Obama campaign reacts to Clinton on CNN

The Obama re-election campaign is glossing over the off message positive comments former President Clinton made about presumptive Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, during an interview on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight Thursday.

They are instead focusing on one line where Clinton described the tactics some private equity investors use.

"Invest in a company, run up the debt & force people to lose their retirement and fire them," a senior campaign official pointed out in paraphrase.

However, Clinton was making a comparison of two kinds of investors. Those who buy, strip and destroy companies for profit, and others also driven by profit, but with the goal of making the companies better, even though they too can fail with equal consequences.

In the interview the former president said Romney's time at Bain Capital formed a "good business career," and he referred to that career as "sterling."

Asked by CNN to comment on a message that runs counter to the campaigns attack on Romney's record, the official insisted the key point was Romney was "good at making money for himself and his partners."

Don't insult community workers. This country is made of hundreds of thousands of communities. Those who work for these communities are doing a yeomen's service in keeping our country vibrant and healthy. It should be a matter of great pride for anyone to be a community woorker and organizer. These people do the job governments cannot or don't want to do. So, hats off to nal those who serve their communities. Hats off to Obama!

He was a community organizer in one of the largest cities in the country. With a job like that it is very likely that he worked harder for the people of Chicago than Mitt Romney did for Bain Capital..

Would love to see them "Move On" and Move out! Enough damage has been done to the country and it's economy. Would love to see all 32 of Obama's Czars and their staffs be eliminated too. He has added so much staffing to the government, and too many regulations on business, to have a recovery for this country. We need to be saved!

More corrupt than Bush/Cheney bombing a country that didn't have WMD's? More corrupt than Reagan's "Arms for contras?" More corrupt than the housing crisis of 2008? You have to be kidding me. You can't get more corrupt than Bush/Cheney. You can't get more corrupt than a republican. The republicans talk family values all the time, yet each time a republican politician is involved in a sex scandal, it turns out to be a gay scandal, be it in a mens room at an airport, or at the Page boy apartments in Washington, DC. You can't preach one thing for the people and not abide by it yourself. The republican follows are so brainwashed, it's ridiculous. Everytime the church speaks up they listen, no matter what how nasty the latest scandal was in their own church. Now they think Mitten's is their savior, a guy that follows the teachings of John Smith... an adulterer that got his vision after being intoxicated and talking into his hat with two stones inside it. How smart can he really be? Maybe mittens has a hat of equal power. Cheeses Christ!

@ Jay Dee. LOL get your facts straight before you try to pass yourself off as educated. It's Joseph Smith not John Smith. IF you CAN'T get the name right then how would you even know anything about it? Just saying. Why should I care how Romney spends his money, I am more concerned about how Obama spends MY money.

Read the definition of WMD, and not just think you know what it means, or you might want to tell the hundred thousands of Kurds who been killed, that it is all just their imagination.

The rest of your post is dubious due to the fact that you can't even get your facts straight on who was the first leader of the Mormon faith. It was Joseph Smith and the reference to being intoxicated and speaking into hat is a fabricated story of his life by his enemies. Get real facts and data next time. It's as easy as typing Mormon.org or lds.org.

You might want to take a look into Romney's term as Governor and then Bush's term as President with respect to investments into company's (Romney) and Bush's hand in Fast n furious, and a whole host of things his administration did that happened to be corrupt. But, from what I have seen over the past 12 -20 years, Republicans want to prosecute democrats for everything, including BJ's, and stand by and defend any deplorable corrupt behaviour of a republican. Which is why conservative and republican are synonomous with hypocrisy.

      June 3, 2012 at 11:24 am |

Clinton's tempered remarks sound palatble to Romney such that Romney is touting that "faint praise". The impact of Clinton's remarks however is to refocus attention on Romney's activities at Bain Capital. Obama doesn't have to raise the issue as Romney is now talking about it. The Democrats are simply giving Romney lots of rope to hang himself.

The repubs kept things afloat until they got out of office and then the bottom fell out because of all their policies. It isn't caused by what Obama has don. If he had any help in the house things could of been different.

