The president is going to Florida

President Obama heads to Florida to tout the Buffett rule, a concept that he’s been promoting since before the State of the Union. He’ll head to Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton to give a speech about the economy where he’ll continue to push a tax increase for people making over a million dollars a year.

The vote in the Senate is in less than a week and while some say the bill won’t make it very far, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney says the vote will put senators on the record, "[T]hat's what votes do, they put Senators on record and we will see how senators handle that,....maybe those on the side of the fence, perhaps those who have been opposed to it in the past, will rethink their position, consider the fundamental fairness of the legislation and vote yes."

He’ll also attend three different fundraisers while in Florida.

Jean – after all of this time I've been thinking you are not a racist, now it appears I was wrong. And yes, I know you are a person of color.
If you saw the video I assume you would be as disgusted as I am over this. These thugs should be brought to justice.

Onlookers laughed and did nothing to help as a man was beaten, stripped and robbed on the street in Baltimore.

The attack, which police say happened on March 18 after St. Patrick's Day celebrations, was captured by at least two cameras. Video of it went viral.

"Not only did they rob him, but they attempted to strip him of his dignity. They tore his clothes off; they mocked him. That behavior just will not be tolerated," said Detective Nicole Monroe with the Baltimore police.

Jean, he wasn't black so I understand how it meant nothing to people like you who only look at issues of race.

We know why the Prez is going to Florida. He is secretly scouting out a place to retire to in January !!! Maybe he can organize those Orange Pickers. Ya think ???

So sad for you since he won't be retiring any time soon. My bet is Hawaii.

Well we will have to wait but the Tea Leaves are indicating Romney will be elected in November. One other indicator is only Republicians are elected on the 6Th of November. Now seriously who wants the job with all the problems the "Inmates" have left us. No matter who gets elected in November all the problems in the country will still exist. So be frugal and be conservative!!

Did anyone see a George Zimmerman's video? It is not about seeing a video the point is were they charged? The question you didn't answer because yes they unlike Zimmerman were charged.

        April 10, 2012 at 12:54 pm |
      • John

Wrong. Even though you can clearly see their faces as they were beating the man, you can clearly see their faces as they were kicking the man, you can clearly see their faces as they stripped the man while he was out on the ground, they have not been arrested and nobody is talking about it. The incident is over a month old.

and moron, if they could have they would have charged him...this Homie struck the wrong guy and that is on him.

      • Bill in STL

Jean... hey there... as I have a daughter in the field of law, she did it on her own without my help, it is common practice not to press charges until the facts are known if self defense is the claim... Funny Mr. Zimmerman did not run and voluntarily turned himself in when charges were filed. Sounds like a real bad dude there. Funny the father or what ever his relationship is said that they would not be satisfied until Mr. Zimmerman was arrested, charged, went to trial and was convicted... Can you say kangaroo court?

Paul Ryan says we need to stop all of the tax expenditures so that we can lower rates for everybody – revenue neutral. But what he does not say is that if we go revenue neutral, then our basic social programs, as we know them, will have to go or be cut back substantially. He calls that "saving" them for the future. But what he proposes is not only "reform", it is fundamentally changing those systems in order to make those cuts. And the net result is that more money ends up in the hands of the top 2%, and less in the hands of retirees, the disabled, and most working people. There is very little deficit management involved in Ryan's budget, but there is a whole lot of "starve the beast". And many of the regulatory protections our people enjoy will disappear.

President Obama also callls for closing those tax expenditures, but he calls for higher taxes on the wealthiest Americans as well. His goal is not a revenue neutral result, he wants to begin to balance the budget and get the deficits under control. Fixing Social Security and fixing Medicare is not difficult, they need some tinkering – means testing, eligibility requirements, or a higher threshold income for taxes. The president is not about to throw the baby out with the bath water. The net result is that more mney ends up in the hands of the "99%" and less ends up in the hands of the "1%", and we still make substantial progress toward deficit reduction. In the process we preserve and protect our capitalist economic system from those among us who are driven by aggressive greed.

The choice is very clear. And I trust those finding retiremnent in their future will include the greedy ones.

    April 10, 2012 at 10:54 am |
    • John

Ryan has a plan. BO does not. How do you have details of a BO plan when it doesn't exist? Also, the dems will never agree with means testing or eligibility requirements.
"The president is not about to throw out the baby with the bathwater". He already did this w/Obamacare and GM.
What you neglected to say was Ryans plan calls for doing away with loop holes to offset the tax cuts. You also do not mention BO taking billions out of Medicare as part of Obamacare.

      April 10, 2012 at 11:17 am |
      • Beth

But when he is asked specifics about those loopholes he says : "We will worry about that later" Because we are not idiots, we do know what that means. If you need and explanation for that YOU ARE AN IDIOT!

        April 11, 2012 at 4:05 pm |
    • jean2009

I see where Bush wishes his name was not connected with the Bush era tax cuts. LOL! For the rest of us we wish his name wasn't connected with 8 years of epic failure.
Ryan's plan is just a repeat of Bush's epic failure...or a repeat of the same old chant of give everything to the rich guys so it can't trickle anywhere.

