Great job President Obama. Had congress passed his jobs bill we would have had 1 million new jobs.

Did you see the latest Robme gaffe. Another week and another blunder from Romney. He is so out of touch with the middle class. I am a 47% and I work and don't depend on government handouts.

Republicans left this country in a mess and two wars and they are now complaining that Obama did not clean up their mess fast enough.

LOL! Well Robme wants to talk about the 47% who do not "according to him" pay any taxes while he himself has not proved to anyone that he has actually paid taxes. What does he have to say about those coorporations which he and Citizens United claim "are people" which for years on end have paid no taxes? From 2008-2010 these 30 companies paid No, Nada, Zip in federal taxes. Not only that, most of them take huge corporate entitlements from the federal government.

        Pepco Holdings $ 882 $ –508 –57.6%
        General Electric 10,460 –4,737 –45.3%
        Paccar 365 –112 –30.5%
        PG&E Corp. 4,855 –1,027 –21.2%
        Computer Sciences 1,666 –305 –18.3%
        NiSource 1,385 –227 –16.4%
        CenterPoint Energy 1,931 –284 –14.7%
        Tenet Healthcare 415 –48 –11.6%
        Atmos Energy 897 –104 –11.6%
        Integrys Energy Group 818 –92 –11.3%
        American Electric Power 5,899 –545 –9.2%
        Con-way 286 –26 –9.1%
        Ryder System 627 –46 –7.3%
        Baxter International 926 –66 –7.1%
        Wisconsin Energy 1,725 –85 –4.9%
        Duke Energy 5,475 –216 –3.9%
        DuPont 2,124 –72 –3.4%
        Consolidated Edison 4,263 –127 –3.0%
        Verizon Communications 32,518 –951 –2.9%
        Interpublic Group 571 –15 –2.6%
        CMS Energy 1,292 –29 –2.2%
        NextEra Energy 6,403 –139 –2.2%
        Navistar International 896 –18 –2.0%
        Boeing 9,735 –178 –1.8%
        Wells Fargo 49,370 –681 –1.4%
        El Paso 4,105 –41 –1.0%
        Mattel 1,020 –9 –0.9%
        Honeywell International 4,903 –34 –0.7%
        DTE Energy 2,551 –17 –0.7%
        Corning 1,977 –4 –0.2%
        TOTAL $ 160,341 $ –10,742 –6.7%

Many of which receive billions in revenue from everyday hardworking American citizens who work but do not have enough income to pay federal taxes. To say the 47% do not pay taxes flies in the face of reason...everyone pays taxes...If you own a car you pay taxes...if you ride the subway you pay taxes...if you own or rent a home you pay taxes...if you buy toilet paper or laundry soap you pay taxes... sales tax, excise tax, property tax, city tax, state school taxes.

Plus,it was not for our past and future tax dollars, our #SS trust fund, our reitrement saving funds, our military benefit funds that bailed these thankless greedy pigs out of the pickle they put us all in, a great many of them would not be in business.

I WOULD BET YOU THOSE 47% OF PEOPLE NOT PAYING INCOME TAX INCLUDE MANY REPUBLICANS, MOSTLY ELDERLY AND POOR WHO ARE PROBABLY STICKING TO THEIR GUNS AND RELIGION. JUST HOW CLUELESS IS MITT ROMNEY? AND WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT HIM WHO PAYS A MUCH LOWER RATE THAN MANY IN HIS BRACKET? SHOULD WE NOW SAY PEOPLE WHO DEPEND ON THESE TAX BREAKS FOR CAPITAL GAINS WILL VOTE FOR OBAMA? HOW IDIOTIC. WHY IS THIS MORON RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT WHEN HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT HOW NEARLY HALF OF AMERICANS WILL VOTE?

I would suggest reading:"The Food Stamp Fallacy" When will Republicans be honest about who really gets the most out of welfare programs? Posted on THE ROOT by: Edward Wyckoff Willams Januray 10, 2012
Research has proven that in 2010 of the 46 million living living in poverty 31 million were Caucasian and 10 million were African American. Of the 49 million without health insurance 37 million were Caucasian and 8 million African American. Of the 36 million relying on food stamps, 24 million are caucasian, 8 million were African American and the remainder Hispanic.

The Food Stamp Fallacy only proves how the GOP has exploded the race issue to make people vote against their own best interest.

