Obama Campaign Releases 17-Minute Ad: "The Road We've Traveled"

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama's reelection campaign unveiled Thursday a 17-minute long video painting a glowing portrait of the President's first three years in office. The theme: President Obama inherited one of the worst financial meltdowns in history and, despite the odds, improved the economic picture while racking up accomplishments that should make key Democratic constituencies happy.

The video, narrated by Tom Hanks, features interviews with former President Bill Clinton, Vice President  Joe Biden, former Senior White House Adviser David Axelrod and former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, among others. Academy Award winner David Guggenheim directed the spot.

Watch the video here.

The ad's overarching theme is that the President made tough decisions based not on political expedience but instead for enduring change, but that he has more work to do. The message seems geared more toward base voters who are already inclined to support him, not toward swaying the undecided.

The video, called "The Road We've Traveled," begins with dire descriptions of the state of the U.S. economy immediately following President Obama's election. Axelrod describes a post-election briefing this way: "There was a screen set up for slides, but we might as well have been showing a horror movie because what was described in that meeting was an economic crisis beyond what anybody had imagined."

Emanuel says in the film: "You had people telling you that the auto industry was literally days from collapse. The financial sector – kind of the heart that pumps blood into the economy – was frozen up in cardiac arrest."

Narrator Tom Hanks then weighs in: "Not since the days of Franklin Roosevelt had so much fallen on the shoulders of one President."

The ad, which the campaign refers to as a documentary, reminds viewers that the Recovery Act gave middle class voters a tax cut, funded job training programs and helped pay the salaries for police, first responders and teachers.

A significant portion of the video focuses on the decision to bail out the now-recovered American auto industry, making the case that the President's choice to fund a second round of bailouts was fraught with risk.

Former consumer advocate and Assistant to the President Elizabeth Warren, now running for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, is featured saying, "If he fails to invest in the auto industry it implodes, the economy goes down and blood is on his hands. The President invests and the auto industry just can't pull out? That's on the President's hands as well."

There's a reminder that the George W. Bush administration invested $13 billion in Detroit and that Mitt Romney penned an op-ed entitled "Let Detroit go Bankrupt." In the words of former President Clinton, "He didn't just give the car companies the money and he didn't give the UAW the money. He said, 'You guys gotta work together and everybody's gotta have some skin in the game here.'"

The narrator concludes, "Because of the tough choices the President made the stage was set for a resurgent auto industry."

Despite the controversy over health care reform, the campaign's video doesn't shy away from presenting it as a major accomplishment. This section includes the only appearance by first lady Michelle President Obama. In explaining why the President wouldn't back down when it looked like the Affordable Care Act would fail, she said that he was encouraged by the memory of his mother, whose death from ovarian cancer was complicated by inconsistent health insurance.

Bill Clinton describes health care as a "huge economic issue," and narrator Hanks says of the President, "He knew he couldn't fix the economy if he didn't fix health care. He wanted to bring Washington together to face the tough decisions but he faced an opposition hostile to compromise."

The section ends with the passage of President Obama's signature health care reform law, but the ad later comes back to health care, with the message that more Americans now have coverage because of the legislation.

The most dramatic portion of the documentary deals with the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound. It features nighttime video of military helicopters and familiar images of the President and his team before and during the operation.

Here, President Obama is featured saying, "A lot of people have asked, 'How did you feel when you first heard that it was Bin Laden and he'd been killed?' And truth is I didn't have time for a lot of feelings at that point because our guys were still in that compound. And it wasn't until I knew they were across the border - they were safe, everybody was an accounted for, including the dog - that I allowed some satisfaction."

For dramatic measure the narrator adds, "It was the ultimate test of leadership. A victory for our nation. And there would be many others."

Reminding viewers that the President ran on the promise to end the war in Iraq, the ad shows images of the President  welcoming home returning troops. Hanks succinctly describes it as "a promise kept."

From here the video offers something for just about every Democratic interest group. There are reminders that health care reform expanded coverage to young adults and women with children. For the green energy crowd, he signed into law new mileage standards for vehicles. For young voters, he reformed student loan programs. For gays and lesbians, he ended Don't Ask Don't Tell. For women, he signed into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and nominated two women to the Supreme Court. And the campaign's closing message on the economy makes the case that the jobs picture is improving and Detroit is now booming.

The President Obama campaign is screening the video Thursday at more than 300 locations across the country, according to a campaign spokesperson. Axelrod, now a senior strategist on President Obama's reelection campaign, will conduct a question and answer session online following the screenings. The ad also streamed live on the campaign's website at 8 p.m. Thursday night.

I can't wait to see the film to get more ideas to help me talk everyone I know into voting to re-elect the President. But Joe Biden summed it up pretty well today, and it fits on a bumper sticker: "BIN LADEN DEAD, GM ALIVE"

Who wants to watch more propaganda from Obama's American Socialist Party. He did nothing but fill the airwaves with lies 3 years ago and make promises that he never kept. He blames others, never takes responsibility for his failures, takes credit for other's accomplishments, and crams bad policies down the throats of American citizens. He's the worst excuse of a president this country has ever seen. He is our Affirmative Action president, just as he was named an AA professor at Harvard. As a leader he has no previous experience, no knowledge, no idea of what his job is.was or how to accomplish it. He simply had a mouth full of lies and a head full of socialist ideas. He will drag this country to it's ruin if we let the liberal left and liberal mainstream news get him re-elected. ANYONE BUT OBAMA in 2012.

@ Randy, even you can't pick from the array of GOP candidates, It makes me wonder why? You just poppet the GOP Pundits talking points, anyone but Obama, make him a one term president. While the GOP was busy trying to destroy the POTUS they nearly took the country down with them. While you try to blame the President it was House GOP leadership(if you really have to call them that) with lowering the credit rating. The our way or NOWAY GOP is in for a big surprise in November. I know of one house freshman that will be looking for a new job in January.

MORE Propaganda B.S., from the liar and chief, and his Hollywood buddies. Obama has a horrible record, so he is going to just fabricate a record, and revise history, in order to get himself reelected.

CHARACTER = When a man, like Mitt Romney, donates his inheritance to charity.

CORRUPTION = When a man, like obama, uses the power of the state, to confiscate other people's hard earned money, squanders it, and finances loser companies, in exchange for political contributions, in an effort to get himself reelected.

        Mr. Howard,

If Obama is revising history, you are as well. Romney donated his inheritance in 1995/1996 after he was already worth hundreds of millions. He did not build wealth the American way as he claimed, but got benefits his whole life due to being the son of an aristocrat. When you are worth hundreds of millions, donating a few million is an afterthought and no test of character.

