Obama rebuts Romney ad with new ad

(CNN) – President Barack Obama's re-election campaign countered Mitt Romney's controversial television ad about welfare with the release of its own commercial on Friday.

The new Obama ad, "Blatant," points to news media reports that debunk Romney's welfare-based attacks, labeling them inaccurate or "blatantly false."

heres proof cnn is for demoraps and anti repubs this story is everywhere
longtime special agent in the Department of Homeland Security has filed a salacious discrimination lawsuit, saying he was shoved aside in favor of a woman who enjoyed "a long-standing relationship" with DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano - who the suit claims presided over a female "frat-house"-style department that routinely humiliated male staffers.

The lawsuit, filed in May by James T. Hayes Jr., focuses on two Napolitano appointees, Suzanne Barr and Dora Schriro, who joined DHS in February 2009, five months after Hayes was promoted to director of ICE Detention and Removal Operations.

Hayes claims Schriro, who was brought on as a special adviser to Napolitano, was not qualified for the job because she lacked law enforcement experience. Hayes maintained Schriro had a relationship – which was not detailed – with Napolitano and soon began assuming his duties.

Hayes was pushed aside "because of this relationship (with Napolitano) and because he was not female," the suit says.

The lawsuit also alleges that Barr cultivated a "frat-house type atmosphere" at DHS that "is targeted to humiliate and intimidate male employees."

In one instance, the suit alleges, Barr "moved the entire contents of the offices of three male employees" to the men's bathroom. It also claims she repeatedly used "sexually offensive behavior" - like "screaming" about an explicit sexual act at a male employee in his hotel room and "covertly" taking a male agent's Blackberry and sending a message to his female supervisor that he "had a crush" on her and "fantasized about her."

The suit also claims Barr held conference calls to discuss excuses for firing Hayes, after Schriro assumed some of his responsibilities. Hayes was later removed from his Washington ICE job and assigned to the New York office.

After the suit was first reported by blogger Debbie Schlussel, DHS issued a statement knocking down the claims.

"ICE doesn't comment on unfounded claims and will respond to Mr. Hayes' allegations as appropriate through the judicial system," a DHS spokesman said.

Hayes has held a number of high-ranking assignments at DHS, including his current post as special agent in charge of New York City ICE.

The suit says that in late 2009, DHS launched or re-opened at least six different misconduct probes against him. Those probes were concluded with a finding they were "without merit," the suit said.

"On information and belief, these investigations were initiated by the agency in order to intimidate the plaintiff," the suit said.

Hayes is seeking more than $330,000 in damages.

Schriro has since left DHS and now serves as commissioner for the New York City Department of Correction. Before joining DHS, she led Arizona's Department of Corrections.

Barr is still Napolitano's chief of staff for ICE.

If obama is so far ahead of Romney, then why is he running such a desperate advertising campaign, remenicent of a candidate who is running scared? ... Probably because Obama knows that once Romney is allowed to spend his post convention campaign funds, Obama can loose it all. Obama is arrogant and pompous, when Romney's hands are tied behind his back ... and, when Obama believes he has the advantage in campaign funds. Obama's disgusting false accusations directed towards Romney, makes it obvious that obama will stoop to any depth, to hold onto his power. Good bye, and good riddance Mr. Obama !!!

My mind is made up and there is nothing the Rep Party can do or say that will change it.

Romney is not for the USA. He has to much baggage. The people he has to pay back will destroy this country.

We should not let him or the rest of the Rep Party any where near the WH or the US Treasury ever again. They can all go visit their ill gotten gains in their off shore accounts and leave us to clean up the mess they have made for us.

Off shore accounts are not a tax haven. US citizens still have to pay taxes on all income. If you have an IRA, stock in an oil company, stock in Coca Cola, Walmart, your money is, in part, in an off shore account. Grow up, learn about the modern financial world.

