POTUS sits on bus made famous by Rosa Parks

Just before speaking at a fundraiser in Detroit Wednesday, President Barack Obama was able to visit and reflect upon an iconic piece of civil rights history. The president told supporters at the Henry Ford Museum he was able to sit briefly on the bus made famous by activist Rosa Parks whose refusal to move from her seat for a white passenger sparked the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott in 1955.

"I just sat in there for a moment and pondered the courage and
tenacity that is part of our very recent history but is also part of
that long line of folks who sometimes are nameless, oftentimes didn't
make the history books, but who constantly insisted on their dignity,
their share of the American dream," the president said.

I believe he sees some of the same that Ms. Parks saw in 1955 and he looks out that window, but he will never use as a card. This man deserves more time to finish what he started. Judge him by the content of his charachter, America.

Honestly, the President is doing a wonderful job! It's great that the President is visiting these historic places. I would bet no other living President has done anything close to this and he should be commended for it. Great job Sir! Don't mind the haters. They're the reason that he's in the White House in the first place. He gets my vote and more than half of the country's vote in November again. Lastly, somebody please inform me, when did this country have racial unity? It's always been divided. Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Tea Party, Coffee Party. If we really were one true nation, then there would be no political divides and everyone would stand behind the presiding Commander-In-Chief regardless of the color of his skin. Time to rally the troops.

I wouldn't be worried about George Soros and his $17 billion. Romney will have the Koch Brothers' $50 billion warchest, Sheldon Adelson's $25 billion dollars, Karl Rove, who's already running negative attack ads has already bragged about having estimated being able to raise $300 million in secret donor money through Crossroads GPS his established 501(c)(4) organization, Big Oil Money, Wall Street will fall in line with Mitt Romney, His private equity buddies as well as hedge funds. When all is said and done. Romney's camaign including SuperPACs will make Obama's campaign funds pale in comparison to what Obama will raise. I project Romney to be running a $2 billion campaign.

Do some research before you make a fool of yourself. The president is right and you are wrong on the seating of Mrs. Parks. Hard to believe that we sometimes let our hatred keep us from believing that the President could right huh? Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

    • Captain Obvious

He's sitting in the seat Rosa Park sat in. He knows a hell of a lot more than you do about Rosa Parks. Among other things.

      April 19, 2012 at 1:56 pm |
    • Shannon

Why is that a problem? It is a myth that Rosa Parks wouldn't move to the back of the bus – what she refused to do is ride the bus standing, relinquishing her seat to a white customer who had no place to sit. Where he is seated on the bus is irrelevant to this piece of history.

      April 19, 2012 at 2:01 pm |
    • HMaloney

You obviously need to go back and read about Rosa Parks yourself. She wasn't sitting in the back of the bus, she was sitting in the middle of the bus in the first row behind the "whites only" section. She refused to give up her middle-bus seat and go stand in to back when the "whites only" section got too full.

      April 19, 2012 at 2:16 pm |
    • Satros

He may not be able to sit in the actual seat, it either roped off, or he wanted to respect her and -not- sit in the exact same spot. To suggest that this man doesn't know who Rosa Parks is is completely absurd. The famous picture we see of her sitting in the seat with a white man behind her was taken -after- the famous incident, it's highly likely that she wasn't in the exact front seat, likely no way in hell the driver would have allowed that. I do not know for certain without looking at the museum cards for the bus, but I bet he's right where he should be.

      April 19, 2012 at 2:23 pm |
    • LW

your name says it all! just replace the "e" with an "i". Do you even know who Rosa Parks is?? Of course our president knows who she is. Without heroes like Ms. Parks, he never would have had a chance to be our president. So please, enough with the criticisms.

Please look at this website's diagram from the National Archive, she was not sitting at the very front. In fact she was sitting on the opposite side of where he sat. He is sitting in the seat used for mock ups later.

"The president told supporters at the Henry Ford Museum he was able to sit briefly on the bus made famous by activist Rosa Parks "

At what point in the story did it say that he sat where she sat? It says that he sat in the bus, not the seat.

But, hey, don't let your misunderstanding of the article stop you from making disparaging remarks.

Rosa Parks wasn't sitting in the front row of the bus. She was seated in the front of the Colored Section. When the bus filled up, the bus driver told her to move even further back, because he was stubborn and racist in his ways.

That's the actual seat she sat in, if you view any historical photos. The buses were not very long back then and that's considered the front.