Romney did not earn money the way an entrepreneur or inventor or small business owner does. He earned it by moving money around so fast nobody else would notice. His main skill is moving money from place to place. If you want that for your President, by all means vote Romney. And then, see Romney pick cheap manufacturing in China over America because that is business. This is business fact and if you are uncomfortable about that pick a President, not a CEO as Gingrich said.

If you want to talk about moving money around ... take a good hard look at redistributing OTHER people's hard earned money. It's called THEFT ... something your man Obama has busy at. Obama has ALWAYS been on the Public dole ... and, yet you blindly devoted Obama followers continue to defend him, no matter how badly he messes up this country.

If money had the same value to Romney as it does to the average person, than yes, donating your inheritance in showing character. However, if you are so rich that money loses all value (eg. you make about $50.000 a day), and donating a large sum of money does not in any way limit you in your daily life, then how does that show character??? It would be character if he had to make some scarifies in any way because of his choice to donate this money...

What Obama had that his opponents did not was the acceptance and support of elite sectors of the mass communications media. It was their favorable coverage of Obama and his campaign that gave him an edge, propelling him rocket-like to the top of the opinion polls. This helped Obama win key primary election victories, enabling him to rise from an obscure public figure to President-elect in the short space of 9 months.
Substituted Obama for Carter, nothing has changed in the last 35 years.

Hey, Clyde Dumbo, funny how you think that fighting for the middle-class, who can't take one step up due to the Hammer of the GOP crushing down on us like the Judgment of Almighty God, is a sign of weakness and government hand-outs to the lazy poor. What about your android millionaire boy Romney who takes millions of $$$$$$$$$$ from struggling companies for free and then does not do one bit of labor to earn his paychecks for eternity? Looks like he got the biggest hand-out our government could allow him to thanks to the lobbyists at Bain Capital. You criticize Obama for being and acting like a Good Samaritan when that's what Jesus said we should do: help the defenseless. But pricks like you want to rule over the defenseless and take one for the GOP team who you want to be your Sugar Daddy. You loosely and incorrectly call the elderly, the blue collar workers, and struggling middle-class families "liberals" because they are fighting to stop the super-rich from ending government and instead want giant corporations and board members to oversee everything in the U.S. The problem is, the GOP favors corrupt government for the few and the mighty, when what we are pushing hard for is Good Government. You are a pathetic twit uneducated inbred hick red-neck moron.

Talk about propaganda – what drivel. So now we're electing presidents by how much they donate to charity? BTW, Obama's tax return indicated a larger percentage of his much more meager income than Romney's went to charity. Also, you all seem to forget that Obama is a self-made millionaire and didn't grow up a rich kid. Romney was born with a silver spoon in his mouth so in no way can he ever identify with the middle & poor classes in this country.

The "reported" unemployment is down; however, if one uses the same metrics that were used in that calculation when Obama came in, the real unemployment rate is in the teens.

Check the record. Romney does not donate that much to charity; he donates mainly to the Mormon church. One of the things that I and many others of both parties hope can come to pass is a world where people have intelligent discussions of the issues and refrain from calling people liars, etc. How does name calling help the country? Obama, whatever your feelings about his policies, loves this country as much as you and as much as Mitt Romney. Let's drop the childish nonsense.

@ Howard – I love how ALL of the hateful responses to the sense you are making is just that, hateful. The Dems have nothing better to say once they are can't compete with the facts, so they resort to nasty remarks and name calling – more lies! They are uncomfortable and don't know any better way to react to perfect sense. I don't know why they fight to the death for this Administration – because once a fight goes to where they so quickly take it, it is over.

Anyways, it is sad to say the least. I would like to know more about why exposing Obama for the theif that he is. If he isn't using Tax dollars to pay for his campaign, what is he doing? My thoughts about a re-election campaign are thus:

An incumbent should never have to campaign, his/her record should speak for itself and should be a shoe-in if they are doing a good job. In fact, I think it should be ILLEGAL to campaign for re-election as President – When campaigning, what job is the President doing? The only campaigning that a sitting President should be allowed to participate in is debates.

I don't even know why Obama is campaigning, he should donate all his funds to the debt or to a charity or something. The LIberal Stream Media is going to do all the campaigning he needs. The problem with it is anyone with a high school education should be able to see through all the lies and the positive slant placed on any story GIVEN to Obama; it makes me sick to watch or listen when a story is about high gas prices, but they slant it so that it is still those greedy oil companies that are causing it, and maybe it is a good thing, and maybe we should all start driving ugly little hybrids that cost 1.5 times as much at first, and if driven for 200,000 miles will pay for the higher cost by offsetting with fuel savings, etc. etc.... They are trying to force change in the world instead of letting the marketplace and the PEOPLE decide for themselves.

        March 18, 2012 at 10:19 pm |
      • Teresa

In 2008, an election year no less, when gas prices were at $4.00 a gallon, your fox news pundits repeated over and over that there is NOTHING a sitting president can do to lower gas prices. While conservative fox pundits are screaming now that it's all President Obama's fault. The US now EXPORTS more oil than it has in 10 years. As an independent voter I'll be one of those voters that will elect a president. So far the candidates the GOP is offering up fall woefully short. I do not believe we should live in a theocracy, out goes Santorum. Romney is untrustworthy, look at his business dealings. Going back to the 1800's when big business told everyone what they should want won't work for me. Gingrich's political record speaks for itself. Dr Paul, while he has some good idea's he comes off as rather unstable. So since no one else has come forward, better the devil you know.

?!? "Liar in chief?!" Quite the opposite, my friend. Candidate Obama promised to get a Health Care bill passed. President Obama made good on that promise. For many decades even Republican Presidents Tried and Failed to get a health care bill passed! President Obama actually finally got it done ( now if the conservative packed (activist) Supreme Court will just keep its nose out of it)!

Candidate Obama promised to get Bin Laden. Persistent President Obama increased the resources necessary to get him and got him. Bush the Younger promised to get Bin Laden too. But couldn't get him in seven long years. Bush had actually, in sour grapes fashion, thrown up his hands and said, " I don't care where Bin Laden is!"

Candidate Obama promised to bring home troops from Iraq. President Obama fulfilled that promise and the troops from Iraq came home! President Obama tries to be a man of his word!