From "Rules for Radicals", Page 10: "A Marxist begins with his prime truth that all evils are caused by the exploitation of the proletariat by the capitalists. From this he logically proceeds to the revolution to end capitalism, then into the third stage of reorganization into a new social order of the dictatorship of the proletariat, and finally the last stage - the political paradise of communism."

I don't believe in tit for tat, but the ads that Romney is putting out (by and large) need to be refuted. This goes for any ads Obama puts out that are not true, but so far, the scales tip in Romney's favor as to being false, untrue, biased, and just plain lies. But, as a resident of MA, I can tell you that is Romney's m.o. – throw whatever garbage you can and see what sticks to the wall, true or not. Not the kind of character we seek in a President.

Obama promised to close Gitmo by moving the prisoners to America, it was blocked in Congress by Republicans saying it would endanger Americans and by the military saying it was a valuable interrogation facility – Not his fault
Obama promised to bring America together, so did Bush and how did that work out? When a political party's platform becomes we want to obstruct the President so he doesn't get anything accomplished and then defeat him in the next election (Republican Sen Minority Leader) how can the President bring them into the fold?
Obama did promise that if you like your current health care plan you can keep it. His law does nothing revoking your plan. It's up to your insurance company to keep your plan the same, not President Obama. The ACA does more to curb insurance companies from making costly and harmful changes to your policy than any legislation in history. Find out what the law is for yourself rather than listening to Sarah Palin's death panel tweets.
Obama warned that we need to act now to stop climate change or else we will see ocean levels rise. Of course Republicans responded by chanting drill baby drill and protecting tax breaks for oil companies.

If you continue to take everything on Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck's shows as gospel you'll continue to look like the sucker Frank.

If you buy that line, especially after the dems worked on nothing but Obamacare for the first two years and GOT IT THROUGH – you are a fool.
The dems know they wanted to pass Obamacare. After that they were clueless at what this country needed. This country does not need more tax and spend, like the billions we just got hit with in taxes with Obamacare. Obstruction had/has nothing to do with it. They are clueless.

Hey John, did you notice none of them would even admit the possibility that Obama could ever make a mistake? To them he's not even a man, he's a divine being incapable of error. Even when confronted with Obama's own words they alter reality in their own minds to justify their continued adoration. I know why Axelrod, Gibbs, Carney and the others defend Obama, he pays them but there's no reason why Dave and the others have to do it. I guess because if they admit that Obama has made mistakes then it reflects on them. There's no way I'd defend any politician like that.

so there are 435 members of the house and 100 Senators for a total of 535 elected member of congress. Of those there are 191 democrats in the house and 57 in the Senate, 240 + 40 repblicans in the house and senate. There are 2 indepents in the senate and pme vacancy.. and in the house there are no independents and 3 vacancies. The Democrats control he White house and the Senate, and the republicans control the house... SO the question is this... given the party line attitudes in our federal government who will win... Short answer .. no one... and with the people of America as ignorant and as party line as you are .... who will win>>> Same answer.. The first two years brought us closer to healthcare. Congress still has to work together to accomplish anything. Even with a minority party in Congress they managed to gut some of the best things about healthcare. Obstruction will be your destruction when you take away the things the majority of citizens want. We made it clear when Obama was running against Hillary Clinton that's why he wanted to do that first. We remember how Republicans voted then and vote now. And, your candidate doesn't want to take a bow for creating a structure that he said at one time was the framework for the nation.

How can you create jobs in America when you send your investment profits overseas, the resson for having tax cut was to create jobs in USA, instad the republican candidate Rumney was investing it all over the world.and now he wants to lower his tax to invest somewhere, probably to have unemployment down to 4% in china or mexico.
The worst is that that rich man vows to take away health insurance from the poor while he is geting millions tax cut

OH YEAH – his knees are shaking and now he is gonna be even more closed-mouthed. But, just 'cause you took the hard drives from the computers when you left the Mass.Governor's office AND from your time at the Olympics doesn't mean people haven't keep track of what you've said and done and have kept it on record.
I believe Harry Reid has a convention surprise for Romney. I can't wait!

