Troops to become U.S. citizens at Independence Day WH naturalization ceremony WHITE HOUSE (CNN)-More than two dozen active duty service members will celebrate their Fourth of July with a very patriotic event. Twenty-five members of the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force will be sworn in as citizens in the East Room of the White House. President Obama will make remarks and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano will deliver the oath of allegiance. The group of candidates for citizenship are from seventeen different countries and include a marine who has been awarded the Purple Heart and several winners of the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Other members of the president's cabinet and senior White House officials will also participate in similar ceremonies around the nation. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis will participate in a ceremony in New York and SBA Administrator Karen Mills will be in Massachusetts. This is the third naturalization ceremony at the White House during the Obama administration, although none have been on Independence Day. Vice President Biden participated in a ceremony at Camp Victory with members of the military during a trip to Baghdad on July 4, 2009. |

Randy... You are a fool. I don't know any Dem or Rep that is opposed to legal immigration. It has been and will always be about illegal immigration. In order for a non-citizen to enlist in the military, he/she must first be a legal immigrant with a green card. They must have an established address in the United States in order to apply for enlistment. So, hats off to these men and women for coming to America legally and volunteering to serve. Unlike the coward that you are.
Proof once again that our strength as a nation comes from the sacrifices of immigrants.
Thank you for fighting for the USA. You deserve to be USA citizens. I can't wait to hear what the haters and teapublicans have to say about this good news story. All Republicans are not racists but all racists are Republicans.

Of course these new citizens are welcome, they followed the correct path to citizenship. Unfortunately Obama's agenda is one that wants to naturalize illegal aliens. People who started of by committing a crime and that have no intention of integrating in society. So sad for real immigrants.

I posted on another article thinking that I was posting here, on this story of the troops who served our country the hard way to become citizens.
Thank you for protecting our country and it's citizens with your service. I know there were some that did not make this ceremony because they were killed before they could join you here, with honor and in good standing. God Bless and Keep You. May you have a happy life, you deserve it.
As a vet myself, I know these new citizens have proven themselves worthy! They first believed they owed a debt rather than thinking somebody owed them! They thought to give America a hand up rather than walking around looking for a hand out! They believed more in the value of American citizenship than some othr American citizens do! Congratulations and WELCOME HOME!