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up
by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man
      by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage

poor are going to be poor anyway. We cant all be rich. In order for one to suceed, others must fail. There is only 1st place, in other words. There will always be a class system in a free society, open market. If republicans were always in power, it could go 1 of 2 ways....
        1. pretty much the same as it is now...
        2. monopoly. middle class disappears. Rich people win, everybody else loses

Hey Noworknofood...Nice try, but I think you need to do a little research. Governors have just as much if not more economic impact on their citizens than Mayors do and if you did a little research you would find that every state you mentioned except for NY & MO has a Republican governor. This is hard for conservatives to understand, but I will explain it in scientific terms, so there is no confusion. Its five easy words "CORRELATION DOES NOT PROVE CAUSATION"

Those cities are poor by design. When Ronny Reagan and his Republican Party began shipping jobs overseas, their intent was to make their Rich backers richer and squash unionization in the United States. Well..they succeeded. Don't blame those cities or their mayors. Blame the Republican elite that want to convert this country into a "Banana Republic" with THEM as the masters.

Not very smart, aren’t you? There is no correlation between the party of the city major and poverty levels. What you are pointing out is due to the fact the vast majority of large urban areas in the US traditionally vote democrat. That is why if you look at the richest top-10 cities with the lowest poverty rates: honolulu, stanford, hartford, portland, boston, ect, they will also have Democrat majors. In fact several of them never had a Republican Major.
Now if you look at the state level you will see a direct correlation between politics and poverty. The bottom 10 poorest states are all (with no exception) hard core red states with long time Republican control of the state government.

All that tells me is that Republicans and Democrats alike haven't done much to fix the poverty in those cities. Just because they didn't elect a Republican President, doesn't mean they didn't have one. They've had plenty. NONE of those cities voted 100% democratic. Just the majority. Good try, but no one's buying it.

Once I saw your post where you state, incorrectly, that Miami has never elected a Mayor from the GOP, I lost interest in your argument.
If you're going to present a list and rely on that list to prove a point for you, you should at least make sure the 'facts' you list are accurate.
Miami last had a GOP mayor from 1998-2001 (Joe Carollo) and its previous mayor and current mayor were both GOPers but are now independent.

I find it hard to understand GOP and their blatant amnesia about the atrocities brought about by their own party. Do you all wear horse-blinders or something? Thanks to the BUSH Administration and their criminally fraudulent ploy to dupe the American public, traumatized by the attacks of 9/11, into signing away our personal freedoms and not only OUR paychecks, but the future income of our children AND grandchildren to fund and support a war in Iraq that was based on lies. Other than the profits made by Haliburton and the rest of the IMC, what has this country gained? Trillions in debt.

BEFORE Bush took office, this country was in the black, the budget balanced. (Thanks to Clinton, he raised taxes AND the economy boomed!) The Bush Administration allowed our country to be attacked, and because of it coerced us into two wars that have been little more than costly failures. Fine, that is old news. What about more recent events? (I know how you Republicans have short attention spans.)

How about the Deregulation of Wall Street and the Banking Industry? The Bush Administration, with the full support of all you blind sheep hell bent on deregulation and small government, repealed laws that were put into place by the government after the economic collapse of 1929 in order to prevent such extreme levels of greed, corporation corruption, and fraud from ever again fatally crippling this country. Thanks to that deregulation, in a matter of 3 short years we Americans watched our country's economy flat-line.

Deregulation=Legal Theft of American Pockets, Rape of the Environment, Slavery of the Working Class.
Small Government=No One to protect the Working Class.

Please also remember that is was that the Bush Administration that ushered in full force the Out-sourcing of so many of our American jobs overseas, ensuring economic and real-estate devastation. (Because you can't pay for your house if you don't have a job.) And don't even get me started on all his tax-cuts for his rich friends. (Like Romney, or Cheney.)

President Obama and his Administration did not create the mess we are in, he inherited it. He has done everything within his power to not only stop this country from bleeding to death, but bring the country back to health, but it is the GOP that has stood in his way at every turn! All in the name of partisan politics!

Really? FYI, Obama is not a King, nor is he a messiah. He is a Patriot who worked his butt off to get the hardest job there is in this country at a time when no one in their right mind would want it. The problems this country faces did not manifest overnight, they cannot be solved overnight.

Is Obama the Best President ever? Maybe not. But he is certainly NOT the worst. (I think Bush Jr. will wear that crown for decades.) But I DO think that he has done a great job considering the amount of work he has had to do, the overwhelming opposition he has had to work with, and the achievements he has made thus far. OBAMA 2012!

I find it interesting that the Bush bashing continues 3+ years after he left office. Especially given a president cannot do the majority of what Bush is accused of without the consent of Congress and the Senate. Essenitally, they all were involved in much of the issues in this debate. So if one blames Bush for any aspect of the mess we find ourselves in, many Congressman and Senators on both sides were just as guilty, as the president can rarely do it alone – our Constitution guarantees that. Iit's the checks and balances our brilliant fore fathers designed. Why I fear most in this debate, is those that fail to see the soft tyranny of this administration, and government in general. It's akin to putting the frog in cold water and gently boiling it; the frog doesn't know he's done until it's too late. It's the same in our country. Little by little, the Consititution is being trampled on and if this country doesn't wake up to that fact, one day we'll all wake up and find Amerika, not America.

I don't know if I will vote. disappointed in him not doing enough to save people from losing their homes, first they save their asses and then they don't put a clause in it that required them to prevent people from losing their houses. Gas prices are too high and he should do whatever he can to decrease them, he is supposed to be the most powerful man in the world. The health care laws will become into effect and healthy young people should not be required to give their hard earned money to these insurance companies that just take and don't want to cover illness. Why do people want government out of the way, and then demand that the government fix every problem in their life? You can't have it both ways!! Just use the right to vote (that's what this country is all about since other countries are mounting revolutions ask we speak to get that very right) and vote for the person who you think can best help the country. Sitting at home doesn't really fix anything...it just allows things to get worse. Anyway, if you do stay home, stop complaining!!

I'm still miffed how anyone can believe this man deserves re-election. Bin Laden was killed by SEALS, not the president. He gave the order that any president would have; this was not a unique situation – it's expected of the Command and Chief. GM should have gone through the normal bankruptcy proceedings and the result would have been the same. Our government shouldn't shore up floundering businesses, especially not as payback for union support. This president has divided this country and he is totally devoid of leadership on any level. This idealogue has no business heading our great nation. I'm confident the pink-slip will come in November when the country sends a loud and clear message that we won't be fundamentally changed into something contrary to our founding principles.

      March 16, 2012 at 1:00 pm |
      • checkyourfacts

Actually it was a unique situation. There was not 100% proof that Osama Bin Laden was in that compound. The President and only the President could make the choice of entering a sovereign country (Pakistan) and risk killing the wrong person, in turn starting a war with an allied country. I believe the scope of what that means is beyond your understanding, so of course it will seem like no big deal to you. You need to develop more respect for the decision that this man had to make. As a Navy veteran, I applaud the SEALS and the President on a mission well done.