Don't you understand that if Mitt stepped wrong with a tax return the IRS would have been all over this...do you know obama appointed the director of the IRS... the ignorance from left wingers like you is amazing.

the repos have to talk to each other on this post because none of them can come up with any answers to why mitt the twitt won't show us his tax returns or why his money is in the caymens and not in the USA or if he wrote his horse off as a medical expense. Mitt looks like he has something up his ass when he walks. Check it out, probably his head. Now that people are getting to know him they don't like him . Lying little rich twerp. Mitt has show his tax returns not you libs want more tax returns. So you outright lie (when you say he hasn't show his tax returns). Mitt announced he would release another year if Obama releases all of his school records and his long for BC. I assume Obama, and people like you, will let this issue die now.
It took Obama 3 years into his presidency to release his BC. But for some reason you libs didn't have a problem with that.
Ryan was just announced as VP – he is another good guy. Do you have any good people in your family? Romney and Ryan are good people who you, and losers like you try to make look bad. How would you feel if people did the same thing to your family members?
Obama hires tax cheats and is worried about Romney releasing more tax information? I do not think so. He put this issue out there to get votes from idiots like you "blind followers".

dont be a bit surprised if Mitt challenges obama in the first debate...'I'll show my returns, if you show the world your passport records, academic records, medical records, and real birth certificate.' I see a lot of people posting here asking why Romney has overseas accounts. Why Romney won't release his tax records.

It is not required by law or any other reason to keep your money in a bank located in the United States. Nor is required to release tax records if you run for public office.

You and I are allowed to put money in an off shore account. You and I are allowed to keep our tax records private. Why isn't he allowed?

We should be asking why people keep money off shore. The answer is simple, our tax system encourages it.
We should be asking we keep tax records private. The answer is simple, it's none of your business.

If you think the same tax loop holes the GOP and DEMS use to hide money and keep from paying taxes are only for those people that became Successful, you are wrong. The tax code and all parts of it can be used by all. Don't hate because you're not wealthly enough to take advantage of them. This includes putting YOUR money someplace a little bit safer and more secure where you'll earn more than if it were kept here in the U.S.

Just ask yourself this, if you had enough money to take advantage of our tax code and you would get to keep more of what you earn, would you?

I would and work every day to make that dream reality. I don't mind paying taxes, I mind people that tell me I need to more so they can pay less. I mind people telling they to see my finances just so they can hate more.

I know, we should have everyone who is well off wear a yellow dollar sign on their chest so we can identify them.

DUH... Seriously... think about it ... are you saying that the IRS is turning a blind ee to rich peoples wealth??? That they are not aware of what is going on? There is always a trail... ALWAYS.... Do you think that a person running for the highest office in the country would not be scrutinized by the IRS before it ever got to this level? Are you that desperate?

        August 11, 2012 at 5:06 pm |
      • Cynthia L

Sorry Billy, your candidate IS desperate and getting more so by the day.. The IRS already snagged MARRIOTT when Romney was Chairman of the Board's Audit Committee where Romney had a hand in approving the firms reporting of FICTIONAL TAX LOSSES EXCEEDING $70 MILLION TO THE IRS. THE IRS caught the fraudulent claim and fined Marriott 100s of millions of dollars.
THEN, there is Romney's used of a MAFIA-STYLE-TAX STRUCTURE called out by John McCain as "corrupt".
Add that up with tax avoiding offshore bank accounts. This guy is the gift that keeps on giving AND THEN PICKS A WEINER-HEAD for a V.P.

The major provision of the welfare reform act signed by Clinton was that it did not give the states any option to the work requiremnt.

Obama is removing that requirement which basically kills the intent of the law. The news media fact checkers who say the Romney add is not factual need to check their own facts.

