Obama reports $45 million February

CNN's Paul Steinhauser reports the Obama campaign has announced they raised $45 million in February. That's a significant uptick from January of this year but about $10 million off the pace from the same period four years ago:

(CNN) – President Barack Obama's re-election campaign reported Monday that they raised more than $45 million in February.

The campaign made their early morning announcement on Twitter.

Obama's re-election team says 348,000 people donated to the president's campaign last month, with 105,000 being first time contributors. The campaign highlighted their small dollar grassroots efforts, saying the average donation last month was $59.04, with 97.7% of all donations being $250 or less.

The $45 million raised for the Obama re-election effort and for the Democratic National Committee is up from the $29.1 million the Obama re-election campaign raised in January, and brings to more than $300 million the amount brought in since the president organized his re-election efforts last April.

I am curious if the executive order published on whitehouse.gov is Obama's exit strategy from "public service".

Obama is going to need at least a Billion dollars to make up for the 5 Trillion dollars in stupid mistakes , he has imposed upon the American people. Good luck trying to buy your way into a second term, because you sure won't win, based upon your failed first term.

very true...Obama is very good at this "fundraising" thing. I sure wish he was better at responsible spending with our limited budget. Unfortunately, he's as bad a responsible spending as a 6 year old in a candy store.

I so totally agree with you but none of these GOP presidential clowns or any of these rethugs or teabaggers will do anything as well. I think we are just have to settle for the lesser of the two evils and that will have to be Obama.

He's good at getting regular people to donate because he is a politician representing real people. He is good at fundraising because he is good at his job.

It is why republicon are wholly reliant on billionaires and not the American public to get money for their campaigns. They only represent those billionaires – a couple of hundred men in exclusive country clubs are their ONLY constiuency.

Did you also rail at George W in the same way? What about when he started two wars? And he didn't even put those wars into the budget! And meanwhile he he got us further into debt by giving the wealthiest tax cuts! It's strange how Obama gets so little credit for all the accomplishments, and make no mistake, he has accomplished more than most presidents in my lifetime (and probably yours). The health care law alone is major and is the beginning of this country's beginning to come into the 21st century re health care. Gays in the military, exiting Iraq, killing bin Laden and other terrorist leaders, getting people back to work, getting financial regulations back, saving the auto industry, and a very long list. And if you feel some of these accomplishments are not in the interest of the country, you are probably a very wealthy person.

DrCole...'as bad at spending as six year old in a candy store'?!? You must have gotten your doctororate in something other than economics and history! LOL! I think that would be more of an accurate description of GWB!! President Obama's had to double-down on the already existing shut-down or stroke our nation was in the process of having, by doing whatever he could to stop it RIGHT THEN!! Of course by using the government taxes bank, which...YES, is paid into by taxpayers..NOTE: We are the government...we all don't go to Washington, so we ELECT people who we believe will stand for us in Washington; and he's even at times had to use some of the same 'virtual' bank practices as the 'six year old' used to hold us up on top of the 'cliff', until he could get us off of it!! Obama's working hard and as fast as he can to try to repair the 'COLLATERAL DAMAGE' of the total national structure of America, home and abroad! I'm not an economist and I can understand the need for most of the steps he was forced to take and is still being forced to; and mostly with NO HELP! America was like a speeding, run-away car with no brakes about to crash into a stone wall...he pulled the emergency brakes! Had he not done that, you folk would've really been crying foul, whinning, and complaining! He would have had to accept even more rambuncious name calling and disrespect! America was like a car that was hydro-planing on a wet road or skidding on ice, when he had to turn the wheel into the SAME direction the car was skkiding into to keep it from turning upside down and then crashing!! America was SICK!! An example even medically is...when a person is loosing BLOOD, the doctors immediately start pumping in more blood until the body starts to stabilize itself! Then they work on finding and repairing the cause(s)!! You talk about 6 year olds...I believe there are some in this nation whom if they were given and taught the details of the 'Fall of New Babylon', provided with the pros and the cons of how to stop it and move forward, even they would understand that Obama did what he had to do!! Why can't you?? You folk are just so evil...you don't want to even appear to understand it!! Pathetic!!

Yes, CEO's get theirs from stealing from the company's coffers......get real tom. Did you sleep through the financial crisis we went through when Bush and his oil cronies let the floodgates open up to the thieves on Wall St.? The WHOLE reason the economy tanked is because CEO's were allowed to take what they wanted and laugh all the way to the bank, they shipped all the middle class jobs to China and said screw you poor-bastards I'm going to have to have a 6 or 7 figure bonus for doing nothing productive and running your company into the ground.

