Obama Campaign Releasing Movie Trailer

Team Obama is releasing a movie trailer Thursday, followed by a debut of a 17-minute campaign film next week. The film, "The Road We've Traveled," comes out on March 15 and will chronicle the president's first term in office, campaign officials said.

But the trailer - just like with real movies - comes out Thursday .

The trailer is narrated by Tom Hanks, who asks, "How do we understand this president and his time in office? Do we look at the day's headlines, or do we remember what we as a country have been through?" In interviews, senior strategist David Axelrod, former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, Vice President Joe Biden and others recall the behind-the-scenes discussions about the economic crisis, health care reform, the auto industry bailout and the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

"His advisers would ask: Where to begin? Which urgent need would he put first?" Hanks asks.

Breaking up the interviews are now-iconic images of the president accepting the Democratic presidential nomination in Denver and speaking in Chicago's Grant Park on election night. It also includes close-ups of Obama and his White House team in what appear to be exceptionally tense meetings.

If the message isn't clear, the graphics spell it out: "This is a film about determination and progress." Campaign manager Jim Messina says the film is about the president's first-term accomplishments. Like other campaign films, it's clearly intended to build a campaign narrative. Based on the trailer, it seems that narrative is, at least in part, about a president who managed unexpected crises with resolve and a steady hand.

Campaign officials said they'll show the movie at house parties and events across the country. The film is by Oscar-winning director Davis Guggenheim, who also made the president's 2008 campaign documentaries.

Check out the trailer here.

Republican National Committee spokesperson Kirsten Kukowski had this to say about the Obama campaign's new video:

“The American people don't need a movie trailer or a 17 minute documentary to know what the president accomplished over the past three years. Unfortunately Americans feel Obama’s accomplishments each and every day after President Obama led our country to higher unemployment, record debt, and higher gas prices. The question is what does another Obama term mean for America? From the promise of fewer jobs, tax increases, more debt, and the implementation of Obamacare, we literally cannot afford another four years of President Obama.”

Wimpy – you never seem to bring anything to the conversation. What on the list do you think is not true/spun? It may be nice to have a dialog with you if we only knew what you stood for.

Blah, Blah, Blah!!! Sounds like Rush Limbaugh has a diciple, lol!!! If you don't like the president, don't vote for him. HE WILL STILL BEAT ROMNEY WITHOUT YOUR REPUBLICAN VOTE!!! He doesn't expect Republicans to like what he does. He is only after Democrats and half of the Independents. Since there are 77 Million registered Democrats and 55 million registered Republicans in America, he doesn't need ANY REPUBLICANS!! Or did you fail basic math!!! See you in November! 🙂

Wow....you should have started with the US being on the brink of failing as Bush walked out. Just like it takes time to fix your own finances....it takes time to fix the US problems....and if the GOP's goal had been to help instead of obstructing, we might have gotten something done....!!! Your tirade tells me that you listen to Limbaugh and watch Fox...what a loser!

@Howard. I appreciate the list, but I'm not sure if I should critic this list. I would caution you though to realize the United States is a democracy and not a dictatorship, there are balance of powers, and issues like the economy, debt, entitlements can't be resolved unless all three branches of govt. are willing to work with each other. In a age where compromise is a bad word to some members of govt, how can you expect any major issues solved. For example, you can't solve the debt in this country, when 50% of our debt is due to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, particularly from the Baby Boomer Generation. Democrat, Independent, Tea Party, or Republican can argue all they want about protecting these programs, but at the end of the day, if you want to cut the debt, you have to cut these programs. Or raise taxes to pay for these programs, in order to maintain the debt at a constant level. I would suggest that you look at the voting track record of your elected official, and see what there compromising record looks like, on your own, and unfiltered from your favorite media outlet.

        Here’s what 0bama has done
Operation Fast & Furious – This program was in response to the drug wars on the Mexico border. Coordinated by the FBI and the Attorney General to crack down on illegal arms and drugs. This concept is nothing new we always hear about the bad deals, but never the good deals.

Obamacare – Protects American Tax Payers from the 50Million uninsured Americans from being a burden on insured Americans when they go to emergency rooms. Protects 700,000 people who go bankrupt every year due to being kick off of insurance. Increases preventative care programs to help solve the Medicare cost in the long term due to obesity, arthritis, cholesterol. etc.

$5 TRILLION in DEBT first term of 0bama – 50% of the annual budget goes toward Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid. When you are brave enough to raise taxes for these programs or cut these programs significantly then we can have conversation. Until then Obama is trying to pay for these programs through reform and increased taxes on the high income earners.