      April 19, 2012 at 4:39 pm |
    • Steve O

Apparently YOU don't. He happens to be sitting in the seat Ms. Parks was occupying.

Rosa Parks was sitting in the first row of the black section, the white section was mostly empty. As the bus made its route, the white section filled up. By law, black people could only sit as long as no white person was standing. At the next stop, the bus driver told the black people on the bus to stand up, and Rosa Parks was the only one who refused.

All of the courage it took to stage the arrest when there were hundred others who refused to move, went to jail before Rosa and were never talked about. Makes one wonder about her relationship with someone in the movement,

This photo was taken at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan- a great place for history fanatics. The bus spoken of is NOT the same one that Rosa Parks sat on, but a replica. Nobody knows where the original bus went to- more than likely a boneyard for old buses a long time ago.

So just because he reflects on an heritage experience that defines the african american movement for equality, He's using the race card. I guess you feel threatened that a black person wants to connect with a black heritage experience because it reminds you that your heritage had something to do with that? I don't know...

I guess I see as this...if he was of Jewish heritage and he took a visit to the Auschwitz Concentration camp in germany. Would i feel compelled to say he's pulling the Anti-Semitic card?

Why surprised? He actually plays the "race card" all the time – including within just a few weeks, his "coded" reference to Trayvon Martin – as in "if I had a son, he would have looked like Trayvon" – and I don't think he was talking about his height or particular facial features. This was a political stunt pure and simple – like Bill Clinton's "finding" a cross of rocks on a Normandy beach during his D-Day tour – rocks which turned out to have been carefully arranged by his staff. Or the "spontaneous" Bill and Hilary dancing moment during his sex scandal days. It's all about appearances.

And at a more fundamental level, the President's shtick in general is really based on playing the whole deck of divisive cards: the "socioeconomic card" – a world where "the rich" don't pay "their fair share," even thogh the top 5% of earners pay 40% of all income taxes and the bottom 40% percent pay 0% of income taxes and where the companies that provide us with a steady supply of energy (when ALLOWED to do so are evil; the "woman card" where Republicans "are waging a war on women" (though that's been blunted a little by his proxy's poor playing of the "stay at home moms don't work and know nothing card"); the "undocument immigrants" card, where any rational attempts to control the country's borders are branded as also racist; the "motored around voter card," where again, simple steps to verify that someone's not committing voting fraud are also anti-poor and anti-minority, while it's amply documented that wholesale, organized fraud exists and vehicles have been used to ferry homeless people around to vrious districts, for a meal or a few dollars ("vote early and vote often!"); the"green (energy) card" where those alt-energy companies with good political connections can get "investments" from the federal gov't that a smart venture capital firm would never even touch because of the absence of a sound business plan; and whle I know I'm forgetting some (even the "dog treatment" card against Romney from a man who's eaten dogs in Indonesia – both irrelevant because so old, but played nonetheless) (and I admit counter-playing here), along with the "out of touch" card.

So please feel free fill in some of the others.

And BHO's not only a constant card player, IMO, he deals mostly from the bottom of the deck.

Ok, if these comments are ever actually reviewed, I object to the "moderation" of my comments. I am forced, along with many others, to wade through thoughtless, hateful, derogatory comments all the time in order to learn what more thoughtful people think on a subject. The first post in this thread is labeled "Bill Ayers," clearly impersonating another individual that is strictly against the Terms of Service. Then demwit's comment is just downright dumb. Yet my comment, which plays into the context of Obama's statement to invoke a piece of history long forgotten gets "moderated." What could be the possible reason for this selective censorship?

For those people who are using this as another chance to hate on Obama, get over yourselves. This is an important part of US history, and any president any citizen, regardless of skin color, should have taken the same moment to reflect. Try to think beyond your hate to what we have accomplished as a country towards civil rights. Sounds like some of you need to do some serious reflecting on your own lives for such pettiness.

    April 19, 2012 at 1:44 pm |

I'm so glad he took the time to do this. It's a top priority right now for the American Government. I'm sure as he sat there reflecting on Rosa, he utterly relished himself.

@ Duane... I didn't realize that civil rights was only a race issue. I thought it had to do with equal rights for every citizen in this country, regardless of your race, sexual orientation, gender, financial status, health... I don't see the part of the president's comment that speaks to only race? You seem like a strong critical thinker. Perhaps you could point out what I may have missed.

