grad son tries to look for a job ... the truth hits me harder than the spin coming out of the White House. I believe that the only way to save the American economy, is to replace Obama ASAP !!!

hahaha... under employment don't count....those who gave up looking for work don't count...what counts is obama's phony numbers... you know the ones that make him looks though he is a SUCCESS...now that is funny.

So you are selecting to believe Gallup over the administrations numbers. Why? You shouldn't necessarily trust numbers just because they agree with an opinion you've already decided on.

Gallup reports the unemployment rate at 19.2 percent. Offical Government figures are 8.3 percent. Obama just requested raising the debt limit again another 1,3 Trillion. If more people are working and paying taxes why does the debt limit need to be raised so soon. something dosen't compute. Gallup is probably a lot closer than official government figures.

just can't believe the facts can you? Want so much to believe in the slight of hand...the it dont cost a thing...we'll make the wealthy pay for it. We can negotiate with terrorists, and we can run the world (today) on green energy. And, we will show you how to eat..and we will change your mortgage for you and it is ALL FREE...just vote for me, trust me!

I really feel sorry for you...you lie to yourself because it feels good. God help you brother/sister!

@jean...what exactly is the truth? The middle east is solid and all is well. The dollar will remain the global standard. We will have good paying jobs. Taxes will be lower and the economy will prosper.... Where is this new obama america? Where is the hope? When a president don't deliver...he is gone, and that is the hope.

        February 18, 2012 at 7:27 pm |
      • jean2009

@NONSENSE2012....Maybe the best question would be: Would the Middle East currently be in a better place had we not attacked Iraq looking for WMD?

According to the Economic Times the dollar will remain the dominate currency for a long time to come.
Even if we moved to the Gold Standard the dollar would still defacto be the standard for gold.

As in all cycles jobs will come back, wages will increase, home values will improve, and taxes will move back to what they should be. Not some "pie in the sky" unreal joke conceived in a wrong-headed move by George W. Bush.

FYI- President Obama has delivered....The fact is you didn't realize that the trench was as long and as deep as the one dug by the Bush policies. At age 76 I have seen many things and many of these cycles.

Things weren't that great in the late 40's and early 50's....nor were they great under Ronald Reagan.