So sick of hearing that Obama shouldn't get credit for killing OBL and saving the auto industry. You say as Commander in Chief anyone would have given the order to kill OBL however the hunt for him was stopped under Bush (remember the president who had 9/11 happen on his watch) and then restarted under Obama. The auto bailout was a very chancey decision and Obama had the guts to go for it. He could have taken the easy way out and let it go bankrupt like Romney would have done, but he chose the bailout and thankfully for all of us it worked.

You need to do a little more research than that. Regan planned and implemented the necessary military build-up that directly led to the demise of the Soviet regime which threatened us. That took years of research and analysis, coupled with superb leadership to make it happen. He had a vision for America and made it reality; a vision that made us a safer nation and world as a result.

Philip...You really need to stop talking about this subject, because you are coming off as not so bright. Poor economic planning by the Soviets was the cause of their own demise. Reagan had nothing to do with it. Explain to me from an economic standpoint how building a military force at home and never utilizing it brings down another nation? The Soviets ruined themselves, the same way Iran is doing it now. A poorly planned command economy was the factor, NOT Reagan.

He can't run on success for the next campaign, he's running on division – throwing fuel into the fire to divide us further, and cause us more harm. people will vote for him because they want more of the same – which is to have those more successful to pay for everything. he speaks wonderfully – but he is by far the worst president i've ever lived under – and at 55 – there have been a few. I just want to point out one misconception that the"drill, baby, drill"folks are perpetrating...oil production is UP in the U.S., not down In point of fact, we are drilling more oil than during the Bush years. Furthermore, gas prices rise and fall based upon futures trading, which, if you will honestly think about, is done predominantly by wealthy Republicans. Ask anyone in the oil industry about gas prices and they will tell you the same thing. So let's not bash the President, or any President, about their inability to control gas prices. Republicans claim they want less government regulation except when it affects their own purse strings. Not bashing you, Loren, just seemed like a good a spot as any to say my piece.

This 'so called' documentary, is nothing more than another contrived campaign pitch for Obama.
In REALITY, Obama, uses the power of the state, to confiscate other people's hard earned money, squanders it, and finances loser companies, in exchange for political contributions, in an effort to get himself reelected. Obama continues to tell Americans that 2 + 2 = 5 ... and, there's always a bunch of stupid people out there (and posting here), who believe

      Where are the Bernstein's and Woodward's of 2012 ???

Seeking 'TRUTH', used to be the admirable objective of the media.
Unfortunately, today, journalists have become biased, lying scoundrels.
      Why wasn't Obama vetted ?
Why do today's main stream media tell half truths, and outright lies ?
The fourth estate used to be the objective, last bastion of truth.
They used to be the one place where the public could escape corruption, and
      expect honesty and integrity.

We have huge debt because the Republicans shipped our tax base (manufacturing) to China. NOW, they don't want to raise taxes on the very people who made all the money on that move. Return the tax rates to the pre-Reagan era, jettison "free trade" and implement "fair trade". Watch the deficit disappear!

    • Male Matters

Re: "For women, he signed into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act"

The act gives an indication of how accurately President Obama guages issues.

No law yet has closed the gender wage gap — not the 1963 Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, not Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, not the 1978 Pregnancy Discrimination Act, not the 1991 amendments to Title VII, not affirmative action (which has benefited mostly white women, the group most vocal about the wage gap – http://tinyurl.com/74cooen), not diversity, not the countless state and local laws and regulations, not the horde of overseers at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and not the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.... Nor will a "paycheck fairness" law work.

That's because pay-equity advocates continue to overlook the effects of female AND male behavior:

Despite the 40-year-old demand for women's equal pay, millions of wives still choose to have no pay at all. In fact, according to Dr. Scott Haltzman, author of "The Secrets of Happily Married Women," stay-at-home wives, including the childless who represent an estimated 10 percent, constitute a growing niche. "In the past few years,” he says in a CNN report at http://tinyurl.com/6reowj, “many women who are well educated and trained for career tracks have decided instead to stay at home.” (“Census Bureau data show that 5.6 million mothers stayed home with their children in 2005, about 1.2 million more than did so a decade earlier....” at http://tinyurl.com/qqkaka. If indeed more women are staying at home, perhaps it's because feminists and the media have told women for years that female workers are paid less than men in the same jobs — so why bother working if they're going to be penalized and humiliated for being a woman. Yet, if "greedy, profit-obsessed" employers could get away with paying women less than men for the same work, they would not hire a man – ever.)

As full-time mothers or homemakers, stay-at-home wives earn zero. How can they afford to do this while in many cases living in luxury? Because they're supported by their husband, an “employer” who pays them to stay at home.

Feminists, government, and the media ignore what this obviously implies: If millions of wives are able to accept no wages and live as well as their husbands, millions of other wives are able to:

      -accept low wages
      -refuse overtime and promotions
-choose jobs based on interest first, pay second — men tend to do the opposite
-work part-time instead of full-time (“According to a 2009 UK study for the Centre for Policy Studies, only 12 percent of the 4,690 women surveyed wanted to work full time”: http://bit.ly/ihc0tl See also an Australian report at http://tinyurl.com/862kzes)
      -take more unpaid days off
      -avoid uncomfortable wage-bargaining (http://tinyurl.com/3a5nlay)

All of which LOWER WOMEN'S AVERAGE PAY.

Women are able to make these choices because they are supported — or anticipate being supported — by a husband who must earn more than if he'd chosen never to marry. (Still, even many men who shun marriage, unlike their female counterparts, feel their self worth is tied to their net worth.) This is how MEN help create the wage gap. If the roles were reversed so that men raised the children and women raised the income, men would average lower pay than women.

Afterword: The power in money is not in earning it (there is only responsibility, sweat, and stress in earning money). The power in money is in SPENDING it. And, Warren Farrell says in The Myth of Male Power at http://www.warrenfarrell.org/TheBook/index.html, "Women control consumer spending by a wide margin in virtually every consumer category." (Women's control over spending, adds Farrell, gives women control over TV programs.) "A recent research study revealed that the average woman spends eight years of her life shopping [spending] - over 300 shopping trips per year. Men, only a fraction of that." –

See "Will the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act Help Women?" at http://malemattersusa.wordpress.com/2011/12/03/will-the-ledbetter-fair-pay-act-help-women/

        -work part-time instead of full-time

Do you know how statistics works? Even if women took jobs they prefer to do over those that pay more money, they should still be making roughly the same as men in those exact same jobs. Similarly with working part-time vs full-time. This is not about how much money they are taking home, this is about how much money they make comparitively to men doing the "same" work.