Wouldn't it be funny that if everything you did every part of your day was chronicled and photographed for the world to see on display at any time how your opinions would change so quickly. To me it is a picture of the POTUS sitting on a buss just reflecting (as if you never reflect on anything). The same as any other POTUS visiting any other museum, had he been visiting the Holocaust Museum would he be playing the Jewish card? or would that be considered a support for the nazi regime? its all an observation perspective. I guess he should just be stuck in the oval office 24/7 to solve all of the worlds problems with out taking anytime for himself. Job crisis sucks only becuase people make it that way, most to lazy to do what is necessary to provide for themselves and familiy, i have personally hired two admin assistants within the past week who were thouroughly overqualified for the posistion making only 10 an hour but they are happy to just be working instead of joining the mass about complaining that there are no jobs and spending more time doing that than actually applying themselves to get out and do anything until they can find a well suited job... If you dont like the current status of POTUS then pretend to make a difference and get out and vote, snide comments will come and go and be forgotten with tomorrows new pics.

I am glad that Mr. Obama had an opportunity to visit the bus that Rosa Park used. How far we have come, and yet how far we have yet to go! America was moving forward in the Civil Rights era. Now we have stagnated, and there are those who want us to return to the bad old days.

First with the negative comments towards the president I think it is unfair for you comment I mean he tries hard to help us but because every move he makes he get shut down by the so called republicans so he has no choice to use the race card because he get shutdown because of the race of his skin.

Rosa Parks was a real American. "My feet hurt and I'm not getting up." And why should an old lady have to get up and move? The most practical thing was obviously to just let people sit where they could. Who really gives a rat's fandango about what color people are? I sat next to a purple guy once, seriously purple. Bald, too, I think he was from the planet Zabnog.

I am glad that Mr. Obama had a chance to visit Rosa Park's bus. It must have been a very moving experience for him. How far we have come, and yet how much more needs to be done. America has always been a work in progress. But recently it has been more a work in reverse. When will we recognize that we need to move forward on all aspects of civil rights in this country?

White privilege is seeing the race card whenever race is mentioned. I expect if we did a better job of giving our privilege back, we might all see things similarly.

How can either of you say that he is playing the race card just by sitting on the bus that Rosa Parks broke the almost two hundred years of treating all races but the whites as not equal.

The Declaration of Independence says all men are created equal.

Even Women were not give the same rights as men and even could not vote until about 1920 or so. Women are still not given the same rights as men and we now more than 236 years old as an independent country!!

Has he even campaigned in Black areas in the United States, last I heard, he was avoiding heavily African American communities – Democrats in the Black Caucus called him out for it.
Now he's basking in this very sad, pitiful photo op. While I'm sure Rosa Parks would be proud to know the US has a first Black Pres', she would feel bad knowing he visited on an opportune visit, with photographers at hand, on an election year.

I bet the people who lost their jobs behind his greed will have a totally different opinion of him. And his wife has never worked for a living is absolutely true! There are millions of women who not only work at home taking care of their kids but they also work outside the home to help feed their kids. Haliburton .. Cheney's involvment... and our jobs were going over sea's even in 2000 so look to the past as well cause we didn't fall into this debt problem over 4yrs it took years of crappy presidents and thier left and ring wing cronies to put us here. A change is needed alright and those in Washington DC think they have the rest of the country hoodwinked, look at what happened to King George when he thought the same thing. I never said Bush was a saint! Still you don't find it odd the the U.S. JOB CZAR is shipping an entire division of GE to China? They will hire 65 CHINESE engineers is and invest $2 BILLION in CHINA! We don't have 65 engineers here? We don't need a $2B investment here? On top of that this is the very same GE that paid ZERO in federal taxes. The SAME GE headed up by the AMERICAN JOB CZAR. That is the context of this argument! I'll bet Ms. Parks is rolling over in her grave at the way obama has racially divided our country

    April 19, 2012 at 2:30 pm |
    • Stephen

No sir. She would not. She already rolled in her grave because a person of color has become the president of these United States. She has rolled several time for other positive events...

Obama racially dividing this country? Obviously you missed the point that BLACK people didn't have the same right to sit in a bus as anyone else...and she fought that.
Blacks couldn't go to the same schools, couldn't eat at the same restaurants, water fountains, restrooms, same HOSPITALS as whites...

Please explain to me in all your wisdom how his racially divisive methods are so much greater than what Rosa Parks experienced that she would roll over in her grave...

I am keen to know... VERY keen.