Apples and oranges, my friend. Do you suggest that campaign money, which is voluntarily donated to support Obama's re-election should be redirected towards the national debt? What about the donors' rights to decide where their money is spent?
BTW, campaign money is not wasted. It is spent within communities along the campaign trail, helping their local economies.

Thanks GetReal explaining to us all of what happens to campaign money. I thought it all just went to setting up campign offices and paying campaign workers, Maybe now all of the haters who are worried about how much money President Obama, even after all they've done to discredit him and his efforts, will feel better that even some their own communities will be reaping some of the benefits of his solicitations!! Where were the republicons who now decry deficits when bush was running them up for no discernible reason? Or reagan?

Deficits only matter to these people when it is a Democrat in office.

And while the trend started up again by bush in 2002 has to stop, doing so during an ecnomic recovery is a very bad idea. We need to start slowly by adjusting the top tax bracket to where it was under Clinton – in that time of unparalleled growth-and work on other things a piece at a time so as not to destroy the economic recovery the President and Democrats got going.

Hey CNN – where is the story on C-Lo? You know, the guy that was singing FU to the crowd at the WH. I guess this is ok, but BO needs to bash Rush about his comments and make it a "teaching moment". I wonder if his daughters attended the FU concert.

You can't possibly be serious. C-lo's song and Limbaugh's comments could not be further apart in meaning and signficance. You right wing knuckleheads really need to get a grip. Just come right and admit your a racist. Don't hide behind this intellectual trash because you are clearly not fooling anyone.

Just to be clear, that was Cee Lo Green. Important distinction for people like Jean2009 who will assail me for this! Maybe that's why it hasn't been reported here...they couldn't figure out why I comment like i do then would sing like that at the WH 🙂

Gee C-Lo why would we ever confuse you with Cee Lo Green....he may be crude but has his heart in the right place for the serious stuff. Where as C-Lo on this site claims to be independent yet all we ever see posted is right-wing drivel.

        March 19, 2012 at 8:49 pm |

Elliot – I laugh when people call me names and tell them sticks and stones. Rush is upset with a single woman who wants the American people to buy her condoms so she can have sex when she wants, but Rush is the problem. C-lo spews hate over the radio and kids look up to him. Hate is hate in my book.
You libs are totally ignorant – you support things like this, hate/kill rap, so called comedy shows who call woman the C word, the B word and other stuff, but it is OK becauseyou feel these haters are on your side. Wake up, get out of your parents basement and get into the real world – HATE is HATE no matter what side it comes from.

      • C-Lo

Wow Jean...first of all, I NEVER claimed to be independent, that would be Steveo. I have always said I lean libertarian and have told you why. I am not a "right wing theocrat" nor your nightmare repeated rendition of "nazi." As I have told you before, my preference of government would completely rule out Nazism as, like with communism, that takes a strongarmed central govt–goes against everything I stand for.

Heart in the right place for the serious stuff????? Seriously???? Just because I believe in local community involvement vs. heavy handed gov't with overblown budgets where fraud and corruption rule the day. Interesting story in the local paper about Jeff Immelt–you remember, Enron? Spoke at the CU Leeds School of Business on ethics and the lessons he learned–that legal does not mean ethical. Interestingly, he furthered my arguments in the area of gov't and legislation. He said that complex laws create business opportunity, and the more complex the rules, the more the opportunity. In other words, big gov't with its multitude of legislation creates these monsters. And yes, the "Republicans" were as much to blame as the Dems in sucking more and more power to DC over the last 2 decades.

THIS is the original message of the Tea Party, not the b@stardized version the lefties at the Huffing and Puffing post and Daily Kosmonot spew.

      • C-Lo

Well that's (not) odd. I post a reply in defense of the baseless accusations from Jean and it gets moderated out...Well, I'll try again.

First Jean, I never claimed to be an independent, that would be Steveo, and he and I just happen to agree on most points. I have been forthcoming in my libertarian leanings and outlined why. I am not a "right wing theocrat" nor Not-Z (since you can apparently throw this term around like a 10 cent Frisbee but I get censored). As I've said before, Not-Zism does not work under my desired form of governance as it, like com munism requires a heavy handed gov't.

Heart not in the right place???? Seriously??? Just because I believe in community based efforts vs the corrupted, exploitable, fraud ridden, fleecing federal gov't programs does not make a hateful or selfish individual, judge though you may.

Drivel??? really??? How many cut and paste posts have you seen from me? How many "right wing" sites have I referrenced? Not one, unlike you and your Huffing and Puffing post and Daily Kozmonot and George Sore-Loss propoganda. And yes I know that's where you get most of your "news" because I read them too.