You tout all the things that were "given". Well, all those "gifts" have a cost and that cost is redistribution. It's simply not appropriate for any government to take from one to give to another. I served this country for 21 years on active duty and can honestly say, what you describe is not America. What you espouse is a social state. That is simply un-American. That's why this administration has to go.

      March 16, 2012 at 1:08 pm |

I stand behind you on this. I served 20 years.

        March 16, 2012 at 1:39 pm |
      • 2011 Eyes

Sounds like the military guys that served 20+ years are bitter about their own choices in life. Incidently, all working people pay taxes, not just you guys; and it is very much American to help those that need. So if you feel selfishness is good, then take your money with you when you die.

All the hatred and rudeness cannot cover up the truth of how the last administration left this country fractured. It's unfortunate, but we are paying for their debacle. To deny that Bush/Cheney left this country in so much debt because of two unfunded, wasteful wars and 10+ years of tax cuts to the wealthy is appalling. What we are witnessing is how some members of Congress are refusing to clean up the mess they created. They refuse to discuss the real problems and put an end to trillions of tax dollars going to foreign countries, all on borrowed money, and instead take care of America first. America needs fixing, and that's all we should care about.

        March 16, 2012 at 8:55 pm |
      • checkyourfacts

Once again Philip. This is getting old. Our years in military service does nothing for our knowledge on economic and social matters. Unless you are well read in Adam Smith, Hume, Menger, Marx, Ricardo, and countless other philosopher/economists you have no say in what is socialism and what is not American. Conservatives always like to recite Adam Smith. If you have actually read "The Wealth of Nations" you would know that Smith actually approved of a progressive tax system and a redistribution of wealth. The problem is that you would have to read more than half the book and we know how most repubs hate to read.

        March 16, 2012 at 9:06 pm |
      • Philip

You're quite opinionated about what it takes to be informed. You believe one can only be enlightened if they read the books you tout. Then you assume I'm a republican because I don't agree with this president's policies and can't read more than half a book. Finally, you assume that since I served in the military, I have no basis for economics and the like. You couldn't be further from the truth. America is suffering and that's in large measure to a lack of leadership at the very top and those he surrounds himself with. I don't care what philosopher believes a progressive tax system is good. We're spending too much and over-governing. Obviously there is a necessary modicum of taxes necessary to run the country; but this is way out of hand. We'll what type of America we want in November . . .

        March 17, 2012 at 8:17 pm |
      • Vance

I served in the Marines as well. HMM-268. And in no way did that give me any insights into economics. It gave me great insights into politics and how much the Gov. has control over the freedom of speech of it's military. That being said, I studied economics and business after I was out of the Marines. I own two companies and I am having a blast. I am not wealthy, but I manage to get by. this entire redistribution of wealth argument is a truth and a distortion. Taxes by nature are a "redistribution of wealth" You/we pay taxes and the government decides were to put that money aka "wealth".

It's not rocket science. So where does that wealth go? It goes to things like infrastructure, social programs, the military, social security, etc etc....

Now in an election cycles the politicians on both sides like to focus on the hot button topics and issues. Like Social programs. Get us to focus on those sweet little emotional buttons.

The bottom line is that our wealth will always be redistributed. It always has been and always will. What you better hope for is a balanced and fair Government that makes the right decisions for the right times. What most are arguing here is how it affects me me me me, while trying to disguise it as "good for country"

Anyone who has actually studied what makes a society fail or succeed should realize that you \need to concern yourselves with all aspects of your society. From the wealthy to the poor, the uneducated to the scholar. Try playing SIMS sometime. See how you do Governing over a society. It's not so easy. You cannot ignore anything and there are tough decisions to make.

You can argue, name call and demonize as many individuals as you want. Running a country is no walk in the park. And not a man whom has ever held office in the great country did anything that was not for love of country. If you can sit there and say any of the great men to ever hold office were less than patriotic doing what they felt was best for country, then you are off base. It is a thankless job. A job where day one you are confronted with the realities of the office. From your first briefing you realize the real threats and the real problems facing your presidency. You become privy to things you can only know once you hold office and you become privy to things that squash some of the things you dais on the campaign trail. Are they perfect men and women, those who make the decisions in our country? NO. Nor are we as citizens.

But we can do better than the drivel posted in these forums. We could try to educate ourselves beyond sound bites, beyond emotional response, beyond the B.S.

We are a great country because of our passion. I hope we begin to use our intellect just a tad more. Without it as a guide, we undermine ourselves.

So the messiah finally going to campaign lie about his accomplishments and all while still blaming somebody. I wonder why he didn't talk about when he had congress he didn't care about job bills or make a budget. But it not like obama ever going to say anything ever was his fault anyway.

Loim, were you sleeping for the past 3 years? Just like Howard, Lizzie and many GOPs. Do you now deny the filibustering of the Republican Senate or the House? Over 300 Bills Passed the House during Pelosi, but dead in Senate. Wow, it's just amazing that the consequences of all the blockades of Republicans in Congress and the Senate are put on the President.
Earlier someone listed these twisted and inaccurate info:
3 years of trillion dollar deficits
      – $5 trillion in new debt
      – loss of our AAA credit rating
      – record federal spending as a share of the economy
      – world highest corporate tax rate
      – unemployment at 8 + percent

      Reasons for the above:
      1. Wars is still going on
      2. TeaParty GOP in Congress caused the AAA down grade. That is a FACT (concept the GOP steer away from)
      3. Percentage wise, this administration spent much less than Reagan during our previous recession in the 80's.
      4. Over 750,000 JOB LOST EVERY MONTH FOR ALMOST A YEAR result from the previous administration. Again, that is fact
This President has done what a President should do to stop the economy from collapsing regardless of TOTAL opposition (NO help) from the GOP and yet able to stop the bleeding.

God has this dude's back for sure because lately, All GOP controlled states and even the GOP's Presidential candidates are stumbling in big ways just as God wanted. He (God) has remove the restrain from the fake Christians mouth (GOP law makers) and are now exposed how not so Christians they really are. God sees the heart people not your mouth. PEACE...

Too bad some people made up their minds a long time ago to hate President Obama and they will not let facts or reality penetrate their hatred. I will be working for President Obama's campaign. It is important for my children's futures. President Obama sincerely cares about the middle class while the GOP has become the party that cares only for the ultra wealthy, big business, and religious zealots.