      April 10, 2012 at 12:44 pm |
      • John

At least Ryan has a plan, unlike the person in the WH... That is the same old from libs. And, once again, Bush has been gone for 3.5 years. You libs think he was the worst president ever, but yet he is the standard you hold BO to?
Jean, it seems all the dems can do now is divide.
You dems keep saying "give everything to the rich". You do understand we are talking about THEIR MONEY, not the governmnets, that the governmnet keeps trying to get its hands on – right? It is amazing that BO and this administration has wasted BILLIONS of $$$ of our money and you libs keep talking about stealing more money from people who actually worked for it.
One more thing Jean. I have never worked for a poor person. Therefore, it stands to reason that rich people really do create jobs. So you can stop the party line of "trickle down doesn't work", unless you think poor people and governmnet actually create jobs, which they do not.

        April 10, 2012 at 12:56 pm |
      • jean2009

The President has a plan sorry that it doesn't agree with yours...but yes... poor people do create jobs millions of them for a fact.
        Rich People Don't Create Jobs

If tax cuts for the rich created jobs we should currently be drowning in jobs and not have an 8.2% unemployment rate. After all the rich have been given every tax break for the last 11.5 years and all it has done is wreck the economy. Where are the jobs that should have been created by our current lowest tax rate for the last half century?

All you are doing John is blowing the same old GOP smoke and mirrors. Yours is a load of the same-old same-old that doesn't fly.

        April 10, 2012 at 1:20 pm |
      • John

Jean, let us try to get on the same page. Poor people create millions of jobs? Tell us what 1 is?
I see you listed Buffet? How do you feel about him not paying taxes he owes? How do you feel about him fighting the governmnet about taxes they claim he owes? Say what you will, but rich people and big companies create jobs.
Do you dems all agree w/Jean that poor people create millions of jobs? I didn't think so.
3.5 years of this administration Jean. All the key indicators are worse than when BO took office. You have ignored my question so I will ask it again. When the next administration enters office and all key indicators are worse than when BO entered office, as they are now. Do you feel that BO is leaving the next president in better shape even though ALL the key indicators i.e. unemployment, high food prices, high gas prices, etc. are worse than when he entered office?

yup for the record lets see where all the senators stand. Then we know who we are voting for .

I believe that is great that it puts Senators on the record. Here is whats next that will strenghten This great Presidents real vision of the National Security of this Great Nation. They are all going to be CALLED OUT on whether or not 100 % of the supply of The keysone will STAY in The US or Keep going right from Canada to other countries. Mittens has been bought & paid for by the Big oil companies & is lobbbing hard for their profits for the supply to come down from the North & 100 % to leave The US. Again Mr Personality has been bought from the Koch Bros & Rove & Big oil. He doesnt give a damn about the struggles of The workin men & woman while he gets 12 elevators for his 12 homes for his 12 cars. He is as UN- American as China & Iran when it Comes to trying to Surpress the votes & voices of American. He knows his only chance of winning is CHEATING. Well there is a little group called Color of change that will prove that he what he is. Willard honestly is directly telling Rove & the kochs to Rig this election by making it hard for the disabled, Hispanics, the elderlly, the poor, minorities & as many middle class voices that dont have the proper ID for them to cast their choice.

    April 10, 2012 at 11:39 am |
    • John

More class warefare, really? I know you hate him, but he actually earns his own money. The things you list that he has he paid for (a concept libs do not understand). Maybe you should look at the billions of our money, working peoples money, that BO has thrown down the toilet.
Do you libs understand the difference between people making their own money and the governmnet giving OUR MONEY away for the types of boondoggles we have seen from this administration.

Yea thats a guy who cares for the US economy. While doing this he Raped the US TREASURY for Millions & Millions. He by far the most MARVELOUSLY earmark taker in history. I save the 02 games. No you didnt Mitt, The 750 Million from the US Government did!!! How bout those secret swiss banlk accounts? Sure Mittens isnt hidin anything. Russia is our biggest Enemy. WHat a WHACKJOB. 1. Biden didn't service either yet that was good enough for the the vice presidency. In fact, Biden recieved more deferments (5) than Romney (3). So by your theory, Biden's a draft dodger too? But gets a pass because he is a liberal?

        2. Speaking of sending jobs to China, ever hear of a man by the name of Jeff Immelt? He is the CEO of GE and is packing up an entire division for a move from Wisconsin to China. You mad at him? Oh by the way, Jeff Immelt is one of Obama's Czar. Hold on to your hat.... HE IS THE JOB CZAR and is sending an entire GE division from the U.S. to China. Where the outrage? Perhaps you're just hypocritical instead?

        3. As Romney was in charge of the Olympics, yes he saved the games! Otherwise it woud have been an embarassment to the country!

        4. What else you got?

Do they in their little silly, and obviously little stupid, 'crazy' minds believe that we shouldn't FINALLY be standing up to the 'powers that be' for one another, and even when we trust and believe we are right?? Granted black or white!...and especially when we believe we are right?? TALK IS CHEAP and that's all we've been getting from the Rethuglicans is a bunch of 'blabbering'!! Their biggest mission and message is to 'Make Barack H Obama a One Term President'!! Are they completely gone 'beserk'? Have they totally gone 'out to lunch'???