I know you don't recognize it Jean, but you are not an independent thinker, but a sound board reflecting the noise coming from these soc-ialist leaning propogandists.

Federal agencies spent at least $945 million on contracts for advertising services in fiscal year 2010, and that sum doesn't include all public communications expenditures in the agencies reviewed or even all of the executive branch, a congressional report out last week shows.

This is YOUR money. As a shareholder, do you feel you received an adequate “return” or benefit?

Of course this info is hard to find on CNN Politics

    March 19, 2012 at 11:46 am |
    • Emmy Skaddittle

and what does this have to do with the presidents fundraising? are you really suggesting that these agencies spent this money on the presidents reelection?

      March 19, 2012 at 12:35 pm |
    • Dubya

So? It is chumpc change in the federal budget for one thing. It is absolutely essential that the public KNOW what benefits are, what rules are, etc. and it is part of some agencies madated mission to promote things like helathier eating, stopping smoking which again falls under that ad budget.

So good. 900 million for ads is cheap compared to the cost of one Aegis destroyer. That entire budget is the cost of building a B2 bomber. So good. It puts lots of people to work and uses taxpayer money to do things that are good for taxpayers. Excellent.

bring me to washington i got nothing to hide and i got many things to say and the lord is with me so i fear not if you are really care about us like you say then i say this let us debate real issues im willing to talk are you

I don't give to any of these campaigns, except for $1 to the presidential campaign on the tax return. I've gotten phone calls asking for support for candidate X then the very next thing they ask for is cash. My vote should be good enough.

It eludes me why anyone would want to throw their hard earned money away on this loser. The list of his failures is endless. He botched the war in Afghanistan, which could have ended in 2010. He botched it by inaction providing Karzai a chance to go up for reelection by rigging them (Bush had warned Karzai not to do so, but Karzai correctly assessed Obama as a weak president that would not interfere) and by not providing McChrystal with the troops he needed badly. He botched his own anti-gun scheme with "fast and furious" which was intended to blame US gun owners for the problems in Mexico. He is therefore directly responsible for the death of hundreds of Mexicans and at least one Federal agent. He is undermining the military in any way he can, He is undermining the health care of the same military. At present the military has a healthcare plan that is way below "Obamacare." Obama knows this, yet he does not want to fix it because "they are in the military voluntary." The White house is actively blocking all news that is not favorable for Obama and put the media under heavy pressure. (shame on the media for taking it). He is responsible for rising racism due to supporting racist groups like the Black Panthers. He is responsible for creating enhanced polarization in Congress and Senate, paralyzing government. (which is not bad actually, since the economy is going better now) He started an illegal war in Libia, His long form birth certificate has been exposed as a forgery (nobody wants to touch that subject though). What else will this man get away with?

this loser that beat McCain and will thrash Romney? lol you're going to look pretty silly in November when you're wearing that HUGE EGG on your face!
Romney can't even win the conservative vote, what makes you think independents will sway to his campaign when he panders to every single special interest he thinks will give him money?

Also, your rant would be interesting if it weren't for the inconvenient truth that Bush got us into both the wars, we never went to war with Libya (not Libia...maybe you're at war with Labia), the Mexican drug cartel being WHOLLY responsible for the deaths in Mexico, the fact that racism comes from white trash like you that believes anything Rush will shove down your throat.....the Black Panthers? really? that's all you could think of ....that's not even creative, it's just dumb and incorrect. And, the birth certificate thing....seriously you're grasping at straws. Everyone knows he's a US Citizen, get over it.

Wow, paranoid much? Is there anything you missed from your Faux news points? I'm sorry but NO president is Superman and perfect and there will always be "mistakes" made. However, when comparing your list to the list of this President's accomplishments, I would say the accomplishments win out! OBAMA 2012!!

Obama is being beat up over a pipeline from Canada to the southern states. Why does't he just suggest the Government hire thousands to build a refinery next to the Canadian border ? Why move the oil to the south ?

get this straight blind non thinking voters for the immoral obomination liar, obama has no accomplishments to speak of! he keeps trying to implement some of the things that the republican runners are talking about! yes, he wants to try and accomplish something at the last minute, but his lack of knowledge on how to run a country bears him out that he does not have the smarts to turn anything around! look at gas prices, he says gas is a thing of the past, well tell all those who are going to the pumps paying for it, i am quite sure they will disagree! this country has more oil than any nation, but the immoral liberals who pander to the enviro-mentals won't have it! drilling for more oil will stop all dependency, but those who allow the obomination to think for them don't care, they look at the obomination as their god, when what he truely is, is satan in the flesh! get a clue blind followers of the obomination, start thinking for yourselves!