You can look at everything two ways. Put on dark glasses and the world looks dark. Put on rose colored glasses and the world smells like roses. Obama is an honest, sincere, hard working President. He cares for the common man. Republicans have been after his blood from day one. They followed a policy of standing on the sidelines. Their only aim has been to 'Defeat Obama', not to do anything for the country. Anyone else in his place wouyld have meant this country would have gone to the dogs long time back.

I don't know any man or woman who gets into business to create job. All get into business because they want to make money Ted Turner started CNN because he wanted to make money. By making money they create jobs. I don't know why Obama complains about making money. You have to make money before creating jobs.

    June 1, 2012 at 7:15 pm |
    • Rae

Let's face it, we ALL need money to survive. Some people get into business because they have a passion, others because they don't want to have a boss telling them what to do, and yes the goal for all is to make a living. And some, like Romney, did it to make a boat load of money. Why didn't Bain Capital invest in company's with new technology that would really help America if he is such a great Patriotic american and business man? Because he wasn't interested in growing America and business that would create jobs, he was in the business of creating wealth for his friends and investors. They had no product to sell, they wanted to make money and if peoples jobs and livlihoods got in the way well hey life's not fair. I do not trust Romney for a minute will be concerned about this country and most of the people who live here. He will create policies that will benefit the few. I simply do not trust this man.

Clinton knows exactly what he is saying the media took it and ran he has a strategy and will use it later. Don;t you for one minute think that he is helping Romney. You will hear more about it on the campaign trail it is still early and he is sitting back laughing he put enough out there to make the GOP gloat.

The Clintons love the Democratic Party and there is no way that they will help the Republicans win keep watching/

    June 1, 2012 at 9:48 pm |

But keep in mind that the best thing that can happen for the Clintons is for Obama to loose this election. That would pave the way for a 2016 run for Hillary. If Obama wins this election, Hillary will not have a chance in 2016. Bill isn't stupid, he has measured every word and phrase he speaks publicly.

Totally Agree!! Bush put us in the worst recession in our lifetime, and all the Republicans want to do is ensure the failure of the United States President? They are nothing but a bunch of grown up men (and a few woman) acting like kindergarten bully's who won't share the sand box unless you play by their rules (= every game we play I win and you lose). These people never grew up, no wonder wRongmey is their guy.

      June 3, 2012 at 11:40 am |
      • C-Dub

Hey Rae Bush actually put us in a great depression the only reason this recession doesn't seem as worse is because of unemployment benefits and the other benefits like medical and welfare, if these things did not exist many more people would be homeless and broke on the streets. But you know the Repubs and tea baggers wouldn't care if that happen to the American citizen so long as its not their families. I grew up with the thought that paying taxes was a part of keeping are country safe, beautiful and free I love this country I'am a true Patriot I don't mine paying my fair share of taxes even though I'am not rich. So tell me why if the Republicans, Tea Baggers and the 1% are suppose to be so Patriotic, how come they figure they are not suppose to pay their fair share of taxes. To have a great country we all need to pay are fair share, rich or poor. It shouldn't be the excuse that we create jobs is what they are using as an excuse not to pay. The way I see it is I don't know anyone who got rich without someone poor or poorer buying their product or service. So in essence we all share in the success of others and everyone should pay to keep this country going strong. Of we stay on the path the conserves want i think this country will implode, self destruct we want have to worry about

outsiders are problems will be internal and external, PS don't vote conservative, keep hope alive.

To Tony T .. you don't understand about the "30" Job Bills passed out of the House by the Republicans. Don't you remember when several of them said, and are still saying, "Our only objective is to see that President Obama is a
one term president. Yes, they've been pushing through Bills, but every one of them is laced with the intention of taking away our Social Security .. our Medicare and Medicade. Every one of them .. and if even one of the Bills passed through the Senate .. then you would see a whole lot of retired people turning to their kids for shelter. I don't know how old you are, but I do know that you will appreciate Medicare and Social Security when you retire. After all, you paid into Social Security for years .. and you will pay for Medicare. They are not hand outs for the Republicans to get their greedy hands on!

I don’t know what age you are... but I will never get a penny from the Social Security. I will have to look out for myself despite having paid in just like everyone else. I think it’s high time that we look to our own futures instead of having a mandatory retirement fund that gains no interest and has little hopes of staying in the black in the next ten years.