We actually at this moment have about 3.5 million job openings available that American workers lack the skills to do...and every day they are not trained to do these jobs ships more jobs overseas, brings more skilled labor in on visas...and exponentially with every new job opening that requires that, or another skill, for whch we do not have trained workers the problem grows.

      • Caramon

Jean, my father, a small business owner, hired 4 employees last summer. They were trained. However, he could not get one of them to put in a single full week of work. How would you think we should deal with this problem? Farmers have made similar statements. They prefer immigrant workers for seasonal work because immigrants simply work harder.

@jean...companies pay taxes when they are profitable...and they do abide by the tax code...so, your point? Oh, and how much do yhou think these companies paid into the social security funds...their portion? How much did they pay into pensions, health insurance, local state and property taxes....inventory taxes and many many other taxes. And how much did they pay tax attorneys and accountants to deal with the federal govt and audit teams from uncle sugar? As usual you are harping the left wing false and manipulative hate America and commerce line. Dumb and shallow thinking.

      • jean2009

        @NO
Companies pay taxes when they absolutely can't find another loop-hole to write income off. The same as the average working person who pays taxes when they don't have a legitimate deduction. Unfortunately we have handed out far too many unrewarded tax loop-holes to corporations.

Plus any monies paid into any Government fund on behalf of an employee was not the corporations' money it was their employees earned pay. Do you not look at your pay stub to see what is being withheld by your employer to forward on as your contribution?

@ jean2009, Liberals do not understand capitalism. Companies are in biz for their shareholders. Not the government. In fact if they do not do everything legally possible to be good stewards of the capital then the fed and state governments can hold them accountable.

If a co. pays less in taxes then the value of the stock will be higher, because the extra cash on hand. This growth benefits the share holders, regardless if they are man or woman, black or white, rich or pore, young or old. It is equality to the max. If the share holders sell then they are responsible for the capital gains tax. I wish that Liberals could take the time to understand how our economic system worked before they lay criticism.

jean2009: If you put that much research into Obama and his works maybe we wouldn't be in these straights. Where do you get the time to produce all that? Your guy, Obama, seems to be on an identity (he's black, you know) politic jag: Beyonce, JayZ, NBA teams. It looks to the outsider that he is flagging in black polls or at least motivating nothing more than apathy there, in need of what he thinks they respond to pro athletes and entertainers. Maybe that's who he should be tapping for higher taxes; talk about unearned riches.

What a waste of time. Ten hours of travel, three campaign events and 3 minutes of comedy on Letterman. Is this really the best use of our Presidents time? If a CEO of a company acted so foolishly their company would go bankrupt. I guess that explains it.

And he wants people to think he is just an average everyday guy. Bull, he is a "hollywood" want to be. Once he's out of White House, maybe the Hollywood people will give him a job. That's the one thing he does have experience in. If he does get re-elected, not sure what he'll do for the next 4 years. There will be no more campaigning to do.

The people going to the polls are not just that very wealthy1 or 2% minority who give every indication of planning on doing a crippling George W. do-over.

        September 18, 2012 at 5:46 pm |
    • Caramon

George Bush spent about 32 percent of his time on either ranch. Truth, it was the most vacation time for a president. However, our current president has crushed records for fund raising. Yes, he does need to campaign just like any incumbent president. He also needs to perform the duties of the presidency at the same time. I for one would just like to see some activities being performed as the President. Some will say he is doing these duties while on the campaign trail. Maybe so. It is just that it should be visible.

By stating that those who disagree with our current president should not comment on this news web indicates a certain biased. News in general should be unbiased. Denying the right to oppose even the President of the United States is exactly what the first amendment is to guard against. Do you agree or not?

As far as hateful responses, please find any one of my comments that would be considered hateful.

I am in no way saying you can't disagree with this President. I just feel that some posters on here are very disrespectful in how they disagree with him. I didn't agree with Bush policies, but I respected the fact that he was our President and addressed him as such. Instead of calling him inept and every other name in the book. I don't recall calling you out personally regarding the hate comments, but majority of them are, especially bb and that is who I was addressing to go back to Fox News.