How do you reconcile $5TRILLON in additonal debt, a festering housing situation, real unemployment far in excess of 9% when he PROMISED it would be less than 8%. It amazes me that anyone in America would promote and severly underqualified individual as president. It seems everyone wants something for nothing. No work ethic. No patience. No willingness to work for something. Very sad . . .

Any of the things you've pointed, for the most part, were done with the consent of Congress – they had a hand in this as well. Bottom, line, I don't have confidence in this president. I dont' hate him; I simply believe he's under qualified and has a vision of this country antithetical to our country's core values. He appears to take actions around the consitituion rather than revere it and abide by its wisdom. If that's what you want, vote for him. I want something better . . .

Since you obviously favor sarcasm, let’s just imagine for a moment that Bush got Osama—not Saddam but the guy actually responsible for 911. If that were the case, the republican establishment would have Bush's face on Mount Rushmore by now. There would be buildings, ships, gold statues, kids, monkeys, goats, and holidays named in honor of Bush. But the reality is none of that happened. In fact, if it wasn’t for Bush’s screw ups there would be no Obama—and for some reason folks like you just can’t handle the that. YES. Let's go back to the policies that brought the Enron collapse, expanded Medicare with an unfunded Part D to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars, botched the mission to get Bin Laden while focussing military priorities elsewhere and ended with the collapse of the housing market and financial systems while replacing government surpluses with deficits in by enacting large tax cuts for the top echelon of the economy.

I can't stand the fact that Bin Laden is dead, the war in Iraq is ended, the auto-industry is back on track, health care coverage is expanded and estimates on future healthcare costs have been lowered as a result.

The TRUTH ... that is what it is all about, highlighting the truth. If Obam's attackers were restricted to "the truth", both in needing to credit it and in having to not alter it, then the public wouldn't be bombarded by all of the propaganda being created and paid for by "the few", aiming to discredit Obama and elect their "puppet" politicians who they "pull the strings" for and return us to "more of the same", Bush-Cheney style, that would again cost the majority so much. Obama's opposition aggressively wants to defeat him as they see him as a stumbling block to their objective of continually pushing this country to being a two-class society where "the few" compete in having it all while the majority just struggles to survive. Theirs is the "more" (never enough) mentality which they will commit all of their power, influence and mega-millions to pursue – that also "the truth", which is obvious to any rational and objective viewing.

What terrifies the Right is that Obama should be recognized for any successes at all. It has been the mission of the right wing lunatic fringe (RWLF) to try and spin successes into failures. They make no secret of this. As Mitch McConnell stated, their primary mission is to make Barack Obama a one term President.

The current hot button issue the RWLF is trying to spin is high gas prices. They know full well that the price of crude is determined by world production (supply) and world consumption (demand). They also know that US refineries are currently taking advantage of the situation by exporting ten percent of US production. Their is absolutely nothing in the short term any President can do, short of nationalizing crude oil acquisition or government imposed price controls, to lower pump prices. That would mean giving up on free enterprise and shifting the burden from consumers to taxpayers. Do you like that idea?

Gullible, ignorant voters look only at the short term problem but fail to see that solutions require long term investment. Energy prices are not coming down in the short run, regardless of who occupies the White House. Get used to it. You cannot legislate exceptions to the law of supply and demand.

    7 minutes about Obama Care
3 Minutes of NCAA backet picks
3 Minutes of Nobel Peace prize for thinking nice thoughts (funny how they differ so broadly from what continues to be policy in Afghanastan, Libya, Syria, NK and Iran...can't include Egypt since we're paying them off still–peace through cash)

  50. Doug

Obama is one of the best Presidents we have ever had. He is a rock solid leader. He took office while the economy was collapsing faster than anyone had ever experienced. As a weak leader, G.W. Bush, without a clear plan, shoveled more than a trillion dollars to prop it up the collapsing economy between Sept 2008 to Jan. 20, 2009, including a weak attempt to shore up the auto industry. Obama took a huge risk and won by doing innovative things that stopped the collapse and got us moving up again. We would have a stronger economy today if the repubs would have worked with him instead of digging in and fighting him every inch of the way for the last 3 yrs. I used to be a repub now I'm a strong Obama supporter.

I am a independent and I will vote for the person I feel will work for the American people not for their own parties agendas. I see that racism is still alive and well in America and our kids are still being taught hate and separation. Lets start caring about the human race and move forward, and make real history in stead. You got this all wrong. Let me help you out:
      1. NOBODY is wanting to eliminate SS, Save it yes, eliminate it, no!
      2. Eliminate medicare? Would you settle for a half billion dollar cut in it instead? That would be the DEMS!
      3. Eiminate ALL taxes on the rich? Who said that? MSNBC?
      4. Increase you taxes to pay off the debt? Really? How about increase your taxes to pay for more welfare! Again that woud be the DEMS!
      5. Give ALL your money to the 1%ers. The Dems are loaded with 1%ers, you mean them?

In short, your wild exaggerations are scarily misinformed!

      March 16, 2012 at 2:48 pm |
      • BADGUY

        Stevo -WRONG!
        – Removing younger payers into Social Security WILL eliminate Social Security, even for current receivers. The Repugs just don't want to say that. They want Poverty for the lower classes...period. If we have a problem NOW, we'll have a BIGGER problem then!
        – Like Social Security...they want Medicare GONE. They just don't want and to say it...they CAN'T!
        – They have ALL talked about a "Flat Tax" on everyone. That means the bottom 50%, who pay no taxes now will be paying 25%! So...the Rich (who make Millions per year will pay NOTHING. A guy making 20,000/year will be paying 5,000. Some "upside down" progressive tax rate..huh?
        – The top 1% now has 43% of the nation's financial wealth. With a 0% income tax on them and a 25% income tax on the poor, they'll be able to "up" that percentage to between 90 and 100% within a few years!

        – All the Repug candidates say they'll eliminate the 15% Capital Gains tax. The top 20% makes most or ALL of their money off capital gains. If that tax is eliminated, the Rich will pay NOTHING. You had better read up!

        March 16, 2012 at 3:12 pm |
      • jean2009

Anything the GOP wants to do with SS and Medicare amounts to eliminating it. They may use the word "Save" in their sentence structure but basically only a fool thinks that is what they mean. What they want to "Save" is them being a part of it, or doing anything that doesn't save them a dime.

Just like NAZI Germany tied to brainwash people they were exterminating by telling them they would make things better. Do you believe for a moment the Nazi's told its citizens they planned to exterminate people?