I have no problem with any qualified person being president. I wish the first AA president had been Colin Powell. Just because someone may disagree with Obama's actions and think he is an absolute FAIL as president does not mean they equate his clueless egotism with his heritage (more of personal traits).

Also, if anyone wants to come back with but he is better than Bush... Being better than Bush is an extremely low bar that I do not think we should be using as a measure of presidential success. My cat wearing a party hat would have been a better president than Bush.

So what if he didnt set in the correct place and if he dnt know who rosa parks is then y would he be there? do you know who she is and what influence she had on america it wasnt about color she stood up for what she believes in jus like every american would. It's sad to see men (most likely white) play off of their own self-regarding sentiments to make it seem like somebody else (President Obama) is doing something wrong. I wonder what they would say if the Pres went to the Ronald Reagan Museum. I'm amazed when White people think just because they opine on issues of race, it's going to be viewed as intelligent – when it's the most poorly thought comments they could make.

I can almost here the hate in the comments (as of 2:11 pm), the only race card I see being played is by the very citizens who can not provide a single fact, for the hate of our President, let me see, employment going up, wars going down, stock markets going up, risk to our pensions going down, any offers or suggestions by Republicans to build upon the good in America, never, not as long as our President is in office, and that promise the Republicans have kept, medical for all, going up, republicans want to take that down of course, I could go on, but how can anyone convince the extreme right wing of anything good, when it was just dandy with them to have one of them call our President a lier on national TV, or to have people showup with loaded weapons at presidential speeches, no one has to convince me, that the color of our President, is the only reason for Tea Party Hate.

Wake up!!!!! The country has never been over the race issue....why do you think the words "RACIAL TOLLERANCE or RACIAL INCLUSSION" has been used by those in power instead of more unifying ones? Tolerance, are you kidding me? I don’t think of me or my children as people that want to me tolerated, as if we were a bad skin rash! Wake up! Look in the mirror and be truthful to yourselves, racism is alive and this president has been judged solely on that.....

Seems to only be racists on this post. And ignorance, jealousy, fakes, phonies, and band wagon wannabe's. Ending Racism STARTS with the people who live in this country. Whether you like Obama or Romney, bitching about what they've done or not done gets you NO WHERE. If you can do better, go out and do it. Be the President. Or SHUT UP. Seriously, this country is a joke. We pride ourselves on being the "Best". Best at what?? Being backstabbing, murdering, lying, theieves??? WTH. Exciting that the President heard the voice of Rosa Parks playing while he was seated on the bus. The recording is the Pacifica Radio Archives 1956 interview originally broadcast on Pacifica Radio flagship station KPFA in Berkeley California. This is the earliest known recording of Rosa Parks. http://www.pacificaradioarchives.org

This is such garbage. Its been proven that the Rosa Parks bus sitting was completely orchestrated and planned to get media attention and promote the liberal political agendas just like this. Obama is such a tool. I think the fact that Obama is half black is the only thing he has going for him only because the Dept of Education with the help of the Federal Communications Committee and socialist media like CNN have brainwashed two generations of Americans with race propaganda, as if Obama and CNN are riding the wave that Hitler created.

We can't change the past nor should we forget but try to make it better. What i can't understand is that most of you call yourselfs christians. how can you lie like that. Now a true christian is not going to vote for a Morman due to our christian beliefs, not because of party,or race, but you so called christians will vote against your beleifs because the president is BLACK. April 19, 2012 at 4:00 pm |
    • CommonSense

First of all, the country has changed dramatically and irreversibly in its attitudes toward "race". It's possible that many folks simply don't remember how it used to be. Today's US and the US of Rosa Parks' era are vastly different.

Secondly, people will never truely solve the "race issue" until we all understand that there is really no such thing as "race" itself. It is an invalid theory based upon appearances and the myths surrounding those appearances. There is no such thing as a "black" person, a "white" person, a "yellow" person, etc., etc. We are all of one race and the differences we see are based upon physical appearance, not some fundemental difference between people. Tall people, short people, blue-eyed folks, etc. are not different races, and neither are people with different skin tones. Once we all accept and understand that truth, the myth of race will disappear and we will all move forward. As usual, education is the solution.

I think it's great that he visited the museum and sat on the Rosa Park's bus. Obama showed just how much he honors and respects American history and what people have fought and died for which is "freedom and having an equal shot at achieving the American dream." I plan on voting for Obama in November. I don't think Romney even understands the plight of the low-income, working class or the poor. And even if he does sympathize with the poor; Romney has already stated that he has no intention of focusing on the poor.