YEAH, I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE GRAPH I SAW ON THE CABLE NETWORKS AND I DON'T SEE IT ONLINE YET. THERE IS ONE DETAILED BREAKDOWN ON THE 47% OF PEOPLE WHO DO NOT PAY FEDERAL INCOME TAX IN THE WASHINGTON POST. IT SHOWS THAT MOST OF THEM ACTUALLY WORK BUT PAY ONLY A PAYROLL TAX, THE REST ARE EITHER ELDERLY OR EXEMPT DUE TO CERTAIN TAX BREAKS.

Interesting. I personally find the term payroll tax to be a bit confusing. It apparently includes retirement, aka social security or pension, and federal withholding tax. I would be curious to see how many pay withholding but receive the entire amount back as a refund. This would likely provide a better assessment of the number not paying taxes. My guess is we will not hear this from either candidate.

Well I am being held up yet again by the moderator. Happens all the type..nothing new.
To add to my comment (the one you are not yet reading)...here is a short fact.

In 2009 forty-nine corporations paid ZERO or less in Federal tax. Which means they not only did not pay any federal tax they may also have received a rebate Six of those 49 companies told their shareholders they earned $78.6 billion in pre-tax income and received $10.8 billion in tax rebates.

And they can't afford to help retrain workers whose out-dated jobs skills do not meet their needs...they cannot provide jobs in locations where unemployeed need jobs....PLEASE!

awaiting mod does suck, ifeel ya, however profit is not a dirty word, why should some one successful be responsable for a loser leech, i mean really ??? what gves??? heres an idea why doesnt the loser go find work, if he or she is unqualified, they can wait tables, resturant wk etc and take a few classes to improve themselves instead of getting gov handout. maybe even earn a self dignity . my taxes and insurance are thru the roof due to the ineptness of this joke pres, he has no idea what to do but point blame and party like a rock star. its just been one Blunder after another if u stay current, which it appears u do than u already know how inept he is.

Nice to know you are doing so well..that you have an income that can afford taxation, and can afford health insurance...you're obviously one of the blessed.

I assume you are unaware that many of those who receive government assistance are already employed in a low wage job, or are the disabled, or the elderly retired. As a matter of fact, a 2009 study showed that military service personnel outpaced the rest of the population for food-stamp dependency...so a great many of them are serving this country so you can speak ill of our president, and so you can whine about having it so good.

Reminds me of the 75 year old complaining about his upcoming birthday...and the 92 year listening to the whining...calmly said:"Gee what a pity!"

Well Mitt! What do you have to say about the 49 multi-billion dollar corporations "corporations you consider people" which not only didn't pay any Federal income tax between 2008-2010 not once cent (nada-zip-zero-zilch). Corporations which also received a larger tax refund (billions) more than many of us can even comprehend. The very same greedy corporations which had their hand out for a bailout, which was due to the pickle they of their own doing had put us in....a bailout which was provided by raiding the retirement funds of Social Security, Veterans and Federal Employees Pension Fund among others. Many of them are the same fat cats who are bankrolling your campaign.

Yes, 47% of the American people do not make enough income to pay federal income tax but it flies in the face of reason to think they do not pay taxes....if you own a car you pay taxes, if you ride the subway you pay taxes....if you buy toilet paper or laundry soap you pay taxes....if you own or rent property you pay taxes.

NOT SURE HOW I GOT DRAGGED INTO THIS BUT OK. I WORKED FOR A FINANCIAL COMPANY FOR 15 YEARS. THESE LARGE BANKS ARE ALL ABOUT PROFIT, THEY ARE BEHOLDEN TO THEIR STOCKHOLDERS AND THEIR EMPLOYEES ARE AT THE BOTTOM EXCEPT FOR THEIR SHINY EXECUTIVES. ABOUT THE ONLY TIME A HIRING DECISION IS CONSIDERED IMPORTANT IS IF IT HURTS THE COMPETITION WHICH IS LARGELY TRUE FOR THE PEOPLE WHO BRING IN MONEY TO THE BANK, THE OTHER STAFF ARE A NECESSARY EVIL. YOU CAN SEE THIS REFLECTED IN HOW EMPLOYEES GET PAID TOO.

