Obama: "I'm probably going to need a helmet" before November election

President Obama welcomed the Alabama Crimson Tide football team to the South Lawn on Thursday to congratulate the program on its 2011 BCS National Championship.

This is the second time in three years that Alabama Coach Nick Saban has brought his team to the White House, and given the team’s recent success Obama ended his remarks by saying, “who knows, maybe I’ll see you again.”

As is customary, Saban and his players presented the president with an Alabama football jersey, but this time the team also gave the president a helmet.

“We certainly don’t want to be responsible for any head injuries that the president might have,” Saban joked.

After accepting the gifts, Obama looked down at Alabama Republican Sen. Richard Shelby who was seated in the front row and replied with a smile, “I was mentioning yesterday, I’m probably going to need a helmet between now and November. What do you think Shelby?”

Helmet, maybe. You're definitely going to need hip waders to get through all of Mitty's BS.

Perhaps you could allow the GOP/TP members of Congress to meet the Bama team? Show them what's capable when everyone is (literally) pushing toward the same goal instead of flopping on the field because they don't like the coach or the plays he's calling?

The only taxpayers that need to be concerned is the one percent of taxpayers who, by all voter polls overwhelmingly agree, are getting far more cuts and loopholes than they need or deserve. Once the bulk of the TP/Norquist obstructionists are gone from the house, perhaps the new representatives will know that their constituents pay them to represent their views, not right-wing party dogma paid for by the rich minority lobbyists.

      April 19, 2012 at 6:49 pm |

Which taxpayers are you referring to? The ones he's already lowered the taxes on or those who haven't been paying their taxes. I am sure you have heard all the facts by now in the last 3 years but for some reason you still haven't gotten the picture yet.

reason dictates there is no good reason to vote for obama in this election...and as Mitt gins up his machine we will understand this...many voters are just ignorant of what obama has done and need some education and they are going to get it. obama is a failed experiment on par with carter.

You need to stop reading the Faux-Noise site where the ignorant and uninformed roam. Let me tell you about the failed Bush-Republican experiment that lost a surplus and put this country in the worst financial crisis that hasn't been seen since the Great Depression. Obama has been working on a recovery that the Republicans have fought every step of the way. If you want to go back to that failed Bush-Republican experiment that has already been proven wrong by history, then go ahead. You have the right to do that. But the American people will no get fooled again but Republican BS that has not been good for the country at all. Obama 2012

        @drod3,

You realize the Dot.Com bubble started under CLINTON? The worst of it happened around March 2000, just 2 months into the Bush presidency.

From wikipedia: Over 1999 and early 2000, the U.S. Federal Reserve increased interest rates six times,[8] and the economy began to lose speed. The dot-com bubble burst, numerically, on Friday, March 10, 2000

This started blowing up under Clinton! Clinton got lucky as timing is everything!

        April 20, 2012 at 3:02 pm |

You do understand, John, that a simple majority in the Senate isn't enough...You need 60 votes to get anything through...

        ---------
Way off by about a FULL YEAR! Sorry! 2 months for Bush would have been March 2001! and not 2000! Yet that better makes my point, the bubble bust was under CLINTON and not BUSH! I wonder how much a a dent that put into the "surplus"!

He again show THIS IS THE PEOPLES WHITE HOUSE. Every time he gets a chance to honor Americans he does so, invites them to the white house. He is truly the president of ALL AMERICANS AND PROVES IN MANY WAYS THIS IS THE WHITE HOUSE OF ALL AMERICANS.

I pray each day for his safety. God knows what is in the heart of this man and will make sure he wins the 2012 election.

Mitt scares the hell out of me. I DO NOT TRUST THIS MAN. He is too insecure in spite of his wealth, has no clue as to the woes, challenges, needs, desires, aspirations of the middle working class people. In fact their wants, needs, desires are the same as his, but he is too insensitive to realize it.

Mitt scares but Obama does not? Whatever...
Just like yesterday when BO talked about people being born with a silver spoon in their mouth – then Carney tried to say he wasn't talking about Romney. You have to be an idiot to think Carney is telling the truth. This administration clearly thinks their followers are idiots.

      3. "I'm not concerned about the very poor"
      4. "I can't have illegals, I'm running for office for pete's sake!"
      5. "My Massachusetts healthcare plan should be the model for the nation!"

To WDinDallas ... Mr. Romney said, "This is going to be fun." And I say, " Only if you enjoy watching your
own desires for the White House dwindle down to nothing." Mr. Romney knows that President Obama has done a terrific job getting us out of a terrible mess, considering how the Republicans in Congress, in both the House and the Senate, have tried everything they can to stop him. And no, the Democrats don't have the majority in the Senate .. there are too many Blue Dogs that go the way of the Republicans. If the Democrats had the majority, there would be a lot more Bills passed .. the deficit would be coming down faster than it is now ... The Democrats have the majority in name only .. which doesn't mean squat!

This president has taken so much heat since Day 1 it is really quite remarkable that he even wants another term. If I were him I would say "scr*w it", I tried to make this country better but didn't get the help I needed to do so. And, although the Congress is mostly to blaime, we are just at fault for not standing with President Obama – afterall, it was us who gave the House to the Repubs (shameful!). President Obama didn't run on "Yes I Can" – he ran on "Yes WE Can" and that is where we come in. We were not there for him when he needed us, so we get what we sow unfortunately. This election please be sure to vote and don't take it for granted that the President will win – PLEASE!

I couldn't have said it better myself. The Tea Party crack poison gave the Republicans a high in the 2010 midterm elections but has given them a pain in the asss since then. They have not helped the recovery one bit but instead have fought everyyhing Obama has tried to do to increase the pace of the recovery. In November the people that were fooled by the Tea Potty will hopefully come to their senses and vote for Obama. The Recovery will take off and the country will get stronger.

I have listened to him for over 3 years and he has not one solid concrete plan only that he will undo whatever President Obama has done to create a level playing field for you, me and the rest of the country. i am in no way trying to sway your mind, you have that right but I just want to hear some plans that he may have that would create something better without destroying the middle class. If he has a good one I, being a moderate would consider but so far all i hear from him and other Republicans is that they don't like Obama. Okay, again that is your right but why? He's lied about what? So far in the last 3 years I have heard Romney swith positions that his counterparts have called out. A true etch a sketc character. I'll wait

For those who say Romney is the person who will turn this country around if he becomes president ( I really hope he does not) all I can say is look at the Paul Ryan Budget plan, the one Mitt is on board with, and then tell me Romney is the man; 4 trillion in tax breaks for the richest americans while cutting programs needed by the poorest americans. We have a moral obligation in the country to help those in need, but the republicans seems to believe just the opposite.