However, I am not his target audience for this but if I was I would ask what has Obama done that has made life better for the AA community other than just being 1/2 African and being a symbol. I've read all these comments and have to say that it saddens me that there is this much hatred and ignorance still in our country. Most of these comments are full of racism and anger. Anger towards Obama for being BLACK. The very idea that Obama has racially divided our country is hilarious, since AMERICA has always been racially divided. So none of the other Presidents who were White males, divided our country based on race? GET A CLUE. I'm happy that President Obama has enough respect and knowledge of his heritage to honor and reflect on the trials and tribulations our ancestors had to endure in order for all people to achieve some form of equality.

It's so easy to blame Obama and his Administration for the state our country is in, yet where were all these criticisms when Bush was allowing Wall Street to do whatever they wanted, or letting the Millionaires pay lower taxes then the middle and lower class. Rosa Parks as well as many other civil rights activists would be proud of him. He has done more than most of you will ever give him credit for.

The idea that BLACK PEOPLE don't do their fair share is ridiculous. The last time I checked the welfare system was DIVERSE. It's Obama's job to lead our country the best way he see fit and to do the best for his country. Those who chose to use Obama as a mentor have the responsibility to take his image and mold their lives after it or use it as a guide to better them. President Obama does not represent just BLACK AMERICA...he represents THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

When you look back on this great country and see the horrendous things which whites have done to this country it is amusing to read the racist comments about how Obama has destroyed this country. What a JOKE! To actually believe that crazy Mitt and his dense wife and arrogant spoiled boys can do anything for this country other than walk around like being president is another one of their trophies. This is an election year and Obama is pulling out all the stops to get back in office. He is also doing as many photo ops as possible I think for his future library. Obama is 1/2 white and 1/2 African heritage. In terms of African American heritage (as descended from slaves), he has no connection with that past unless some of his ancestors sold slaves. Personally, if they wanted to use this as an opportunity to bolster his election I would have preferred to see this photo with Michelle (celebrating her history and past)... maybe with their children as a learning experience.

Basically this is just a posed shot to drum up votes and to hang in his library. (I know I am repeating myself but the man seems to have no shame).

      • Lib

@sunlight, your commentary is a prime example of how warped your opionion is of African Americans. I am also multiraced but I celebrate my Black heritage since it is a phenomenal heritage. Whites can say what they want about Blacks but we are basically a strong people and continue to endure the hostility and hate from whites. You criticize the president for taking that moment in time.for you, it has no meaning. But for us, especially with the Trayvon trial, the trial of the innocent Black man who was beat by white boys and run over and many other of these incidents these moments mean a lot to Blacks. Whites will never understand Blacks. President Obama has endured major racial hate while in office more than any other president. I mean racial hate (ted Nugent hate) which is condoned by the GOPs and Mitt Romney. I would imagine that Michelle and the kids were not on this trip with him. President Obama is not a Pretenious man. President Obama is one of the first Humane presidents this country has ever had. He is not only helping poor Blacks but poor people of ALL colors. Let me ask you something, when has Mitt taken photos with people of color????

        April 19, 2012 at 3:53 pm |
      • Joi Gibson

He visited the museum. Why would he not sit in that bus – I know I would have. It's history. Why must this particular photo be about getting back into office. What you say makes no sense. ALL presidents pull out the stops to get re-elected. It's what they do here in the good ole U.S. of A. The President is more African-American than some folks of color as his father is actually African and his mother is American, hence African-American. Quite frankly, I have never understood why and when that particular moniker became the norm in reference to black folks. We are all Americans, simply of different shades.

Your prespective is so utter flawed in that one doesn't have to be an African-American to have suffered the experience of European imperialism. As a matter of fact, statistically speaking more African slaves were shipped to South and Central American countries than were shipped to North America. Your perspective gives the impression that slavery not "was" but "IS" a uniquely American experience is historically flawed.

However, I do agree with you that psychologically, it appears Obama has no connection to the African-American community. Aside from his wife, he refuses to associate or align himself with any interests or concerns specific to the African-American community.