IT IS A REALITY THAT THE JOB MARKET FOR MANY SEGMENTS THESE CORPORATIONS TYPICALLY HIRE HAS SHRUNK LARGELY DUE TO OUTSOURCING AND AS A PENALTY FOR MAKING BAD BUSINESS DECISIONS. THIS IS TRUE FROM MANY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY JOBS, ENGINEERING, CUSTOMER SERVICE, ETC. AND THE TRUTH IS, THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS AND I DON'T THINK IT WILL CHANGE ANYTIME SOON. PEOPLE WILL JUST HAVE TO LEARN TO ADJUST, LEARN NEW SKILLS AND EXPLORE NEW JOB MARKETS. THAT IS THE WAY TO GET OUT OF THIS HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT RUT. YOU CAN SCREAM AT THE PRESIDENT ALL YOU WANT, THAT'S NOT GOING TO CHANGE THE SITUATION BECAUSE AFTER ALL, WE LIVE IN A FREE MARKET SOCIETY.

Good for the big 4, this what america is about, if u dont like the tax laws, work at getting them changed, the bottom line is 47% are not paying taxes, so 53% are the 53% are carrying the other half, it can not continue, the whole wall will collapse. If u have a business major and are as smart as u say u r, Oblunder has a harvard degree, Why are things getting worse ??? Why arent u opening your own business ??? Why is Oblunder trying to divide the country ????

The impostor POTUS can not find time to meet Israel's Prime Minister, but is tripping in the lights of the ONE PER CENTERS J Z, Beyonce or whatever etc. Another 2 faced stance by the Imposter in Chief. Netanyahu is going to put egg all over BOZOBAMA's half breed face when he strikes Iran and shows what real leadership is about. This clown was campaigning when Ambassador Stevens and 3 other Americans were killed. The liberal shard, Valerie Jarret, has more protection at Martha's Vinyard that Stevens had in Bengazi on 9/11 anniversary!!!!!! Jimmy Carter's grandson is the leaker????? How funny! So the grandson of what used to be the worst President in my lifetime (Obama is now) is going to try to turn this election?????? Too bad he didn't live while his grandpappy was President with 16% interest on home mortgages, gas lines, a hostage crisis that he couldn't resolve.... need I go on? The truth is ROMNEY TOLD THE TRUTH. Although I don't agree with the way he said it, the fact is that 1/2 this country is paying for federal programs for the other 1/2, period. Take Medicare and Social Security out of it (because a portion of those 47% do pay those taxes) and 1/2 are paying for the military, the protection of our country. President Obama has CREATED this environment. He wants it. In order to 'redistribute' the wealth, we ALL HAVE TO COME DOWN. That means more people in poverty, more people unemployed, higher taxes on those that ARE paying taxes, need I go on????? The left can be insulted but take a look at what has gone on under this President. He has no intention of taking steps to get this economy moving at the pace it should. He says he is the President of ALL Americans? Really? He has never spoken to ME. He has done nothing but divide this country since he took office. After all, you have to create chaos in order to make people subservient, right? Take a look at history folks. It's true. He's a sham. Vote for opportunity, not for dependency. That is what this country was built on. We are looking more and more like Europe. That may be the President's dream but it's not MY dream. He has 3 days notice that the Libyan embassy is going to be attacked and he DOES NOTHING. Asleep at the wheel. Funny how the left is quiet about that. So sad that a portion of this country preys on the unfortunate. So sad that our President tries to capitalize on it.

I happened to be maybe one of the few people posting here that build a new home during the Carter Administration...our interest rate was 7.3/4%, plus the return on investments savings was very good.

I will lay the current mess exactly where it should be, and as everyone who is not trying to spin it knows it should be...at the feet of George W. Bush.

I want to point out many of us "47%ers" eagerly want to feel wealthy. Money we worked for are normally spent to splurge for ourselves or our family to enjoy what we have earned so we may feel like a "rich person". Sometimes we buy nice things or go on vacations to make us feel like a "rich person". However, after all is spent, we go back to work, pay our 35%, and save for the next opportunity to spend like a "rich person". In the end, us consumers benefit from this short moment of feeling wealthy while business benefit from our expenses...money is cycled to help everyone.

On the other hand, however, if you are a super "rich person", you don't have to face the reality of working 50 hours a week to feel rich. You can sleep all week while you earn millions and enjoy paying less than 15% tax. Instead of spending (or cycling the money) so small businesses benefit for them, they hide it away in trust funds or offshore accounts.

All Republicans created this separation and all Republican representatives MUST NOT be voted into office. They impede the lives of 99%ers.