        March 16, 2012 at 4:29 pm |
      • Steveo

Let me ask you a question! Are you telling me the Dems want to save SS? The best way to save it is to have EVERYONE including the Congress paying into it. I'll admit not one GOP member has mentioned that. How about the Dems? What are they saying about paying into it! NOTHING! Congress pays into it and its fixed in a month!

        March 16, 2012 at 4:35 pm |
      • C-Lo

Steveo–you're wrong. The only ways to save SS are by ending the "tax holiday" robbing the already depleted coffers, adjusting future benefits, and creating a true lockbox for it, and the second piece is the coup de gras (Jean that's a french term, not a misspelled place to put chickens). Without adjusting benefits, there is not enough population coming up behind the baby boomers to maintain current benefits without going all socialism on our rear ends.

        March 16, 2012 at 4:50 pm |
      • Steveo

My point (better stated) is if politicians had some skin in this game, SS would be fixed or close to it it! Your point is taken, of course!

      • Steveo

How many potential tax payers where removed via abortion since 1973? Or are you going to tell me there is absolutely zero correlation?

        March 16, 2012 at 8:10 pm |
      • jean2009

@C-Lo Correctly it is "coup de grace". My German and French may be very rusty, at this point. I lived for 2 years in the 50's in German about 14km from the French border. In the 70's, we had a French exchange student for a year.

        March 18, 2012 at 12:16 pm |
      • C-Lo

@ Jean–first the use of both "ain't" and "coup de gras" was intentional–adjusting SS benefits would not be the death blow coup de grace" to SS, but the "stroke of grease" needed to keep it going.
Second, point taken on "since." Now the question is..."since" the downturn in the economy hit heavily in 2008 (one year after Dems controlled both houses) and "since" everyone believes the economy is rebounding now (one year after Republicans took back control of the House, who controls the purse strings), who do you say is actually the responsible party in DC? "M"anicdotal evidence is fine in your response.

        March 19, 2012 at 10:50 am |
    • jean2009

Right the GOP believes trickle down works...but facts are facts the truth is they don't believe that lie since the only one it benefits is the ones selling that trickle down lie..."Give me all the money and some of it will trickle down to you."

      March 16, 2012 at 3:24 pm |

Once your income is taxed what is done with that money is beside the point; since it is no longer yours. Just like I have no choice when my tax dollars are used to save your sorry behind from calamity. To have enough taxes revenue to pay for things that benefit all of society should be the goal. Otherwise, you should become a hermit go live on an unpopulated island and not use any of the benefits of being a member of society.

Jean–that's a poor argument. If it doesn' t matter what happens after it goes to the gov't, why do we elect people to decide what to do with it? Second, a great Bible lesson, that applies here without religiocity, he who is responsible with little will be given much, but he who is irresponsible with much will be given little.

Secondly to state that once that money is taxed, it is no longer yours...so if you're mugged on the street, once the robber has your purse, it is no longer yours either? Fact is, in this democracy, the "purse" belongs to the people (hypothetically) and we "hire" (elect) people to manage that money for the best interest of us. If we don't like how they are managing our purse, we fire them. There in lies a fundamental difference between libs and fiscal conservatives, libs believe the taxed money belongs (and has always belonged) to the government–it's our payment to DC for the privilege of living in this country. Conservatives believe elected officials serve as a privilege to us, and should be thankful for the contributions we make and not frivilous with their spending. That's no "Vous tordre la verite" but simply a matter of perspective and political philosophy.

You know the documentary is BS, without even seeing it, but what choice is there politically. You have Obama and the Democrats, not without their faults and failings on one hand. On the other side you have candidates that tout an idealogy that is insane, anti-everyone, raving social conflicts, pro-war, and a rehash of the failed economic idealogy that got us into this mess. Even something as basic, as fundamentally American and conservative as the seperation of church and state is being challenged. At least with Obama you have someone rational, thoughtful and intelligent as the head of state who is tacking to the center.

George W. Bush inherited a strong economy, a budget surplus, and a nation at peace.

Eight years later, he left Obama with a shattered economy, a trillion dollar deficit, and two useless wars.

Obama saved the country from another Great Depression, rebuilt GM, reformed healthcare, reformed Wall Street, doubled the stock market, created 8 straight quarters of GDP growth, created 22 straight months of private sector job growth, got Bin Laden, got Gaddafi, and got us out of Iraq.

And now with the automatic spending cuts and the expiration of the Bush tax cuts in 2012, Obama has solved the deficit problem as well.

Obama has done a very good job.

Make that $5 trillion that Bush added to the national debt...and the real bummer is the fact that the interest on that debt is continually increasing what we owe. Many are crying about the Affordable Health Care Insurance Act....but that had to be done, and it had to be done first; if we are ever going to get the economy back to a stronger place where we can compete health care reform had to happen. Just like our current absolute need to go all out on renewable and alternative fuels R&D.

I believe this president knows exactly how to make the future work and how to get us to that point...all we need to do is help.

People who have no real plan for the future are those who are reverting to the dark ages bringing issues about controlling access to birth control and a bunch of other anti-woman stupidity which sells to a narrow margin, but won't fly with everyone else. That $2.50 gasoline sounds like Hoover's 2 chickens in every pot.

Not very smart, aren’t you? There is no correlation between the party of the city major and poverty levels. What you are pointing out is due to the fact the vast majority of large urban areas in the US traditionally vote democrat. That is why if you look at the top-10 richest cities with the lowest poverty rates: honolulu, stanford, hartford, portland, boston, ect, and they will also have Democrat majors. In fact several of them never had a Republican Major.
Now, if you look at the state level you will see a direct correlation between ignorance and poverty. The bottom 10 poorest states are all (with no exception) hard core red states with long time Republican control of the state government.

Yes, but Kathy of MN, you're forgetting that first, a lot of women are ignorant, and will vote against their own interests or how the people who've brain washed them tell them to, not for the guy trying to make sure they have health care. There are women who are so stupid they'll argue that they themselves should not be voting or driving. That's how brainwashed (or empty headed) some are. To be fair, there is a certain attraction, I can see, to the old days, when you didn't have to decide anything... your father decided who you would marry, your husband decided how many children you'd have and when... because at the end of the day, a woman, or a wife to be specific, in a patriarchal society is perpetually a child.

There are times when adults, men and women, would love to lay down the burdens of adulthood, and just run out and play. Not that the lives of those women are or were idyllic, but there is at least something resembling an upside, and many chose it, which is why the state of affairs in the world only recently in history started changing in terms of equal rights, etc.

Also, our electoral college dinosaur system is rigged to ensure that the rich will be picking the next president, not you, or your fellow women. So spew your bilious statements if you like, about how women will defeat the Republican candidate...