I agree with Joi, I don't use the African American moniker nor do I encourage my children to. It is not fair. But no one says hey Obama, why are you doing special favors or the Jewish community in vetoeing the UN measure to vote on a Palestinian state. What about the bankers? Save that noise about him being the President of all Americans. ALL Presidents have supported the interest of certain constituent groups over others (e.g. Bankers over US homeowners). Just because he's black he must address issues specific to the black community? If he did that, folks would be howling at the moon – he only cares about black people and accusing him of racial warfare, which he gets thrown at him anyway. This president has to walk a fine line the likes of which no other president has had to when it comes to race. That is like saying Willard should address issues specific to the Mormon community. However, I seriously doubt Willard will do anything to specifically address the black community, or the Latino community, or the gay community, or any other community that is not rich and white.

Lib, I am a 42 yr. old African (African-American) male. You are either so utter uninformed or outright foolish. I am going to bet both. Neither Mitt nor Obama is going to save anyone other than the corporate elite which in Obama's case has already been proven. To demonstrate how uninformed you are I need to ask you a few questions on Obama's position.
      1) What was his position on the twice popularly elected Jean-Bertrand Aristid's return to Haita?
      2) What is Obama's position on Black male incarceration which is the highest it's been in US history since the emancipation proclamation?
      3) What is Obama's position on "Due Process" and militarism as it relates to Libya, Afghanistan, and Iran?
      4) Why does Obama support that Isreali apartheid state in Palestine?
      4) Why has Obama not only failed to reverse the Bush administrations attack on civil liberties but has seen it necessary to support laws of his own that totally erode Due Process in the US and ignore the Geneva convention around the world (National Defense Act of 2012)?

It's foolish, I again say FOOLIISH that you expect no special favors from Obama. When Obama vetoed the UN measure to vote for the recognition of a Palestinian state, he did so because a certain political interest group made it clearly understood to him that they EXPECTED him to go to the UN and support their (Isreali) interest. They will not give him license to be ineffective they way African-Americans such as yourself have. Obama is supremely effective is supporting EVERYONE's interest EXPECT the black community because you are too foolish to hold him accountable. You say Obama here's my vote... and you don't eve need to do anything to earn it. So utterly naive and foolish of you. You expect nothing and are to blind to recognize that as a result you've received nothing.

Travis your problem as a Black person is believing like most people that President Obama is the "Messiah" President Obama can not change Congress nor can he do everything that people desire of him from all cultures. What are you doing??? You have so many complaints, what are you doing about all or some of these causes? You go right on Travis and vote for Mitt and let's see how far he gets on these issues you speak on. I am smart enough to know that NO president has ever done one third of what he campaigned to do simply because most things are already written in stone. It's like starting a new job with great hopes only to find out the first day, your hopes won't work.

You mention race – racist.. My opinions of Obama have nothing to do with his race. He was unqualified for the job but I had hopes that he could heal the country... sort of like the Nobel Peace Prize he has yet to earn. We have had American presidents in the past who stepped out of nowhere and rose to meet American's challenge and risen to greatness (A. Lincoln come to mind). I had hoped for that for Obama.

He had 4 years to make positive changes. Personally, I am at a loss. I am an independent voter that wanted Hillary to challenge him for the Democratic vote. Do I want a Mitt for President – No. Do I want four more years of Obama – absolutely not. I hope that by 2016 we can harness the internet to actually get a write in candidate to win. I am tired of no choices on either side. Why am i posting because I see this as trying to drum up votes not with actions and deeds but by tugging at heart strings for a cause I really do not think he personally gives a darn about except when he can drag it out to benefit him.

Not to forget G. Washington, or FDR but Lincoln went from a log cabin and many failures to become in my mind one of the greatest presidents we have ever had.

Obama on the other hand I feel is worse than Bush in some ways. I did not like Bush and had no expectations from him. There was very little that Bush could do to make me think less of him (especially after the election issues with Gore). However, I did have high hopes for Obama and that is what I think makes it worse.

I like fairy tales to but even a high school graduate can see what is happening in this country today is just the after shocks of one of the biggest earthquakes we have ever had. Do you actually believe ANYONE would have done better? I believe that president Obama SAVED this country. It is up to ALL of us to help. THe GOP has done nothing! But then again, it is your right to express your feelings.

They are even upset when the president of the United States show respect and reflection to a black American who have done so much to change this country racist past. When I read all this hate. I realized that this country has a long way to go on race relation. I respect this president and will vote for him again because the republican party is made up of racist white men who would love to bring black people back to JIM CROW and SEGREGATION.

A lot of ignorance by a lot of twits. This is the country's first African American President, and some of you are assuming he is doing this as a ploy to garner attention and more votes for November?

