White House: Obama not skipping intel briefings

The president's spokesman disputed a Washington Post item that suggested the commander-in-chief has not attended the Presidential Daily Brief (PDB) "more than half the time."

The PDB is a daily rundown of threats and developments as assessed by the national security community. It is a top secret written document that is read by the President and his inner circle of security advisors and is often accompanied by in-person briefing by intelligence officials.

Check out CNN's Security Briefing for the full story.

These people will say anything to try to discredit the POTUS. It's not going to work.

The Government Accountability Institute, a new conservative investigative research organization, examined President Obama’s schedule from the day he took office until mid-June 2012, to see how often he attended his Presidential Daily Brief (PDB) — the meeting at which he is briefed on the most critical intelligence threats to the country. During his first 1,225 days in office, Obama attended his PDB just 536 times — or 43.8 percent of the time. During 2011 and the first half of 2012, his attendance became even less frequent — falling to just over 38 percent.

n July, a GAI analysis of President Obama’s calendar found that the president has spent just 412 hours in economic meetings of any kind throughout his presidency versus the over 600 hours he’s spent golfing.

We have seen Obama's bumbling foreign policy. If he is attending the briefings, he must not be paying attention. Perhaps he is playing with his etch-a-sketch.

At least the briefing didn't get in the way of a round of golf. Right now Obama is evaluating everything on the basis of the election. Nothing is getting in the way of the Obama re-election machine. One problem is that people heard Bill Clinton speak and they could see what a real politician sounded like even one with a gun to his head.

And yet you take Paul Krugmans words as gospel truth.

      September 11, 2012 at 9:12 am |
      • Kool-Aid Police

In 1999 Paul Krugman was paid $50,000 by Enron as a consultant on its “advisory board,” and that same year he wrote a glowing article about Enron for Fortune magazine. We all know how Enron turned out.
These days Krugman’s liberal agenda always takes precedence over economic principle. He has described himself as “an unabashed defender of the welfare state.” He has declared, “For me, Sweden of 1980 would be ideal.” He has called Barack Obama’s sweeping plan for socialized medicine “naïve” because it doesn’t contain enough mandates. He has said that “We should be getting 28% of GDP in [tax] revenue,” when the highest level ever collected, even in wartime, is less than 21 percent.

This is the person lefties worship and adore.

We all know that Marc Thiessen, the speech writer for the last president, should have known better.

Today's op-ed piece in the WP by Johnathan Capehart: "Thiessen's Intelligence Question Misses the Point" Mr, Capehart points out the fact that each president uses a different method of digesting the information supplied in the daily briefing. Some read it, some listen and ask questions, some do a balance of read and ask questions, some read it before being briefed some not..

But we also understand on important days like 9/11 what happens when someone doesn't read or ask the right questions...or connect the dots.

So far in my humble opinion, this president has NOT failed to connect the dots. Least one forgets he used information gleaned from daily briefings and connected the dots to bring down Osama bin Laden.

        Obama-Biden 2012!

Wow – you have to review Carneys answering the questions – he doesnt – its all political double speak. Yes he always attends, & if he doesnt he reads – wait I dont want to go to far into that but he is a voraciuos reader & its importantfor the president & when he meets in his office – I mean the white house one – wow – even Carney doesnt know whats going on. Its easy to disprove – but instead he says its ridiculous.

the usual idiot repo postings. They will jump on anything to try and discredit the president. Good poll numbers and getting better. People have really begun to see mitt the twit for what he is a rich guy trying to by the presidency.and the puppet of others. Can;t wait fo the debates. Mitt can"t handle going off script. He doesn't know what lie to tell. It should be fun watching him . Whats even funnier is reading from the repos how wonderful he is. The stupid golf remarks don't cut it. I guess thats worse than mitt not showing his taxes or keeping his money in the caymens. BOy are you living in a different universe. Forward.

@Larry5, no sitting president spent more time off than Bush. Obama must be doing pretty well with those briefings as no 9/11 or any other terrorist event has taken place on our soil under his watch.

Jean you are correct...except that clinton blew it on the first trade center attack and decimated our military and intel community to the extent it took years to put it all back together...read Rumsfields book on this it is well documented and referenced. Bush simply did not have any faith in the intel...after all they did get the WMDs wrong didnt they? Funny how now you say he didnt listen to the intel community...ignorant fool.

        September 11, 2012 at 11:06 pm |
      • Bill in STL

how soon you forget jean... Under Clinton the intellegence agencies were disconnected and not allowed to share information. Afte 7 months in office you expected President Bush to prevent 9/11 (which began planning under Clinton) with a completely dysfunctional intellegence community? However you expect us to allow years and years to pass before the Economy andjobs picture are fixed? Tell me ... when the president listed those treaties he signed did he mention that they were negoiated under the Bush administration? So if he thinks they are a good thing then its not all Bushes fault. Every president makes mistakes ... even the current president... what makes this all so laughable is that you won't admit it,,,, you are just like him... its always somebody elses fault... What would Truman say?

GWB attended all of them and how did everthing turn out? Economy went into a tailspin, Bin Laden lived in Luxury in Pakistan, Stock markert almost crashed, Can't find the WMD's, Worldwide recession, Constitution used as toilet paper, U.S tortures people, Unfunded wars, Tax breaks for those who didn't need them, etc. So we want our current Pres. to do what "W" did while he occupied the White House? Does it sound just as stupid when you read it?

If I made a list of all of the dumbest things that reporters come up with to occupy the minds of all the idiots I would run out of paper and ink. Oh look there goes a shiny spinner, what was I talking about ?

Wow! But he did attend 600 or so glof games. BO sure gave it to President Bush in his last two years and now it is his turn...but its still all Bushes fualt...got it?

The recession was over June 2009, six months after BO took over...Started December 2007. This has been obluners baby all the way. One mess after another. Very poor leadership. Today they are discussing raising the debt limit again, last year oblunder called congresional leaders to the white house to solve the impass. The congressional leaders of both parties ask obama to leave the roon so they could negotiate...that sums up the obama presidency

agreedl... if this president got better intel... he can thank Bush for tearing down the Clinton boxes that housed each intellegence service and a coureagous Pakistani Doctor who is current imprisioned in Pakistan. Does not seem to be doing a good job at either of them.

There are no shortage of people who will jump in and cry if any one brings up the race card but trust me folks. All this hate is not because the guy was borng in Hawaii, the thing thy don't get is the minute Romney has to stand up and defend his 2k positions on every item it over. Obama is going to expose this guy like no one ever has in his silver spoon life.