@ Lizzie – Not sure who you are talking to but I'll assume it is to me. First off, I apologized to the people who are fair-minded, responsible and who mind their manners. Second, I personally DO NOT go after anybody's children, I have gone after the fact the Romney Family used Ann's horse as a $77,000 TAX -DEDUCTION and taken issue with her comment, "YOU PEOPLE".
Throw out all the ideas you want. Some are good and some not so much, but if that is your way of trying to contribute to a problem this nation has, I welcome it. Just don't say that we aren't listening when we throw out our own. Just maybe we can come to a solution that works for the majority of regular citizens.

HA! You have to admit there are plenty of people who have presented their opionions with good manners. I was talking to those and even though I may not agree, they were still respectful and those were the people I was speaking to. However, when you just say that Obama is ruining the country after what he was left to deal with I think it's unfair. If Mitt, had even come from a place that had done that, after Obama gave his healthcare praises instead of taking another route maybe people could be open to him as a leader. Same with any idea. It takes a lot of different ideas coming together. We as a country have the brains-do we have the courage? Nothing as huge as what we went through as a country is going to be fixed easily or overnight.

Then you don't know me at all... I have never called you a democrap, a twinke, of anyother name, except when I was poking at you arlier to try to get you to pay attention to what you were doing. That was aimed directly at you. My manners have been well "minded" which is more than I can say for you.

I will state this yet again ... as I have forthe last three years... I believe that the president of the united states is a loving father andhusband and a man hat truly wants to help... His policies from economic to leadership are not succeedind. The blogs here on CNN are a prime example of the division he has escalated. His comments about the cambridge police come to mind as an example.

I am for the Reform of the Tax Code. We are supposed to be EQUAL UNDER THE LAW. If the Tax Code allows only some to be able to take loopholes that are not offered to the rest of us – it is unfair.
If the Tax Code allows the very wealthy to fore-go their responsiblities to this country – it is unfair.
You all thump your chests about cuts to Defense – screaming that our Navy must police International waters that you move your goods to and fro on, that our sailors are risking their lives to do everyday. That the oil you insist must be found, drilled, refined, moved all around the world AND SEVEN of the 10 MOST WEALTHY COMPANIES ON THE PLANET -THE OIL COMPANIES- BLACKMAIL U.S. TAXPAYERS TO PAY THEM SUBSIDES that the Republicans recently voted to continue the practice of. Screaming that Obama is taking YOUR MONEY.

Probably the best thing Mitt ever did in his life for his country, was to give us a structure for HEALTHCARE. Something for us. Something he could be proud of. Something he should be proud of. But no, he wants to be rich and he wants to be president so he can keep himself that way. He made that choice and I make the choice to oppose him for it.
For a long time I just read the CNN blog without speaking up. I could not let you people lie, degrade and destroy our country because you have the free speech to do so. YOU can dish it out and call names, make-up stuff that isn't going to happen BUT I HAVE SKIN IN THIS GAME TOO. If I have to put up with YOU – YOU have to put up with me.
I am a woman who was surrounded by brothers and I have sons. I apologize to those of you who are fair-minded, responsibile and mind your manners. I try to be honest and I know that sometimes my remarks are course, but, I do feel this nation is in need of more people who speak up for the greatness we have within us.

YOU ARE INTERESTD? Well Well Well... I have even mentioned this myself on many ocasions. I wonder why you are listening now? Think of it... everyone pays taxes... the end of Keynesian economics... FDR used it and so has every president since... FDR was the first to figure out that you could buy votes with it.... Waht a refreshing thought that everyone pays say 10% of thei income... even corporations.... bet we would have a budget surplus..... Try selling that one to the Democratic party.

        August 12, 2012 at 3:43 pm |
      • Cynthia L

You still have to say how it would work for the majority of the citizens of this country. How do those numbers that you choose work. In what way would it lead to a budget surplus. You have said many things but not how they would work, which is the conversation I am willing to have. If you want to sell the idea, it has to have the information behind it. Otherwise no one will pay attention to an idea that has no legs OR wings when it is possible it may have. This is a country with a military, the finest universities in the world, a space program, an infastructure challenge (which by the way was Eisenhower's strong point ALONG with the education of our country's children) and many more challenges. Keep thinking, tell us more. Nobody is saying no unless it doesn't add up.