If women were that powerful, why don't we currently have a group of Republican men vying with each other to defeat the reelection campaign of President Hillary R. Clinton?

Ok so there is no one in the video that has any real credibility. The video also overlooks how his administration violates the Constitution, it also fails to mention the extremely high national debt that he's put on the back of the working tax payers, it fails to show how many people have quit looking for a job and the true unemployment numbers, and let's not forget that this administration has given amnesty to so many people that those people are eligible for welfare, food stamps and tax payer paid education. But what can you expect of the party that hands down and buys vote with the working people money. May this sad case for a "President" get a boot so that the country can once again be proud and not continue to apologize for our country for he does not represent me and my views and I am a tax payer not a taker.

Obama is clueless when it comes to most things including energy production. He does not understand the dynamics of supply and demand.
Newt Gingrich is the most intelligent of all of the candidates running for President:
If more American oil production won't lower gas prices, as the president claims, why would more Saudi oil production lower prices, as the administration has requested?

I'm really amazed that some Democrats are so enamored of the worst President they have put forth since Jimmy Carter that they actually hold him blameless for presiding and accelerating the decline of America. Every important metric is worse. Every single one. Unemployment, debt, deficit, inflation...and no...it wasn't all those rascally Republican's fault.

To those of you who need your memory refreshed, I'll offer this factual insight. George Bush started the bank bailouts. The costs of both wars were left off the books until this president came into office, Medicare Part D and the Bush tax Cuts that are still driving our national debt and still in effect, were not paid for and there were less than 4 million net jobs gained in the eight years that Bush was in office. So how anyone with a firm grasp of reality can outright blame this president for the state of our national debt is beyond me. Let's come back to reality.

I have a question.......When did it become a bad thing to be mainstream? or elite? Personally I am sick to death of Fox calling all other news channels mainstream media. Several people have credited President Obama's success to the the Elite media. Would you rather have a mediocre media? Being main stream is what the vast majority of the country is. Being Elite is something to strive for. Thank you for reading this little rant, I feel better now.

    March 17, 2012 at 10:25 am |
    • Sponge-Bob

Consider this, markets respond to niches and demand. Fox wouldn't even exist or draw as many viewers as they do if there weren't a niche there to fill. If the other networks were truly balanced people wouldn't go elsewhere, but every time there's a poll about the media it's usually around 60% or more viewers that say the media is biased to the left. As for the media being elite, that's a laugh, the only ones that believe that are the media themselves. The days of actual reporting are over, it seems to all be commentary now. Do your own test and watch the various channels, count how many pro Obama and anti Obama things you see, if the reporting were fair it should be 50/50 right?

      March 17, 2012 at 11:25 am |
      • Teresa

While I don't deny there is bias in the media, I still wonder why it is a bad thing to be mainstream. My circle of friends all work for a living, raise families, make house payments, pay taxes and complain about the government. Pretty main stream people. Don't you think there are more mainstream people out there than not?

This video did exactly what it was intended to do: it highlighted the success of Obama and justified the controversial decisions that he faced during an economic crisis in our country. Although the video was slightly pretentious when comparing the state of our economy to the Great Depression and Obama to FDR, it did a good job elaborating on the details of Obama’s actions that are often cast in a derogative light. The video includes two clips of Bill Clinton supporting the President’s decisions which may help to sway voters with the opinion of a trusted figure. The video focuses on the economic gains associated with auto-industry bailouts that were handled not only with government subsidies, but with guidelines for modernization and new milage standards. Boasting that GM is now making top sales in the world and that the Recovery Act protected many jobs and offered small-business incentives, the video counteracts Republican scapegoating. It also addresses The Affordable Care Act that critics often spin as a step towards socialism. With a moral justification of Obama’s diligence to the effort, the audience is able to sympathize with the tragedy of unaffordable health care costs by exposing the root of Obama’s health care ideology. It plays on the emotions that health related financial burden can strike anybody, even the President’s own mother. While it confirmed many Democratic votes by appealing to individual causes and evoking pride in the troops, hopefully it raises awareness among undecided voters. After all, even upper middle-class families are facing the hardships of unemployment and bankruptcy.

    March 17, 2012 at 2:50 pm |
  93. Ed C.

At a time people have no jobs or have to work two and three to make ends meet, Obama spends a billion dollars to buy the presidency, his wife dresses in designer clothing and they throw parties for their children with movie stars in tow, while convincing illegals, immigrants and the poor they get to be middle class if they vote for him. Obama, the president for the middle class, what about the rest of us. CNN probably won't print this because they hide the truth.

    March 17, 2012 at 3:25 pm |
    • James

The reason that people today need to work 2 or 3 jobs is because of the low wages (middle class actual wealth has been stagnant for over 10 years) and lack of benefits (which is a product of right to work legislation championed by Republicans). Furthermore, your comments about Obama's spending for the presidency and what his wife wears and who his children hang around is nothing more than unsubstantiated gossip fueled by the same Republicans crowd who will do and say anything to denigrate this man and his family. What we do know is that President Obama has presided over the following: death of OBL, re-emergence of GM , lowering of the unemployment rate, the ending of the war in Iraq and the slow, steady economic rebound of the US economy. Lastly, Obama is well respected within the US (OUTSIDE of Republicans, that is) and internationally. His family is beautiful and he performs well for this country.

For the approval of the Obamacare, Obama needed 12 votes. But he exchanged those votes for his signed Execute Order, eliminating abortion from the Bill. Let us have clear that abortion is a choice, not a sickness and have no place in Health Insurance. Sen. Stupak along with Republicans and Democrats trusted Obama, but after the Act passed, he cancelled his executive order. Now, as a consequence of his lack of honor and integrity, abortion and contraceptives will be free for all do to his mandate. 17 Minutes eh? Must include all of the highlights. Particularly disturbing in this is the repeating of the lie that Obama's mother did not have or could not get good health insurance when she had ovarian cancer. This has been proven to be false before but I guess in the quest for re-election, re-telling the lie is fine. The fact is she had very good coverage which covered her treatment. What she did not receive was long term disability in a job she started two months after being diagnosed. A far different issue. So yet a again, the truth becomes a mere technicality for this administration and naturally, the media is complicit.

I also believe Obama pretended to have him killed and that the burial at sea story was just a ploy to redirect everyone's attention for a while so they can come out with a freezer-burnt corpse of Bin Laden shortly before the election. Most of you are sheep and will be stupid enough to believe we froze him after Obama "killed" him in 2011. This is the only way they can roll out a frozen body of Bin Laden without it being obvious he was frozen for a decade.