Failures of Solyndra, NextEra, Light Squared, Ener1 and numerous others – Reaffirms this President's commitment to alternative energy and energy independence, "So we can no longer bow to a Saudi King" – Newt Gingrich. A lot of products today came from GSEs Nintendo Wii, GPS, Fuel Cells, etc.

Failure to enforce Federal immigration laws – Define failure? Net this President has exported more illegal immigrants.

Failure to approve Trans-Canada Keystone Pipeline – Define failure? Southern leg (Oklahoma – Texas) of this pipeline is being built today. The Northern part is being negotiated by the State Dept to find an alternative way that doesn't go through Nebraska, since the Republican Governor of that State didn't want to risk the Mid West water reserves.

Failure to accept reforms from Simpson-Bowels (his own commission) – Obama did try to execute this program. Remember the $5T deal he made with Boehner, and McConnell to cut the deficit by $5Trillion in return for modest tax increases. The deal fell apart in the House due to the Tea Party.

15.9% U-6 Real Unemployment – You can't change the Unemployment metric at your own convenience. What was the U-6 for the past 10 years?

Skirting Congress with unelected ‘czars’ to protect his donors – There are still 200 routine appointments that are still waiting to be approved by the Senate. 'Czar' didn't become a bad word until Obama became elected. What is there role? For example, the Consumer Protection Bureau aka Dodd Frank, protects consumers from fraud and abuse.

America’s Credit Downgrade causes OUR investments to tank – Congress controls the budget. The debate has been about fair share contribution to the debt. $1 Tax increases for $3 spending cuts. Its hard to do, when most Republicans in Congress signed a pledge to never raise taxes. Its funny, how even though there was a downgrade, there was still increase in purchase in US Treasury Bonds.

30% loss in value of OUR homes – This was due to the housing bubble collapse, Lehman Brothers going down, Credit crunch, 8 million jobs lost from 2008-2009, toxic mortgage based securities.

20 years of Rev. Wright’s racism – Listen to his entire speech, not the edited version. Do some research on institutional racism, Alabama and Arizona's immigration laws, Voter Rights suppression and the more than 200 years of racism, fear, and stereotypes that still exist in this country.

Bailing out GM & Chrysler unions’ pensions with OUR taxes – It was a loan. It saved 1.1 Million Jobs. Unions and Salary both made sacrifices during the restructuring. GM and Chrysler both had to submit a plan to Congress on how they would restructure to be competitive. In the past two years billion dollar profits.

Highest Food Stamp usage in history – 8 million jobs were lost (half of those during the Bush Administration), to date 3.7M jobs have been recovered. Poverty has been a problem in our country for the past 30 years. Go look at the studies from the OECD.

Your one sided list is just to long, and I don't know why I even bothered.

Comedy? really? 2008 – the country losing 700 thousand jobs a month? was you one of them, or you are one of those banker, survived on taxpayers' dime? The Iraq war! The Afgh war! ... and the tax break for top 1%.... SHAME ON YOU

Of course he is. The Campaigner in Cheif is gearing up for more lies and deception. He has done NOTHING useful for this country. NOTHING. We have millions of people out of work. Yes, the unemployment rate has gone down, but he's conviently ignored the number of people who have just given up looking for work because it isn't there. He's kowtowing to forgien countries. He's attacking freedom of religion; freedom of speech – unelss of course it is the Liberal way of thinking, then it's rightspeek and rightthought.

Obama didn't inherit the problems in this country, he begged, lied, borrowed and stole to get them. He spent millions and millions to get those problems – he can't blame them on anyone else now. He wanted them and he got them. And he's done NOTHING to fix the underlying problems in America – just pandered to his leftie base.

I expect that the opening line will be Obama's famous lie, "As I told you many times before" to cover up the glaring fact that he did nothing of the sort. Do any of the Obama-appointed czars make an appearance. Funny. We haven't heard anything about them lately. Were they 'liquidated?'

Almost everyone runs as an oiedustr even when they aren't. Look at John McCain who has been running as an oiedustr for his decades in the Senate. Hilary Clinton's the only one who hasn't and look how that fared her. (Well, John Kerry too but that makes my point)For better or worse Americans like to vote for a guy they think they'd like to hang out with and who isn't an Washington elite (whether they are or not). I'm really surprised at some of the decisions the Clintons have made the last six months. I really thought she had it wrapped up but she was too arrogant and thought a shock and awe campaign to win the early elections would work.On other hand it was nice to see many Democrats finally seeing Bill Clinton for whom he has always been.