LOL! Our high schools are failing a lot of these kids with regards to comprehending History - and not just remembering it - if that is the case. I bet some of you cannot even comprehend how symbolic His American Dream is for not only African Americans but for the long and hard fought battle to overcome slavery, discrimination, segregation, etc. Get real! The first African American President is sitting on the same bus one woman refused to give her seat up on, and you people are calling this a campaign ploy to garner votes.

...As if he really needs them. Have you people woken up just today or have you paid attention to who his opponent is likely to be? LOL! His second term couldn't seem any more likely as the days to Election Day wind down.

If he gave a damn about civil rights he would have refused to sign NDAA and the Anti Protest Bill, he would have intervened before 6877 Occupiers have been abused and arrested. Rosa Parks was the very first Occupier, he would of had her pepper sprayed and arrested.

Obama wants us to return to this past. Only this time it wont be skin color that forces you to the back of the bus, but ideology.

Obama was said it, and you can't find a Democrat to disagree, hey buddy can't show me your registered Democrat card like the one that George Zimmerman has, get in the back of the bus, the front is only for those who support the National Socialist ideology of the Democrat party.

All you have to do is objectively listen to Democrats from Obama to Shultz, then read the comments from their mindless Moore-on bots, their dream is to round up every Conservative in this country and march them into gas chambers. Just listen, every Democrat has a hate of their fellow Americans who don't agree with their ideology that is only equalled by other National Socialists. Anita Dunn who was part of the Obama administration admitted her love for Mao, a man who killed 30 million. This is because Democrats want to do the same thing to their fellow American Republicans. It will remain a dream though, the military is mostly Republican which expalins why the first thing Obama wanted when he became president was his own private army. Sorry, no president with good in his heart who loves all would ask for that, Obama is by far the most hateful, divisive, partisan, extremist to every occupy the office of President.

  125. My 2 cents

I am so sad for all who think a president any president can accomplish anything alone. The congress must pass the laws and then and only then does the president sign them into law. As we all know the congress does nothing but divide the country. As for our President "playing the race card" I think he is just taking in all the facts about how our country has changed and how long and hard it was for us to do the right thing. You are the ones turning it into a "race card" I am white and 60 years old and I was taught by my parents that the only people anyone should be "prejudice" against is someone that does not work for what they have. That means anyone who steals or lives on welfare with no desire or action to get themselves off and present a good example to their children. (of course this does not include the disabled or elderly) I think all you haters out there should take a good look at yourselves and think about what you will say to the ONE ALMIGHTY GOD when you arrive at judgment day. I know I will stand tall and I hope you can too.

Obama has passed many laws, you should check them out, just a couple, NDAA which allows for indefinite detention of American Citizens, no more habius corpus if they consider you a terrorist, and oh how about the Anti-Protest Bill, that one passed with flying colors...which is what Rosa Parks was doing that day, she was Occupying that seat in PROTEST, Obama would have her locked up, labeled a terrorist and we would have never heard the story because the main stream media is owned by people who keep the truth from you. Obama works VERY well with the Republican Congress at passing the laws that matter to them, than squabble over the laws that matter to us.

Sarah Palin is the only one who can heal and re-unify our country. But in order to do so, she must return to her motorhome and resume her cross country tour. She will have to visit cities both large and small, speaking only to "real Americans", dispensing her sage advice and folksy, homespun common sense solutions. We can be a great nation again but we must all follow the "Palin Path". In the days , weeks, and months to come, I will elaborate on the "Palin Path" so that everyone has a clear understanding of Sarah Palin's vision for our country.

A comment from John mCconnel from his first day in office to promise to make this Black president a ONE TERM president without even knowing what his policies would be. People we are not condemning Obama for being Black when actually he is mulatto half Black half White. We are condemning him because he lacks experience in democracy but he excels in communism. Has he been part of racism growing up in Kenya, or wherever it was. All that Martin Luther King, Jr. brought to this country, Obama is removing. He was so quick to condemn President Bush while Obama was in Congress. Now that he is doing much of the same thing, he feels it is permissible. Excuse me all people he is deceiving all people of different color and class. What are many of the obama backers going to do when we have no freedoms left. MANY OF US DO NOT LOOK AT HIS SKIN COLOR, IT IS HE WHO IS MAKING IT AN ISSUE. People who voted for Obama then should classify themselves as racist when they voted for him because he was "black" and not because of his experience.