        August 12, 2012 at 11:12 pm |
    • Bill in STL

I think I would like for you to explain what is unfair? If everyone is equal under the law, then why is it unfair for some people to take advantage of what the law provides for? Don't try to tell me that you would not IF you had the funds to do so? You are only upset because you can't do it as well... so you put on your self rightous coat and stamp your feet about howunfair it is... Do you feel like you pay your fair share? did you know that the fair share in England before Margret Thatcher took office was 85% of your wages? IS this what you want? Now you want the rich to pay more because you feel cheated by them... How is that equal under the law? Whos is going to decide what is equal under the law? You? And when that is no longer enough to cover the tab where will you go for money then? Perhaps we can adopt a British model, a few years back a poposal was made that your wages would be sent to the government first and then the government would distribute to you what was left... Does that sound viable to you?

More and more people are so jealous of the European countries .... they are socialist governments, not communist, but socialist. After having spent time in Europe, frankly I don't want that life style... you could not understand unless you have been there and not in the big cities of London, Paris, Rome, or Madrid.

      August 12, 2012 at 10:59 pm |
      • Cynthia L

I pay attention to my own country more than Europe, but if you don't think a down turn over there doesn't affect us and, a down turn here doesn't affect them then it leads to misunderstanding the interconnectiveness the world's finances have on every country's economy. If they are doing badly, which they have been, our economy suffers because they aren't buying our goods. And, vice-versa. It makes my brain hurt too. But, what alot of people don't realize is that there are more investors around the world putting their money in America right now because we are stabilizing faster and are a better, safer bet. But, they still are leary because they are not sure if our political will in this country will offer more stringent rules for trading,(one was about how fast ones fingers moving over a keyboard in stock-trading can cause chaos, and also insider trading when public stocks are sold before they are listed) the list of concerns is daunting for everybody. When Wall Street took a dive at the last months of our last administration the world's banks took a dive right along with us, having an earthquake-shaking domino effect. Everybody was holding on for their lives. We took more aggressive measures but they weren't aggressive enough to pull our boots on faster, so our recovery is slower, but, because we have a more dynamic ecomony and pumped in money to keep it from spinning totally out of control, we are pulling out ahead of everyone else's recovery faster. It does seem like baby steps but, think of it more like not falling over a cliff.
There are economists in our Universities and at different Institutions that have charted tax rates that have gone back decades and decades. They can be found on the internet under a the topic U.S. Gov't Tax-rate history or, like named titles. These are not political party's that chart these but Economics Depts around the country, who use the information to educate their students, the citizens and the government. The Tax Charts are compared to Economic Growth for the times the rates were put in place so it's kind of wonky but, interesting and it was one way I was able to come to terms with how recovery happens. So, go to these sites and spend some time looking around.
How about the Olympics!!! Sorry it's over so fast.

Another comment I frequently hear is that Obama got all he wanted for two years but yet with they same mouth they are blaming him for four years of failure. Go figure that. Besides He really did not even have two years because when Ted Kennedy died Scott Brown won his vacated seat and the rep. party started to filibuster most legislation. This includes jobs bills and the like. How can people blame it all on the Pres. when clearly we have three branches of government. Instead of trying to work with the President, Republicans congregated to the nearest camera to blast him on many policies that they had formerly agreed with. I think that is unpatriotic and unfair.

More lies and decite from Obama, the man spews out constant lies, distortions and hate out of his filthy mouth. He does not care about the Middle Class, if you notice he does not talk about the ecomony, all he does is run people down. I do not know about you but that is not the kind of person I want running this country. Romney and Ryan offer fresh hope, sound economic plan, for a better America vote Romney/Ryan
